June 2017 : Swimming and cooking in Huahine

We found internet paradise.

Baie d'Avea in Huahine, southwest of the island. Here, we get internet from the BOAT. We spent the last month updating all of our projects, our productivity went up 200%.

The best part of it is, it’s free, and the bay is absolutely stunning. The water is clear, and the reefs full of colourful fish.

The downside of the place is the lack of fresh food, we just finished our last onion. Devine & I have been eating a lot of canned...

May 2017: Anchored in Tahiti

So, as it turns out, Tahiti isn't internet paradise, but we got a lot of projects done here nonetheless.  We just released Thousand Rooms  , did updates on Ronin  , started a manuscript for a short story, made a papaya bruschetta recipe &n...

Recipe: Papaya bruschetta topping

Before we arrived in the Marquesas, people made a point of telling us how difficult it was to find vegetables there.

We heard that if we wanted tomatoes, we would need to get up at 4am to get them at the market. Devine & I are early risers, but we lacked the will to take the dinghy to shore in the dark. It's just as well, because others we met who had tried came back empty handed. In the marquesas most vegetables are brought in by supply ships, and you can never be certain of what yo...

S02E04 It's Raining In Paradise

Yep, the grey skies and rain follow us everywhere, even in paradise.  It's okay though, we rather like it now.

Follow us as we eat all of the things, explore Nuku Hiva and travel to Rangiroa.

It took us 2 days to upload this video, internet is not widely available (or fast) in FP.  We are VERY happy that it's online, now we can relax. Uploading videos has been a challenge since we've arrived in the south pacific, and the worse is yet to come (more tiny islands are in our saili...

Thousand Room Preview

Here's a rough draft of our upcoming book! Below are a few things that we would like your help with, once you have had a chance to look at the book. While the book is missing final formatting, the texts are complete. Can you make sense of the story? Or what do you understand the story to be?

We think that we have explored most of the non-violent avenues of the system, but we might have overlooked some things. Are there options that we have not illustrated that you think would add to the story,...

Moving to another island

Nuku Hiva has been amazing, but now it's time to go. We will be stopping by Taioa bay before making the jump to an island in the Tuamotus, our stop after that will be Tahiti. It should take us a bit more than a week to get there, the wind forecast is good and we are eager to sail.

We will be releasing our capsule video once we get to Tahiti, we won't be able to  upload it before then because of slow internet in the Marquesas and the Tuamotus. Being regular with video uploads has bec...

New project: Thousand rooms

We spent a lot of time brainstorming during the pacific crossing, since we arrived in Nuku Hiva we started a new illustrated book project called 'Thousand rooms'.  We are hoping to release it before we leave the island of Nuku Hiva, otherwise, it will be released once we get to Tahiti in 1-2 weeks.

The book will be available for purchase on most e-readers, we may print the book once we get to New Zealand (hard to do that from where we are now). Naturally, 10+ Patrons will receive a c...

A Crossing the Pacific Story

We are leaving La Paz, cargo full of artisan pitas, Baja Wine and chipotle. A nice strong wind spits us out of the Sea of Cortez, we are flying under a dramatic sunset. One morning, I emerge from a troubled sleep to find a troubled skipper; opening the hatch, I find Rekka in a partially submerged cockpit knee deep in an uninvited sea.

Our auto-pilot dies, gone are the days of pressing "play" and hiding from the weather.

Another day, we run out of non-root non-...

Season 2 Episode 2: Leaving for the South Pacific!

It's happening again, we are leaving for the ocean. We wont be able to reply to messages for a whole month (or more), depending on the winds and the internet situation in Nuku Hiva.

Here's hoping the winds will be kind to Pino, and that we'll make good time to the Marquesas.

This is exciting, we are crazy nervous but also very eager to leave. Our time in Mexico was amazing, and we're looking forward to returning there someday. We will be updating our route on our website.

Provisioning for the pacific crossing

We're at it again, stocking the boat like we're prepping for nuclear war. The boat is going to have food for 2 months, certain specialty items we'll have for 4 months. French Polynesia doesn't have soy milk, oats and other items we need so we'll have to get lots of those. We plan to use the rum to preserve ginger, will do the same for fresh herbs with olive oil.

