Hydroponic Greenhouse Facility

Hi all,

Here’s the first cyberpunk battle map drop of the month - “The Hydroponic Greenhouse Facility”. This has been a much requested map and I’m glad that I finally created it.

This battle map was a really big struggle for me due to the canopy layers. The canopy feature had to be a functional part of this rather large facility but at the same time, it had to look good. Making sure those two elements come together isn’t easy. I hope I managed to create something that you all will love gaming on!

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the map variants.

Map Variants

Base Map & Canopy Layers

Two canopy layers are provided:

  • Level 1 - The ones that come with the overhanging walkways and stairs
  • Level 2 - The upper tier botanical plant pods

Please note: the Level 2 Canopy layer is highly experimental! I almost didn’t want to include it because it blocks a lot of the map view and doesn’t really provide much more in terms of functionality. But due to the height this layer sits at, it really adds that verticality factor to the map. It looks cool so I figured some of you might want to play with it and see what happens.

My personal opinion - Skip the Level 2 Canopy and just use the Level 1 alone.

The Mist

The two air ducts to the north of the map releases some sort of greenish mist. What does the mist do? Is it poisonous? Or are the engineers of this hydroponic facility experimenting with some sort of plant growth accelerant?

One thing’s for sure though, the density of the mist is much higher on the ground level than it is anywhere else (hint: get to the safety of the canopies).

Overgrowth

The botanical engineers at this greenhouse facility have lost control of their experiment(s). The plants have started to grow out of control and their growth is accelerating. What’s more, your players arrive to find the facility abandoned.

Seems simple enough mission for the players. Investigate the cause of the botanical overgrowth in this abandoned complex. Obtain the experimental serum. Go home. All whilst making sure they did not breathe in any of the plant spores that act like a virus that can mutate/alter the human genome.

Hang on, this mission sounds oddly familiar.

Have fun with this one people!

The Water Dam

The Water Dam

Image size - 5280 x 7560 px

Grid - [44 x 63] 120 DPI

Hi guys!

Okay here we go, the final map of March. I am so proud to present one my favorite cyberpunk battle maps of all time - The Water Dam.

This battle map is humongous. It covers such a large amount of ground that I had to resort to setting the grid to 1 square = 10 ft. For those of you who use virtual tabletop softwares (Foundry VTT, Roll 20, Fantasy Grounds Unity etc), it makes no difference as you can set up whatever grid sizes suit your games within the software.

Water Dam Overview

This water dam consists of a long, straight dam wall and a lower water drainage area (which probably leads to a river of sorts). In the middle of the dam wall lies a landing pad for cargo deliveries.

You can narratively chain this map with the Secret Facility map I created a while back.

The lower drainage area has a gateway that leads off to other parts of this facility. It might lead to the Sewer Canals and then Sewer Temple, as an example.

There is also the huge cylindrical tower. Now this one, can be literally anything. I just had to draw it in because of the cool looking shape that pulls the whole map together. In my mind’s eye, this tower is some sort of hydroelectric power harvesting plant. But call it whatever you want.

Closing Comments

I had a really fun time painting this one, experimenting with different brush textures to create a more painterly effect. One patron asked me recently why I had changed my art style where my brush strokes are not as uniform and neat as they were in the past. The answer is “evolution”. It is normal for artists to want to try new ways of doing things, to better convey their ideas. Painting the same way over and over again doesn’t really excite me. This is why experimenting with this battle map really hit the spot and the result really did it for me.

Let’s do a quick rundown of the map variants.

Map Variants

Night

Perfect for an espionage mission where the players have to get past security patrols along the wall, to the cylindrical tower to stop a group of terrorists from blowing up the power plant.

Winter

This one is well-suited to all out combat. With the frozen lake, there is suddenly a huge amount of space to launch (or defend against) a full scale assault on the dam wall.

Cracked Wall & Explosion

This is a two-stage sequence map variant.

Something had detonated within the base, rattling the dam. Structural integrity has been compromised and the wall has started to rumble and crack. The players have to escape to safety within x number of rounds before the whole wall collapses. Anyone caught on the lower levels are done for when this thing blows.

The High-Class Restaurant

Dimensions: [15 x 18] squares

Image size: 3000 x 3600 px

DPI: 200

Hello everyone,

I'm excited to share with you the first battle map of the month: "The High-Class Restaurant." This map is yet another one of the highly requested ones.

This venue is an exclusive space aimed at the wealthy elites of the city (or space station). In the world of cyberpunk, most venues are automated by A.I. and robotics. High-class restaurants like this one are few and far in between.

The restaurant not only offers human-waitered table service, but also the best vintages of wine and non-kibble, actual human-prepared food prepared by chefs in a commercial kitchen.

But dining here comes at a hefty premium, and table availability is limited to ensure the restaurant patrons receive the best experience possible. Adorned with beautiful marble flooring and opulent gold ornaments, this space makes for a truly remarkable dining experience.

As some of you may have noticed, I've been drawing quite a few battle maps based on wealthy-elite spaces lately. However, I want to keep things fresh and interesting for everyone, so I’ll try switching things up a bit over the next few maps. I have a long list of different battle map ideas that you all in Discord server have been providing me with. I’m working my way through that list, one by one.

Stay tuned for more exciting creations to come! If you like this map, show me some love and drop me a comment down below.

Map Variants

The Kitchen

This is a highly functional commercial restaurant kitchen, equipped with multiple food preparation benches and cook stoves, among other features. The wide panel viewing window is a standout feature, similar to those seen on Gordon Ramsey's "Hell's Kitchen".

On Fire

Something has gone wrong and the cooking gas cylinders under one of the cooktops have ignited, causing half of the kitchen to burst into flames. The small inferno has blocked access to the rear exit door. Is this a catastrophic scenario or the perfect distraction? You decide.

Kitchen & On Fire Base(s)

These variants come without the wall separating the kitchen and the dining area, allowing for a view of the entire kitchen’s floor space. This come with normal and on-fire flavors.

Cybernetics Boutique Clinic & Spa

Battle map dimensions - [16 x 21]

3200 x 4200 px (200 DPI)

Hi to all my super-supporters both old and new,

Here is the last cyberpunk battle map for February and it turned out to be one of my all-time favorites! If you've been waiting to show your players where the uber-rich people go to get their cybernetic alterations and upgrades done, now is the time.

In cyberpunk settings, the average Joe visits back alley cyber-docs (got a map for that) for illegal cyberware upgrades. The elite members of society prefer safer, more private (and away from the public eye) establishments like this boutique cyberware clinic. The poor folks don't get upgrades.

Remember, this is not a hospital. I purposely designed this clinic to be small, chique. This is an exclusive joint and not everyone can afford to get fixed up here. Privacy is of the utmost importance and the clinic would only ever receive two patrons at any one time. And even so, it would be rare for clients to bump into one another.

This cybernetics boutique clinic features:

  • A small but cozy reception area manned by only one staff member
  • A small tea garden/atrium with a rock pool
  • Surgical doctor's consultation room
  • Two R&R (rest and recuperation) post-surgery rooms
  • Latest cybernetic wares display window
  • Surgical theater
  • Spa and massage room with a large curved display panel

As per the request of a few Patreon supporters on Discord, I have added a flight of stairs and also an elevator that suggests a second level to the clinic. That space could house medical supplies, equipment, restrooms and so forth. If you'd rather have a smaller space, use the Cryogenic Services variant instead.

