I finally managed to finish the full process of the volcano piece! It was about 12 and a half hours of total painting time, so I split it into three parts. It’s sped up to 300%, because it’s just totally unrealistic to render out 12 hours of painting! You can click on the gear button to slow the video down, or speed it up even more. This process starts with the thumbnail, you can see the full process video for creating the thumbnails here: 2020-07-03 10:33:45 +0000 UTC

Hey guys! I did a little more work on the Molten piece, and changed the texture of the rocks a little bit. Here is the final, final, REALLY FOR REAL final version! Haha. Thre's also a close-up and the old version in this post. I also finished the process videos, it took me a long time to make this so it will consist of 3 parts! Brace yourself, I am going to post them right after this one goes up! Hope you like them!

A lot of you asked, so here you go ~ the process video for my heads studies from a few weeks ago! It was a bit longer than my usual sketching session so I sped it up 2x. You can slow it down to see it at the real-time speed, or speed it up even faster if you want to see the overall process! Just click the gear button in the vimeo player.
For newer patrons, here is a step by step that explains ...

The end of the month is already here! I feel like time is flying by so fast in these corona times, it's just so weird. Do you guys have that too?
I really appreciate all of your support this month!! Here’s a quick review of how this month went for me:
FIRST TUTORIAL
This was my first month creating a tutorial instead of a sketchbook tour! It actually went a lot better than expected. Tutorials are usually quite painstaking for me to make because I’m ...

Here are some character sketches I made on my iPad! My backyard has been a great chill spot so I’ve been doodling on the iPad a little more, so that I have an excuse to hang out there :) I was just imagining some kind of eco-based commune with friendly earthly people who wear comfy clothes, haha. Hope you like!

Here’s a quick step-by-step showing how I made one of the wave studies from the previous post. The main thing I want to show with this is that the overall shape and movement is the most important thing when adding detail! If you make sure that the smaller details align with the overall movement, they feel like a part of the shape, rather than distracting from it. And in essence a wave is a very simple shape. Hope you enjoy and have an amazing weekend everyone!!

In preparation for a digital painting that I want to start working on soon, I wanted to do some quick wave studies! These were so fun to make. Step-by-step coming up in a separate post!

Finally finished a WIP that I started back in February! I imported the PSD file onto my iPad and finished it in procreate. It was nice to work with these bright fresh colors. Hope you like it!

Some doodles and explorations off of the top of my head! I wanted to explore a yellow / golden color scheme on a few different characters. I did the first part in photoshop and finished rendering it on the ipad. Hope you like!

Hey guys! I really enjoyed making that last tutorial video and I'm looking forward to making another one! If you haven't seen it yet, take a quick look to get a sense of the format and my style of explaining these topics! I'd love to hear what you guys want me to cover next, so help me out by voting in this poll!

Here it is: my first tutorial video! It was intended as a mini-tutorial but I was shocked to find that it was 50 minutes long when I was finished editing it! So I guess that just makes this a proper, full-on tutorial, haha. This is my first time recording a tutorial in this format: just casually talking while drawing. Let me know what you think and whether you find it useful! Any and all feedback is welcome! And I hope it answers any questions you might have about constructing a pose! If not,...

Here are some head studies based on stock photos from sketchdaily! I was trying out a more angular approach on the facial features, so that they feel more 3-dimensional. I tend to soften the features a lot so it was a challenge to kind of go against my nature! Hope you enjoy these!

Some more animals from the sketchbook! Honestly I found the chickens the most fun to draw! They are so round and fluffy! I hope to own some one day, when I have a larger backyard. Hope you like these!

I had hoped to post this a lot earlier, but for some reason my computer was having a really rough time rendering this process video! You guys voted for more real-time drawing videos and as a result, this one is over two hours long. For some reason that led to Premiere crashing constantly. BUT! I worked it out, so here it finally is: the full real-time process for the deer studies! If you find it too slow, you can speed it up in the player controls! Just click on the little gear button and adj...

As promised, some of my recent sketches from my sketchbook! I basically went back to some older sketches that I had made during a visit to the zoo, and revisited some of them, adding more definition and some more detailed studies alongside them with the help of photo reference. There’s also pics of how the sketches looked before I revisited them - when I was referencing animals from real life. I really struggle with that, so I hope to practice live drawing animals more in the future! Hope y...

