Little podcast update :)

Here is a little voice message from me - instead of a piano mediation last week. Unfortunately there is no piano near me right now, I’m telling you more where I am etc in the message :) Let me know if you enjoyed hearing from me in this way!

All the best and have a good night! ⛵️

Sailing trip from Elba to Sardinia ⛵️

Hello everyone and apologies for the late update! I‘m currently on holidays sailing from Elba to Sardinia (Olbia) - and today on our way to Corsica we had dolphins swimming along with us! It was my first time seeing them and it felt so so so special :)

I will tell you a little more in the next post, instead of the usual piano meditation (unfortunately we don’t have a piano on board haha). I hope you’re doing well, sending you lots of sun from the marina! 🌞

Sunday piano meditation - no. 31

We're in Ab major today again, and for some reason I always struggle a little with tonalities with four accidentals - for some reason I always want to either play three or five, also this time - I needed a couple of tries once I was kinda satisfied with what I did and without interrupting the recording at some point. Usually I record the improvisation with maximum two takes - so its really fresh, not planned, not thought through, just in the moment.

Anyways I liked the result in the en...

The Belgian Blue @TheChelseaVienna

This is a beautiful, beautiful song called ‚Beautiful World‘ by The Belgian Blue featuring me on my little Brian Boru harp. I loved to be on stage with them - they‘re amazing musician and their songs honestly just hit the spot for me. Felt really happy and honored to be part of their concert, even though it was also a little stressful with a last minute rehearsal the night before and loooots of tuning before I went on stage, just to make sure that the harp kept the tuning. The more pluc...

Sunday piano draft - no. 2

I have a little draft for you again - I was not at home today so I couldn't record a fresh in-the-moment improvisation - but luckily I have this new song idea to share with you instead :)

It doesn't have lyrics yet (as you may noticed already music and structure of a song come usually first for me), but it sounds quite meaningful already. Please forgive my pitchy vocals this time haha, they're sometimes a little off, but it's just a simple draft as I do them for myself only - nothi...

Analogue days in early May ‘24

Some days ago I received some photos from a Finnish friend who took his analogue camera to Vienna. Really like the vibe it captured :)

1. evening jam session on a Wednesday night (including electronic beats, vocals, bass, guitar & harp)

2. little banana snack inbetween

3. eating mango & chocolate ice cream from around corner

4. spontaneously going to Filmcasino to watch "Challengers" (my favorite cinema here in Vienna - also loved the movie!)

5. all of u...

Sunday piano meditation - no. 30

Hoping that you just had a wonderful weekend - here comes my piano piece of the week.

I felt again like professionally recording at my Nord Stage, not just as usual simply at my upright piano - and I do enjoy this clean sound quite a lot. Also the G major (or for the very geeky musicians among you - G mixolydian half of the time) somehow fits the atmosphere of my evening. I did a lot of music in the past days, rehearsing for two upcoming gigs next week in a setup with piano, guitar and ...

Sunday piano demo - True Blue

Hello there, today I want to show you the most updated full demo of 'True blue' - the ones who follow me long and listen carefully enough might recognise this melody. Initially it was a Sunday improvisation somewhen in October last year. Then it showed up once more, because I started co-writing a song with Jamie Kierans during my last stay in Cork City, including this little piano theme. He happened to have a Chorus idea up his sleeve which just perfectly matched my piano motive - so we creat...

Live impressions from the @RedBox Mödling

Got some super nice photos from our live performance last week! Love the colourful lights and the smoky haze on stage, looking forward to the next ones! (credits to Philipp Rattacher)

Have five more gigs coming up this May, with different settings, different people, different music - love the variety and feeling honoured to be able to work with so many amazing artists :)

Sunday piano meditation - no. 29

Good night everyone - I wish you a good start into the new week ahead of us!

I‘m super tired at the moment, just arrived home after attending an event here in Munich, so I will rest now. Last night has been super short as well because of my gig in Vienna… busy weekend - but super nice!

