A customer asked about some pages from the Vroom Socko (Hectic Planet) comic, and I pulled the envelope yesterday and priced everything out that's available. The page above was sold some time ago, but it's the only interior page I have a ready scan of. I also scanned the three color pages from the original Deadline run of the comic, those pages were inked and colored by Glyn Dillon. I'll post them here soon. I'm thinking of selling them, still on the fence about it.
I also reduce...

Hey, typing mostly w/my left hand, so pls excuse any/all typos. I found a memory stick (or wahtever they 're called) and on it was this pitch we did for an Adventure Time comic for BOOM studios some time back.
Apparently, 2014, according to the file. I forgot I could look that up..
Our kid was a big fan of the comics, curiosuly not a big fan of the show (have to admit I was with her on this, I found the show kind of irritating and really couldn't stand the Jake character, wh...

Tomorrow morning I have an EMG appointment to check out if the electrical activity in the muscles in my arm and hand are screwy. Or, rather, why they might be screwy, because they are screwy for sure. If I hold up my arm for ten or fifteen seconds my fingers start to tingle and go numb. Can't hold pencils or pens for long, a lot of muscle spasming and some shakiness. Swear I ain't been drinking anything but water, officer.
Hopefully after the test the doctors can figure out what's...

In 2004 Sarah and I were hired to do a 4-page comic for a then-new Sims game called The Urbz (along with Pete Bagge, Jay Stephens, Chynna Clugston-Flores, Jim Mahfood, James Kochalka and other creators). The Urbz was some kind of grittier Sims add-on, or something, I never played any version of the game and Electronic Arts didn't send comps out or anything like that so it's not something I have any connection to beyond the freelance gig.
I chose to do the "Central Station" location as t...

In a pile! Wheeeeeee!
There's maybe 17-19 pages here, depending on how many Fun Strips run on a page, it'll possible shrink to four box strips in a new format.
Speaking of format, I have nooooooo idea what that will be for the issue.
Right now it consists of the Fun Strip pages from the Heavy Metal humor one-shot, Soft Wood, the LiveJournal autobiographical one-pagers I did a few years ago and comics that have been posted here. I'll add new material when I can, w...

Hey, gang, here's a hopefully fun post while I'm still having trouble taking care of things around here.
Sometime in the 90's Sarah and I picked up a small batch of DeCarlo pages from Josie and Betty and Veronica, back when there were thousands of Archie Comics pages floating around and everything was (generally) affordable. This was the only full story we managed to get. It's pre-Pussycats, so you get Pepper, who was phased out and basically replaced by Valerie. Nothing against V...

Still tired and weak, still eating very little, but I tested negative for being a carrier! Huzzah and all that stuff.
I'm not coughing much at all, throat isn't hurting, still hve the dizzies. In a few days I will call the neurologist for an appointment for my arm. I've got anti-inflammation meds on the way but I have to wait to use them because they will throw off neurology testing (and conflict with my Fluvoxamine). I just want to get the arm taken care of so I can feel better and sle...

Hey, folks. Definitely getting better but still sick, still weak, coughing, sleeping most of the time. Sarah had mild symptos and has been taking precautions, so far the offspring has been free of trouble, thankgully.
Can't eat much, besides the taste issues I can't seem to keep much down. Drinking a lot of water, eating mostly saltine crackers and Jell-O. The good thing is I can read, the first week I was so dizzy I couldn't do much of anything but listen to old radio shows and h...

Thursday I had my doctor's appointment. I got a referral to a neurologist for my arm and hand issues. I didn't get pain meds because they would compromises the neurology tests.
I cam home, fell asleep, woke up the next day. Felt awful. Thought it was the wildfire smokw, which got through a lot of our old windows and was really bad last week (air still poor)Slept most of the day. Saturday I tested positive for Covid and have been mostly in bed since. I am on day three of Paxlovid. ...

Hey, folks. I'm having trouble loading some follow-up questions/comments so if you haven't seen a reply to something you wrote on the previous AKA, hit me up here and I'll answer asap.
Or feel free to ask me anything else here. I'm dealing with stuff in the studio (including doing a shit job of installing a new air conditioner) and my hand's a mess (see previous note about that air conditioner, I also threw my back out carrying the old, heavy one downstairs -- with Winky trying to trip ...

It's been a while since I did one of these. So, fire away. Within reason, of course.
My drawing/typing hand is currently up on blocks for extended periods of time (earliest doctor's appointment I could get is June 8th), so, replies might be slow in coming, if there's a decent number of responses.
Hope everyone's having a decent holiday. Thanks for sticking with me here during a fallow month of posting. Will try to make up for it as soon as I can.

