Ya know... the last poll reminded me that I've always wanted to draw this character, and I've been itching to draw something slightly more creature-esque, so here's a peek at this sexy fish outta water! Still lots of work to do, but I'm betting she'll look quite nice by the time I'm through.

What’s Happening (Please Read)

Starting in early August I am relaunching and converting this page into a per-monthly Patreon page centered around comics. Mimiru WiP

Here are the lines for the upcoming illustration from the obscure character poll. Mimiru from .hack//sign won. I vaguely remember .hack//sign from Toonami, but I'm not too familiar with her. She seems like a genki girl, and I like that so I figured a nice energetic pose would suit her well. Also she has brown skin (or tan?) and that's pretty nice too so this will be fun! A (not so) Special Message

So I recorded some audio for you guys today. I wish I could say it was a special message or something like that but It's just me and a microphone for about 12 minutes. I talk about my life and things. I was feeling a little bit nervous but I did it anyway. I think I even get emotional part-way through, but whatever man, who cares. Midnight WiP 04

Little changed while lining the image but some small refinements have been made. The hair is a little less poofy than it was before (although it remains fairly large overall - and I don't mind it too much), and more rips have been added to her white body suit. It looks a little busy now but a color test showed me that the rips bring focus without appearing overly complex.

Many changes often happen between the compositional lay-in and the underlying sketch. I've flipped the canvas here as I think the image reads a little better, and worked on the form of the figure, the details of the image and the overall expression. I'm happy with her look, but I'm thinking her hair is maybe a touch too big so it will get refined during the line work.

There are many structural elements to a good illustration that need to be taken care of up front. Here I start laying in some basic forms over my thumbnail as a search for the answers. Regarding her gesture I try to follow a curved line of action to make the seated pose more dynamic and make sure to point the planes of her body in different directions. Compositionally I try out different placements for limbs and objects. What is the best way for her to hold her crop so that it balances the image...