Hey everyone! Apologies for fewer posts this week. It’s been chaotic with world events and news of my grandparents falling ill. I have a lot of sketches from my sketchbook to share, but I just need to photograph them and format the images! They’ll be coming up next week alongside some process videos for my digital art. In the meantime, here’s the finished version of my volcano piece! It was such a challenge to work on and I still want to maybe change some things or work a little more on...

Can you believe it? Another month has passed! I feel like time passes a lot quicker in these coronavirus times. Thanks so much for your support in helping me create paintings, sketches and studies this month! I am having so much fun drawing new things, and it's all thanks to your support. Here's how the month went for me:
ANIMAL STUDIES AND SKETCHES
Just like last month, I’m continuing with the animal sketches in my sketchbook! It’s become my favorite way to r...

After posting the rock and plant studies, I got a lot of questions about my process for them so I decided to put together a little step-by-step!
Using these steps really sped up my process for drawing things like this. Before I started using the lasso tool, drawing something like this was really cumbersome and took a lot of time because it’s hard to get all those details right with just a brush. By using the lasso tool, it’s just so much faster and easier. It’s not only a fa...

Hey guys! I'm all out of sketchbooks to make tours of and ready to make some new monthly video content. You guys overwhelmingly voted for mini-tutorials, so this is what I will make! Wow, I can’t believe I already completed the very last sketchbook tour!! Here’s the tour of my oldest sketchbook, from 2005-2007. It’s really different from my other sketchbooks and I feel like it shows a very different side of who I am as a person and as an artist. I hope it’ll give a new perspective on my artistic growth!
Some of the stuff referenced in the video:
• I talk about an animation that I made for the dutch television show 2 voor 12. You can...

My world feels like a tiny little bubble lately with this quarantine lifestyle! I’ve been spending a lot of time hanging out in my backyard, and thus came the inspiration to draw some of the plants that we have growing there. Our garden was nothing but sand a year ago, but now it’s really starting to bloom and come to life! Hope you like these studies - it's been fun breaking out of the character art to sketch 'props' like this.

Can’t believe I never drew these two together, they are basically like sisters in their look and style! Here’s a drawing of Candy Cane Laine and No Girl, two random characters I’ve been drawing since forever (more specifically, 2004). Here’s some older drawings of them, from the time I was first drawing these characters in a super low-res program called Oekaki:

Did some rock studies today! I feel like the visual language of rocks and mountains is the complete opposite of characters. Where I strive for curved, organic lines with characters, these kinds of forms are chunky, jagged and rough. It’s such a challenge! So I figured I should practice with some studies and try to expand my skillset a bit. Hope you like!

A while back I posted some different thumbnails for a painting with a vulcanic / sulfur rock theme! I got to working on the middle one and it’s a huge struggle because it’s so far outside of my comfort zone haha. I am usually someone who draws environments from studies and not from the imagination! Plus, creating compositions with a sense of space and detail distribution that fits a setting is some...

I once again asked my boyfriend what animal I should draw and he suggested the elephant shrew because of it’s weird little nose. Here’s my attempt at drawing them! Weirdly enough I find round animals harder to draw than animals with lots of muscle tone and long limbs. There’s just less to work with in terms of volumes. Gotta draw more chonks in the future and hone up my round animal drawing skills!

More animal sketches! I was taking requests from my boyfriend and the first thing he said was “that weird dog with super long legs.” We figured out what the official name was - turned out it’s the maned wolf - and I drew these studies based on google photo reference images. If you’ve never seen a photo of these animals before, you gotta look it up. They are so weird!!

Last week I watched the movie Call Me By Your Name (mainly because the amazing Sufjan Stevens wrote the soundtrack) and I really liked it, especially Timothee Chalamet’s acting. So I drew some sketches from screenshots of the movie. I used the lasso tool a lot, just like with the deer sketches (more info on how that works here). Basically I started with a pencil sketch, then used the lasso tool to block basic col...

Hey guys! Thanks so much for your feedback on my poll about video speed. Yesterday I posted both a sped-up and normal speed video for my sketching process of the wolves! I usually post faster timelapses, but was getting more and more requests for videos that weren’t sped up.
