As of a few days ago, the LDM feed has been restored and NWS bulletins are functioning again. The bash script has been tested and found to be functioning correctly, so it has been deployed on the cod server. Whenever the next IP change occurs, the downtime for the LDM feed should be minimal thanks to the script.

LDM functionality to retrieve NWS bulletins are still not operational as of this point. There has been some back and forth between me and the COD staff to get it back online by automating the process on their side to update the IP address of the data server in their appropriate LDM conf file whenever the IP changes.
I wrote a bash script to accomplish this task, but it did not work during their first test runs due to misunderstandings in communication. I have since rewritten the script ...

The data server has been successfully transported across the country and I have gotten it operational again with exception to the NWS warning and advisory products (horizontal warning crawl and the vertical scrolling advisory screen in the simulator).
Unfortunately, getting the warnings functional again is not going to be simple because the backend feed software for it (LDM) is intentionally designed to be hostile to feed requestors that are at the mercy of a frequently changing IP addr...

I've successfully coordinated getting the data server relocated to a safe location. In addition, I was able to get it back online for a short time, and transfer the backups to multiple locations. I am arranging transport for the server in early June, and hoping it can be back in operation within the next month.
I am sorry that this situation has occurred, but am doing the best I can within my capabilities to recover from it.

On Sunday evening, the data server once again went offline, due to malicious actions on-site. This was the second such occurrence in two weeks, as it went offline earlier in the month for the same reason. In both instances, the network cable was intentionally removed.
It has become clear that I am going to need to physically relocate the server to another location, but since it is located several thousand miles away from where I reside, this is proving difficult to plan. It is also too ...

On December 18th, a major wind storm affected the northeast and did extensive damage to the power grid. As a result, the data server went offline around 10am ET after its UPS battery was depleted. Unfortunately I do not reside on site where the server is located, so I can only coordinate things remotely.
Power has been temporarily restored via backup generator, but the internet infrastructure is also offline due to the wind damage and there is no ETA on when it might be operational agai...

Around October 16, the NWS website which the simulator data server uses for METAR observations changed their URLs for data access. This caused retrieving the METARs to fail, which led to an outage for all observations in the simulator.
This problem was straightforward to fix since it only required a code update and recompile on the data server side, and not in the simulator itself. As of October 23, observations should be functional in the simulator again.

The simulator data and website had issues from approximately July 15th through the 24th. These have been resolved and things should be back to functioning properly as of the 24th of July. I am sorry for the inconvenience. Some were concerned this meant this project was abandoned, but that is not the case.
In addition, I have made some changes on the data server side to address crashes that were happening when the simulator attempted to display a warning crawl product that contained unex...

As most of you are probably already aware, the radar in the simulator ceased functioning in mid December. This is a direct result of major changes that the National Weather Service made with the radar data on their servers. They have permanently discontinued the radar echo data source that the simulator used.
In order to get the radar in the simulator functioning again, it will in essence require a complete rewrite of the radar processing code to use the new data source, as it is that d...

I wanted to give an update on the status of this project and other things. First, given the situation going on in the world right now, I understand that a lot of people have been severely affected financially. With that in mind, coupled with the difficulties I have been having in my life since last year which have affected this project, I have made the decision to suspend payment processing for now. At a future date, I will reevaluate whether to reinstate payment processing, dependent on how ...

You may have noticed in recent days that there were outages on the Travel Cities Forecast and Extended Forecast. These were caused by some problems with the National Weather Service CONUS forecast grids. These appear to have been fixed, so everything should be resolved now and functioning properly again.

Within the next few days, the payment processing will be switched to charge up front. For existing supporters, you will not see any change. The difference will be for new supporters. If you're considering pledging to this project, instead of having to wait until the beginning of the next month, once charge up front is operational, your pledge will be processed immediately. This will not apply to those who signed up to pledge this current month before charge up front was activated.

You will soon be able to set a local time zone for locales, which will be applied to times shown on the Almanac segment and the clock. Very useful for running simulations for locales that are not in the time zone your computer is set for. As always, $5 and above supporters will get early access to this new feature through the closed beta releases.

Over the next few days we will be migrating the taiganet.com website and forums to a new hosting provider, as our existing one is imposing a 3x monthly rate hike.
During this timeframe, there may be issues accessing the forums. For those of you with v4 beta access, this will also affect some of the data that version 4 relies on our server for. This data includes observations and forecasts. I am hoping that the transition is completed successfully by the beginning of October, but as ...

Since v4 has been in early release since mid May, there is no real development to report other than bug fixes. Therefore, the monthly development summaries will cease for now until a point where we have begun development on new features in v4. This will happen once v4 has been released to the public.
Thanks again for supporting this project!