Battle Map Variants

Cryogenic Services

Some folks want to go into cryogenic stasis for a whole slew of reasons. You can have this boutique clinic offer cryogenic services as well with this map variant.

For you Altered Carbon players, these coffins would offer storage for "sleeves" belonging to the elite clientele.

Dead Surgical Staff

Your players plan to kidnap a wealthy businessman. Word from a trustworthy source says that he is to have some cyberdeck repairs done, here at this clinic. However, the group arrives to find the businessman missing and the surgical theater has turned into a murder scene.

Among the dead staff is also a dead (or bleeding out) mercenary.

Corporate Rooftop Landing Pad

Battle Map Dimensions - [36x51]

DPI - 100

Image resolution - 3600 x 5100 px

Hi again all,

It’s time for another cyberpunk battle map drop! The first map of the month is this corporate rooftop landing pad. In my opinion, this kind of battle map is a staple for many cyberpunk and sci-fi settings. It should gain a lot of mileage in your campaigns.

This one took me about 1.5 weeks of full-time drawing to complete. The last time I attempted something similar was with the Skybridge map, which took me about three weeks to complete. Not to mention, this map spans 51 squares long, making it the largest map I’ve drawn to date. So yay to getting faster at painting!

The rooftop features a comms array tower, power generators and a H1 sized landing pad for small aerial transports. I wanted to create building owned by a tech conglomerate, and feel "like" the Arasaka tower (Cyberpunk 2077), and painterly like background cell art from the 1995 Ghost In The Shell anime movie.

Map Variants

Pop-up Turrets

These auto-targeting gun turrets lie dormant under the floor panels in cylindrical shafts, until authorized trespassers are detected within the building's immediate airspace.

Due to their telescopic design, they are still able to fire at targets that manage to land on the pads. The ultra-wealthy tend to overcompensate when it comes to security measures.

Executive Transport AV

This small transport aerial vehicle is one classy ride and not commonly seen throughout the city, but it does frequent this corporate building, shuttling VIPs and exec's to and from business meetings.

Want to kidnap a corporate target? It's not going to be easy. Security gets even tighter once inside the building. Best to take your chances with the security turrets, after all, there's only two of them.

The Easter Egg

Did any of you recognize this transport AV? Its design was inspired by the Excalibur from Cyberpunk 2077. This particular vehicle was also seen in the Auto Shop HQ map, being repaired or stripped for parts.

Storyline Idea

Your players have a contact who works at the auto garage that managed to salvage a crashed Excalibur. If paid enough, he/she could rig the transport to possibly bypass the security check at the rooftop, allowing access into the building via the corporate rooftop.

Dead Space Cyberpunk Bar

Dimensions - [23 x 15]

Image resolution - 4600 x 3000 pixels

DPI - 200

Hi my super-awesome supporters,

It's time again for a battle map drop! The last map of this month is a bar that is highly inspired by Cyberpunk 2077’s “Afterlife”. For copyright reasons obviously, I had to make this one my own. Welcome to the Dead Space bar my friends.

The Afterlife in the 2077 game was a morgue converted into a bar. Cold lockers repurposed as liquor shelves and bar fridges. More on the morgue connection below.

This is a place where most of your players might come for some for some R&R or to gain intel from the wide variety of patrons that frequent this establishment. One thing’s for sure, sitting down and having a few drinks will bring out the best in character roleplaying.

But, the Dead Space bar offers so much more. Close quarter combat, drug deal and illegal firearms raids, crime syndicate business meetings, and murder investigations just to name a few.

Map Narrative Chaining

You can literally throw this bar map into any scenario within your campaign, but what occurred to me when I started drawing this map was that it can be seamlessly connected to the Viper Club Nightclub! The bar could just be a quieter section of that expansive club.

In addition, the Afterlife was modelled off a morgue. Huh, what do ya know, it just happens that I drew a morgue battle map last year that also fits perfectly with the Dead Space bar. Click the links to check it out.

Now, let's take a look at some of the fun variants that are part of this map pack.

Battle Map Variants

Escape Hatch

Someone has ripped one of the panels off the wall to reveal a circuitry shaft. It’s a tight squeeze for an escape route. That someone, or something, would have to be small enough, but also incredibly strong. Or maybe the individual had a little bit of help?

This variant comes as a swappable tile to be used in your favorite virtual tabletop software (Roll20, Foundry VTT, Fantasy Grounds Unity etc).

The Bar Brawl

A fight breaks out at the back part of the bar. Rubbish strewn and tables flipped. Traces of semi-dried blood puddles. What the heck went down here, and who was involved?

This variant comes in the swappable tile format.

Bar Brawl (Pink)

Crime scene investigation light reveals pink traces of blood splatters that trail off towards the north exit.

This variant comes in the swappable tile format.

The Secret Meeting

Mysterious individuals meet behind closed doors. It is uncertain whether they’re dealing in illegal commodities or just having a friendly catch up, but one things for sure - this room is reserved for VIP’s only and they cost a heck of a lot to book.

This variant comes in the swappable tile format.

Sky Mansion Gardens

Image resolution - 4060 x 6440

Dimensions - [29 x 46]

DPI - 140

Hey there my beloved Patreon supporters! Welcome to 2023 y’all! I hope you’ve all had a well-deserved break over the festive period and are ready to game.

I’ve had many Patreon supporters on Discord, asking me to finish off the Mansion series with a garden area. It took me over a year to get inspired by this concept.

So, to kick off the new year, we have the Sky Mansion Gardens. This battle map continues the narrative from earlier maps of mine - Cyber Mansion and Mansion Library.

These two maps were created in the first year of me starting Frag Maps. My art style had evolved a lot over a 2.5 year period and I’m sure you guy have noticed the difference. Can’t be helped, it’s called “progress”?

For those of you who are new here, the mansion was highly inspired by Altered Carbon’s Sountouch House - aka the Bancroft palace. This battle map took a heck of a long time to create as there were many aspects of such a garden and mansion exterior that I was mentally unfamiliar with. Thus, a lot of research had to be done. A lot of drawing, re-drawing, rinse and repeat. This is quite a massive map in both size and undertaking. I hope you like the final product!

Map Variants

Regular Gardens

This variant is for those of you who happen to require a regular “grounded” mansion, instead of a fancy one sitting high above the clouds. It adds a western entry point to the mansion grounds. High outer walls provide a high amount of cover.

This variant comes in the form of a baked-in map.

Landing Pad

A landing pad fit for small transport AV’s situated north of the mansion grounds. This variant is provided in a swappable tile format.

Turret

“As your players approach the building’s main double doors, one of them hears a whirling sound emanating from the northern corner of the building. Suddenly, one of the gold-plated embellishments slide open revealing a large, menacing-looking las cannon pointed right at them..."

This variant is provided in a swappable tile format.

