Here’s part 3 of the full process for BLOSSOM! This was the most frustrating part because honestly, halfway through the process I felt like the image was close to being done. But when I zoomed in, I saw that there was much work that needed to be done to clean up the edges and generally smooth everything out. So this was the part of the process that was most time consuming, but involved the least creative decisions.

Here’s part 2 of the full process for BLOSSOM! At this stage, I had the colors and positioning of the image mostly worked out, and it was a question of detailing the background bit by bit. The messy, scribbly plants needed to be cleaned up.

UPDATE // sketchbook tour progress

My first sketchbook tour is almost done! It's rendering as I'm typing this. It’s been quite a challenge creating this video because it’s a steep learning curve for me. In the last few days I learned a lot about:

• Working with 4K video and finding ways to optimize the workflow
• Adjusting shutter speed to avoid flickering
• Recording audio with a separate mic and editing out intense peaks in sound
• How many memories arise when I flip through old sketchbooks...

SKETCHES // Leersumse veld

As promised, larger versions of the sketches I posted earlier! You can see how messy my sketches are up close! I’m a big believer in keeping imperfections in my art, because it adds personality. You can also check out the ref photos ~ I make it a priority to stylize my art, so the drawings are quite different from the originals :) Do you guys ever draw using reference?

SKETCHES // animals

Last month I went to the zoo with a bunch of other artists and we sketched the animals from life. It made me realize how much I love drawing animals - not only do I love their energy and movement, but it’s such a learning process for me because I almost never draw them! UPDATE // Storyworld art & process

Hey lovely Patrons! Just a little update to let you know what I’ve been up to for the past two days! Long story short: I travelled up to Groningen, a city in the Netherlands that’s about a two hour drive from my hometown, and spent two days there to be present at the official opening of Storyworld.

Here’s some of the steps for one of my recent paintings: Mushroom! I was initially inspired by photos of pink oyster mushrooms. They looked so beautiful and strange, and a bit like flower petals, which I tried to capture in my painting.
