Patreon Update 9-9-24
Added 2024-09-09 14:14:59 +0000 UTCHello everyone, I am back with Returners Defiance 2. Also, the audiobook for Returners Defiance 1 is released today.
Patreon Chapters will restart tomorrow for Dungeon Diving 203. I haven't written the first one yet, but we'll get it done today.
Thanks for Patreon's help in pointing out a few small details. I think I caught everything can got them fixed. I cut everything a little tight with this release, probably a poor idea with DragonCon here at the end.
What else is going on? Next month, I won't be releasing an ebook, but I do have an audiobook coming out. It will be the last audiobook from Rozelyn and Louis for Dungeon Diving 101. After this, the next book in the Dungeon Diving series will be recorded by Jessica Threet and Christopher Boucher. At the same time, I will switch over everything that's currently on Audible to also be by Threet and Boucher. You won't have to repurchase anything, you'll just have to re-download. The old versions of Rozelyn and Louis, I probably won't be able to sell them to you contractually, so I apologize to those who love that audio.
We've had this discussion a few times. Rozelyn and Louis were generating a large number of complaints, and I had to delete several conversations from my Facebook group. When I put it up to a vote, the result was crystal clear. The request was for me to move away from Rozelyn and Louis and to re-record 'Dungeon Diving 101'.
I'm continuing my writing rotation, which means 'Dungeon Diving 203' will be the next book that I write.
The Kickstarter content is now complete, which means we have to do printing, preparation, some proofing, and then we can actually do the print run. Our current estimate is to get them in your hands by early January. We aim to have them shipped before the end of the year. It's a really long process. Even the big five publishing houses are printing in China because that's where all the presses are now. So, shipping for everything takes a long time.
The webcomic is coming along. We have enough chapters done to release, and our pilot is complete. We experimented with some colorists last month. Currently, the colorists are not starting. We had selected one, thinking I was going to prepare for a launch in September or October, and had started them, only to discover that my launch date is now pushed back to 2025. They were kind of a 'good enough' level but I want to try and get better. I can't stop producing my comic because then I would have to let go of the team that's currently working on it, and it's really hard to disband a team and then put them back together.
So, the comic continues to be produced while I am on hold for publication.
Given the repeated hold for publication, I am beginning to explore other avenues for publication. I hope to figure that out by the end of this year. But things are changing. I have it, I just legally can't publish it right now, which is quite frustrating. My current contract has a negotiation period in Dec, which will be interesting.
Anyway, enough of that. I'm really excited to get back to 'Dungeon Diving 203'. We're going to rejoin Ken and his raid adventure. I had really struggled with what to do for the raid, how to make it fun and exciting, and then I realized I'm just going to throw in a big twist. I'm going to really open up the dungeon and the greater connection of worlds, and see where it goes.
For those of you who don't know, I am a pantser, meaning I make up most of this as I go, while trying to follow the rules that I set on the previous things I made up. So, I'm excited to see what we do here with 'Dungeon 203'.
A little note about DragonCon: it was absolutely fantastic. I loved all the people who referred to me as their guilty pleasure, and the spouses who stepped in for their husbands, informing me that ‘He reads all of your books. He's just too shy to admit it.’ So, thank you, everyone, for being readers. It's okay if you're a little shy about it.
I will be back at DragonCon next year. I will try to get more involved. We will see what I can swing. This way, I can get out in front of you guys, and you can quietly sit in the crowd and enjoy me talking about whatever they want me to discuss. This was very interesting this year. I would say my favorite panel this year was when I had to role-play Ard in a fantasy dating game, which was wild. Ard made a couple of mistakes, and in the end, he was drowned by a mermaid, chopped apart by a viking shield maiden and eaten by a troll. So, yeah, that seems very Ard, especially without Emlyn there to keep him out of trouble.
Thank you Patreons for coming on this journey with me!

Well in this case... I am not getting rid of the original DD audio books. But I do appreciate that the new narrators are at least trying to make the characters sound like themselves. Dez and Penny are the most notable.

2025-10-20 22:18:54 +0000 UTCWell the new audiobooks are subpar at best compared to the originals. Characters dont match their descriptions in the text, and all humor brought to the story by the excellent narrations of L/R are gone and its blah. very disappointing. What is the point of a new series if we continue to use the same narrators because now its just Dragon's Justice goes Dungeon Diving. Next it will be Dragons Justice goes to Space or whatever.

2025-03-19 16:36:18 +0000 UTCI second this!

2024-09-24 21:33:33 +0000 UTCSounds like when 203 hits Audible, from what he said above.