Secret Passage

Your players may notice something odd about the dirt on the floor that surrounds on the garden’s stone features. If they bothered investigating, they will find that under the stone lines a secret passage that offers access into the mansion’s basement, undetected.

This passageway is actually utilized as an escape route by the elite folk that live in the opulent mansion.

Cyberpunk Sewer Temple

Dimensions - [23 x 35] squares

Scale - 1 sq = 5 ft

Image size - 4600 x 7000 px (200 DPI)

Hey everyone,

Happy New Years and a belated Merry X’mas to you all! You all have been so supportive of the work I’ve been doing this entire year, and at this time of year I feel especially grateful.

With the map of December, we have a narrative continuation from a couple of maps. Your players might have first come across the technomancer zealots from the Japanese Garden, then followed his trail all the way to the Sewer Canal. If their investigations were successful they would have learned about an old and mysterious temple located deep in the sewers. This is where they come face to face with the Technomancer and his cultists.

The full map chain series of events (only a suggestion):

Sky Bridge - Koi Hotel - Japanese Garden - Sewers Canal - Sewers Temple

This is a rather large battle map (by my standards) and I spent the whole month working on it on and off between family X’mas gatherings. I haven’t had much of a break from drawing during 2022 and decided it was high time to take a breather, since I knew many of you would be away from your games as well. Thus I am only releasing one map this month and spent the majority of the time polishing this one till I was happy.

Note: Those of you who are new here, know that my Patreon model works on a Per Map basis. Meaning, Patreon only bills you when I release a map. It’s not a monthly subscription.

Now, let me walk you through the battle map variants.

Base Map & Temple Gates

The Temple Gates is a .PNG file with transparent properties that is designed to be an overlay, on top of the Base map. You do this in your favorite virtual tabletop software such as Foundry VTT, Fantasy Grounds Unity, Roll20, just to name a few.

The Technomancer & Technomancer Cultists

The players arrive to discover that the Technomancer’s body is badly damaged and mostly shrivelled up, preserved within a lotus flower looking glass tank with all sorts of cables protruding from it.

I have provided an optional map tile containing four cultists who are tethered directly to the Technomancer. The possible narratives are:

  • The Technomancer is attempting to transfer his consciousness back into human body form via the cultists, divided equally into four parts. This makes him harder to kill (decentralization baby).
  • The cultists are downloading some specific fragments of code from the Technomancer which will allow them to better carry out his ultimate plan.
  • The Technomancer is siphoning T cells from specific cultists to regrow his physical body after being badly damaged. This process is already near completion.

The Black Sphere (Closed, Open)

Okay I have to admit, I totally ripped this idea from the movie “Gantz”. One of my favorite modern-day cyberpunk movies.

A mysterious black metal sphere lies centrally on the temple floor. Alien looking glyphs eminate from the black surface. When the players touch the glyphs in the right order, there sphere opens up to reveal….

Over to you GM’s!

Let me know how you like this one guys. I’m going back into full production mode come January. I look forward to drawing even more epic battle maps for your cyberpunk and sci-fi campaigns in 2023!

Auto Shop Garage Base - Series Part 2

Hey all!

Here we go, last map of November and this marks the completion of this cyberpunk auto shop.

To those who are new to this Patreon, please see - Auto Shop Garage Base Series Part 1.

I thought that this was going to be a simple one to draw but it turned out to be quite a challenge. Populating the space to make it appear lived-in takes a lot of time. I literally just finished finalizing the basement 10 minutes before typing this post for you guys.

I really do hope you have fun with this one. I would love to hear about how you incoporated this map into your campaign and what your players got up to.

Without further ado, here are your variants.

Map Variants

Upper Level

This is the living quarters and also the most secure space on the premises. With the height advantage and near-complete visibility of the auto shop's floor, this can be a good or bad thing. It all depends on whether your players are using this shop as their base or if they're raiding an enemy's hideout.

The only perceptible way of getting to the upper floor is via the fire exit stairs on the ground level.

I've provided two versions of this map: baked-in for those of you who like to print your maps and a .PNG overlay for you VTT users (i.e. Foundry, Roll20 etc). .PNG files are quite large however, so take note of that.

The Basement

This is a space that some of you have requested in the past, thus I decided to add it now to this map pack, it made the most sense to me.

The basement is another location for your players to hangout or defend in a seige scenario.

This basement is modular thus it can be utilised as a basement for many of my other maps. One that comes to mind is the "Convenience Store", which has a back alley and a doorway leading down.

Backroom Captives

This variant of The Basement map changes the backroom medic bay into a captive area with solid steel cages. This is where your players can hold their captives, hostages, cyber-psycho's (or zombies), etc temporarily.

Concealed Door

A large piece of tarp and an old arcade machine are used in creating a makeshift concealed door, to perhaps hide captives from the law or whoever decides to come looking for them.

Door Revealed

This 'revealed' and concealed door variants are provided in dynamic tile formats.

Auto Shop Garage Base - Series Part 1

Dimensions - [16 x 15] squares

Full image size (200 DPI) - 3200 x 3000 px

Grid scale - 1 sq = 5 ft

Hey all. Welcome to November’s map drop!

This time, we have an auto shop garage base. This battle map came about because many of you from the Discord group have been asking for an auto repair garage and also a base for player characters in your cyberpunk settings. So here we have it, a combination of the two.

The premise of this map is that, it can be used for raids, investigation, combat scenarios and also a forward operations base. It is versatile so make of it what you may.

What’s more, this auto shop map is part of a series - albeit a short one. The next release will feature an expansion to this map which includes:

  • An upper level for gear storage and living quarters
  • A separate small basement map that might have a myriad of different use cases (still undecided)

I’ve only planned for it to be a two-part series. Unless I get an overwhelming response to expand this auto shop beyond two parts in the comments below, I shall keep it as so.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the variants included with the Auto Shop Base - Part 1.

Map Variants

Drone Repair Bay

This section of the garage replaces a mundane storage area with tech for robotics and drone repair.

Rayzen Hatchback

I don't know how you guys feel about these vehicle names but I just went with whatever names that popped up in my head at the time. This variant features a sporty cyberpunk-style hatchback car.

Mercedes Excalibur AV

This one was inspired by one of the aerial vehicle designs I saw in Cyberpunk 2077. Hope you like this one. It was my favorite vehicle to draw.

Auto Shop Empty

This variant provides an empty base map for those of you who prefer not to have any vehicles stationed in the garage. Add the vehicle tiles over this base map to populate.

That's all for now folks. Stay tuned for Part 2 of the Auto Shop Series!

Japanese Garden

Battle map dimensions - 13 x 19 = 2600 x 3800 (at 200 dpi)

Scale - 1 sq = 5 ft

Alrighty folks, time for another battle map drop! The last map for October is the Japanese Garden.

The Japanese Garden is important because it fills in the gap between several other battle maps, namely:

Location

If you prefer to go with my conceptual narrative, the Japanese Garden resides within the Koi Hotel's atrium, beyond the tall glass facade. Here's a screenshot as a reminder.

The garden contains a cliche cherry blossom tree right at the center and a small Shinto shrine against the northern wall. These kinds of small shrines can be found all across the city of Tokyo, Japan, hidden behind the maze of side streets. I wanted to portray the same feeling with this map but had to make it larger for playability’s sake.

