I apologize for my lack of Patreon posts during the past few months. The reason for the lack of posts is that I had been busy, looking for a house, buying a house, moving into a house, etc. Since I have finally moved into a new home, I utilized Patreon funds to set up my recording room. As you can see in the attached video, I bought numerous sound panels which allows for a more crisp audio in my videos. Without support from my patrons, I honestly would not have been able to do this. So, I wan...

On April 16th, 2024, the Ruang volcano in Indonesia produced a volcanic eruption with little warning. This grew in intensity until a powerful plinian eruption occurred less than 48 hours later. I plan to make a far longer post detailing several interesting & notable aspects of this VEI 4 eruption. However, one of my patrons wanted me to post the full timeline which was cutoff by my end-video graphics. This is the relevant graphic:
Any thoughts? I will answer any questions posed abou...

Yesterday, news broke that an unexpected volcanic eruption had occurred in the Aleutian Island chain. Specifically, on the island of Atka, which itself is about 6 times larger than the District of Columbia. Atka Island (area is approximately 1000 square kilometers) contains the Atka volcano, which on March 27th produced a weak phreatic eruption at 7:36 pm local time.
On the surface, this seems like a self-explanatory subject. After all, the only settlement on Atka island is the city of ...

At a surface level, this seems like a fairly simple answer. The Reykjanes volcano. After all, it is primed for yet another eruption to occur. And if not, maybe Fagradalsfjall will come to life and produce an eruption for the 4th year in a row?
However, to make this a more interesting mental exercise, let’s completely remove those two volcanoes from the above question.
With 32 other volcanoes to choose from, which do I think have the highest likelihood of being the next volcano t...

It once again appears that a volcanic eruption will occur fairly soon at Iceland’s Reykjanes volcano, at least in my opinion. Before I present why I am making this claim, I want to note that I’m not making a claim that an eruption is imminent. Instead, I’m suggesting the Reykjanes volcano might erupt between February 7th and February 11th. And no, a magma run event is not yet occurring as I make this post.
Since October 25th 2023 when the latest state of activity ...

The above image displays a narrow cross section of the Earth's interior, which also states the layer's thickness, state of matter, and density.
Typically, the vast majority of earthquakes which occur originate in our planet's crust as you generally need a non flexible rock to move to generate such an event, unlike what is often found in the mantle. However, if you have looked inland of certain subduction zones such as in Bolivia, Kamchatka (Russia), or Tonga, you may have occasion...

For those of you who have seen the fictional movie "Dante's Peak", you might recall the infamous hot spring scene, where a previously fairly harmless body of water was turned into a highly acidic lethal temperature hot spring. In the film, this occurred due to an intrusion of magma which heated the overlying groundwater.
While this can actually occur in real life, sometimes, a dramatic drop in gas emissions and temperatures can be equally problematic. Today's video will discuss a ...

Within the lower 48 U.S. states, many of the 47 active volcanoes are well known. Mount Rainier, Mount Hood, Lassen Peak.
Yet, due to incorrect perception by some members of the wider public, there is a forgotten volcanic hazard. The culprit? Supposedly dormant volcanoes. These are volcanoes which have not erupted in the last 11,650 years (the Holocene period) but are possible to one day erupt again.
Examples of dormant volcanoes include:
Santa Clara in...

Since my contract involves me creating between 3 and 7 videos, this project may expand or narrow in scope depending on how my work progresses.
All of these videos specifically sponsored by: the European Union and NS Kožare who are paying me to make videos on the geologic features within the nation of Slovakia.

Per the U.S. Geological survey, Alaska contains around 27,000 glaciers! I visited one of these ice age era relics east of Denali National Park today. Specifically, took a helicopter ride to Alaska’s Yanert glacier. You can expect much of what I filmed to be used as stock footage to represent various colder environments and glacial features in numerous future videos. I saw some sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rock in the glacial moraine, 2 moose, lots of permafrost melting related land...

