Forgot to record the very first sketch lines nd some final touches at the end, but for the rest, I managed to record the full process for Kookaburra! Here’s the final painting:

The process is sped up 10x, and took about 6 hours to make in real time. Some of the things I really struggled with during this process were:

Wow! My first month of having this Patreon has just flown by! I hope you enjoyed the art and videos! Here’s a quick review of how the month went for me, just so you can get a sense of what it means to me and how I will move forward from here.
CREATING VIDEO
Making the sketchbook tour was a really steep learning curve for me! I had to figure out a lot of stuff about filming and editing to make it work. Even though it was challenging, it was worth it because...

These are the basic steps that I use when I make studies from photo reference!
The most important thing for me is that the rough sketch is expressive and stylized. The further in the process I go, the more ‘realistic’ it starts to get and the more it loses the movement of the first sketch. So I always want the first sketch to be as expressive as possible - and as you can see, I don’t really sweat the details at step 1 (just look at her face!)
Step 4 is also an importan...

It’s been so long since I made some gesture / anatomy studies! I dove back into the deviantart stock photo section and sketched these. I want to do more studies from reference and push myself to stylize and exaggerate more, so expect more of that in the coming months! I’ll post larger versions, step-by-steps and the reference pictures tomorrow.

A quick process video for the first half of Stargazer! Just the part that I did in procreate. For the most part, I used Maxpacks gouache brushes for this one. Hope you enjoy!

Here’s the steps for the early access painting I posted last month, plus a larger version! As you can see, the painting changed a bazillion times. It started out as a procreate doodle on the ipad and then later I worked out the details in photoshop. The step where I switch from procreate to photoshop is the one where she’s suddenly looking up rather than down.
Every time I revisited it, I wanted to change things around. It’s part of my intuitive process - just going with the flow ...

Finally finished this one! It started as a live demo sketch during a workshop I gave in Austria last November. I sat down to finish it and it ended up becoming a lot more detailed than planned! I just got carried away with it and really enjoyed working out the details. I also recorded part of the drawing process with my phone, I’ll post that video immediately after this one goes up :) Hope you like it!

Allright guys, here’s my first sketchbook tour! This is my first time creating a video like this, and I’m so ENDLESSLY grateful for your support in allowing me to make it. This is my personal favorite sketchbook and one of my most filled ones, so the video ended up being quite long! I hope you enjoy it!!
Here’s some stuff that was referenced in the video:

Here’s a piece I’ve been working on in the last few days - it’s for a fundraiser run by Procreate for the Australia fires. The profits raised from the sale of this print will be going to 2 charities: The Red Cross Bushfire Appeal to support firefighters, volunteers and victims, and the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors who are taking in wildlife from all over Australia. If you’re interested in getting a print, it’s going up tomorrow ~ I’ll be posting the link accross all of my socia...

Here’s part 3 of the full process for BLOSSOM! This was the most frustrating part because honestly, halfway through the process I felt like the image was close to being done. But when I zoomed in, I saw that there was much work that needed to be done to clean up the edges and generally smooth everything out. So this was the part of the process that was most time consuming, but involved the least creative decisions.
Notes for this video:
- When I’m cleaning up a...

Here’s part 2 of the full process for BLOSSOM! At this stage, I had the colors and positioning of the image mostly worked out, and it was a question of detailing the background bit by bit. The messy, scribbly plants needed to be cleaned up.
Notes for this video:
- I’m working mostly on one layer, but every now and then I’ll add some details or paint a new plant on a separate layer and then merge it down once it’s detailed enough. This is especially useful i...

I’ve been digging through some of my old screen recordings! There are a LOT that I have never assembled into process videos. This week I put together the full process of BLOSSOM, a painting I made in 2016. Here’s a large version of the piece:

This is one of the most detailed paintings I’ve ever worked on and it took me a long, long time to make. The video is sped up, b...