Map Variants

Without further ado, here are the variants for the Japanese Garden map pack.

Zen Garden

For those who prefer a more open space with less cover or want to stage a scenario with some sort of martial arts master, this would be the variant to use.

Obsidian Ring

This map variant idea was provided by my dear supporters over at Discord and then inspired by Ghost in the SHell: SAC_2045’s storyline. In particular, the character “Takeshi Shimamura”.

The idea is this: the players discover a cult group who worships a powerful netrunner deity (identity unknown). There are inconspicuous altars set up across the city that these zealots “plug in” to be “as one” with the deity. They call themselves "the Obsidian Ring".

Is this a harmless religious cult or is there something more nafarious at play? This cyberpunk cult theme will trickle through future maps, so stay tuned for that!

Shoutouts

I’d like to quickly thank all my Patreon supporters over at the Discord server for helping to come up with map variant ideas on this one. You guys have always had my back. Thank you!

Sewer Canal Slums

Dimeensions - [30 x 40] squares

Scale - 1 sq = 5 ft

Image resolution - 4200 x 5600 px  (@140 DPI)

Hey all!

This is the first map drop for October and wow, it is a week past my usual post schedule! To my surprise, this sewers canal slums battle map took me 3 whole weeks to finish painting.  As the saying goes, "the devil's in the details".

This sewers canal battle map was something I wanted to personally draw for a very long time and this vision had been sitting in my mental library since the very beginning of Frag Maps. I'm proud to finally be able to share this imaginary place in my head with you all.

It all started with this particular doodle on my iPad, which i started in the first week of October. The rough sketch had this really painterly feel which I was digging so I decided to take it to full production. I totally underestimated the amount of details this battle map required to really shine.

Here is the rough sketch...

The premise behind the sewers canal battle map is this: the underprivileged denizens of the city are forced to live underground. The only place that is really out of sight and mind of the law, is the maze of a canal sewer system that lies below the city.

There is a whole different ecosystem here in the canal slums. Weapons, black-market cyberdecks, warez and drugs, and even outlawed religious cults await your players' discovery.

I'm looking to expand on this area in the near future, so the story can unfold a little more. Stay tuned!

The Map Variants

This map pack's variants are a little less extravagant than the usual as I've put in so much work into the base map. But fret not. While these variants may look simple, they will allow you to expand on the scenario narratives.

Junk Barge

This is a medium sized boat that frequently does its rounds along the canals. The barge's operator collects discarded parts and supplies and then sells them to the garage on the north side of the canal.

Rumors have it that the barge also has a side hustle in the people smuggling business (I'll leave it at that, let your imaginations run wild).

River Taxis

Since roads don't exist here, these wooden canoes (also called "Sampans" in some parts of the world) are the main mode of transport within these canals. I've included two different river taxis here in case some of you want to run a chase sequence.

I have included multiple entrance and exit points across this map, but those points can only be accessed on foot. The river taxis create yet another alternative.

Cyberpunk Gas Station

Dimensions - [43 x 58]

Image resolution - 5800 x 4300 (at 100 dpi)

Grid - 1 sq = 5 ft

Hi all!

This month, we have another very large battle map to add to the Frag Maps library. Somehow, I feel like my maps are slowly getting larger over time.

The gas station is a constant in any cyberpunk universe and many of you have requested this for quite a while now but there were so many wonderful battle map ideas in the queue that it took me a while to get around to this particular one.

Watching Edgerunners on Netflix really spurred me on and got me excited to work on this one though!

Layout Design

Originally, the Gas Station was supposed to be situated a desert environment at the intersection of a lonely highway. However, the feedback that I was getting over at the Frag Maps Discord group was that the majority preferred an urban location.

Here are some of my early sketches that depicts the development journey.

Battle Map Pairings

This gas station map is best paired with following maps:

Map Variants

Base Map

The base map reveals the gas pumps and also the shop (and store room) that is by default hidden underneath the canopy.

Canopy

The canopy comes in the form of a .PNG file so that pixel transparency can be utilized. For those who are new to Frag Maps, these files are used in tandem with a VTT (virtual tabletop) software - e.g. Foundry vtt, Roll20, Fantasy Grounds Unity etc.

The idea is to layer the canopy over the base map so that when player characters walk underneath, you can lift the roof to reveal the details beneath.

Baked-in Map

I’ve also included a version of the Gas Station with the canopy baked-in. This is for those of you who prefer to print their battle maps for in-person gaming sessions.

Night Time

The Night variant set comes with its own baked-in, base map and canopy files.

A Brief Life Update

During my previous post, I mentioned that I was in the process of moving interstate. Well, after a very stressful and tiring 2.5 weeks, I am glad to announce that I’m finally settled into my new home in Adelaide, South Australia. This city is a quiet/wonderful place and although I grew up here, it has been decades since I’ve lived here. I’m glad to be back and am sure that the vibes of this city is going to inspire me to take Frag Maps to greater heights!

The Morgue

Battle Map Dimensions - [15 x 12]

Image resolution - 3000 x 2400 (200 DPI)

Grid size - 5 ft

Hey all! Time for another map drop! This time, we have a cyberpunk morgue.

This morgue encounter map is perfect for setting up that murder investigation scene or a host of other scenarios.

I really liked the mood/atmosphere from the Ripperdoc Clinic and so I tried to replicate it here (successfully, I think). You guys should be able to pair this map with the clinic and imagine the morgue and clinic as being part of a larger facility.

My Life Update

To those of you who aren't part of the Discord group and don't yet know, I am currently in the process of relocating from Victoria to South Australia (Adelaide).

Long story short, it has been a tiresome three weeks of packing and unpacking but I'm getting there. The white goods have just arrived today and I was only able to set up my drawing desk this evening. This morgue map was drawn entirely on my iPad Pro.

I am excited to be able to create the next battle map in a brand new work space and environment!

For those who are interested, here is a photo of Adelaide. I grew up here and it's a quieter/smaller city. It is chilled-out, relaxed. The perfect environment for me to focus on map art.

The Morgue Battle Map Variants

Here is a breakdown of the map variants for The Morgue.

Opened Cold Lockers

This variant has two cold lockers opened to simulate either your players investigating the area. Or they could arrive at the scene to find the cold lockers open and empty. Black market body snatchers?

Post Autopsy

This tiled variant includes a dead body covered in a white sheet on one of the autopsy tables.

John Doe

Another tiled variant with one opened cold locker with a mysterious dead body inside it.

The Feast

The players arrive to discover a gruesome scene. A mangled, half devoured corpse lies on one of the autopsy tables. Upon closer inspection, the players discover bloody handprints on the table. What, or who could have done this?

The Nightclub (Viper Club)

Dimensions - [48 x 35]

Image resolution (140 dpi) - 6720 x 4900 px

Welcome to the Viper Club, the largest, most notorious nightlife venue in the city. A place where the affluent crowd come to mingle and be entertained.

The club's notoriety also attracts some interesting folks that come to peddle an array of different services. Ask anyone on the street and they'd tell you that you can buy almost anything you dream of here.

The Viper Club, world's oyster for some, deathtrap to others.

