Naked & Bald for Chri... never mind.

You'd think I'd learn by now, to not stop working on an image until it's finished.  The poses for this one gave me a bit of trouble, so I've been at it off & on throughout the day.  The downside to that is that by the time I'd gotten this far, my tablet's battery was too low to continue.

Dreaming of an Inappropriate Christmas

This weekend I'm clearing my head, but at least some image ideas are coming into focus! First up - a concept for Daisy's Christmas getup, because who doesn't like a bit of underboob over the holidays?

After that, I've some thumbnails that meet halfway between pinups & comics, since too many of my other ideas have been comics that I definitely won't have time for...

The next few days will probably be the best time to draw these image, since I'll be flying up north next Saturday...

Final Stretch?

One of the last major script changes on my to-do list, was adding an length override to the limbs.  The limbs could already stretch, but what if I wanted to change their default length? Getting it to work only required a few extra lines of code, but solving it took most of the day and wiped me out.

As close as I am to the finish line on this, I think it's time I took a break, and try to get some drawing done...  Just as long as whatever I come up with doesn't stop me from fini...

Two more down!

Today I've crossed two more big items off of my to-do list - parent-spaces for the hands and feet, and a moveable pivot for each breast.

What the parent-spaces do, is they allow one object to be attached to another.  Pretty standard for a character rig, but something that my script has been missing until today. Before, the hands & feet would move with the body control.

The moveable pivots for the breasts is something that hopefully will make them easier to animate. Withou...

Working down the list

My to-do list is getting shorter and shorter, and tomorrow it could get shorter still. Her brows, ears, and hair need controls, but those are a simple matter of running one of my scripts, and setting the shapes.  Once those are done, we start to get into things that either fairly difficult, or not terribly complicated but also not mandatory.

Predefined mouth poses are one of those features that might not be needed, but could be a time-saver. It will be nice to not have to move all ...

December Suggestions

One downside to working on Daisy's rig - tech work makes it more difficult for me to come up with image ideas. Or the ideas that I do get are for animations I could attempt once the rig is ready.

So, what would you like to see this month?

Monique in something warm yet revealing?

Violet geeking out over the latest video game thing?

Daisy getting pelted with snowballs by children who think she's a fat kid??

Two steps forward...

File this one under "significant update that doesn't look like much" - yesterday I wrote a rough script to assemble Daisy's mouth rig. In terms of raw functionality, it doesn't do much more than what I'd already built by hand, but it is cleaner.

Today I wanted to finish the mouth rig off, by adding corner raiser controls (the circles on each side). They control the amount of influence the jaw has over the corners of the mouth, and could also drive pre-defined expressions.  ALL of t...

Inching forward

With Daisy's face weighting and skin map more or less done, I'm now in the phase where my to-do list is a lot of fairly small things. None of those things can be skipped, but most of them aren't very exciting, either.  On the plus side, they can be so small that I can knock out several of them in a day.

One thing that's more experiment than progress, is the shading. I've been considering using Blender for rendering, and playing with it for 5 minutes this morning convinced me that i...

Adventures in texturing

This weekend I'm working on Daisy's textures.  Initially I thought I was only going to do some groundwork, but then I ran into problems, and once I solved those I figured I might as well keep going. Now with just a few more layers, her skin could be done!

Face time!

...I really thought that rigging and weighting Daisy's face would be a bit harder than it ended up being. I was so worried that it would all fall apart at any moment, that it took me 3 days to do roughly 2 hours of work. And everything just worked, with no problems.

Since this was the big thing that I thought would take the most time, where do I go from here? Now that I've figured out how her lip rig will work, I can write a script make it easier to set up on future characters. Her hair...

Payback

With this, Halloween is FINALLY over for me!  I have one or two more ideas I could draw by the end, but for now I really need to change things up, and focus on Mary's 3D rig. It's something that's been put off for too long, which has been eating away at me more and more lately...

On paper, Daisy's rig doesn't need much - Her face is probably the most challenging part, followed by some additions to her breast rig, and a rig for her hair. There are other, smaller updates, plus stress...

Uh oh...

The next comic page and pinups are nearly finished - all that's left is mainly just shading. They're just coming together slowly, because I was hoping to be working on Daisy's rig by now, and can't stay focused...

What she said

Bad - a comic page taking too long to make.

Better - re-purposing a pose for a bonus pinup!

Paw pads - dad-approved!

Page 3 needs at least 2 more panels, but on the bright side this was the most difficult one.

November Plans

November's always a weird month...  it has none of October's variety, or December's charm. The best we get are pilgrims, turkey, and browning leaves.

A little over a week ago, I was feeling burned out by everything I was trying to accomplish before Halloween, and decided that for November, I'd change gears - I'd take a break from drawing, and focus on getting Daisy's 3D rig finished.  Her face is the biggest thing that's in need or rigging, so if I can figure that out, finishi...

Tail Trouble

One down!

Things are getting down to the wire this month - The next comic page is inked & colored, and just needs backgrounds & shading, while the one pinup of Mary & Daisy is inked & waiting for color. Two days should be enough time to do both.  The third (final?) comic page and the other pinup or two I'd planned will have to wait.

It took too long, and I'm not entirely happy with some of the panels, but page 2 is at least assembled and ready for ink & color!

Progress on the next comic page has been slower that I would have liked...  today was the first time in four days that the sun was out.
