i grew up with the northern lights. in the winters when i walked to and from school in the dark, there would often be northern lights, so designing this monster actually made me feel a bit nostalgic for home.

first, i was thinking about how to best portray the colours and moving shapes of northern lights; i could have simply coloured a part of the monster's body with those green-ish colours, perhaps in a pattern that mimiced the 'flowy ribbon' shape of northern lights. but i didn't want...

EARLY ACCESS: ink lady // sfw

i had such a neat idea for what my ink yokai's "human" form would look like, so i had to draw it! her hands and feet are dripping with ink that also stains her clothes, and her hair is constantly wet with black ink as well. her monster form's colour scheme was originally inspired by ink on paper, and it translates into her human form looking very desaturated and almost greyscale, or at least oddly monochrome compared to the world around her. the background effects are inspired by stained pape...

the sketch and lineart established the basic forms of the characters, especially in the case of our gargoyle friend. they're made of stone, some of which is carved in imitation of fur, feathers, and scales. already at the sketch and lineart stage...