I will extend this post and tell you more about it tomorrow :) Sleep well for now!

PS: F# major for the first time today! I really don’t play in that key very often, but I enjoyed the so...

Vergänglichkeit - Live @RedBox Mödling

I’m sitting in the train to Munich at the moment to watch a concert there tonight - but I still wanted to share a very fresh live impression from my performance with Max Nitsch yesterday evening. I had so much fun on stage! Really enjoyed the whole evening, both - people and atmosphere - were just amazing :)

With this tune I want to say goodbye to a pretty good day and also to a really nice week - it's full on April here in Vienna (I'm honestly considering switching on the heating again now, brrr it's cold again), but I still got a lot of nature, sunshine and fresh air within the last days. I made a small trip to Slovakia for two days and got lost on the hills, hiking and biking a lot (my legs still hate me a little, it was sooo steap in the forest!). Yesterday I was working from early til late -...

Sunday piano draft - no. 01

Today I want to share a personal little recording which I made this week. Maybe this is the birth of a new song - this time on the piano again. I really like the vibe of it, it's a classic piano ballad. The title in my recording app (yes, I usually just capture these drafts with my phone) is 'Soft Hymn', cause it doesn't have a topic or lyrics yet.

Do you have an association when you're listening to it? What does it bring up? What does it remind you of? In which situation would you lis...

Hush my darling - how a song develops

Remember guitar song no. 5? This is how it's going! I recorded some guitar tracks for it, multiple vocals and - wrote a trumpet arrangement for the Bridge, really like it! :)

This is a short snippet of the second chorus, it will still get a little shaped, edited and mixed. I'm quite happy how the song turned out. It kept the soft, floaty energy which I wrote it with - I like that I was able to still preserve this atmosphere.

Is it interesting for you to see the development of a s...

Sunday piano meditation - no. 27

It's spring! Finally! Or actually almost feels like summer here, everyone is out and about at Donauinsel, going for a swim or chilling in the sunshine reading a book, playing cards or listening to some music... It suddenly feels like there are double the amount of people living in Vienna. :)

My sister has been visiting these past days, so I've been very absent online and on social media - which felt quite nice I have to admit, but also makes me a little anxious cause messages etc are ju...

Some impressions from last springtime... :)

Sunday piano meditation - no. 26

Happy Easter everyone! :)

Today I caught myself fooling around (in D major), inventing really playful melodies and phrasings. Listening and playing and creating at the same time can be so much fun - cause I kinda know where its going, but sometimes I also surprise myself. Maybe you notice that moment in this improvisation, where I thought "ohhh, that's interesting, let's explore this theme a little more" ;)

Hope you had yourself a really nice sunny springtime Sunday with your love...

With this piece in C#minor I wish you a wonderful Sunday evening - I actually took the chance to record this on a grand piano two days ago, to have a different sound again. :)

I think this might be the first time I'm uploading this sitting at a friends place, while he's celebrating his 25th birthday, haha, I wanted to manage everything before, but couldn't finish it in time. Gotta keep it real here, and I honestly like to treat these weekly updates as if I would be writing in my diary, ...

More details with Kim E.

Some more results from the autumny shoot with a dear friend of mine, she spontaneously called me yesterday, which made me think of our cozy afternoon (actually looks cozier than it was haha, I was freezing quite a lot to be honest).

I miss being in front of the camera lately - but I'll probably have another collaboration soon! Had a meetup for it this week, if everything works out as planned it will be quite exceptional, very artsy with a Renaissance touch. The photographer will let me ...

Not much to say today - I had a songwriting session with a friend yesterday evening and played around with the little melody of the B-part in this improvisation (in C Major). Hmmm, gotta dwell on that still, could imagine lots of vocal layers stacking up and humming that, like the Outro of "Guiding Light" by Foy Vance - great song by the way! Check it out, if you want, especially the 8 min Live Version of it :)

I've been around a lot of people in the last days and didn't spend much time...

