Halo Infinite's holiday 2021 release window has apparently been narrowed down

One of the biggest disappointments of Xbox's E3 showcase was Halo Infinite not getting a specific release date - a feeling that was exacerbated by the fact that Starfield did and it isn't even out until next year. But, speaking on a podcast this week, Phil Spencer confirmed that the game's Holiday 2021 release window has been narrowed down to "a few weeks."

  • It's not the most reassuring s...

Overwatch cross-play is now live

The much-requested functionality launched in beta yesterday and coincided with a celebratory in-game challenge. Cross-play applies to players on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch and requires everyone to either create a new Battle.net account or connect their console to an existing one - even if they don't want to actually use cross-platform multiplayer.

  • Players have been asking Blizzard for Overwatch cross-play for years now so it's g...

Cyberpunk 2077 returns to the PlayStation Store, but Sony counsel caution

Cyberpunk 2077 is once again available for download on the PlayStation Store, more than 180 days after the game's dreadful PS4 launch prompted Sony to delist the game from sale. The return comes after a series of high-profile updates and patches from developer CD Projekt Red but, while the game is now in a vastly improved state, Sony are still warning players against playing the game on a base PS4 until CDPR fix...

Sony want more cross-play

In a new interview with Axios, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said that Sony "support and encourage cross-play" on their platform, and that the number of games that support it will "continue to grow" beyond those big titles like Rocket League, Fortnite, and Minecraft. Ryan also asserted that Sony's policies on cross-play are "consistent" with other big games companies.

Xbox cloud streaming is finally headed to Xbox One

The news comes courtesy of the Xbox Wire portion of Xbox and Bethesda's E3 presentation, which revealed that xCloud gaming will enable next-generation gaming on the base Xbox One. The announcement comes just a couple days after Microsoft confirmed that they are in the "final stages" of transitioning their cloud data centres to Xbox Series X hardware - they'd relied on Xbox One S until now.

Bethesda say they understand backlash over Starfield Xbox exclusivity

Starfield was finally confirmed to be an Xbox exclusive at E3 after months of speculation and, while it was obviously expected given the fact that Microsoft literally own Bethesda these days, the decision hasn't gone over too well in certain circles. Bethesda understand this, with SVP of global marketing saying that he understands if some PlayStation players are "pissed" about the decision.

Breath of the Wild 2 is aiming for a 2022 release

A new trailer for the long-awaited sequel was Nintendo's final reveal of yesterday's Direct presentation, which showed that the action has now expanded to include the skies over Hyrule. The trailer was fairly brief but managed to pack in a lot of information - including new locations, abilities, and boss battles. It also concluded with screen reading only "2022."

Starfield is "Nasa meets Indiana Jones" releasing next year

Bethesda's ambitious space RPG was shown off for the first time since it was announced way back in 2018 and apparently the best way Todd Howard could think to describe it was "like NASA meets Indiana Jones meets the League of Extraordinary Gentleman." Hard to know exactly what any of that is supposed to mean, but it was good to officially see the game after so many months of leaks.
