Hey guys! So as y'all know from the earlier post, we set out to make flow acrylic art with DIY UV glow paint... and it TOTALLY worked! We were worried because the glow pigment is really thick and chalky and we didn't know if it would end up cracking or just not being compatible when so much of it was being used. Here's how they turned out!

Evan's is the red one, mine is the blue one. We ...

Hey guys! So the glowing paint we posted about on socials yesterday is actually for a glowing UV-pigment acrylic pour! This has been on our list since we made the tiny planets for the space-themed spacebar and saw how cool it was when the glowing pigment TOTALLY changed the look of the acrylic pour.

The UV pigment is super chalky and tends to settle when mixed with paint medium (which we...

We wanted to give you guys an early reveal of something we've been working on since October of 2020! We've been developing this limited edition line of plushies and we just approved the final design and got the prototypes in 😀🎉 We're planning to launch them on April 9th in our next video. It was honestly so much fun to work with a good team to make this happen, sending designs back and forth (Katelyn did all the design work on our end but graciously asked for my input), reviewing protot...

So we've been working on this thermochromic keyboard for 17 days so far... Yes, that means we were working on it even before we had finished our last clear wood project! A lot of manual labor and wait time but we should hopefully know if it's all worth it tomorrow when we put them to the test!!
During the wait time we've really been investing lots of time into the new house search. No real updates on that front but it's at least very encouraging that the more time we spend searching, t...

Thermochromic liquid crystals are super cool. They are what makes the "mood ring" effect possible by twisting and reflecting different color light at different temperatures. You might have seen them used in our mood ring toilet seat or when we turned a xbox controller into a mood ring. One thing that you probably haven't seen is how much our mood ring controller has "aged" since we made it. We've realized that the crystals are very delicate and they have very little adhesion power. We have di...

In this Aftershow we cover:
- How things REALLY went down (The entire timeline is a LIE)
- Evans jigs he built for this project (vacuum chamber lowering rig, pressure pot leveling rig, UV light rig)
- Weight struggles (custom UV weight with clear cut off feet, bags that almost exploded and would have dissolved in one chemical, nuts, and finally custom silicone wrapped lead and nut weights)
- Our last ditch effort that didn't make it to the cut (one last shot at the missed poten...

Y'all... we've found out 5 different ways NOT to make clear wood with lessons learned each time. We thought we had it figured out recently though!!! We might have given ourselves a little helping hand by sanding the wood to 1/2 it's original thickness... which ended up biting us in the butts!! The morning after our success we woke up to this sad excuse for a "piece of wood". It was basically wrinkled paper by that point 🤣 We're not giving up though. We're giving this ONE last shot (because...

We've been working on the clear wood project for days and days, and it's turning out to be a lot more difficult than expected. The process can kinda be broken down into 2 parts: chemical bleaching, and resin infusion. We've gotten better and better at the bleaching process over several attempts (see the latest in the pic below) but we're still not sure if the chemicals are getting all the way into the wood since ours is a little thicker than the wood in the paper.

Hey guys! Been doing a lot of research and ordering of supplies for what we HOPE will work out as our next project: making transparent wood! We've been tagged in this article several times and it's just too cool not to try: https://www.cbc.ca/radio/quirks/scientists-develop-transparent-wood-that-is-stronger-and-lighter-than-glass-1.5902739

Omg you guys we decided to dye the twine for Joob's scratching post a navy-to-pink gradient and it is so much prettier than we even expected. It's really hard to capture in one shot because there's so much twine though haha

Can't wait to see this wrapped! -K

It's so much fun revisiting a project from almost 5 years ago and seeing how much progress we've made as makers! Also yes I know we're somewhat cheating when it comes to switching to walnut haha but look at those next level legs wooo :P Going to start dying the twine now to make it something special. Power is back on for us here so we've started rolling with this cat scratching platform again and hope to have it ready for next Friday. - E

Hey y'all! So, originally this week we were gonna do a project that require us ordering a bunch of specialty items. Then the ice storm hit and all our deliveries were delayed, so we're gonna switch gears and start filming what was gonna be our next project - redoing the very first scratching post we made for Joob! And no, it's not the vertical scratching post we made in the early days of the channel, this is from even longer ago (before the channel *gasp*). The photo here is the original one,...

Hey guys! We've been very much NOT on top of this week's project (you know with the whole house hunt starting) and we realized we hadn't shared with you guys what it is that we're making... a spaced-themed space bar resin keycap! We've been dying to make this ever since our first keycap video (we just needed time to do research on how to do it better, plus we didn't want to do 2 in a row.
The space bar has the whole solar system and we made the planets out of ball bearings. If you...

GET A NEW HOUSE WOOOO!
Why? Because running a business from home means we need more space than we did when we were working our old jobs, so we've really outgrown the place. Specifically, we REALLY need space to split our office/streaming room into 2 different rooms, and of course we need more than a 2 car garage for our ...

We got a wide-angle lens for the thumbnail photo in our turning-pigments-into-paint video and we've been playing with it because it's so satisfying to see an entire room in one photo! Just look at this pic of our garage... it really shows that even though what you see on camera looks decently clean, there's a lot of chaos just out of frame (sorry CNC, you're always a makeshift table when not in use). Also you can see the big hole in the drywall we still need to patch after the mouse/bee...

So you've seen us mix all sorts of pigments, powders, and liquids into resin... but we've been really curious if we can use all those colorants to mix custom acrylic paints! That's what we'll be trying in this week's video :) Also it's a great excuse to use those science robes we got for Christmas!! I did a decent amount of research before this project on the right medium to use (not too thick, not too thin) and also found this crazy "vortex mixer" which should help speed up the mixing proces...

Small and mighty! Not talking about Katelyn (though still quite applicable). I'm talking about her new gaming computer 🤣🙌 So frequently when setting up for an upcoming stream I have to kick Katelyn off her editing computer to get a game installed/change settings/etc because her editing computer was also her gaming computer. Plus there was always the worry about personal information on that computer, so we thought it was worth getting yes, even one more computer for the peace of mind and...

Like we mentioned in the Aftershow, we were considering getting a gold cut out of the play button shape to place in the recessed play button area. The reason is because we couldn't get the resin fully bubble-free, and from certain angles the bubbles were noticeable. Originally we hadn't considered that and the full gold backing seemed to make sense. Anyways, we got the gold cutout in and it looks SO nice. It's a much cleaner mirror finish.

Super super happy with how the mold turned out but when we went to do the resin pours... we realized we can only see the "back" of the cast, not the front, which is pretty nerve wracking. We really have no clue what it will look like till it's fully cured and we pop it out of the mold 😅 but at least every one of y'all will be represented by a little glitter flake so I'm sure it will be beautiful 😃🌟✨ -E

Ok so I'm sure the resin is gonna turn out awesome (gonna be pouring it soon!), but before we get there we gotta give some love to the mold we're making. We really took our time on this: we got lasercut acrylic to make our own plaque, and made a nice mold box instead of a janky one.

It turned out soooo shiny and glossy and sturdy and I just really hope that it translates to the resin! No...

Ok we can't contain it - for our 1M sub special we're making a custom 1M Play Button Award with 1 million pieces of glitter! I won't give away what the pile looks like (though I will admit, I was surprised!) but I will share something I'm very proud of - our devised way of counting them. We measured out 1/32 of a tsp and counted all the glitters in that scoop by using our tiny clay-molding silicone tools (that we got for the space Joob keycap embed) to pick up one glitter at a time, then plac...