Hush my darling - guitar song no. 5

This is the working title in my note app, where I sketched the lyrics for the last song idea I wrote on the guitar. Last Thursday I also recorded a small demo track of it, with some more guitar and vocal layers, I actually really like the result - it is such a sweet, calming song. Here is a small snippet of the second verse and chorus :)

And these are the complete lyrics (I'm not entirely sure about the title - what would you choose? Feel free to let me know :))

Today I felt like playing in minor again (B minor to be precise), I'm not at my place right now so I recorded again digitally with the e-piano I have here. :)

I'm enjoying the little theme I created this time, gives me some Ludovico Einaudi vibes - I've never listened much to his music, but recently sight-read some pieces by him at a friends place, he definitely knows the balance between simplicity and uniqueness. Maybe I should listen to him more often... Do you have a favorite piece b...

Fernweh - Wanderlust by J. B.

Just stumbled across these beautiful photographs a friend of mine took with his analogue camera in the late, late summertime of '22. We, a group of five,  just had arrived on this greek island called Chios, right before the Turkish coast. It was 5 am in the morning or so, we had spent the night on a big ferry which brought us (plus two cars and a caravan) from Athens to the port of that island in the Aegean Sea. During that night we accidentally travelled through the biggest storm in the...

Hello & good night there - I think this is the latest upload I've done so far, in Vienna it's almost midnight by now. I've been honestly a little sun struck today - I went to the Donauinsel again! And today was the warmest day this year so far! I can't wait for the summer, I'm a real summer person (surprise right? I'm pretty sure most of you know that "Verano" means summer in Spanish :)) so warmth, sun and all the typical things you do during the warmer months of the year are totally my c...

draft of guitar song no. 5 - part II

Today was an emotional rollercoaster day - for some reason I felt quite upset and moody for the whole morning; within the last days my chronic bowel disease was quite present - which is okay for a couple of days, but if these episodes last longer it gets more and more tiring to deal with the symptoms, hmmm. I decided to go to the gym anyways and struggled quite a bit there (started training about a month ago and haven't found my perfect routine yet, even though I'm starting to enjoy the proce...

New song draft - guitar song no. 5

This is the first time I'm trying to share a video with you (and apparently I can only upload one per post...? Disappointing haha - I wanted to create a full bundle of behind-the-scenes clips from the last recording sessions, hmm, but I guess I have to do that bit by bit here). So this is just a late night recording of me sitting on my high bed around 1 am playing some guitar and humming the melody I'm hearing in my head. The song doesn't have lyrics yet, even though I started writing some th...

This is a very calming piece again, you can tell that I just recorded it now, in the late evening while being alone at home after a full day being around people and doing different things. I rearranged quite a lot in my room this morning (for those who are carefully watching my social media this won't be new) - I built a high bed this week, so there were and are still some things to do regarding that, the worst chaos is survived though, haha - I'm enjoying the change a lot! But I'm also reall...

Details with Kim E.

Before I share the piano piece of the week with you, I want to post some pictures again - I really like these results from a shoot I did in the end of last year with a dear friend of mine. We took them in the hallway of my building, it was quiet grey wintery Sunday here in Vienna and actually reaaaally cold already. I froze quite a bit, haha, but it was totally worth it - I really like how the dress moves and the details she captured, I'm truly grateful for having such talented friends. If yo...

Sunday Piano Meditation - no. 19

So this is the first recording with my new pianino, I decided to go for an instrumental version of a song I wrote about a year ago, it's called 'Weißt du' ('do you know') and I thought about recording and releasing it many times, but decided against it, because I felt to vulnerable to share it with the world out there. Especially because it's in German, my mothertongue. I think I might have shared the lyrics here with you, but I'm not entirely sure anymore. Well, it's one of these songs you ...
