Let's recap some Patron Q&A

We often get questions and thought it'd be great to share them with you...Along with our answers of course! These were sent in a while ago. Do you have questions for us? Send them in!! Let's get into the details!

Q. What's the true draft of the boat?

A. The boats draft is 4 feet. Before we purchased the boat the depth sounder was adjusted to read two feet less than true depth for some reason...So if it read 2, the actual depth was 4. So 4' is the draft!

Happy Birthday Captain!

There's nothing better than spending your birthday sailing downwind to Hope Town. Today we woke up and I made Jeremiah's favorite, French Toast, for breakfast. Then we weighed anchor, tossed out the head sail and shut down the engines for a slow sail averaging 4knots...Which we're on as I type this!

We're excited to explore this little area as we celebrate Jeremiah's Birthday! We're hoping to find some yummy pizza and pineapple upside down cake, but if all else fails then I'll just whip ...

Hanging in the Abacos

Good afternoon!

We're still at Green Turtle Cay waiting on weather but that's ok. It's been front after front since we've been here. Yesterday it was blowing around 20 with 25knt gusts occasionally. That's not a huge deal but when you need to sail around Whale Cay, it is.

So we wait...

The weather broke a bit today and there's slight chance we can go tomorrow or Saturday. If not, next week for sure as the winds are forecasted to lay down.

Yesterday we took ...

Fort Lauderdale to Green Turtle Cay, Bahamas

Hello from Green Turtle Cay!

After a stressful last minute repair on our Yacht Commander system (at the cost of $5500.00, more on that later), we've made our crossing and are now floating in a beautiful harbor in Green Turtle Cay, Bahamas!

We departed Fort Lauderdale at 2210 Monday evening, made our way to the 17th Street bridge and requested an opening. At 2230 the bridge opened and we passed through and out the inlet into the dark ocean...It was awesome!

The crossing was very cal...

We're holding at the hold short!

Of course, this isn't aviation but basically we're on hold for approximately 24 hours.

We departed the dock and within minutes started having issues with the starboard engine...It was constantly in reverse! No matter what setting we had it in. We went into our anchorage, anchored and Jeremiah dove into locating the problem. Turns out the the Yacht Controller system had a gear that sheered off. That gear is what selects the transmission in reverse, neutral or forward, it failed in reverse...

How did this happen???

We received a question from one of our Patrons, I thought it’d be a great topic to discuss here!

The question was geared towards how we’re able to do this…The planning process, financially, and simply making the leap to do it.

The process began just about two years before we bought the Lazy Gecko. We were in debt like most people and were on track to continue the same path if some drastic changes weren’t made. Jeremiah was coming up on his retirement from the Marine Corps a...

Happy Thanksgiving!

We hope you’re waking up to a lovely day that looks to be full of relaxing and celebration! So far our Thanksgiving looks a little like this…Jeremiah got going at around 0600. He started prepping the boat to continue south, we pulled the anchor up at 0700. We had been anchored just outside of Merritt Island where we had a very relaxing night filled with a beautiful sunset, pretty birds and a game night with the kids. Right now we’re motoring south at about 7knts, we plan to travel just abo...

Come with us, in real time!

Tomorrow we plan to depart and start our journey south!

Jessica and Trevor have joined us for the Thanksgiving break and we plan to toss the dock lines away tomorrow morning and head towards our crossing point to the Bahamas. If we can get a decent window, we'll cross with them aboard. If not, we'll have some fun during their 10 days here and then cross once a window presents itself!

As of now the winds are out of the North until Thursday when they switch to the East and then...

Thank you so much for being a part of this adventure!!

To carry or not to carry...

Well that decision is completely up to each individual! We've obviously shown that we feel it's worth the extra energy and effort to have protection in the form of weapons onboard. This post is about how we've decided to store a weapon.

Most are aware of the importance to have some form of security for a weapon in a household. How to balance security with accessibly is usually an issue up for conversation. We knew our old Pelican case wasn’t a good fit for Calypso after previous experience w...

FOUR seasons of LGS Vimeo footage!!

Have you viewed the Vimeo versions to all of our YouTube videos? Vimeo? What's that?!

We've actually received a lot of questions about it recently so here's the info! The Vimeo versions of our episodes are like our YouTube episodes but with a ton of more footage showing us in a more relaxed, fun and free manner. It's Lazy Gecko Sailing for adults! The videos are just as edited, not just a bunch of more footage that would make things boring. We honesty think they're even more enjoyable than the...

The 2019 Lazy Gecko Sailing Calendar! Although, it's really just all me lol...Jeremiah wasn't in the modeling mood, I guess haha!

When you have Dinghy problems...

We've recently had some issues with the dinghy and this time it isn’t a mechanical issue. Paperwork can be just as much of a pain to deal with, that's exactly what we have here.

John purchased a brand new AB dinghy and 20HP Yamaha outboard just before we started working on our deal to purchase the boat, which was great! Who wouldn’t love a new dinghy. The new dinghy is lighter which is great. The last center console was just too heavy. So the issue?

When John went to regi...