A ‘Lil Background

This map has been a long time coming. Ever since I drew the Back Alley over a year ago and put the Viper Bar on the map (pun intended), I’ve wanted to create a nightclub battle map. For those of you who are new here, the Back Alley map leads to an underground club just like this one.

What held me back was the fact that there are already so many cyberpunk dive bars and nightclub battle maps out there. I decided to hold off on drawing one until I had a concept that was unlike any other. I also wanted to make sure I had the confidence and the time available to undertake this huge task.

And... the time has finally come.

This map took me A LOT of time to create. There are detailed areas all over this map and when you zoom in, you'll start to realize how massive this space really is.

Working on this one between maps, it took me roughly three weeks to finalize.

Notable Features

The nightclub features two levels, multiple entries and exits, three bars, a DJ booth (located on a split level), an exit hall, cloak room, two ticket booths, toilets and multiple VIP lounge areas. It's a lot.

Here are some annotated screenshots to highlight the areas mentioned.

Map Variants

Concert Stage

This variant replaces the small dance stage with a massive concert stage, perfect for those of you who run Cyberpunk Red and who have Rockerboys in the group.

For everyone else, hey who doesn't enjoy a scenario where the PC's rock up to watch their favorite band perform only to have the lead singer get shot up. Fan vengeance!

Ground Level

This variant reveals the ground floor and all its additional areas and a ton more details.

By the way, those two columns at the top (north) part of the wall are actually elevators. They're situated within the exit hall.

Upper Level

This is a .PNG file for use in your favorite VTT (such as Foundry VTT, Roll20, Fantasy Grounds Unity etc). Place this file as a separate layer over the Ground Level for the ultimate in multi-floor combat.

Yakuza Bathhouse

Battle map dimensions - [16 x 13]

Image resolution (200 dpi) - 3200 x 2600

Grid - 1 sq = 5 ft

Hi everyone! Here's the latest map for you all to throw your players into - The Yakuza Bathhouse.

This bathhouse battle map mixes in some of the old Japanese-style fittings (that screams Yakuza) and the modern  in terms of interior design.

The space features a large main area with five bathing pools, a locker room, a toilet, a sauna and two entrance/exits.

This is where the clan unwinds after a long day and where the Yakuza boss can be found soaking up the pore purifying steam.

The Yakuza Bathhouse was intended to be one of the many facilities within the Koi Hotel, but is also usable in standalone format. In addition, this map chains well with the following maps:

Bathhouse Map Variants

The Boss Is Dead

"Your players enter the main bathhouse area and spot a very large, bald man dead, floating in a pool of blood. Just as they realize that the man is actually the Oyabun (Yakuza clan boss), they hear a flurry of multiple footsteps approaching from the stairs.

Will the Oyabun's henchmen wrongly accuse the players of murdering their beloved leader?"

Let me know what you think of this variant. I really enjoyed painting this one.

Raided Lockers

This variant opens up some random lockers within the locker room. The players would enter this space and discover that whatever they were after, is now long gone. Someone managed to strip search the place ahead of the players. What now?

 Death By Sauna

This is another opportunity to set your players up for trouble or a murder mystery. This variant comes in two flavors: a normal dead dude and a dead dude with a cybernetic arm.

Gold tier supporters, you'll find this one in your downloads folder.

Cyberspace

This one is an experiment, so I'm keen to hear if you like this kind of variant in the future. Shoutout to one of my supporters "JackieDan" for coming up with the idea of turning meatspace into cyberspace.

The variant is also great for characters with night vision enhancements. Let me know what you think!

That's all for now folks. Coming up next - The Nightclub! Stay tuned.

Guard Station / Brig - Arcology Series

Dimensions - [18 x15] squares

DPI - 200

Image resolution - 3600 x 3000

Howdy all! It's time for another battle map drop - "The Guard Station/Brig"

This map depicts a barebones military police style guardhouse that processes law offenders within the Arcology. The offenders are interrogated and placed in temporary holding cells before proper law enforcement can come to take them away to trial (if that even exists in your worlds) and/or prison.

The Guard Station/Brig is the final map of my cyberpunk Arcology Series. I hope you all have enjoyed using the maps from this series but I feel that it is time to move on to other key locations.

This map pack contains quite a few bits. Let me cover them quickly.

Battle Map Variants

Cell Doors & Weapons Cabinet - Open

This variant opens up the cell doors and also the weapons cabinet, revealing a couple of assault rifles but one of them's missing.

Torture Chair

This tile variant swaps out the interrogation table for a cybernetics torture chair. The big device at the back of the chair creates a magnetic field that scrambles the victim’s cyberdeck, inducing a crap-ton of psychological pain.

Hell’s Kitchen

This map variant sets the kitchen ablaze. The fire also seals off the back exit, making it trickier for your players to escape via that route. Great if you want them to stand their ground and fight whatever is coming at them from the main corridor by the stairs.

An alternate scenario could be that your players gain entry via the back exit, and create a distraction by setting the kitchen on fire, sending the guards into panic mode while they try to put out the fire. PS: There is a fire extinguisher located against the wall in the central room, next to the personal lockers.

PS: Thank you Lori (from the Discord group) for pushing me to my artistic boundaries on this one. :)

Gang commandeered Brig

The brig has been commandeered by a notorious gang in the Arcology. They have turned the space into their headquarters. Due to the layout, the brig offers them a secure space for gang council meet ups and also to store their drugs, weapons and wares.

The Koi Hotel

Dimensions - [  22 x 14]

Image size (full)  - 200 DPI, 4400 x 2800 px

Patreon supporters get all maps at full resolution. Grid and grid-less versions provided.

The Story

The Koi Hotel was established 350 years ago by the city’s leading Yakuza clan. This exclusive establishment was a large residence, reserved primarily for the the clan, its associates and family members.

The interior decor has gone through multiple facelifts over the years but the interior zen garden was maintained and touted as one of the most beautiful and tranquil locations in the city.

While the Koi Hotel maintains its luxury status, it is nowadays open to the public. The hotel is frequented by corporate companymen (who utilize the premises for business dealings) and also long-stay, very affluent residents.

Welcome to the Koi Hotel people.

Design Notes

This cyberpunk battle map is one of the most colorful pieces I've drawn thus far. It was my way of experimentation and pushing the limits in terms of color harmony and mood. It is a very tricky thing to balance, let me tell you.

I drew massive inspiration from Altered Carbon's Raven Hotel and then sprinkled bits from the Japanese-style hotel in Umbrella Academy's season 3. The rest of the stuff came from within.

Map Chaining & Future Plans

The Koi Hotel chains currently chains together with the following maps: Skybridge and Yakuza HQ. There are two more maps that I plan to put out in the near term that will expand on this theme further - Yakuza Bathhouse and Japanese Gardens. Stay tuned for that.

I have a cool idea for and plan to expand on that zen garden and turn it into its very own battle map. You guys might really like this one if you're into the Yakuza and cyber samurai theme.

Map Variants

There are 3 variants that come in this battle map pack.

V2 - Seating Area

This variant replaces the center solid spiral gold statue (the Yakuza's symbol for universal wealth and harmony) with a double couch seating area.

