DARK HORSE OF THE SEASON? SIGN ME UP!

Only just realized it after the reaction, but there's another Oni Hybrid like Tsugaru, we see him in the Opening Song, but his aesthetic is "red" unlike our MC's "blue... so we're getting another telling of the popular "Red & Blue Oni" folktale. I can't wait to see what'll happen next in England!

Opening Song's also way more addicting than I gave it credit for on first viewing... I've had it on repeat for awhile now & it's so damn good...

HELLO ANXIETY, MY OLD FRIEND...

Solid premiere, already got me invested in Yayoi & Keitarou, but damn... that smile's genuinely creepy & makes me so uncomfortable. I'll admit, while the horror elements do make me squeamish (I am a coward after all), the atmosphere's well done and strangely addicting... the staff definitely deserve praise for their work.

On a side note, the Opening Song slaps way too hard... added it to my playlist soon as this reaction ended & I can't ...

SUMMER 2023'S BEST PREMIERE YET! PURE CINEMA!

I'm sold already, don't think I'll need the usual "3~5 episode rule" to know I'll enjoy myself, this left me speechless... the production staff went above & beyond, I can't praise their efforts enough. Seriously, the visual storytelling & symbolism were genuinely incredible, not to mention the use of colors & the animation's fluidity... please, do yourself a favor & watch this anime!

Studio MAPPA did those anime original scenes so well, it was nice to spend time with Utahime & Mei Mei, the "Scooby Doo" vibes from the mansion exploration were downright hilarious. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOEL... 😭 I don't need the 3-episode rule, I'm sold already! Still heartbroken over what happened with Joel (Pedro Pascal) & Sarah (Nico Parker), it made me tear up, the build up, pay off, and respective performances were top notch cinema... Seeing Joel end up in a similar situation & explode from the PTSD, resulting in a vastly different outcome this time, was both incredible & genuinely terrifying.

"WHY, WHY, WHY?!" THE MASTERMIND APPEARS... Okay, wow, that plot twist caught me so off guard, especially when the realization hit that it was Morse Code, that someone had hijacked their radio frequency so quickly. If anything, I was prepared to learn more about the series's main enemy, the mastermind, when we reached South America, the origin of the petrification beam... this gave me goosebumps & a chill down my spine.

BUKKORORI NEEDS TO CHILL! I'll admit, I might have been too harsh... but his words & behavior were genuinely creepy, which made me fairly uncomfortable. Soketto could do WAY BETTER, but since it does seems like they'll end up together (if the fortune telling is any indication), I'll hold out hope she can fix him... From what I can recall, he did look more respectable & competent during the movie, so maybe he does clean up his act with enough time?

AQUA'S PERFORMANCE, HOLY SHIT! I'd say it definitely lived up to the hype/expectations from last time, cause it gave me genuine chills... the use of the footsteps in puddles to build tension was straight up incredible. Only 2 weeks into this series and it's already very likely she'll claim the "Best Girl" title for herself, admittedly... her savagery, beauty, and character design just appeal to me so much! Megumin and Yunyun do make for stiff competition, however.

PRINCESS MONONOKE VIBES! So glad this show keeps me guessing on what'll happen next, cause I fully expected the oasis to be a trap... and was proven quite wrong, fortunately! I dig the mystical/magical nature of these creatures, not sure if their species was ever named in S1 when the Wild King was around, but they felt inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's film, especially with the "Mama" reminding me of the "Forest Spirit," but I could see them relating to Shinto & the "kami" instead.