2024-09-10 18:04:23 +0000 UTCI thought the guy that voiced Ken was ok as Ken... but I didn't like any of the other characters he tried to do. I'm excited to hear Threet do the ladies. I've actually been getting other series she voices just because of her. She can elevate mid writing and make it interesting. And of course, when she has great writing it's fantastic.

2024-09-10 18:00:52 +0000 UTCIt always takes a few days after the audiobook's release for that discount to apply.

2024-09-10 10:42:19 +0000 UTCIt's going to be weird hearing a different Des, as found that accent choice fantastic. But if you find it's the best for your work to continue, it is what it is

2024-09-10 09:22:32 +0000 UTCI personally really didn’t mind Lewis and Rozelyn, and I do not like saying bad things about people doing jobs I know little to nothing about, but I do think Chris Boucher and Jack Douglas are better, with Jessica Threet being the best female voice actor on an audiobook I’ve ever heard. It sucks you have to get rid of their versions of the DD audiobooks, re-recording has to be a huge pain for you, but it’ll be interesting to hear the characters from different actors’ interpretation.

2024-09-10 08:23:43 +0000 UTCI could see that happening with Bran actually with some of the recent chapters, without going into spoilers for anyone who hasn’t read them yet.😁

2024-09-10 08:15:13 +0000 UTCLewis and Roslyn were standout narrators but then they suddenly got worse and worse. Boucher and Threet are incredible and having them re-record DD makes me want to listen to the stories again.

2024-09-10 05:12:42 +0000 UTCI am a big fan of Boucher and Threet. They are awesome. I’m excited to re listen to all of dungeon diving again, again.

2024-09-10 01:22:16 +0000 UTCWeird pricing question/concern, mostly for the sake of others. Commonly, if one has the Kindle book, then the audiobook gets a significant price cut - usually in the ballpark of $8 or so. I was not seeing that with Returner's Defiance, despite resetting both Kindle and Audible apps, and triple checking that the book is downloaded. Not sure if it's an error or intentional, and I was impatient so I went ahead and bought it with an Audible credit, but I know those sorts of discounts are the only thing that allows me to regularly support my questionably-healthy audiobook habit. So, for those who have yet to purchase, and in the event it has some interaction with whispersync, is that the intended interaction?

2024-09-09 21:55:57 +0000 UTCI keep waiting for the dungeon to manifest a human form to try and get closer to ken.

2024-09-09 16:12:25 +0000 UTCNo wasn’t bad I just re listened to that series and was curious. I don’t think the other recordings were bad. Although the dungeon diving does have the best audio books in my opinion
Mathew
2024-09-09 15:39:49 +0000 UTCdoes this mean SS is getting redone? I really liked that series but I don't really like the mc's voice
Jeremy C
2024-09-09 15:37:44 +0000 UTCMages wasn't done by Lewis and rozelyn. Although the audio is old I don't feel like it was bad

2024-09-09 15:22:30 +0000 UTCDD was actually one of Lewis and Roslyn's better entries but yeah Ken does need a different voice. I'll miss grandpa tho lol

2024-09-09 15:21:39 +0000 UTCYes. I am a big fan of world building so I want to focus most of my early work on building the world and magic system. Then I have major plot points and then it's time to wing it. I know my destination but my route is up in the air.

2024-09-09 15:14:21 +0000 UTCIn my opinion i thank you for replacing lewis and Roslyn😅 i only listen to Audio from them when i really liked the book, im sure they did a great work but i just cant stand their voices. 2024-09-09 14:50:13 +0000 UTCSo is a mages cultivation going to be redone for audio?
Mathew
2024-09-09 14:47:19 +0000 UTCLooking forward to reading the next DD series. I never had the problem with current VO
Jared
2024-09-09 14:36:07 +0000 UTCI like Chris and Jessica reading in duet, but it's unfortunate to hear that people didn't care for Lewis and Rosyln. I like their narration just as well. I feel they did a great job with First Immortal and several other series I've listened to. I hope you'll still keep them in consideration for future books. I don't think anybody will ever be able to voice a better grandpa nagato.
Jon Burden
2024-09-09 14:30:33 +0000 UTCWe're there any video uploads anywhere from Dragoncon?
Sean
2024-09-09 14:29:00 +0000 UTCIs there any major differences between the patreon version and the Kindle version of Returner's Defiance 2?

2024-09-09 14:25:26 +0000 UTCI have a great friend who is a newish author who is plotter. He told me the difference as I am trying to write a book now and I think I'm going to go for a hybrid approach. I just thought it was humourous that I just had this conversation recently and then you mention you're a pantser. Oh by the way. Love your work. I think I've read everything you've written.
