Here is a spread from "Galaxy Guide" - a spec-evo sketchbook I kept between 1999 and 2002.
I will share an image from this series every Friday, and I hope you will enjoy the journey!
***
"Galaxy Guide" was a guide to an immense artificial habitat known as "the Wall" - where creatures from all timelines and all planets were brought together and allowed to proper. It was a wonderful place populated with arcane megastructures, and overlooked by strange, God-like intell...

I illustrated one of the strange "Mastigaunts" that I had sketched earlier this year. (Check attachments to see all my Mastigaunt sketches).
***
Mastigaunts are crescent-shaped advanced nanomachines that hover above the ground thanks to their long, grounding tail filaments. If the tail breaks contract with the ground, they drop like a stone.
Mastigaunts live in the world's boreal forests and are the real reason why these areas are not inhabited. ...

Work on the Snaiad book is continuing non-stop!
Here are the two drawings I completed during my recent Youtube urbexing video, which you can watch on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3b8-HdEcJU !
Despite their different body plans, the Staff-jaw (Bonkeria sp.) and Rollpig (Helixur sp.) seen here are somewhat closely-related!

Here is a sneak reveal of one of the hundreds of "boring" herbivorous clades that will appear on the new Snaiad book.
Skoloderms are medium-to-small sized harbivores of arid highlands and mountains that reproduce by laying leathery "egg purses" in crevices and burrows. They are specialist feeders on tubers, and indigenous succulent-and-lichen like "plants" found on high altitudes. Freed from the burden of carrying growing fetuses, their first heads have shrunk to an almost reptilian st...

Thanks to your support, every week I can take 1-2 days off my work and concentrate purely on Snaiad and All Tomorrows. I draw and write everywhere I go!
Here are three new species from Snaiad for your eyes only. Provisionally termed "Vaardogs", these are small to medium-sized archaic herbivores with lithe bodies. I need to create a lot of these "boring herbivores" to properly balance Snaiad's predator-packed ecosystems :)
Once more, thank you all for y...

A few years ago I had a personal project of illustrating ALL creatures and sophont races mentioned in Jack Vance's works.
Due to other priorities I only got one illustration done - an Aluph from the Durdane series. I loved those creatures with their pedal scent organs, their "dog-spider faces" and overall hint of lapsed sapience. Mr. Vance really had a way of building worlds no other author - living or dead - possessed. This week I finally got around to cleaning and screen-toni...

Thanks to your hints, this surreal painting is now complete. @HH HH had mentioned adding "something serpentine" in the final hour - which I also worked into the painting.
It added a nice bit of drama; the spirit couple seemed to be reacting to something, and the snake-like ectoplasm was a great fit. So I called this painting "Surprised".
Thank you all for sitting through this process with me!

I read your suggestions and added a couple of poly-limbed, and slightly manticore-like forms.

The 1000+ name lexicon on the alien world of #Snaiad contains many "uncanned" prehistoric languages alongside scientific Greek/Latin.
General convention is to couple one Greek/Latin word root with one from another language for genus names - creating cool possibilities like Tsaruborhynkhos, Magnasellahia, and Hursaura.
Feel free to use this lexicon in your own projects!

Here is a template to help you draw radial creatures easily.
Please feel free to download and use these guide papers as you wish! (FILE ATTACHED)
I created the radial angle template you can see in the attachment. It has horizontal and vertical planes for 12, 90, 72 and 60 degree slices. This means you can easily draw 3, 4, 5 and 6 - sided animals quite easily.
Print these papers on any home or school inkjet printer, and just draw on them regularly. After sc...

For years I have been thinking about these strange, radially-symmetrical animals on Snaiad - my long-running project about the natural history of another planet.
Drawing radially-symmetrical animals is a big challenge! One has to repeat the same details over and over - and it is very easy to get the whole thing off. My brain has difficulty grasping non-bilaterally-symmetrical creatures!
So I designed a method to draw radial forms easily.
I created the radial angle pape...

A new study based on one of my enduring non-scientific hunches - that Permian-era Lystrosaurs had some sort of mole-rat-like "civilisation" which caused the end-Permian extinction.
This is also an art style test for the upcoming All Tomorrows book! :)

Midjourney and A.I.-created art is fast becoming banal and commonplace; but I am still trying to push its envelope by collaging and painting over Midjourney creations; trying to create works that look traditionally-made, whimsical, mystifying... and just plain beautiful! :)