Samurai Guardians

I really enjoyed drawing these giant guardian statues. For your info, these statues stand about 8 ft tall. The initial design intention was to have a glass showcase of ancient cyber samurai armor types. However, these could also represent spiritual guardians or even better, cybernetic guardians that come to life when the Yakuza's safety is compromised.

Samurai Guardians V2

This is the combination of the V2 map and the Samurai Guardians.

Thanks again everyone and please go vote on the recent poll if you haven't already. The poll will drive the future creation of maps.

Thank You

Cyberpunk Edgerunner's Apartment

Dimensions - [16 x 7] squares

Image size - 3200 x 1400

DPI - 200

Hi guys, I'm proud to present to you my latest battle map creation - "The Cyberpunk Edgerunner's Apartment".

Recently the Cyberpunk 2077 game got an update and the game developers added several new apartment types for players to hang out in. I thought it'd be cool to recreate one of those apartment layouts for you guys.

This map took me quite a while because of all the crazy little details that had to be drawn. The thing about living spaces is, if you don't fill it up with personalized items, the space just doesn't look lived-in.

Without waffling on unnecessarily, let's take a look at the variants, shall we?

Map Variants

Fixer / Weapons Specialist (Base Map)

A room fit for a techie or a weapons expert, equipped with weapon slots in the walls, ammo cans and a floor safe.

Decker / Netrunner (Variant)

Your typical hacker’s workstation filled with neon lights, retina-searing displays, data drives and a mini server complete with its own backup power supply.

Mage / Shaman (Variant)

This specialist room variant is catered to games like Shadowrun and Tokyo: Otherscape, where magic meets cybernetics. I had a lot of fun painting this room because I don’t normally get to draw stuff that resembles the fantasy genre. I hope you like it!

Don’t play Shadowrun? No problemo. Tell your players the room is owned by a crazy occult fanatic who practices ritualistic sacrifices.

Alternate Layout (Her's)

This is the base layout of the living space, with tweaks to suggest that the Edgerunner might be female, or a male who likes plush toys and pastel colored decor. I don't judge.

Mixing this alternate layout in with the specialist rooms will allow for more apartment variants. Hopefully, this will help personalize the space for your players a bit more.

What are map tiles?

Map tiles are smaller sections of the map that contain differences from the base map. Variants are provided in this format (where applicable) so users can overlay the tiles on top of the base map in their favorite virtual tabletop softwares (such as Foundry VTT).

Tiles are effective because it allows you to combine multiple variants into one map, in a modular way.

The Container Port

Dimensions - [32 x 22]

DPI - 200

Image size - 6400 x 4400

Hi everyone!

It is time for another battle map drop - “The Container Port”. I’ve received numerous requests to draw a shipping dock battle map for a long time now, so I'm glad I managed to get this one created for y'all. This container port map isn’t exactly a shipping dock, but I feel it will be a lot more interesting to play on.

The scale of this map is pretty large. Until now, I have been drawing maps on the 1 grid square = 5 ft scale as a standard. But due to the humongous size of these container ships, the map itself had to be super large. Drawing at the usual scale of 5 ft squares would have crippled my computer, thus the scale here is 1 sq = 10 ft.

This makes no difference to those of you who play on virtual tabletop softwares however, as everything was drawn to real-world scale and you can use the grid-less version of the map and place your own sized grids in.

Creation Notes

The Container Port took a lot more time to paint than I had planned for and the process was a little touch and go for a while.

I think this was due to the different types of lights and colors I chose to add to the map. It was tricky to find the right colored lights that would combine together to form a pleasing image.

Then there were the containers of different colors thrown into the mix, which just made the map very distracting to look at. In the end, I found that it looked better if I made most of the containers either white or the typical red-brown colors. Takeaway: never underestimate colorful night-time maps. Lesson learned.

Variants

Cranes Overlay

There are two types of container cranes present on this map (just FYI): gantry (or yard) cranes are the small ones and quay cranes are the gigantic ones. Due to the height and size of quay cranes, much vision gets blocked. So here are optional PNG asset overlays for you to add as an additional layer to the map so player tokens can run underneath them.

Tip: If you’re using Foundry VTT, the battle map would look even cooler if you added a light underneath the crane layer.

Midnight Loading

With this map variant, the cargo doors of the container ship has dropped down and there are unmarked crates sitting off to the side getting ready to be loaded.

This creates many possible encounter scenario possibilities. But the one that stuck in my mind the whole time I was drawing this map was that the crates contain a new form of street drug that just arrived from overseas. The crates are getting ready to be loaded onto an unmarked truck and the players must attempt to interrupt the process and find out who the buyer is.

The Drug Lab

Dimensions: [14 x 8] grid squares

PPI: 200

Image size: 2800 x 1600 pixels

Time for another battle map drop everyone. This time, we have the Drug Lab. This drug lab battle map is a continuation of the Arcology Series that I am working on that like the rest of the maps from the series, draws heavy inspiration from the Judge Dredd movie (2012).

Here are the movie screenshots that inspired this drug laboratory map.

Map Variants

First up, I’d like to thank my Patreon supporters from the Discord group for helping with the following map variant ideas. You guys are totally awesome!

These are just some of the game scenario ideas you can run with these variants.

Finished Product

The players are tasked to stop a new form of futuristic drug from hitting the streets. They’ve tracked the supply routes all the way to the manufacturer - this drug lab. They see by the delivery roller door, a few large film wrapped boxes ready to be shipped.

Punctured Vat Tank

A fire fight breaks out and a bullet punctures one of the large high pressure vats in the corner of the room. Steam (or some toxic gas) starts to hiss out of the tank.

This is one scenario that I can think of that could add plenty of additional pressure and a time sensitive situation for your players to deal with.

Vat Body

Players enter the drug lab in search of a whistle blower scientist who was about to pass on the formula for a deadly futuristic drug. After some investigation, they lift one of the covers of the vats to find a body dissolving in acid inside, whose features are too disfigured to make out. Is this the scientist they were searching for?

The Skybridge

Dimensions - 57 x 39 [grid squares]

Pixel dimensions (full-sized map) - 7980 x 5460 pixels

DPI - 140 pixels per inch grid square

Hey everyone!

Time for the 2nd map for April. This month’s cyberpunk battle map is called “The Skybridge”.

About This Map

The Skybridge is a battle map about two monolithic high-rise buildings connected by a couple of sky bridges that rests high above a sprawling and very active metropolis at night time.

This area of the city is particularly interconnected. Many of the high-rise structures have similar skybridges and monorail tracks to allow foot traffic to flow from one building to the next. Perhaps the ground traffic is way too congested and the air quality is at semi-toxic levels? I’ll leave the narrative to you guys.

A point of interest: you will notice a Japanese-looking temple like structure present on the map that appears to be growing out of one of the towers. This is a grand hotel complex run by the Yakuza. I will be fleshing out maps relating to that in the near future. Stay tuned.

Note: This skybridge is not part of the Arcology Series that I have been working on, but something separate. However, there is nothing preventing you from using this map in conjunction with other Arcology Series maps.

