Someone asked for more info about my filming setup for tutorials, so I took some quick snapshots during the filming of my last tutorial and added some notes! I started filming and making video content about a year ago, in preparation for my patreon launch. It’s been quite an adventure! I was honestly so scared to start making videos, but through a long process of trial and error I got better at it. It’s really worth it, because it allows me to explain things to you guys in a more natural ...

More interior practice! I wanted to capture an empty room. There’s something about a totally white and empty space that fascinates me, and makes me feel soothed and melancholic at the same time.

Here it is: this month’s tutorial on painting and rendering in Procreate, with new and improved audio quality, and as always, with closed captions! You can watch it in 4K quality if you want - just click the gear button to adjust the resolution. This tutorial picks up where I left off with the previous Procreate tutorial, which you can find here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/tutorial-video-42911573

Hey patrons! Last summer I did a live demo for Syn Studio, and they just uploaded it to youtube for anyone to watch. It runs you through my general workflow and touches on a lot of the topics that I've covered in the tutorials. I figured you guys might enjoy seeing me do a digital sketch from start to finish!
Also: my procreate rendering tutorial is done, just waiting for the captions to come in :) Will be posting it as soon as that's done!

Another interior practice speedpaint! Loved painting this one. I have a fascination with retro bathroom designs. There's something weird but beautiful about them!

This month I’m going to try and speedpaint some interior scenes! I usually avoid painting these because I struggle so much with them, but I'm gonna try to pick up some new skills with these speedpaints. Trying to find that balance between believability and imaginative elements to make it feel super cosy and like it could be an animation scene. This one is based on the interior of a tiny house that me and Arjen visited in October!
Also: just finished filming this month's tutorial on pa...

Winter is coming and the days are colder and shorter! I'm starting to stay in more and preparing myself for a cosy winter of tea, blankets, and digital painting. Here’s a quick review of how this month went for me:
TUTORIAL AUDIO
As I mentioned on my tutorial post, this month I decided to invest in some new audio tech to improve the quality of future tutorials. In order to remove the bass disruptions from bumping the table and get clearer audio of my voice...

Here’s a digital painting that I’m currently working on! I’m very close to getting it done, but these last details are proving to be the most time consuming so it might be a while before I can finally post the finished piece. It’s inspired by old monochrome photographs that have a dream-like vibe because they feel like a memory. I also included some of the steps in creating it so far. I’m really enjoying painting this one, it puts me in a melancholy mood. Thanks for your support in ...

Here’s the process video for the first tiny house I painted earlier this month! It’s in real time, and you can speed it up or slow it down using the gear button. This was my reference that I based the drawing on:

When I was putting it together, I noticed that the process was so similar to my environment speedpai...

Remember the snake piece that I uploaded two months ago? Something I was really proud of was the method I came up with for creating the snake skin texture. I wanted to create a little step-by-step that explains how I did it. It’s very specific to snake skin, but could be applied to anything else with a patterned texture. I hope it shows you guys how important it is for me to observe, simplify, and be creati...

I was going through all of my process recordings and saw a few that I still wanted to share with you guys! Here is the process video for the fashion studies that I did back in September. Here’s the final result:

Got back to doodling some face studies and trying some saturated, expressive colors. I really liked creating these, maybe I’ll be making a more detailed painting with colors like this. Hope you like ‘em!

Hey lovely patrons! Here it is: my tutorial on environments. In it, I run you though my process for making environment speedpaints, where it’s not so much about accuracy but much more about capturing the feeling and vibe of the original reference photo.
The main technique that I use is the lasso tool for painting. If you want to know more about this technique, you can find a step-by-step here: http...

The third and final tiny house painting! I wanted to make one with a warm sunset vibe to finish the series. Drawing buildings and perspective is something I struggle with a lot and find super intimidating, and making these tiny house drawings are helping me kind of dip my toes into that kind of subject matter. I really want to get better at drawing buildings, houses and maybe even cityscapes from my imagination in the future!
By the way, the tutorial is done and I’m just waiting on th...

Another tiny house! I'm finding this very therapeutic for satisfying my desire to travel, and also good to practice drawing settings / buildings in a manageable way. So here's my second tiny house, inspired by a real one but then with details of my own!
By the way, right now I'm editing this month's tutorial which will be on environments! I didn't want to do two procreate tutorials in a row. I think you guys will like it ~ I'll be posting it early next week when it's done!

Back to making digital art! I’ve been thinking about tiny houses a lot lately, since this is one of the only covid-proof getaways that I’ve been able to go on this year. I just love the idea of having everything you need in one tiny spot, and being out in nature. So here’s a cosy tiny house sketch that I made from reference, with my own details added!

Wow, sorry for spaming you guys with posts today! It took a bit longer than expected for me to wrap up editing some of the brushtober videos, but I wanted to get them up before the end of the month. Here's the process video for the gouache painting I posted earlier today! Again, it's sped up to twice the original speed. With gouache, I found I could do a watercolor-style 'underpainting' where I figure out the lighting and values of the painting before detailing it further. Going from thin, watered-down texture to thicker texture worked well! Painting light on dark is also an option but it does...

Here's the process video for the acrylic portrait I painted last week! Here's the final piece:

I feel like I finally got the hang of acrylics with this one. The main thing that worked was blocking in the colors with a big chunky brush first, and detailing at the very end! I also worked larger since acrylics are not great for tiny details, but better for large brushstrokes. It's sped up 2x. Hop...

It's the final week of brushtober and so I've been painting in gouache! This is definitely my medium. It can be watered down but also be more opaque and so it has the best of all worlds in my opinion! I think this paint allows me to use the same techniques that I use in my digital art, so I'm most comfortable with it. I'll be making one more gouache painting (I'll film my process for it as well) and then wrapping up brushtober. It's been quite an adventure! Wish me luck in making one last pai...

I still had this work-in-progress lying around, so I finally sat down and finished it! Feels like the right time, with the weather getting darker and colder here in the Netherlands. For me the winter is always a tough time and sometimes I wish I could just sleep through the whole thing, haha. This painting is about that! Hope you guys like it :)

Here's some random characters for you guys! Playing around with shapes and some subtle iPad brush effects. The new ability to paint on an effect or color modification is kind of a game changer, especially for adding shading with a higher saturation. Have you guys tried it yet?

Some of my brushtober work from this week! So here's the story: my first acrylic drawing completely backfired. I tried to make a painting of clouds catching the sunset light and it just really didn't work out the way I wanted to. Here's a photo:

The main thing that was frustrating me here were the colors. I wanted a vivid lilac-ish color, and intense pinks, but I was getting blue, dark red and ...
