Both Max and Dr. Alan Chipmunk were supposed to be beige. Our syndicate's thought was older characters would be more muted colors. Mel and I snuck in the red for the devil theme.

You can actually put too many song lyrics in a comic strip and have it pulled. Until that happened to us with another strip, that didn't occur to me. I guess because I figured the music wouldn't be able to run also. Or because I'm not that bright. :D

I'm white (Irish American), but come from a very diverse family. We're of Irish, Italian, Puerto Rican, Korean, and Dominican descents. Diverse sexualities too. The overall common element though is we're all goofballs! It's hard not seeing them as often with the pandemic. How're you all holding up?

My pet dog Sammy, who Squishy the amoeba was based on, passsed away on the day we signed the contracts with King Features for the strip. I think the strip is jinxed.

Our original editor, Jay Kennedy (who drowned a month before the strip premiered) had one of the world's largest collections of alternative comics. It can be seen at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum in Columbus, OH.

When writing Maureen, I kept hearing this voice I couldn't identify. Then I realized it was the actress who plays Ross's ex-wife on mostof the episodes 'Friends'. Her name is Jane Sibbett, btw.

If you look in the one panel of the Sunday strip, you can see a picture hanging of a beaver and a duck. For awhile our editor wanted Norm's parents to be a beaver and a duck. I didn't like it, so I never followed up the idea. I thought it would lead to me having to write Wuzzles into the strip. :)

Believe it or not, back in 2007 comic book conventions weren't the most celebrated things in the world, and the general public's knowledge about superheroes was limited. Now people know who Rocket Raccoon is.
