1M Sub Special Video!

Guess what... we're working on our 1M sub special video!! We spent SO much time brainstorming what we should do for this because we want it to be a mix of: a build, sentimental moments, and sharing some never seen before vlog footage of our channel launch day 😁 Katelyn's been digging though our old footage and it's really fun looking back through it!

One hint about the project itself: it involves 1 million of something (and of course, resin)! Also, we wanted to send out a special t...

Resin Keycaps Aftershow

I think we had even more pent up behind the scenes stuff to share than usual on this one! Like...

- Why we were in such a rush
- Behind the scenes of all the uv resin failed tests
- Out of order shenanigans
- Scenes that did not make the final cut
- Why we summarized the uv resin tests instead of including them fully or just cutting them
- Did the brown come out of Evan's clothes?
- Worries about continuity
- What we would change if we did this again
- What pla...

Tiny embed success!

Despite struggles with the molds and the resin, I gotta say I'm pretty proud of how our embeds turned out. We went with a space theme, I molded/painted a tiny clay Supurrvisor in space and Evan painted tiny ball bearings with flow acrylic to make little planets. These might be the tiniest things we've ever made... small enough to fit in a keycap! -K

Don't worry, everything is great, everything is going as planned 😭

We're finally getting to a project that has been on our list for FOREVER: custom resin keycaps 😀 and things are going GREAT... so good... we certainly did not struggle with the silicone molds, and our first prototype is just... so, so... unique 😭 I'm just crying looking at it 🤣 Y'all know us though, we'll keep at it till we make it work, wish us luck! -E

Happy holidays y'all!

Hope everyone is able to enjoy their holidays this year, even if they're a little different with 2020 craziness. After a marathon week of work leading up Christmas, we're going to do our best to take a couple days off, but we just wanted to pop in and let y'all know that we're really grateful for you guys! Thanks for being here with us during this very weird year (and for some of you, for even longer!) <3 E&K

Unexpected "challenges" of filming at home...

I'm being a little dramatic in the title :P But actually I'm looking at a new rug for the living room and it made me realize how much content creation is affecting what options I'm considering! First off, the current gray and white rug is one we got for $200 at a discount store 6 or 7 years ago and it's been barfed on so many times by Joob (honestly, her favorite place to throw up). It also shows cat hair pretty badly as you can see in the photo haha. Despite all that, what finally spurred me...

Cat Bed Made of Jeans Aftershow

Explaining ourselves after making this cursed build 🤣 In today's Aftershow we talk about...

 - less "build" than any video (what was good, what worried us)
- first time sewing fabric in a video
- do we think Joob will warm up to it?
- reflections on what we were thinking when we bought the pillow
- thoughts on projects that rely on a Supurrvisor test
- things that might have worked better (more stuffing? no pillow? flatter?)

Hope everyone has a great weekend...

It's cursed it's so cursed

Well the good news is, we turned the butt into a cat bed. The bad news is, it turned out even more horrific than we imagined because we ended up using TWO stuffed pairs of jeans and it's just so wrong looking haha. I'm not sure if this video will do ok or tank, but honestly the project was so fun to make that I'm ok either way. <3 K

Also Joob kinda likes it, kinda ignores it. Time will tell...

We're making something cursed

So we had the idea to make Joob a cat bed out of jeans because she LOVES being in my lap when I'm wearing jeans. Then when filming the intro, we remembered that about a year ago we bought a butt pillow because we thought it'd be a funny BUY vs DIY. So now the denim cat bed is going to have an actual butt pillow in it. I apologize in advance for how this will inevitably turn out 🤣👏 -Katelyn

Behind the Scenes of YouTube Rewind: Artist Edition!

Woooo the Artist Edition of YouTube Rewind is live! This was SO fun to be a part of. Jackie (NerdECrafter) was the master coordinator and editor of the whole thing and deserves huge props for all the time and effort that went into this. If you haven't watched it yet, first check it out here: https://youtu.be/G4t2M_HXSpI

Evan's nerdy project update: ceiling cable clips after 6 months

So when we started doing live streams I designed and 3D printed these ceiling cable clips to route cables along the ceiling and have really been loving how simple and effective they are (easy cable in and out yet secure). Think I made them at least 6 months ago and here is v1 of the model:

But just recently one or two have failed along the mid point, near the hole. I came up with the very cleve...

Candle Making Aftershow!

Wooo a new craft, a new Aftershow! This one includes lots of impromptu brainstorming. What brainstormed video ideas sound the most fun to y'all?

In this Aftershow we also cover:

- Upcoming candle video ideas (and what we bought a TON of)
- Our thoughts on doing a kit-testing video
- Will we use these?
- Future livestream ideas
- What making skills could we combine this with?
- scenes Katelyn has to cut
- Would we change anything about this video process if we wer...

Shh! Secret Stuff Preview

We may or may not be involved in a secret collab with many other creators and it may be a YouTube Rewind someone in the Arts/Crafting community is putting together 🤫😉 I can't give too many details because we aren't the ones coordinating it, but I'm really excited to see how this all comes together!

We were setting up for a test shot and Evan started impromptu recording a short mini...

Candle reveals (we learned a lot)

We learned SO much about making candles by going into the process somewhat blind. We also probably could have learned many of these things by doing research first, but it makes for a more entertaining video for us to "learn" the hard way on camera haha! You can see the simple candles I made in containers in the top left and Katelyn's fancy molded ones in the top right.

And while we did technically make candles... only 2 of them actually work (both Katelyn's). I used pre-waxed wicks (wi...