Caves around the planet largely occur in limestone, but in other circumstances they can occur in materials such as basalt, ice, or salt. Yet, in Chile, a series of caves on the shoreline of General Carrera lake occur within colorful layered marble. Here, the colors of blue, orange, black, and white provide a stunning range of colors. In these photos, I have labeled how each color formed, along with a large rock fold an adjacent rock has. This marble originated from limestone 320 million years...

I made this graphic to provide a timeline of volcanism at Arizona’s recently active fields. Any questions? Do you want a dedicated video on one of these volcanic fields? Be sure to let me know!

The state of Alaska has a surprisingly large number of fairly large islands, many of which are either completely uninhabited or sparsely populated. One of these is Umnak Island, which is only around 6% smaller than the island of Maui. Yet, despite its size, less than 50 people live there.
On Umnak Island there are three volcanoes, the first of which I am about to mention is the most famous; Okmok.
Okmok produced a powerful volcanic eruption in 43 BCE (a mid end VEI 6) which ...

Due to patreon memberships, I have bought some new equipment. In this case, a drone (for filming) and a microphone/set-up for recording outdoors while walking, even in windy conditions. This way, the next time a volcano erupts I can provide live/near-live footage via drone and news style reports in person.
Over the past few weeks I have been practicing with both to make sure I can make them work when the next volcanic eruption I travel to occurs.

I am planning to cover more large volume explosive eruptions from various volcanoes. This list portrays the largest VEI 6+ eruptions which have occurred during the Holocene in North America. Perhaps to the surprise of some, Mount Saint Helens only appears on this list once. Yet, volcanoes in Alaska appear on it 11 times. Are there any volcanoes on this list which you wish for me to specifically cover? Masaya or Apoyeque perhaps? Be sure to let me know.

I am planning a series of several videos which be posted in the next 2-3 weeks, assuming that a major volcanic eruption doesn’t occur.
Video topics include:
-The Corbetti Caldera & Awasa Caldera (Ethiopia)
This is an active supervolcano on the African continent with confirmed Holocene eruptions. It also is the site of magmatic uplift.
-Ugashik-Peulik Volcano (Alaska)
A unique volcano with a difficult to pronounce name, this complex has a notable several k...

Tomorrow (January 24th 2023) I will be posting a video about the Dukono volcano in Indonesia. I wish to give a special thanks to the Extreme Pursuit YouTube channel for granting me permission to use his footage.

Approximately 1 year ago, the Hunga Tonga Hunga Ha’apai (on January 15th 2022) generated a powerful plinian eruption. This obliterated much of the existing volcanic island. Well, I have several videos upcoming (as I just got permission) which cover what the remains of this island now look like. From up close! (I didn’t film it but someone who did has granted me permission to use it). Any questions?

You might have noticed that in the last week both Kilauea & Mauna Loa stopped erupting. This begs the question, did one volcano trigger a decrease in activity at another? Theoretically, yes, it can indirectly cause changes.
The U.S. Geological Survey stated on Twitter that (this is a direct quote):
“For "stress effects" think of two kids in the back seat of a car. They don't share the same set of veins or nerves, but they can still influence one another. One pushes the othe...

It might come as a surprise to some people, but the state of Oregon contains two subglacial volcanoes; tuyas. They are Hayrick Butte and Hogg Rock. They are easy to access, and could potentially represent a great textbook/classroom example of this landform. They are composed of andesite / borderline basaltic andesite lavas. The state of Washington also has a few tuyas but they are less spectacular and harder to access.

Although many volcanoes around the world have confirmed eruptions (as either observed or dated via radiometric dating and other methods), a surprisingly high number of volcanoes fall under the category of “presumed active, but with no known Holocene eruption although one is suspected.” The Clear Lake volcano in California was one such volcano. However, due to recently presented evidence, this is no longer t...

For Thursday, September 15th, I am planning a video on a specific volcano in Katmai National Park.
