SPOILERS ahead! Don't read or listen if you're not caught up with episode 44 "To the Bone"!

After we recorded episode 44, Aabria had some questions for Brennan about what exactly was in those spellbooks she found on the bodies of the drowned guildmages. We thought, "Might as well jump back in the studio and have that convo on mic in case it turns out to be interesting for our dear patrons," and reader? We think it is. And so here is a little vignette of what exactly the wizard Sky gets up to while the shapechangers slumber nearby.

The keen mind is king, and you are not in your tower. You are here with us, underground, haunting the foundations of the world, a shadow, here to offer and support the force. In front of you is a cellar door and a brush of blood. Choose quick: Wear the muzzle, or grow some teeth. By a turning of the coin, you are awake and remember you are dreaming still.

The road is a door, and it beckons wide and open. Turns out, you can, in fact, get there from here. If there is a town, a bag, the throat of the ravening beast, the back room of a humble butcher's shop, your end at the bottom of the mighty Lydwyn. Towns are like Empires, they are made of people and promises. Roads are like graves, they are made of dirt and the space you fill. And along the road, like pallbearers: wild, wild things.

War makes strange bedfellows. Glasses clink like funeral bells. We become the fox, at last, or at the very least: we are not the sheep. Every time we step out of that door, all we have are the words of soldiers. And so many doors are open to us. You don't want this, but at last, and at the very least: in the morning, we ride. This could change everything.

Updated Witch Class and Wizard of the Citadel Playtest Survey Reminders!

We hope everyone has been enjoying our new updated Witch Class and Wizard of the Citadel subclass! As a reminder, we'd really love to hear your thoughts and opinions as you play through them so that our team can continually work on improving your experience.

We've extended the deadline to submit feedback to February 17th, 11:59pm PT.

A few reminders from our team as you submit your feedback:

  • Playtest feedback is most useful when it identifies specific issues, pain points, and areas of confusion—or things that are working well. If you think something is bad/not fun/unbalanced/not as good as the previous version, please be specific and tell us why! And finally, please don't backseat design—it's most helpful to know what you think of the existing design, not what you think it should be, so we can best identify the core issues to address.

  • The designers (Hannah, Mazey, Brandes, Dan, and Brennan) are the ones reading the feedback, so please keep things polite and respectful. We know the class isn't perfect yet—that's why we're playtesting!—but we've put a lot of time, blood, sweat, tears, difficult-to-obtain ritual components, hearts, and souls into this design process.

As always, our monthly subscribers get full access to both the Witch Class and the Wizard of the Citadel subclass for just $5 a month! Consider joining us by the fireside if you haven't already.

The spirit touches all things, but boots find sure footing on moss and stone. At long last, the long arm of empire legs it. The machine is repurposed. Love your mommy and listen to the mirror for once. The least you can do is ask. Finally, after such a long time in the wilderness, peace, and like a knife in the stomach, quiet. All hail the returning heroes. We're going home.

Charity Stream This Weekend With Aabria, Brennan, and Taylor!

This Saturday (January 18, 12pm PST/3pm EST) Brennan, Aabria, and Taylor (he's the looming skunk ape in the picture above) will be playing in a charity stream set in the world of Umora to raise money for Doctors Without Borders. Brennan is playing a witch, Aabria is playing a wizard (already at lvl20!), and Taylor is playing a spirit. Fun!

PUBLIC YOUTUBE LINK HERE

DM'd by Jordon Brown (if you've ever seen any WBN or D20 stuff on tiktok, you've def seen Jordon), we'll also be joined by Danielle Radford! Haley Whipjack! and Krystina Arielle! Hope you brought a towel, because your cup is runnething over WITH TALENT.

BUT GET THIS: By donating to those amazing Medicines Sans Frontiers, you can control the level and equipment of all the player characters! Aabria is already at level 20. LEVEL 20. Brennan will be playing a high level witch! And you can bump everyone up even higher right here. We recommend you level Taylor's spirit Barbarian to 20 and give him at least 10 legendary items. It's only fair!

Check out Brennan talking about his witch here, Aabria talking about her artificer here, and Taylor threatening the audience with his character here. Taylor's character by the way ALREADY HAS FAN ART. Innnnncredible. See you Saturday!

Talking Fox Plush Update

Hi all! We are blown away by the Fox selling out in 10 hours after the pre-order site went up. This went completely above and beyond the order volume we had prepared for, and we're so glad so many of you are as excited as we are to see the little guy.

We understand lots of you were not able to snag one and are disappointed, so when this batch sold out we immediately began communications with DFTBA to see what feasible next steps were available to get more.

We're happy to say that we have a second batch of Foxes incoming! Pre-orders are expected to open again in February, with a projected delivery in May.

We will announce the date and time of the pre-order in advance so everyone can plan accordingly, and patrons will once again get first dibs with a discount!

Given how quickly the Fox sold out this first time, we can’t guarantee there will be any left over for the public to purchase, but if there are, we'll open up pre-orders at full price after two weeks of exclusive time for patrons.

We are so humbled by the continued community and enthusiasm for Worlds Beyond Number, and thank you so much again for your patience and understanding!

Talking Fox Plush Patreon-Exclusive Pre-Order!

The moment you've all been waiting for is here: pre-orders for the talking Fox plush are now open early for our Patreon subscribers!

This plush has a battery-powered voice box loaded with 15 of the Fox's most beloved phrases, as well as a magnetic nose so he can carry around the fish he brings with him (or anything else magnetic you want to give him, he's not picky).

We know this is quite a long pre-order time, but there are limited units available, so we wanted to give our Patrons first dibs along with a 10% discount. Add the Fox to your cart and the discount should show up there!

Patreon-exclusive pre-orders with the discount will be open until December 27th, and then the pre-order page will open to the public.

If you're wanting to buy the Fox plush as a holiday gift for someone else, we have a downloadable placeholder card for you to give in the meantime! You can find that in the item description on the DFTBA site.

Winners and runners-up of the WBN Summer Song Remix, don't worry, we've set your Foxes aside!

Follow the link below to get your hands on him! The password to the webpage is "FishSlurry".

The Battle of Abassin is won, but the escape, and the peace are anyone's game. Into the woods, we go, where the tall trees blind us and we cannot see the forest. The mask slips. We make monsters of men, and speak with animals. The chain of command is thus: hunger, water, music. Each family of sad adventurers is sad in its own way.

[download links are at the bottom of the post]

Thanks to everyone who played the first version and submitted feedback! The design team reviewed all the playtest data and revised the class and spells ... and also had fun writing some witchy magic items.