Trying Candle Making!

What's this? It's a giant bag-o-wax! We may or may not have known it was gonna be this big when we ordered it...

We're gonna try candle making for the very first time in our next video and I'm really excited. Like soap, it seems very resin-adjacent haha. We actually got 2 different candle-making kits to test: a $19.99 one:

...And a $84.66 one, which is this funky machine.

First Look at our Holiday Shirts!

Psst - we made holiday merch! We're letting you guys know early before our sample pieces have even come in. We've got tees, hoodies, long sleeves, mens/womens/kids, and the design features us, Joob, ham, tools, and string lights. They *are* live on our site as of this morning because it felt like too much of a tease to show these to y'all without them being live, but like I said we haven't received ours in the mail so if you decide to order, just know we haven't seen em IRL yet. Here they are...

Rainbow Resin Aftershow

Hey gang! Welcome to a casual (as usual) Aftershow for our more-casual-than-usual video! In today's Aftershow we cover:

- the joy of doing an experiment video vs finished product
- how confident were we about if this would work
- would we do anything different?
- filming continuously vs spaced out
- the projects we want to use this technique with

Hope y'all have a great weekend! <3 Katelyn

Making the mold for rainbow resin

Update on the rainbow resin experiment! We attached strips of the diffraction grating sheet to scrap MDF and made a silicone mold to capture the texture on the diffraction grating, which we poured 4 different resin tests into (clear, resin w/ glitter, resin w/ alcohol ink, and resin w/ pearlex).

Hope everyone is having a good week :) <3 Katelyn

Resin that diffracts rainbows?

Hey guys! So our next project is a bit of an experimental one... we want to make resin that *literally* diffracts rainbows. We had heard of this stuff called diffraction grating a while back (picture those cardboard "fireworks glasses") and the way that it works is you have a clear plastic sheeting with little ridges on it (aka grating) that breaks white light into all the various colors.

Resin and Wood Computer Aftershow!

Hoooooooo boy! So excited to finally share this video and the Aftershow! In this Aftershow we cover:

- When we actually started this project
- Breaking from our traditions and not editing while filming
- Our worries about if this would make for a good video (again)
- More thoughts on mixing wood and resin
- The various other ways we almost combined wood and resin
- If we were to do this again, what would we do different?
- Glass film shenanigans

Hope you al...

The final wood + resin computer!

Here's the fully finished computer!!! Complete with custom glass top and all the electronics! AAaaaAaAaAHH! We love it so much, it really is one of the pretties things we've made. I can't wait to share the full video (and the behind the scenes Aftershow) Friday.

But if you want a little preview of the computer parts being added, you can watch that on Artesian Builds Twitch archive here (...

The case is built!

The next time you see it it'll be filled with electronics!

It's sooooo pretty. It's definitely one of those pieces we're gonna stare at with heart eye emoji faces. But we didn't have much time to do that in this state because we stayed up til midnight finishing it so we could overnight it to Artesian Builds, who are doing the electronics for us. They overnighted it back and we just got i...

Our faux-cracks worked!

And our faux live edge! (well sorta, I mean you can tell it doesn't go all the way through but that's because we didn't have time to build a mold box to keep the resin contained). This project has been particularly time crunchy because it has to be shipped from TX to CA to TX before the video goes live (we're collabing with a computer building team/company called Artesian Builds, they're adding the electronics for us)

So basically remember those goopy resin-covered boards from the last ...

Starting our next project!

The next project is underway! We're making a wood and resin computer case. We're doing the thing where you get wood with cool cracks and fill them with resin, which we've never done before. We also power carved some additional cracks and attempted to carve a faux live edge. Actual live edge wood tends to be much thicker (the ones we've bought before are usually 1.5-2") and we needed this to be 1/2 inch or less. So hopefully our faux edge looks cool :)

Resin Bob Ross Aftershow

Filming and editing this beast of a video was a marathon! In today's Aftershow we cover:

• What we would do differently
• How did we paint for SO LONG
• Would we ever do this with non-UV resin?
• Our mid-filming existential crisis
• what you see is not fully what happened
• How we thought we'd do it vs how we ACTUALLY did it
• Did we choose a good tutorial for resin?

The Joy of Resin! 🎨👩‍🎨👨‍🎨

Hi there, certainly glad you could join us today. This week we're going to be following a Bob Ross tutorial but with a E&K twist: we'll only be able to use resin hahaha! As if following a Bob Ross tutorial was not hard enough. We still have a hard time grasping how he can knock out these in 30 minutes 🤯 Going to be UV resin again so that we can cure layers really fast and build up some detail. Wish us luck! -E

Resin Pumpkin Aftershow!

I'm assuming if you're watching this now, you've already seen how the video ended. Let me just say, I can still smell it when I watch the video and the memories flood my brain 🤣. In this Aftershow we cover:

- Reaction when we came home and they'd gone bad
- Thoughts on moving them inside
- Will we cover other food in resin?
- Things we would have done differently

Hope everyone has a good weekend! <3 Katelyn

What it takes to get a thumbnail

Yes, those are all photos of us trying to get a thumbnail and only a small fraction of photos taken 🤣 This is what happens when you put your camera in rapid fire mode while you pour water over your pumpkins (pretending it is resin)

Not sure if people would really believe we would waste resin like that but now you guys know our watery secret :P -E

Pumpkin Project

Ok guys, this week's project has actually been in the works for about a month! You also may have noticed blurred pumpkins in the background of our transparent screen video...

We conducted an experiment to see what would happen if we covered a car...
