Out Now! Zoopraxography For Lovers (or, Cinema's First Kiss Was Between Two Women)

The final version is out! Thanks to all who came to the premiere last night. I'll once again recommend watching on Nebula, since that version is ad-free and uncensored (he Patreon early access version is, too, but it wasn't 100% finalized).

I'll be posting sources & more info as soon as possible. In the meantime, if anyone has questions, don't hesitate to ask!

EARLY ACCESS: Zoopraxography For Lovers - The Story of Cinema's First Kiss

I'm finally nearing the finish line on this new video, so I think I'm ready to share it with you. I've still got to colour-correct and add some more songs, but if you don't want to wait until Friday for the full premiere, you can watch now by clicking this link. :)

Important note: this version hasn't been censored, so it's age-restricted. You won't be able to watch it unless you're 18 or older. Sorry a...

First look - Zoopraxography For Lovers

Here are some early stills from my next video, Zoopraxography For Lovers*. It's about the first filmed kiss in history, which was between two anonymous women about 140 years ago, and has been almost completely forgotten by history.

This is on track to be my longest and most elaborate video yet, a proper deep-dive running about 45 minutes. It's all been written and shot, and I'm currently in the thick of the edit. It'll be out near the end of the month - would've been sooner, but I caugh...

September Production Diary: Phase Four

I'm trying something new for this month's update: an intimate look into my creative process as I head into some new projects. If you just want info on the next video, skip ahead to the next section. :)

Fall 2022 - a new era

For a while, I've informally grouped my video catalog into a few loose "phases". I've changed my approach & mindset about this job a few times, and I think the videos reflect that.

Overcoming Amnesia: 25+ Places to Learn Queer History Online

Photo: edit of Jennie June's self-portrait, "The Author at Thirty-Four"

At the end of a recent video, I promised to offer some resources on queer history "a couple days from now". That was (checks notes) two months ago, so I guess I'm right on time!

Here are a bunch of places you can learn about queer history, almost all of them free. (Actually, all View Post

TRANS YOUTH VS. HEALTHCARE - full series out now!

My series on healthcare for trans youth, produced with Trans PULSE Canada, is here!

As I watched what began as a three-month project balloon into five months, and then into seven, I feared the day would never come. But it's freaking done.

Episode 1 - TRANS YOUTH: What Do We Want?

Everyone's talking about the dangers of letting young people medically transitio...

In the works since January, I’m finally finishing up my series with Trans Pulse Canada on trans youth and healthcare.

July Update

(I almost typed "May Update" again, if that gives any sense of how much the past 2 months have been a blur.)

Hi buds! It's been a while. Here's what's up on my end.

Life

Things have been a real mixed bag. I've spent the past couple weeks mostly on vacation - a bit at home, a bit on the beach. Ironically, it's been great for my productivity: something like 30% of this job takes place inside my head, understanding texts and developing ideas, and this break has ...

EARLY ACCESS: Queer Amnesia & the Death of Discourse

(or, "why is queer discourse so toxic?")

It's here, just in time to close out Pride Month 2022! My look at some factors worsening the state of queer discourse: corporate interests, atomization and cultural amnesia. A few graphics are missing from this cut, but it's basically final. If you notice any major problems with it, please let me know!

My brain is soup. Goodnight :)

I think we'll do another one for 40k, whenever that happens!

We're also trying to raise $500 for the National Network of Abortion Funds; I'll match the first $200 in donations.

The livestream will happen at this link.

Leave your questions below to make sure I get to them!

Reading Notes: What Are Women?

A handful of people said they wished there were notes for my last video, and now there are! Here are some notes I took while researching the video, edited and condensed for clarity.

I couldn't find my notes for everything I read, so this covers 2 essays by Maria Lugones and 2 essays by Monique Wittig. These, with Engels' "Origin of the Family", formed the backbon...

EARLY ACCESS: What Are Women?

Back in full force, buds, with my longest video yet: "What Are Women?"

This one is about what it means to be a woman, from the birth of modern gender 12 000 years ago up to today. It's about how the anti-trans movement weaponizes this question to gain public support, and why every definition of "woman" ultimately fails.

This version isn't totally final - no text in the credits and the sound might be a little wonky - but it's basically done.

I really hope you enjoy! ...

Sneak peek: Things to Hold Close

Hi, everyone!

Here's a segment from my next video. It's about the Fermi paradox, grief, revelling in ugliness and vulnerability. The usual fun stuff.

Forgive the roughness, it's very much a work in progress!

I'll share a version of the full video with you on the 8th or 9th. The public premiere will be on March 11th.

See you soon. Take care. <3

December update: dear reader, it's goin' down

Hey folks! I owe you an update. Here's what's going on with me, and what's in the works right now.

I'm in the middle of writing the last video of the year. It's about TERFs (a topic I'm sure nobody is sick of yet) and a slogan they're using a lot lately: "Sex, not gender".  TERFs pride themselves in their connection to "biological sex", and claim their sex-based analysis keeps them grounded in reality. I think this is nonsense (hold for shock) and I want t...

Full version OUT NOW: We Cooked 3 AI-Generated Recipes. It Went Badly.

Hey gang! The finalized version of our AI cooking experiment is out now. This version is tighter, funnier and better-quality (though the sound is still a bit janky - Adobe Premiere is the devil etc).

This one's goofy and not remotely nerdy or sentimental, but worry not. The next couple mainline videos are both those things and intensely so. More on those in a few weeks.

If you haven't seen this one yet, enjoy!

NEW VIDEO: We Cooked 3 AI-Generated Recipes. It Went Badly.

It's here y'all, the sequel to The Surreal Dreams of AI-Generated Art! This one's much less academic and much more silly.

This is the early access version, I'm not sure when the final thing will be out (probably in a few days).  I've been having some real issues with Premiere Pro, and just wanted to get this to you - sound/graphics/etc are close, but definitely not final.