Map Variants

The DMZ

Two warring factions (or gangs) who have secured a tower each to themselves. A temporary truce had been agreed to and the skybridge has been set up as a de-militarized zone. When opposing faction meetings are required, they happen on the bridge where no weapons are allowed.

It will be interesting to see how you guys go with running such a scenario, or something similar.

Crashed AV

A small transport aerial vehicle carrying valuable cargo or a certain VIP that your players will want to get to, has made an emergency crash landing on the skybridge.

A Patreon supporter, SlappinFace” suggested a brutal narrative: a VIP’s AV has crashed and the players have to rescue him/her before the VIP gets mauled by gang members. But they have to fight their way up the towers to get to the sky bridge.

If you are using the skybridge as part of the Arcology setting,  then they've seriously got their work cut out for them.

Art Process

The Skybridge battle map is huge. I think this is the largest image that I have painted to date. All the details that were required to make this city look alive, set me back about 12 full days of work.

Over the next few days, I will be releasing a full time-lapse video that shows me painting this thing from start to finish. If you want to be notified when that video goes live, do follow me on Twitter or Facebook

That's all for now folks. Let me know how you like this map and have fun!

Edit (1/5/22):

Hi everyone. I was just notified by a Patreon supporter that there was a rogue brush stroke in the map's background (persistent in all maps that feature the flying cars). I've gone ahead and fixed it. In addition, I've made some color tweaks that I was unhappy with.  The new version of the files are up and ready to be re-downloaded (denoted by the "1" at the end of the file name).

Please go ahead and do so at your earliest convenience.   Thank you~~~

Cross Corridor - 10 x 15 [grid squares], (1400 x 2100 px)

————————————————

Hey all.

Here is another continuation of the Arcology Series - “Arcology Corridors”!

I had initially planned and drafted only 3 corridor map layouts and presented them to the Frag Maps Discord group. But somehow, I ended up creating 6 medium sized individual maps in a 12 day span instead. I think I secretly enjoy torturing myself.

At the end of the day though, what I’m all about is providing as much value to you, my supporters, as possible.

Now, I know that some of you might not be a fan of the Arcology Series, but these corridor maps can easily be incorporated into any internal building combat scenario.

The next map will deviate away from the Arcology for a bit and take the fight back outdoors with “The Skybridge”. I’ll jump back to Arcology-related maps again next month, peppering them here and there so as to keep everybody happy.

For those of you who are new here, welcome! These corridor maps are made to work in tandem with the other Arcology Series maps. Here are some links:

Also, don’t forget to check the Battle Map Index page for the archive of all my battle maps.

There isn’t much else to say about these corridor maps as they are pretty self-explanatory. I’d love to hear your thoughts though! And I hope you like these.

Some Exciting News: A Brand New Partnership

Hi everyone!

I bring you some exciting news today. Frag Maps is partnering with Son of Oak Game Studio (the creators of City of Mist), for their Tokyo: Otherscape game

In relation to partnerships, Frag Maps has had many, many opportunities in the past but I felt that none of them were the right fit. For the first time, this game is something I really want to get behind and am truly excited about.

Later this year, Frag Maps will be contributing some battle map variants that are specific to  Tokyo: Otherscape, to be included in their books.

The details are yet to be fleshed out but I am personally excited to see some of my future maps get published alongside a highly anticipated TTRPG game system.

Note that this will not affect the map work I am publishing on Patreon. My Patreon map releases will continue as per usual.

 The Kickstarter

Hitting The Sweet Spot

This is what got me excited:

  • Tokyo: Otherscape is set in the world of Cyberpunk. Inspired by Ghost in the Shell, Akira and has some Shadowrun and Bushido vibes. OMG, right?
  • Uses the same game engine as City of Mist and reminiscent of Powered by the Apocalypse games (which is a system I played plenty of back in the past).  If you're unfamiliar with the above, I would urge you to look into it. You might just love it.

Here is a link to the Tokyo: Otherscape Kickstarter page. Check it out.

The Day-One reward on Kickstarter has only about another 16 hours left. You'll Not want to miss out on this one.

April Maps Poll

Hi everyone!

I'd like to thank everyone who has been supporting my work over the past months. I have been blown away by how much Frag Maps has grown since its inception. You all have been invaluable and I am grateful that you're all here to help.

Now, I need your help once again.

I have accrued many great map ideas via the Discord group and am not quite sure which ones to tackle first. Many of the options below are tied to the Arcology series that I have recently kicked off. The potential of this ecosystem has me really excited. But there are other maps outside the Arcology that I also want to create.

Thus, I need  your votes. Let me know.

Apartment (Arcology Series)

Acology Apartments

Base Map Dimensions - [6 x 6] grid squares

Base map pixels - 1200 x 1200 @ 200 PPI

Hi everyone! It’s time again for another map drop.

For the last map of the month, we have a continuation of the Arcology series of battle maps - “Arcology Apartment”. For those who are new to Frag Maps, you’ll find the first of the Arcology maps here

These low-socioeconomic status apartments take on a cookie cutter approach to their structure and layout - there is nothing fancy here, everything is stock standard. I referenced the Dredd 2012 movie for inspiration but added some elements from Cyberpunk 2077.

Adding details was a little tricky.  I had to keep reminding myself to keep the details generic as I was cognisant of the fact that details that are too specific may impact the versatility of this the apartment map.

Let’s go through some of the map details.

1 Bedroom vs. 2 Bedrooms

Differences - The 1 bedroom version does not have a backdoor exit to the refuse area and the doorway that leads to the second bedroom is filled in with a blank wall. For the 1 bdrm apartment, it means that there is no escape except via the front door. A good place to hunker down if the players are in trouble.

Corridor Variants 1 & 2

This apartment map began with the goal of creating only apartment rooms for the Arcology series, but they should also be able to hold their own in other game settings - a plug and play type of map.

Somewhere during the drawing process (inspired by some of your feedbacks), I decided to add a refuse area fire exit as a variant. I then noticed a huge empty area in the map so I ended up drawing in a hallway too.

I decided to make these corridors as variants because for some of you, the corridors may not be a fit for your story or location. In which case, you can always fall back to using the maps without the corridors.

The Refuse Area

The north of the map’s refuse area overlooks one of the many voids within the Arcology complex. Above, below and across from it are more balconies and apartments just like this one.

If your players want to climb out the balcony to a floor above or below, I'd say it would be reachable. There are tons of wires dangling around everywhere that can be used as climbing rope. But one slip and they'd be human pancakes on the ground floor.

The Machine In The Kitchen

What’s that thing you ask? It can be anything you dream of but in my head, it is a synthetic food (or kibble) dispenser. Real food is a luxury in the dark future of cyberpunk.

The Wall Breach

I think this is the second time I’ve drawn a wall breach. The first one was on the Bank Vault map.

I watched quite a wall breaches in action on YouTube (performed by SWAT teams), for drawing reference. I was actually surprised about two things:

  1. How small the holes from shaped charges actually were. How are teams supposed to swarm in through such a small entry point? It'd be a huge movement hazard for sure.
  2. How little scorch marks were left after the explosion. I am 6 years shy of an explosive technician’s degree after all but if you know why, drop it in the comments below!

