Those mischievous wizards are back, as we have unearthed the Spellbook of Mischief, Volume 2. Back at their old tricks, we have a variety of spells that are tantalizingly close to the original, yet oh so different than what one thinks they are casting. Just as in volume 1, the wizards have taken spells that we all know and love and changed them ever so slightly to create a new spell. While they aren't meant to kill you, they are meant to surprise, confuse, and befuddle the poor slob tha...

These poor, raven like humanoids are flightless, much like the penguin and emu. Unlike their flightless brethren, the Kenku once possessed this ability but had it snatched away from them, cursed to suffer for their avarice. What could they have done to curse their entire race to suffer such a terrible fate? Why all of a sudden can they not talk and defend themselves? It's probably because their master doesn't want the truth to come out.

I like ancient Egypt, they have a cool mythology, the creatures are all odd, and the movie The Mummy (1999) has to be one of my favorites - probably because of Brendan Fraser and John Hannah. The Monster Manual already has a few interesting ancient-Egyptian-themed monsters, like the Sphinx and the mummy, but there could always be more! A party of adventurers doesn't just want to fight a bunch of scorpion people, so here are a few more monsters they might face out in those de...

The Staff of the Elements is originally from the 2nd edition Tome of Foes, a ridiculously overpowered weapon, even for that edition! Converted to meet 5th edition, this staff comes in 4 forms, one for each element.
This a preview of just one of the magic items we create every other week for our Magic Item Monday series, available to $5 and up patrons. If magic items aren't your thing, we also create homebrew creatures every other Monday, giving our patrons new homebrew every we...

Magic sticks. Usually the domain of wizards, these magical staffs go beyond the realm of the spellcaster. The Hidden Blade Staff is perfect for a lower monk, while druids should love the Staff of Unyielding Oak.
Once again, these staves are updated versions of those that can be found in the earlier editions but have been lost through time. A new addition to the magic items is the source material from which the conversion came from if you wish to check out the original.

We are back again and it's up to you to decide what our next Deep Dive creature will be! We have got a few requests for humanoids again, so since we had so much fun with the Giff, we are looking forward to doing the next one.
Remember, if you have a creature you are dying to have us take a long hard look at and we will get it on our list.
As always, the poll will close Monday at noon.

We all know about the Medusa. She’s the Greek woman with snakes instead of hair who will turn you to stone with just a look. Medusa’s life was one of hardship and getting royally screwed over multiple times by the Greek gods. One of the three Gorgon sisters, her dad was the greek primordial god Phorcys and her mom was Ceto, the primordial sea goddess. Eventually, this happy little life would come crashing down.
Poseidon took a fancy to Medusa, seduced her, and proceeded to ravage he...

It's pretty terrifying out there in the real world. I don't know if you've ever just put your head under the ocean and looked around, but there is some really creepy stuff down there. Fish come in all sorts of shapes that they really shouldn't. Some have lanterns stuck on them, others have way more teeth than they are allowed, and others look like beautiful plants until they paralyze you and feed on you while you are still alive. To be honest, it must suck being a fish. Everything is trying t...

Thanks to the TV series Stranger Things (2016), everyone knows Demogorgon. But what about the other original demon lord, Orcus? Arguably the more famous of the two demon lords, Orcus has never been a creature that any hero in their right mind has gone looking for. Originally a vile mortal whose dastardly deeds resulted in his death, his soul then manifested upon the Abyss as a larva, and the long trek to demon lord began. Slaving away throughout centuries under the cruel command of a...

Who doesn’t love those spacefaring hippos with a love for gunpowder? Introduced in the Spelljammer campaign setting, the Giff was both a playable class and a creature for your character to do battle with. It’s hard to take the Giff very seriously, as the publishers have gone out of their way to make the Giff look and act like a buffoon who just likes to watch things explode. That’s a shame because there is more to this creature than meets the eye. Sure, they love dressing up in full mil...

Starting to really get into some old cultures and decided to first dive into Mesoamerica... - Stephen
There are tons of great monsters buried in the ancient past that just don't get a spotlight since they weren't in the first few editions of Dungeons & Dragons. One of the ones I've been looking at recently is from Mesoamerica, along with some further to the south like the Inca empire. A few of them here today are well known, like the chupacabra (who is actual...

A Druid is the wonderful combination of the Marc Singer character in the movie Beastmaster (1982), the little orange fuzzball the Lorax, and the loveable bear Baloo. Part humanoid and part beast, the Druid’s bond to nature is so deeply intertwined that it is the embodiment of the natural world that it lives in. In ancient history, Druids were quite high up the food chain and were as powerful as the noble caste of the Gaul people. They were responsible for overseeing religious pract...

This week's monster thursday harkens back to a previous post I made many months ago that featured different monsters from across the multiverse. They have a wanderlust, a desire for more ...