As you know, we don't eat meat, fish or dairy so we need to make sure we have what we need to stay healthy.

Here is a det...

One year ago today

On a cold and grey morning, we boarded the ferry to Vancouver island with our bikes and luggage.

Both of us took note of all of the islands on the way, neither of us really understood what life on the water was like then. We knew little of winds and current. The rise and fall of tides we knew had something to do with the moon, but that's it.  Our knowledge of the nautical world was pieced together from books, youtube videos and movies. We made it to North Saanich and moved ...

Capsule 4: Our domino game

If you ever join us on Pino for an evening, we might challenge you to a game of Domine.

When we started this journey a year ago, we bought a set of dominos. Playing regular dominos is fun, but it gets old after a while. We decided to make a new game with it, and this video will explain how to play.

So unbox those dominos and give it a try!

Release: Donsol

Donsol is a solitary card game, designed by John Eternal, in which you must go through the deck in sequences of 4 cards. It's one of our favourite card games and we have decided to build an application to play it, and here it is for everyone to play.

The Donsol rules to play with a standard deck of cards can be found here:

Episode 12: Sailing down the baja coast

We made it, we sailed 700+nm from Ensenada to La Paz. It wasn't an easy sail, but we learned a ton of stuff.

We're going to be spending the winter in La Paz, working on boat projects, Markle and other apps.

This episode is the last of the year, hope you like watching our videos because we enjoy making them!

Best,

Donsol Beta

Hi!

We have just completed a beta version of our upcoming desktop game(also works on mobile apparently..) Donsol. The game was originally designed by John Eternal, during Train Jam, and we loved it so much that we created clients/apps to play it.

You can play it here before everyone else, as we iron out the rough edges. You can read the instructions here: 2016-12-18 19:06:37 +0000 UTC View Post

Southern waters

After staying in Ensenada for a month, we were eager to leave. Pushing off the dock is both stressful and exciting. This trip was going to be a long one, the kindle had new books to read and our phones were filled with podcasts (see below for list of books and podcasts).

After looking at the weather, we could see something brewing up north of us. The coastline around Point Conception and downward was dark shades of orange and red. This meant that great big swells were coming. It didn't t...

Episode 11: It follows

We crossed into Mexico with our loyal friend, the fog, and spent a month in Ensenada getting some projects done. Because Rekka's laptop died, we had to make changes in our workflow. Devine adopted the ChromeBook as his workstation and made Ronin, a command-based visual editor, to replace photoshop.

We are wasting time in the city, watching the fog roll in and out of the harbour each day.

Pino will make its way south start of december, we can't wait to move again! It's been a while....

Lights

Days are shorter, we got some xmas lights to brighten up our evenings.

With every costumization, we make Pino ours. This week we also made some hanging planters for herbs, using old Choya glasses and black paracord. If you've never tried to make projects with paracord we highly recommend it.

Most of our time is spent working on contracts, trying to replenish our funds for the next step in our journey. We have some very big plans ahead, more info on that soon.

We are still in ...

Capsule 3 : Development on Chrome OS

In this video, we show some of the tools that we have built to help do our work using the Samsung Chromebook 3. One of our two laptops died and , being in Mexico, getting a new one or repairing our current one is complicated (and expensive). So we created a replacement for photoshop, and learned to work with a new platform.

Episode 10: Sailing the American Pacific Coast

Hello Patrons!

A year ago we launched our Patreon and the Hundred Rabbits project. We were shopping for sailboats online and looking for airbnbs in Vancouver. So much has happened since then...

We sailed down the SoCal coast and had our shares of troubles, but we also experienced a lot of amazing moments. If only dolphins could swim at our bow everyday.

We are currently in Mexico and the next video will be about our experience there! We are constantly looking for idea for short...

The goat character will give hints to the player to help solve puzzles. The hints will form on his body, we liked the idea of the goat's face dissolving...

Last stop before Mexico

Hey everyone,

We thought we would let you know what we've been up to these last couple of days.

We fixed Calcifer, it stopped overheating and we made it safely past Point Conception and over to Los Angeles. There was scale clogging the pipes, keeping water from cooling the engine - the things that you learn when you pry machines apart.

In Los Angeles, we made it to IndieCade and met up with a lot of good friends. The world feels really small sometimes, it feels li...