This Wall Breach map variant comes in the form of a map tile. For those who are new here, you overlay the tile over the base map in your favorite virtual tabletop software (such as Foundry VTT, Fantasy Grounds Unity or Roll 20 etc). This way, you can change the status of the wall by turning the tile on and off.

That’s it for now guys. I will be launching a Patreon poll tomorrow with some more Arcology expansion area ideas for next month’s maps. So keep your eye out for it and make sure to vote!

Arcology Void

Dimensions - [18 x 14] grid squares @ 140 pixels per square

So many of you have been asking for a cyberpunk arcology battle map for quite some time now. I had to hold off on this one before because an environment like this naturally lends itself to map extensions, exploring the different areas of this self-sustaining ecosystem. After a few month of deliberating and research, I decided finally to go for it.

The look and feel of this arcology was heavily inspired by the 2012 film “Dredd”. “Peach Tree” was what they called the building. The film is amazing and I urge those of you who haven’t yet watched it to go do so. The movie covered so many potential areas for expansion that I now have a bucket just overflowing with ideas.

I do have plans to expand this area and the next map will be the apartment interiors. After that, I’ll run a poll on Patreon to see how you guys feel about me creating a few more maps to flesh things out a bit. Areas such as a drug lab, skate park, lower lobby, affluent tiers, corridors, apartment variants etc are all viable. If the votes go sideways, it's all good. We’ll just move on to other maps away from the arcology.

With this map pack, I present to thee with three variants:

Arcology Void

This area houses the middle-class residents. Nothing here is fancy and every apartment mirrors the one adjacent to it. It's all about economy of space. Folks here just do what they can to get by.

The map depicts the central well/gathering area of each sector (or floor level). The area splinters off via narrow corridors that lead to more apartments.

A key highlight of this level is a medical clinic situated against the west wall. A stairwell and elevator at the south-eastern corner allows for access to floors above and below the current one.

Sector 33

Sector 33 is a community focused floor. Still middle-classed but the residents of this arcology tend to gravitate to this level to mingle for some reason. Perhaps, it’s because there’s a massive mini-mart along the west wall? There’s also a pawn shop present on this level for your players to buy/sell/investigate.

Sector 14 - Slums

Now this area gets interesting. Sector 14 sits at a lower echelon and the residents here are suffer from extreme poverty. Half of them are homeless but they manage to squat around the void with makeshift tents assembled with tarp and whatever other junk they find lying around.

The silver lining for these squatters is that they live rent-free and don’t pay for energy. The main reason they squat here is to siphon free energy from the generator.

Many demonstrations were made by the paying residents of this sector, demanding that the squatters be removed. They did not appreciate the squatters defecating outside their doors and treating the corridors as makeshift toilets. The squatters know too well not to **** where they eat and sleep.

Eventually, the building corporate installed security gates to try and alleviate the problem. The gate idea was mostly successful but now and then, residents still find surprises greeting them at their front doors when they get home from work. Hmm.

See you guys on the next map - “Arcology Apartments”.

Parking Garage

Dimensions - [33x28] squares

Map Resolution - 4260 x 3920 px

Hey there my awesome Patreon supporters! For the last battle map of the month, we have a bread and butter kind of map that almost everyone needs - a parking garage (or a multi-storey car park, as it is called outside the US).

Map Chaining

Since most buildings are likely to have parking garages, this map can easily be narratively chained with many of my other maps. The best ones in my opinion are:

Breakdown

I couldn’t get too fancy with a parking garage map. I tried initially to add some fancy details but it started to not look like a garage anymore. So I decided to make the space darker and moodier instead. I also added more variants than I normally would to give you guys a wider scope of playing options.

As you can see from the variants, quite a few different gaming scenarios are possible with this map pack. Let’s talk about them briefly.

Cargo Elevator

This one is pretty straight forward with many possibilities. Thanks to the Frag Maps Discord group for suggesting this one.

The cargo elevator is large enough to fit two cars but in this case, I’ve added large cargo containers instead. The narrative might be that weapon crates are being moved or stowaways may be found hiding in said containers. The containers also provide cover for the occupants trying to exit the elevator in the midst of combat.

The Handover

Inspired by the many movies I’ve watched where two black government-type SUV’s meet up in an underground parking garage to make an asset exchange. A hostage, cash, or valuable data drive(s)? Like Bob Ross once said, “You decide”.

The best part is having your players try to stop the handover by preparing an ambush, only to be ambushed themselves by a different group arriving via the four exit/entry points.

Cargo Theft

This is another “catch them in the act” variant. This one features a mysterious black van, with blacked out glass windows, unloading cardboard boxes filled with "something". Looks innocent enough.

Car Tiles + Base Map

This variant allows you to configure the available cover around the parking lots, by adding/removing car groups. An empty parking garage map is provided so you can layer the tiles on top in your virtual tabletop software (e.g. Foundry VTT, Roll20 etc).

For those of you who are wondering why I didn’t use .PNG files with transparency for the car tiles, here are the reasons:

  1. The cars affect the lighting of everything around them. Cast shadows on walls and floors especially. Also, I find shadows that get overlaid via .PNG files never look quite the way I painted them.
  2. Lining up the tiles to the base map is easier when there is surrounding environment to act as reference markers. This ensures that everything lines up correctly.

As usual, thank you for your support. Without your contributions, none of this would be possible. Let me know how you like this battle map pack and what scenarios you plan to run on it!

Chinatown Alley

Battle map dimensions - [15 x 25] squares, 140 DPI

This month, we’re going dark cyberpunk, with a scene highly inspired by the original Blade Runner movie. Welcome to Chinatown Alley, people.

This Chinatown battle map was a blast to paint. So much so that I really got into it and lost track of time but I feel the extra love given was worth it. This one taking a full 12 days to complete (inclusive of all the variants).

Connections

This battle map chains with two of my previous maps:

  • Street: Combat Zone
  • Yakuza HQ - (the middle building with the “Pachinko” sign - the Yakuza’s operate that parlour and their headquarters lie in the basement)

Map Variants

Canopies

These canopy assets are provided as .PNG files with transparency. There are 3 of them, each covering the top, middle and bottom parts of the map.

The canopies don’t just provide extra visual excitement, they also work as a concealment (soft cover) from eyes up on the rooftops. The steel cross beams also act as narrow walkways for players to cross from one rooftop to another. Be sure to require Athletics checks from players attempting to cross this way as the beams are really narrow.

Food Truck

The food truck comes as a tile you can overlay in your favorite VTT (virtual tabletop software). The main reason I added this food truck as a variant was so you guys have the option of tightening an already narrow alley. With the food truck in play, a bottleneck is formed with only a 1.5 square gap.

Dragon Dance Token

Tell your players that it’s the lunar new year and there’s a dragon dance festival going on. The dragon dance can be a nuisance in many ways:

  • It’s loud, messy, chaotic and this should affect any perception roll attempts.
  • The dragon itself is a massive blocker, use it to obstruct the entire width of the alley or for cover. Perfect for slowing down pursuers
  • The dragon dancers are all dressed identically. Did I hear you say, “hidden assassins”?

Let me know how you like this map guys. And more importantly, have fun with it!
