Marinka the Amazon, otherwise know as Melanie Hunter, was a burlesque legend. She, unfortunately, passed away in February of this year. The burlesque community was beside itself. Each passing of a Burlesque Queen is emotionally taxing on the entire community because the grief is palpable. Marinka stood for so much good.

I've seen this photo before. It's super cool. This is a colorized version of the photo, taken at Adams and Wabash in Chicago (1907). It's so crazy to see how much HASN'T changed since this photo was taken. I look at this and it looks so distinctly Chicago to me. This intersection is about 1.8 miles away from where the Everleigh Club was while it was open. If you don't know about the Everleigh Club or the sisters who owned it, you should! They really set the precedent for Madames and brothels....

We are deep in Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15 - Oct. 15).