My first sketchbook tour is almost done! It's rendering as I'm typing this. It’s been quite a challenge creating this video because it’s a steep learning curve for me. In the last few days I learned a lot about:
- Working with 4K video and finding ways to optimize the workflow
- Adjusting shutter speed to avoid flickering
- Recording audio with a separate mic and editing out intense peaks in sound
- How many memories arise when I flip through old sketchbooks...

As promised, larger versions of the sketches I posted earlier! You can see how messy my sketches are up close! I’m a big believer in keeping imperfections in my art, because it adds personality. You can also check out the ref photos ~ I make it a priority to stylize my art, so the drawings are quite different from the originals :) Do you guys ever draw using reference?

Thanks to you wonderful patrons, I now have time to get back into making studies and sketches, something I've missed so much!! Here are some nature studies of a lovely dutch place called Leersumse Veld. Me and my boyfriend took a winter walk there. It’s a beautiful spot to walk during this time of year because there are a lot of pines and so it’s green all year round. Because you are a patron, you are the first to see these! I’ll also be posting some larger versions and the original ref...

Last week I was interviewed for an article in the dutch newspaper Trouw! I figured it might be fun to share here. I translated it into english, here it comes:
Previously, her work had been on display in a few coffee places. Now, with her exhibition in Storyworld, she now has her first official museum exhibition under her belt. Her work has been printed out and displayed in the Storyworld approach: from sketchbook to finished product.

Last month I went to the zoo with a bunch of other artists and we sketched the animals from life. It made me realize how much I love drawing animals - not only do I love their energy and movement, but it’s such a learning process for me because I almost never draw them! Here’s a bunch of animal studies I’ve done in the past - the first ones are from life at the zoo, and the rest are from photo reference.
I'd love to do some animal studies this month. Maybe we could choose an...

Hey lovely Patrons! Just a little update to let you know what I’ve been up to for the past two days! Long story short: I travelled up to Groningen, a city in the Netherlands that’s about a two hour drive from my hometown, and spent two days there to be present at the official opening of Storyworld.
Storyworld is a new museum about comics, games and animation. They also have a temporary exhibition space, and my art will be on display there until the end of March! T...

I'll most likely post it early next week, depending on how much time it takes to render it! Thanks so much for the support guys, I'm really looking forward to hearing what you think about the tour once it's done <3

Here's the process for yesterday's thank you drawing! It's just the process from beginning to end, slightly sped up, no audio.
For those who want to know more about the steps in the process, here's some more info about how I handle each phase of the drawing:
1. SKETCH
In the beginning, I just want to keep it loose and free! If I get hung up on the details at this stage, I tend to feel stuck, so I’m just doing some quick loose ...

Here’s some gesture sketches that I drew from life earlier last year! I love doing quick studies and sketches - I always feel like I’m learning the most when I’m working fast and trying to translate something I see in front of me into my own style. It's uncomfortable while I’m drawing, feeling like there’s not enough time - but afterwards I’m always suprised by how I was able to challenge myself.
In the last few years, I’ve had less and less time to do quick sketches and s...

Here’s a piece I just finished, that I’ve been working on since July. It went through a bunch of different phases and ended up changing the style and colors a few times. I was really struggling with it until I changed the direction of her face and suddenly the image just ‘clicked’ for me! I’ve been flying a lot to travel for workshops, and this image started out on one of those flights while doodling on my iPad. I just love staring out the window and looking at the sky and clouds pa...

Here are some of the WIPs I want to tackle and finish up in the coming months! They’re still in the early stages right now. It’s the phase where it’s the most fun and exciting, but the image can still head in any direction.
When I’m feeling super motivated, I like to sit down and create a bunch of different WIPs all at once, and then finish them one by one in the weeks after. The further I get in the painting process, the more boring it becomes to work on the painti...

Here’s some of the steps for one of my recent paintings: Mushroom! I was initially inspired by photos of pink oyster mushrooms. They looked so beautiful and strange, and a bit like flower petals, which I tried to capture in my painting. I worked on it for a while but then it ended up being ignored for a couple of months; when I got back to it I felt like it was just too smooth so I went for a ‘chunkier’ kind of shading. I also struggled a lot with the mushrooms, trying to get the right ...
