Before beginning the upcoming chapter, I spent the day creating the setting and designing a new character, Sooki! She's Gio's sweet heart, and after all the ass kicking he's been getting, he could use some lovin'.
I've been envisioning the bar setting and Sooki for months now, so there wasn't any fooling around when it came to getting the designs just right. I'd say I spent around 8 hours researching and designing today. Can't wait to get started on Chapter 5!
Here's one I got asked to do often.
The method I used to get better at understanding folds was by posing in front of a mirror with several different types of shirts and pants, and draw myself in 2-5 minutes. I'd be quick and rough, only trying to keep in mind where the fabric was being pulled from, and how the fabric hung and folded.
Things to keep in mind as you draw clothing
I don't know if you'd realise, but I tried to do something different with this page. I realised that I usually have a fear of using too much blacks. I tell myself that it won't look good or "manga-y" enough if I put in such rich blacks. That's a problem I face. Like if I start to crosshatch all the time, I start telling myself that I'm that "cross-hatch" guy and I hold myself back from doing new things. Even on the smallest panels, I tell myself that people would be put off by the lack of hat...

Seeing how many gun sounds I can imitate through letters. I also really like the aesthetics of Japanese onomatopoeias, so with this page, I was trying my best simplify English letters. I'll get more practice with later pages.

A cheeky moment between some gangsters in a car. Chapter 4 is getting close to being finished. Then I got chapters 5,6,7, and maybe 8 to do and then I get to share Volume 2 with y'all. My Volume 1 shipments just arrived in the US from South Korea. They're gonna make a long trek from LA to the east end, and they should arrive to the warehouse around March 6-8. Hands are tricky, but actually fairly easy and incredibly simple to get good at. The reason being that you have them for reference at all times! Remember, the only way to truly understand the form and anatomy is to draw it over and over. If you find anything confusing, please let me know. I'm sure there must be some things I've written that might confuse you, and I'm willing to answer any questions you might have!

The King Meals are incredibly rare fruits found across the various terrains of Nowhere. Each fruit has a connection to a higher power—a celestial power. The fruits act similar to psilocybin when consumed; opening chemical rifts in the brain and enabling the consumer to harness powers over certain elements, manipulate matter, or body mechanisms. Only one King Meal power can be gained. Eating a second King Meal would give offer no such effect.

Backgrounds are that aspect of art that many artists dread. I know I did. It was mainly due to me having no idea how to fill up space in a believable way. My cityscapes were so boring, and I hated looking at them. Then when I did use reference, I struggled to find interesting pictures. I'd look for hours and hardly find anything useable. The best thing to do was to just go out and snap photos of places I thought were cool... but who's got the time to do that. Photographers, sure. But not me. ...

Want to use screentones but hate the idea of having to pay 100's of dollars for some, and then spend gruelling hours learning how to use them without ripping your paper with the cutting knife? Here are the brushes I use for my comics. You all have been asking, so here they are. They only work for procreate on the iPad. Volume 1 was done entirely using the Comic HB brush. Chapter 3 was completed using the Ink Bleed Hard brush, while the newest chapters will be done using Ink Bleed Soft brush. (the above image is done using the Hard Ink Bleed brush.)
