Decades before Fukui penned his personal essay on Newtypes, there were a couple of other essays that graced the pages of G20 magazine. Longtime Gundam staffer Tadashi Nagase posits Tomino drawing from a wellspring of history to weave some more complex narratives for Newtype (which bolsters Fukui's otherworldly claims, oddly enough) while Tsukasa Shikano takes a more science-based approach. Wrapping up the next three chapters of Hi-Streamer, so stay tuned.

I don't know if this really adds anything to the Gundam fandom, but it's some more translated information nonetheless. The following is part of a series of articles published in the Summer 2021 issue of Great Mechanics G following the release of the film during the pandemic.

I do have to say I enjoy translating Rosemary's dialogue in this. She's such a fun character. Anywho, onto novels this week! Enjoy, and let me know if anything seems dorked up! Also, I should note, I'm not entirely sure why there seems to be a degradation in image quality despite the transition to larger images in this particular volume. Even without cracking from the Kindle version, the quality seems kinda smudged in parts (it's not me!).

As I wrap up another volume of Crossbone Ghost (later today, I hope!), another quick little dive into some of the quirkier Gundam lore that's out there, this time from Gundam's 20th Anniversary! Originally published in Volume.5 of G20's anniversary tribute magazine in June 1999, we get a look at a day in the life of a teenage boy on a colony. Lots of undertones in here (dare I saw Newtype hints?!). I tried presenting this from a teenager, but I think I may have overdone it a smidge. Nothing t...

In addition to requests for some of the production stuff, here's some more of the hardcore science and mechanical aspects from the Gundam Film Comics! Next time around we'll talk about powered suits, atmospheric reentry, more Minovsky particle stuff, a different look at piloting a mobile suit, and late-model mobile suits! I've included an ebook format, though I apologize in advance if there appear to be a bunch of fonts. Calibre does that when converting, despite me telling it to embed fonts....

Diving back into some more of the background material (ish?), but when Gundam Ace first kicked off, they had a bunch of killer background material for the show (like how the super detailed look of the Zaku monoeye shattering inadvertently kicked off not just the MSV line but background lore!). Written by Ryusuke Hikawa (anime critic and writer), he tends to wax a bit poetic (at least when gushing over Yas in this first issue!) but offers some interesting tidbits as the installments progress. ...

I'm back from my camping trip armed with translations! We'll kick this off with this month's Vanadis Heart! Another frustratingly short chapter... There is no Moon Gundam this month despite the previous issue saying there would be. Vol.13 yielded nothing new, but I'll get on the compilation volume for everyone.

Going to steamroll this one out to get it done (retranslating is done, it's just the damn Photoshop work that's taking forever). Hopefully folks enjoy this version a bit more than the word salad version that's currently out there (and just flat out wrong in a lot of places). Definitely shouldn't have given up on this. It's fun when you sit and think about the dialogue.

And with this, the story is complete. Yup, it ends on a total cliffhanger. The next update to this will be mecha profiles and an interview from the original compilation volume (not present in the newer version, sadly). Also, there was some additional text that was present in the initial serialization in B-CLUB that was omitted from the compilations.
Granada, a former Zeon lunar base and the site where the One Year War peace treaty was signed. The Federation, eyeing its stat...

Sorry, formatting this all over again took me some time. That and I was trying to figure out how to render some of the names in English for everyone since G Gundam is a nightmare with stuff like that sometimes (that's why I never tried with IBO names either). So, a little explanation:
初代 - I went with "Founder" for this one, though its meaning could be "First Master." Since he's from Neo America, Founder
創始 - While this could also be rendered as "Founder," other possibi...

Doubling back to finish up some more projects that went untouched for quite a while, here is the complete version of the One of Seventy Two booklet that was released to celebrate the DOME-G showing of the mini film, part of which we saw in Gundam NT.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
This is a 3DCG video work that was screened starting August 3, 2013, in the dome-shaped video facility DOME-G within Gundam Front Tokyo. This visual feast coincided with the release of an exclusive ...

Our next batch of three chapters is Gaia Gear! Sorry, I don't have the issue of Newtype with the first chapter of this volume, so chapters two and three will have to do for now. Joys of things being stolen from my car! I'm slowly working on trying to get past chapters scanned in, but for whatever reason some are just not cooperating with my scanner (I'm going to try OfficeDepot to see if that helps in the future). I've also attached an updated version of Vol.2 since there were some really wei...

Okay, kicking off the final volume of the series with a trio of chapters for everyone! Mainly because this is the anniversary month (more is better!) and because I really want to wrap this up quickly. I should have this done by September since it's pretty much the movie from this point forward (though not without nuggets of lore!). At any rate, chime in below with any thoughts on what you'd like to see tackled next once this is done so I can start a voting process and whatnot!

From the back pages of the Gundam UC Testimonial Collection: What Was Inherited and What Will Be Entrusted book (and reprinted in the Gundam Universal Century Memorial pamphlet) comes the lengthy discourse on Newtype by the guy everyone loves to hate: Harutoshi Fukui.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Using Gundam UC as a focal point, this book primarily discusses the Universal Century timeline of Gundam, but also extends its analysis to non-UC Gundam series and real-world media dev...

I'm sidestepping just a bit to work on a commission piece for someone for July!
This is a "what if" take on the main Zeta Gundam story. After the One Year War, Char Aznable, a Zeon captain, finds himself working for the Titans against his will. They're holding his sister Artesia hostage, leaving him no choice. His job? Hunting down what's left of Zeon. In response, the remnants of Zeon band together to form the AEUG, an anti-Earth Federation ...

It's been entirely too long wrapping up this project (2018?!), so I opted to just retranslate everything I did way back when. Much better version, to be honest. There's still a couple of the mecha pages that need redoing, but here's the complete story and character dump for everyone! Text-only version is included for easier reading since I couldn't really reconfigure the layout on these.

While I didn't tackle Steel 7 (though that does need a better translation), this tongue-in-cheek retelling of the events of Steel 7 was just too good not to do. I had a little fun with this one. Rosemary embellished a smidge with her version of events, so I hopefully I was able to convey that with this translation.

Following hot on the heels of the F90FF manga series is a new serialization in Gundam Ace called Gundam F90 Cluster! There's a lot to unpack in this prologue, so I'll do a quick breakdown of things. There are a lot of references to events happening in various other manga. Those include: Silhouette Formula 91, Gundam F90, Climax UC, The Ghost of Formula 91, and the weird one-shot Formula Wars 0122. I have translated all of these, save for Climax UC (which is where Nana and Shun Tachibana are f...

Now that the major Sentinel retranslation project has wrapped up, it's time to move onto the next somewhat "gritty" militaristic installment in the Gundam verse. When Bonds of the Battlefield came out, there was a variety show on TV Tokyo that showcased comedian Toshiyuki Itakura duking it out with fellow comedians/tv personalities as part of his "07th Itakura Team." The first season debuted in October 2011 and would go on for quite a few seasons. Due to the popularity of the program, he opte...

I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of you who have supported me in retranslating the very first project my (then) group tackled way back in 2003. I'll be honest, the novel wasn't done justice back then. But, given the times, we didn't put a lot of effort into proper research or finding better source material.
For those that are unaware, a translation of Sentinel was initially started by CWMODELS sometime in 2000 on the old rec.arts.anime.models. I don’t think they did anythin...
