Xbox OG port is alive again!

We know the RetroArch Xbox OG port (yes, the old one from 2001, not the Xbox One) has been dead for a long time. Well, it's alive again! What you see here is a direct screen grab of RetroArch running on Xbox OG!

This new port will now use the same menu drivers that are available on PC versions, such as RGUI.

Next-frame response time (≤16ms!) achievable with RetroArch! Latency with RetroArch as good as real hardware!

RetroArch is truly in a league of its own when it comes to input responsiveness, and it keeps blowing away even us here at Libretro, to the degree that independent researchers start researching quite how good RetroArch can be and completely shattering several myths that have long been accepted as gospel in emulation circles:

- That emulation will always have an implicit 3 to 5 frames of input lag

- That there's nothing one can do to avoid this

Well, that is all well in the past now...

Appeal to game journalists - about the 'retro emulation industry' in general

Please read this article -

Inbetween having to prepare for a new version and keeping our spirits high, we have to deal with nonsense like this. I hope that we finally can gain some traction amongst game journalists whom can cover our woes.

Update on new version release

We are spending some extra time to ensure the Wii U release is not bugged for the upcoming release (1.7.0) and some other things. Hoping to still get it out by Christmas, if it hadn't been for these extra complications, it'd have already been out.  There's a lot of noteworthy new stuff that will be in 1.7.0.

In other news, we have made a new reward for Patreon users who are pledging $5 or more. Not only will you show up as a Patron on our Discords channel (go to retroarch.com and cl...

RPCS3 the emulator is a very cool project, so are the guys behind it. Less than a day after filing a Github issue, RetroArch PS3 has started rendering correctly and delayed swizzle remap on textures was also added. Hope this fixes some more games in the process!

Forums back up - upgrading servers

Hi there,

After some minor downtime, our forums should be back online! Tomorrow the buildbot site will be available again. The reason for these minor interruptions to the service are because we were running out of disk space on our website server, so we had to upgrade our disk space on the servers by another 300GB. This will add some more to our monthly server bill but thanks to your support we are able to deal with this immediately.

Important statement on Tek Syndicate and 'Sen Pi' and their use of Lakka (UPDATE)

UPDATE: Amazon took down the link from their store based on our software being included which is not for commercial resale. As long as our software's license and terms are being respected, we are willing to ally and collaborate with people, including the party involved (if they intend on doing things by the book the second time around). But we cannot let wilfull violations of Lakka's license go unanswered. We are forced to act then.

RetroArch Roadmap for v1.7.0 and beyond

We don’t usually talk about all the behind the scenes development stuff that we do. We usually prefer to let the work speak for itself. Nevertheless, we feel compelled to share with you from now on a brief roadmap status update that basically shows what we are currently working on codebase-wise, where RA will go next, etc. We also hope this will be of use to existing upstream contributors.

Parallel N64 Multithreaded Angrylion update - performance tweaks/hacks

Here is a quick update on some new patches we have pushed to the Parallel N64 core –

1 – You can now get anywhere from a 6fps (conservative) to a 10fps or more performance boost with multithreaded Angrylion core by enabling a new option called ‘Send Audio Lists To RSP HLE’. Instead of sending audio lists to the low-level RSP plugin (cxd4), it will instead send these to the HLE (High-Level Emulated) RSP plugin instead. Note: If a game does not use the RSP for audio processi...

Parallel N64 with multithreaded Angrylion released!

First out of the gates is the new Parallel N64 core with multithreaded Angrylion! This is our port of ata4's Angrylion RDP Plus plugin, but we did a lot of alterations on it which you can read about in the article. The performance gains of Angrylion RDP Plus over the regular Angrylion plugin are real and noticeable on both Linux and Windows. Out of the two, though, it's Windows that by far benefits the most.

We have enabled Multithreaded Angrylion for:

* Linux

* Windows

Imminent: Multithreaded Angrylion coming to Parallel N64!

A new multithreaded-capable version of Angrylion (the software renderer) will be available soon in Parallel N64.

* Expect a speed up of roughly 2x on Windows to 1.5x on macOS/Linux.

* Based on Angrylion Plus, but unlike that plugin, does not require OpenGL, and especially not core GL context 3.2.

* Will have a multitude of performance tweaks and optimizations courtesy of LegendDragoon.

Progress report

RetroArch 1.6.8 is upcoming, but we are currently working on some blocking issues which prevents its release:

* We are working on fixing several issues that have been plaguing the WiiU port. We believe it's important that the console ports also keep working.

* Supermodel core has experienced a delay but we are going to make that happen early this month. We are also going to be holding a poll soon for the next two cores that we should cover.

* Xbox OG and 360 ports are going t...

New PPSSPP version now on the buildbot!

The latest PPSSPP core on the buildbot should now be available for Windows, Linux and macOS!

Some notes on the state of the port:

- We are going to be adding more core options to make this feature complete with standalone PPSSPP.

- No savestates yet, might be easy to hook up again and will probably arrive very soon.

- Internal resolution upscaling already works; just requires a restart of the core.

- So far only the OpenGL renderer has been hooked up; Vulkan is go...

New PPSSPP core progress!

The new PPSSPP core is beginning to run!

This time, we are working closely with upstream to ensure we don't fall behind again in updates. The intent is there to upstream this core, and already a PR has been pushed already by Hrydgard for the purpose of making the libretro core feasible.

A couple of things we are currently still working on:

- Testing right now on Linux. -O0 runs the core fine, -O2 causes some segfaults right now. We are going to try to iron those issues out. View Post
