2k!

For the first time, and as far as I know with entirely just regular patrons, I've hit the goal of $2000! This happens exactly when I'm in the middle of trying to do the port of everything to Apple Silicon. I've also got a Mackity variation with the EQ stage in it, that I'm working on: would like to not grind to a total halt while porting the 248 plugins over :)

So here's what I promised and planned for this goal. I will start the DIY hardware streams (I've got a lot of what I need for d...

This is for my reference, anybody else who's interested in using the Lavry AD10, and kind of a shout-out. The Lavry has four modes you can capture with: Clear, Tube,...

Chord Organ Firmware stream

I'm talking with someone about doing my Chord Organ firmware post as a livestream. Since I don't usually stream on Sunday, here's a patron message: there might be an unexpected livestream on the Airwindows youtube today! Stay tuned :)

Evergreens: Let It Bleed

It's really late, but that's appropriate for making an Evergreens about 'Let It Bleed'. If I didn't push on into the night over this one I'd be doing something wrong.

http://www.jinxtigr.com/evergreens/Evergreens-RollingStones-LetItBleed.mp3

Hope you like it. I'm grabbing dinner and crashing. Oh… I've fixed up the webpage (that's supposed to be secret for patrons) s...

New Lofty Goals

I'm working on my updates to recent Tape plugins, but I've sorted out my intentions for new stuff in future. I will make it possible for patrons to cheaply play with real analog gear! If I hit $2000 (give me a year or so and I'm sure to get there) I will begin to put together 'DIY tinkering kits' so you can build your own synths and stompboxes and things. Anything I get beyond $2000 will be turned into this hardware parts stuff and sold AT COST, no extra profit going to me, but I will be able...

No Evergreens, but something

Hey, we didn't come up with an Evergreens request this Monday and I'm not up for doing one this week: trying to gear up for the Patron-greens (or the Quills and Sofas as a musician livestream hangout?) and I'm going to need to fuss with other stuff, so today I can't do a vinyl (copyrighted, private-stream) record. I'm moving towards replacing that, again, with patron submissions streamed publically.

But I do have something, kinda? I got in a rabbithole of analyzing my last couple years ...

Tangerine Dreamy

http://www.jinxtigr.com/evergreens/Evergreens-TangerineDream-Phaedra.mp3

This time, by request, some Tangerine Dream! Much ado is made of how the record's in a tonal range so utterly different from my bright little lavalier mic that I could do ASMR whispers the whole time and be clearly heard. It's also a great example of resonance upon resonance, producing sounds that are th...

Revolving

In which we learn that, if you have the old school super-vintage gear, AND you loudenate and hard-limit everything to the Nth degree, you get… Taxman? Sure enough. An Evergreen Podcast look into the Beatles' 'Revolver'!

OK Boomer

We didn't get an album request this week, so it's the OK Boomeriest album ever: Crosby Stills and Nash's first album! And a lot of philosophizing on the subject of art, creativity, and what it means when bad people make good music (and what is bad people, anyway?). I suppose being so disrespectful of these musical deities is very 'OK GenXer' of me, but that's kinda what the Evergreen Podcast is all about and it's not like anybody much will hear it… just you. Hope you like it, and the beauty...

Duty Now

So this time I'm a little burnt and I wanted to pick something that specifically I just loved, and I sure succeeded! Even if the recording continued to be tricky (learning Reaper has its challenges).

Duty Now For The Future is the second Devo album, and perhaps the greatest. It's certainly one ...

Brown Bomber

Starting to get a handle on things, even though I was so discombobulated that I started it right off by calling 'Whole Lotta Love' 'Heartbreaker' :) but it gets better. Here's the Evergreens Podcast on Led Zeppelin II, the Brown Bomber: with a lot of specific detail thanks to a recent book on the band's recordings, and a lot of classic heavy rock bombast thanks to the Airwindows studio and the glory of vinyl records.

Facing the music

I've got various plans for ways I can add stuff to the Evergreens podcast, like ability to patch in my guitar and demonstrate guitar stompboxes as part of how musicians got their sounds… but this week I wasn't able to do any of that. So… Phil Collins, evergreen artist :)

Really. This week it's 'Face Value' and a deep dive into why this album launched a celebrity career… even though that celebrity career wasn't all fun for Phil.