Originally planned as an oversized Supergirl one-shot, delays in the two-part episode debuting the character in the Superman animated series (which Sarah and I co-wrote) caused it to be published as issue #21 of the Superman Adventures title. It was supposed to complement a Batgirl Animated one-shot, which is why both Bruce Timm covers mirror one another. It was eventually published in May, 1998.
The comic used a lot of material we developed for the animated series that wasn't used, or ...

Sorry it's been a while to get back to the World's Funnest Restrospective, but we're finally in the Fifth Dimension. On the planet Zrfff. I didn't know that Mr. Mxyzptlk lived on a planet called "Zrfff" in the Fifth Dimension until I did the research for the script. I never gave it any thought that the Fifth Dimension wasn't a singular location, I guess that means there's plenty of room to retcon and world-build in there if anyone wants to (or has already done). That's none of my beeswax, I'm...

From an e-mail I wrote in reply to some specific questions. I thought it might contain some potentially helpful advice for those of you who make comics (or art/writing of any kind). Please keep in mind that it was written off the cuff, is pretty basic and generalized, and is unedited, except to remove some personal stuff (including apologizing for the very late response). Also, I will add that when it comes to pitching a (comics) project, I'm sure there's online discussion and resources f...

Some jobs linger unexpectedly.
Above; My initial layout for the Bim Skala Bim covers comp art. After initial approval, the label guy was very concerned people would read the title as "Bam-Bim-Boom" rather than "Bim-Bam-Boom". I showed it to people who read it from top down. he showed it to people and a few read it from left, then up, then right. I'm fine with revising it only I don't love the 'tic-tac-toe" order asked for. But it's the best way to go to get things done. I'm really happy...

EDITED as this offer is now open to all Patreon backers.
Hey, folks.
This 11" x 17" pin-up is finally finished and is available for sale exclusively to Patreon backers (at all levels). If anyone wants to own this, I'm asking $2500, based on time, effort and what some smaller pieces have gone for on eBay over the past year (I will consider offers, obviously a lot depends on the offer and whether or not May turns out to be as much of a financial dry spell as April has been).

Scanned the seven illustration elements for the upcoming ska cover comp album.
Below is the initial rough layout. I was asked to change the text/title panels around (to read diagonally from upper left to lower right, like a tic-tac-toe) so I broke a few of up the illustrations up onto separate pieces of paper. And extended the art to allow room to move things around to fit better in the revised panel layout. So I'm no longer sure exactly what the finished cover will look like when...

In 2007 I was hired by editor Chris Duffy to do layouts for an 8-page Fairly Oddparents story for an all-comics issue of NICK MAG PRESENTS. Afterward, Nick Magazine ran a feature on how one of their comics was produced, which used a panel from the story to illustrate the process.
The 8-page Fairly Oddparents comic was called “Animal Magnetism” and ran in NICK MAG PRESENTS – BEST OF NICK ALL-COMICS ISSUE July, 2007(#22).
In 2005 I wrote the script and did the layo...

Just finished up these two panels for WFMU deejay Todd-O-Phonic Todd's fundraising marathon premium, which this year is an activity book illustrated by various artists. My contribution is a "Spot the Differences" page.

11 x 17, WIP.
Started life many years ago as a comic page, ended up as a pin-up that I add lines to every few week or months.
I added some more lines to it late last night during a terrible, terrible movie (Argento's Dracula, aka Dracula 3D -- Dumb, Dull and Dreadful). I was taking a break from drawing but the movie was so bad I got bored and needed something to do. This was within reach and I don't mind working in a state of semi-concentration if it's something that i...

Our friend Jennifer Grünwald (who has been working at Marvel Comics since forever ago) recently asked me if she could make a one-off shirt for herself using an old Milk & Cheese trading card image. I just finished up the artwork for the Bim Skala Bim covers album. Oy. I kept screwing things up and it took days longer than it should have. Shaky hand, fucked arm, anxiety, and a bad choice of paper and a revision that rejiggered the layout helped make a bit of a mess. I redrew some of the art several times, the old hitching kicked in and I just had problems working on the details. I need to work larger or lose details, or both. Anyway, I ended up drawing most of the images on separate piec...

Some books don't provide a great place to sketch in. Hellboy: Weird tales is one with all black pages in the front matter and while I did draw a Roger in white ink and sign the actual book, I wanted to add something more along the lines of what I usually do for a sketch. So if a book you order has no room or no white pages to draw on, you'll very likely get an extra little homemade bookplate as part to your order. Possibly an immature, childish thing.
