Year of the Snake

Chinese New Year is coming up soon! To celebrate the year of the snake, I wanted to combine the snake with my other favorite scaled animal, the goldfish! Growing up as little kid in China, I was always fascinated by the goldfish and koi ponds that are scattered in every park and apartment complex. I would stare at them for hours, mesmerized by their shiny scales and graceful movements. Hopefully I was able to capture that in this painting :D

I ended up removing the foamy wave frills from her dress, the clear sheen between just the water and the sand has an iridescence to it that I liked more.

Biblically Accurate Axolotl

Be not afraid!

So almost a week ago, I sprained my ankle and couldn't walk for 3 days. I'm used to hiking at least an hour a day with my huskies so not being able to walk at all was driving me crazy. And in my jittery sedimentary state, I kept getting visions of this blursed being: a biblically accurate axolotl. There was nothing I could do but draw it.

I'm all better now and able to walk again, now back to making less cursed art (maybe)

Terrarium Dress

I've been having mushrooms on my mind for the past weeks! So much so that I designed some mushroom lanterns! And then I still couldn't stop thinking about mushrooms so now I've painted a terrarium dress with moss and mushrooms too lol

Like my koi lanterns, these mushrooms are made completely out of interlocking paper without any glue or tape :D

It was raining that day, and at first I was disappointed by the weather because we couldn't go hiking in the rain, but the low hanging rain clouds were so beautiful that I became glad for the rain.

Sky Whale v2

Sky Whale

Sorry for the long absence!

I finally got my new laser cutter and have fallen down a paper lantern rabbit hole lol. My current goal is to finish designing the whale lantern and star projector that's been a work in progress for years now. So to get my creative juices going again, I've painted this sky whale with a belly full of stars~

Autumn Cuddle

The leaves are changing and the days are getting chillier (except it somehow became 90f today, but it was chilly when I started painting this lol). The autumn vibes make me want to cuddle up with my huskies, so I drew San and her wolf siblings based on these photos of my babies.

When I was in Italy, I saw the cutest little ice cream truck (or vespa?) I knew then and there that I had to draw it with Kiki delivering ice cream (made of fish) to the kitty cats~

House of Floof

My huskies were laying symmetrically around their donut bed so of course I had to turn that into my new family crest.

I adopted Luna and Nova from the shelters 5 years ago and they've been the light of my life ever since. I love them more than anything and I've definitely become a crazy dog lady. There's already a husky sticker on my car, and now this crest will be added too hahahaha

Drowned Tower

Inspired by the drowned church tower I saw in Italy. The village of Curon was flooded to create a hydroelectric plant in the 1950's.

Jiji's Family

I'm finally back from visiting the in-laws in Sweden! There were so many whimsical and unique buildings in Stockholm, I must have taken hundreds of photos. One in particular is of this historic little house at Terrassen 16, which used to be much longer but now only 1/5 of it remains, like a leftover slice of bread.
