Dopamine ‘doping’ for power output

Dopamine is a well known neurotransmitter often associated with the brain's reward system, and has also been srudied for its role in controlling skeletal muscle mass and force production. Some papers have shown that the activation of dopamine receptors, particularly dopamine 1 and dopamine 5 receptors, directly influence skeletal muscle physiology in some pretty cool ways.

One key mechanism through which dopamine affects skeletal muscle is by increasing muscle mass and force product...

The vjdeo above talks about how to use shockwave therapy for MSK pain and various injuries. Shockwave is probably the second best ‘passive’ treatment modality aside from PEMF for treating complex pain and injuries.

A brief overview on shockwave therapy

The EDS and yeast connection

This is particularly important post/info to know if you have a diagnosed connective tissue disorder (or you know you have mutations in genetive tissue genes) and are struggling to eradicated something like Candida/yeast

6 years ago, I made the connection between connective tissue disorders like EDS (ehlers danlos), mitral valve prolapse, and reoccurent, systemic Candida and fungal infections ancedotelly. This was after analyzing over 20 clients who had done an iridology exam. Iridology...

Supplements I’m experimenting with (7/21/24)

A ‘panacea’ supplement comparable to PEDS for power output? Sounds too good to be true

5-amino-1MQ is a small, membrane permeable molecule (so not exactly a peptide although it’s often lumped into that category) that has gained a lot of attention for potential benefits in within the context of muscle growth, fat metabolism and (most importantly in my opinion) dramatically improving muscle strength and power output. Some have even claimed it helped them to shave .3...

My shake recipe & reasoning

The nutritional shake I drink everyday has been a part of my diet for the past 6-7 years. One of the reasons I like having a liquid meal thrown into a diet is because it’s particularly easy to digest and it’s easy way to conviently cram a lot of good nutrition in there.

There’s also some good data on replacing meals with 1 or 2 liquid meals, particularly for individuals with SIBO and other gastrointestinal issues.

While the shake is obviously blended, it’s still a good i...

Topical fungal protocol

Fungal infections on the skin, such as those caused by Candida species, can be interconnected with gut health, and the relationship between skin and gut health is increasingly understood to be bidirectional rather than unidirectional. While it's well known that gut dysbiosis (an imbalance in gut microbiota) can influence skin health, there is growing evidence to suggest that skin conditions can also impact gut health.

The skin and gut are both heavily involved in the body's i...

Natural testosterone optimization guide

Optimizing natural testosterone and hormone production requires a multi-faceted approach that addresses various pillars of good health. While this article cannot possibly encompass all the relevant steps involved, we will cover some basic lifestyle recommendations in addition to some supplemental strategies. It's important to note that the testosterone equation is influenced just as much by how you choose to live and what you avoid as it is by the supplements you take and the foods you eat. W...

When we think about micro organisms like parasites and bad bacteria, we can clearly see examples of these ‘bad bugs’ altering human behavior in negative ways.

In a pathological context, we know that parasites like toxoplasma gondii can infect many warm-blooded animals, including cats and humans. In cats, which are its definitive hosts, it completes its sexual reproduction cycle. When it infects intermediate hosts, such as rodents, the parasite manipulates their behavior...

Q: Should choline and citrulline be avoided due to heart disease risk

A:

I think that's a little over blown. There are definitely associations with certain nutrients and the development and progression of certain disease. So there's nuance that needs to be added depending on the health status of the individual. But that's kind of what I'm getting at — the health status of the individual is largely what determines that and how things get used. N...

Q: Thoughts on idea that leaky skin driving disease vs a reflection of health internally

A:

Everything is interdependent and bi directional. skin issues can be a reflection of health 'on the inside' like you mentioned, but they can also feed back into the problem and drive those changes as well. That is a credible idea. dermatological conditions will contribute to systemic low-grade inflammation and immune dysregulation. Remember, the skin is a l...

Strategies for resetting the circadian clock

To effectively shift your circadian clock while traveling, it’s crucial to establish a strong diurnal rhythm before departure. By doing this, your body will rely on familiar cues to modulate sleep-wake cycles more effectively, in combination with the adjuncts listed below. If your circadian clock is already dysregulated before leaving, these strategies will not be as effective

We don't need to spend too much time on this, but the most important factors in setting your circadian rhythm...

Three ways to make your red light therapy sessions more effective

1. Press the panel into your skin

When the red light panel is pressed closer to the skin, several physical principles come into play that enhance the effectiveness of the therapy:

Irradiance is the power of electromagnetic radiation per unit area (measured in mW/cm²). By reducing the distance between the light source and the skin, the irradiance increases, meaning more energy is delivered to the skin in a shorter period. Light penetration into tissues follows the principles of...

Two underground supplements for chronic pain and inflammation + a new perspective on inflammation

Is everything you know about manual therapy wrong? A novel perspective and application

I want you to think of manual therapy as the recovery of localized, dynamic spaciousness within a tissue or structure via an applied external force — wait what?

When we train, we apply local and systemic forces to the body. Similarly, manual therapy also exerts an external ‘force’ on the tissue, which the body will still have to respond ‘reflexively’ to. In this sense, we shouldn’t think about manual therapy as being ‘passive’ and strength training as being ‘activeâ€...

My story using medical hydrogen gas ear insufflation for hearing loss and tinnitus

For those who aren't familiar with my journey with partial hearing loss, I'll briefly share it here.

I experienced several incidents—some chronic, some acute—that led to 30-40% hearing loss during high school and late into college. Specifically, I lost about 25% of my hearing in my right ear and 40% in my left ear.

I did just about everything imaginable that could contribute to hearing loss. I frequently attended loud concerts, often standing and or being positioned...

Q: Any reason glycine makes me more irritable instead of sleepy

A:

Yes. A lot of people can have paradoxical reactions to glycine. It's a co-agonist (I believe) of the NMDA receptor. which is a subtype of glutamate receptor. So when glycine levels are elevated it can potentiate the excitatory effects of glutamate on the receptors can cause an increase calcium influx and excitotoxicity. But then again like I mentioned in the last story, people can...

A peptide for treatment resistant depression — a safer alternative to SSRI’s?

Neuropeptides, which are peptides active within the central nervous system, are increasingly recognized as key players in the development and manifestation of depression. Studies have indicated that peptides such as vasopressin, galanin, and neuropeptide Y play a crucial role in the regulation of monoamine receptor activity. This suggests that the issue with depression may not be as simple as a ‘chemical imbalance but rather a complex issue of improper chemical regulation and signaling mech...