Observations

This week's Evergreens is on the King Crimson first album, 'In The Court Of The Crimson King'. Bit late as I was struggling hugely with new tech. On the bright side I think it'll sound even a bit better than before, and I hope you like it. Quite a lot of 'just letting the Crim play while listening in stunned silence', but for the talking parts I'm trying a new mic (less off-mic stuff and clearer) and you're also getting a preview of the upcoming new De-Esser, DeBess :)

The Crux Of The Biscuit

So, this week the Evergreens podcast is a record I've had since I was a kid… Zappa's 'Apostrophe'. It's less technical-heavy, but more ranging over the full Zappa experience to the best of my ability. I reference as many technical bits as I can, though!

Evergreens Podcast: Steve Miller Band

This time, by request, we have a masterclass on Compression, with the Steve Miller Band's 'Fly Like An Eagle'! And a bit of sass from this old prog-rocker on how the SMB are not the tightest group around, nor are they hard rockers… big change from last week's AC/DC… but all the same we end up discovering interesting things about how to have contagious fun making music, and come away with some real life lessons :)

Evergreens: Tres Hombres, ZZ Top

Hi! I've got either a third or a fifth Evergreens Podcast for you. This time, it's really old ZZ Top: Tres Hombres, the ORIGINAL mix off old vinyl! There's a lot to be learned, though I don't have nearly as much in terms of direct or secondhand knowledge. So we'll go with what I know from being a guitar player, what I know from context, and what we can hear off those old grooves!

Remaster: Fleetwood Mac - Rumours

Here ya go :) took a while, I have a lot of work going on. But this is the re-do of my initial Rumours podcast, though I'm leaving the original also up there for completeness. This time the full dynamics of it are able to express themselves… and just look at what it REALLY was/is. You can still mix like this if you dare. It worked really well the first time…

Remaster: Evergreens Podcast - White Album

So, the original podcast for this was SUCH a wreck that I've been working to fix my tech. And I've done a lot: fixed gain staging, redesigned my system, and even went out and got a turntable upgrade (a 'transcription turntable') to properly present the music I'm featuring. And I've got an album (Tres Hombres) I agreed to do… but I did SO MUCH to improve the Evergreens podcast, that I've begun over. So, now that Evergreens is back, I'm rewinding just a bit. Next will come Rumours (again) and...

Evergreens Podcast 2019-08-28

Hi! Still working on the tech. I've totally revised the recording chain, adjusting all manner of things from the tonearm to use of plugins for filling in the low bass (BassKit to the rescue!), and with this new rig I bring you the second Evergreens Podcast (it's still Wednesday, so I'm still keeping my promise ;) )

And it's Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. Oh boy is there a lot to hear on this one.

Secret Evergreens Podcast

Here we go! As my patron, you will get access to the Evergreens podcast, and back episodes at the link I've provided. Right now, there's a single two hour episode dedicated to The White Album, though future episodes will be shorter, will contain more examples of the classic album source audio (just not complete songs, ever) and will be higher audio quality (since I must self-host they'll be mp3s for space reasons but they'll be over 128kbps and not recompressed like the pilot YouTube episode ...

Emergency Goal Post

In that I have HIT a goal-post… and it seems I've bounced off of it. And I need your opinions, bad.

I've just hit the $1500 a month mark, possibly because of the goal associated with it. And, having done so, I scrambled to do as I promised: launch a Wednesday livestream dedicated to the analyzing of classic vinyl records. It was hella stressful: I didn't expect to get there for several months, and I had nothing prepared, nothing ready. And I even needed to solder some passive EQ stuff...

Side note: Jexus LIVES

Do you know the guy on YouTube circa 2007 or so, who would do amazing  synthesizer demos with patches nobody else could do, coupled with the  most insane VHS-y surreal videos and video treatments? Jexus (WC Olo  Garb), also known as 'oh no, he went away, what a tragedy if only that  guy could return to his music and synth demo making'?

He's alive. And on Patreon, only 130 patrons so far this morning. I am one of them. This is him: 2019-05-15 09:48:20 +0000 UTC View Post

If you're seeing this post, you're a patron of some sort, and if you're on Discord it looks to me like Patreon's bot has already given you access to my server. The update is for AU, Mac VST, Windows VST, and LinuxVST: they're all live, every one. (things ...

Streamings, nothing more than streamings

I've been fooling around with OBS and my streaming setup: started with music streams on Twitch, began to multistream to Youtube, some people kinda liked it. I do mean to do more, but I can't talk with plugin users while playing instruments: my attention is on playing.

So I will be expanding things into more gamey directions, notably Minecraft. I'll be playing on a server that runs my mod code (right now, a 'underground worlds' generator on top of regular Minecraft play), and I'll let people jo...
