Lots of HD photos as usual

You can now enjoy this big chungus properly. There's always something about these photos that feels... I don't know, rewarding I guess. Sometimes there are days where I'm just not feeling it, I don't like the video editing, I think the model looks like crap or whatever, but taking proper pictures always lifts up my mood 😁

Well, this wasn't the best idea!

Creating stowage after the model is finished is not a great idea at all my friends, especially when you want to work efficiently! Oh how naive I was thinking it can be all done in one day... somehow I forgot that we need to wait for each layer to dry! 

So before I proceed with the final layer of weathering and implement them with the model, I just need to let it all sit at least overnight. In the meantime I'll maybe edit the video about fir branches. At first I wanted to put it all...

There's no going back now, the fir branches are glued in place 😁 I was so nervous in the morning when I was starting to work on them - are they gonna look too artificial? Out of place? Not fit the model at all? Well, I've put a lot of effort into them and I think it was worth the entire day!

Also, today marks the end of the Jagdtiger weathering stage! Not sure if it lives up to the hype, I kinda didn't want to overdo anything and I was also quite lazy towards the end, but pretty much everything is there - more earth tones added around the tank including the tracks, some subtle wet stains and water effects, grease, smoke residue and also polished metal edges. How I spent the weekend

Hello my friends, sorry for dropping off the face of the earth over the weekend! The weather turned beautiful, it was cold but sunny, so I spent most of it in the middle of nowhere basically😆To make the most of the time, I was running the 3D printer every day. First of all I printed some German helmets and grenades which I found on Thingiverse. I might hang a couple of them on the Jagdtiger because they look pretty nice! We're almost there!

My friends, tracks are in place! They were weathered with the same paints as the JT. This time I didn't apply any Tamiya predusting on the blackened surface and went straight ahead with small amounts of Textured Earth followed with a very heavy wash of Ammo Earth + Dry Earth mix and while this was still wet I added some random brushed stains of Loose Ground. Then I had to leave this to dry before proceeding with heavy speckling of both colors. Again, leaving it to dry, this time I accelerated...

... tracks! Because the earth tones are (mostly) done. I'll be tweaking them further after the tracks are in place along with all the other finishing steps like wet stains, grease effects, smoke, etc. So what we have here are just 3 enamel paints - Ammo Earth (the standard enamel paint), Dry Earth and Loose Ground (from the Splashes range). My friends, it's time for some weathering! The weather outside is disgusting, so it's the best time for modelling, and yesterday I was tested negative in our country-wide Covid testing. 

So, as usual I started with some textured earth on the lower portions. This time I kept it really subtle because I don't want the model to look extremely muddy (I'm keeping that for the next model 😁)

Huge load of HD pictures

My friends, I think only HD pictures make you appreciate all the chipping effects 😁

These were still shot on the old camera, because I haven't spent too much time learning how to work with the new one, but from what I tried, the old Nikon D5100 shoots way better pictures than the Canon EOS M50. At least as far as these studio "product" photos go. Maybe DSLR vs mirrorless still has some advantages? Or I just probably have to learn how to operate the Canon properly 😁

New toys

Another post about new goodies 😁 

First and foremost, I bought a Canon EOS M50 which I'll be using instead of the old Nikon D5100. It can film in 4K, has some basic stabilization, also shoots at 50fps in 1080p, has amazing autofocus since it has no mirror, the white balance can be dialled perfectly, and the colors are amazing. I was able to buy it in this "vlogger kit" package with Rode mic, sd card and gorilla pod, so we might have more vlogs and podcasts in the future 😊😊...

And we're finally ready for earth tones!

Everything is done my friends, now it's time to make a video and then start with proper weathering 😁I'm gonna start with textured mud on the lower half and loose debris on the horizontal surfaces. I have one photo of a JT roof showing a lot of dried grass collected in corners, so I guess it'll be something along those lines - grass, dirt, natural scatter. 

Also, the spare tracks are only base coated with grey and treated with some rust washes and speckling. I'll finish their app...

Big day

My friends, today I kicked the propeller, as we say here, and done a ton of work 🥱

Rust tones done all around the tank, now it looks like proper metal, but of course, as usual, a lot of them are going to get toned down with earth effects.

Shell impacts are also painted, first the crater was brushed with a medium grey acrylic, the outside with a black brown oil paint, and then chipping was added around it followed by rust washes.

Cheeps are done! 😁 I'm so sorry for taking so long, but this is a big model, and it takes time. 

But things need to change, at least for a little bit. I chipped the lower half of the model with VMS reverse chipping paints and next time I'm gonna use them on the entire model. I finally have a decent grip on how they perform and what to expect from them, and they really can make the process a lot faster and also easier if anyone isn't confident with brush painting chips.

The chipping process is progressing steadily my friends. Sorry for not updating you yesterday, I just don't want to bombard you with "look, another plate done" posts, so instead here are two of the busiest areas on the model done. Luckily, all that's left is the left side of the hull, the roof and rear of the fighting compartment. And of course wheels which I'm gonna treat mostly with VMS reverse chipping.

First layer of chipping

My friends, it's been another cold and gloomy weekend, which meant more modelling. Well, not entirely. You see, I'm quite sensitive to season changes, especially when summer turns into autumn, which leads to me constantly feeling tired and sore. I remember as a kid, I would always get sick at the end of September. Always 🤒 So I stocked up on vitamins and magnesium and damn, does it do wonders! This is how oil paints can change the model my friends, when you compare these with the previous batch, the results are like two different models! But then again that's to be expected when you pretty much repaint the whole model with oils. 

The model was so freaking dusty for some reason that I spent most of the time cleaning the dust in post processing because I haven't even noticed it before. Gotta give it a good rub with a large brush before proceeding further! 

Finally, oils are done!

My friends, this step took way longer than I expected. Adding all these fake lights and shadows, basically color modulation with oil paints, can be so tedious, and to be honest, quite boring after several hours! But hey, at least it's done and the model is ready for chipping. As always, some of it will get toned down with further techniques, so I made it more obvious in some places.

It's that hard to spot technique again

My friends, next step was blending oil dots. It's one of those "invisible" steps again, because I kinda prefer to keep it rather subtle, because it's easy to change the tone of the model too much if you're not careful. It's also one of the fastest techniques to completely nullify your post shading or distressing, hence why I haven't used it on the T-90, Sherman or Crusader. My friends, it's been a rainy Sunday, so it was the perfect time for some quality bench time. The result is a finished pinwash, which I in a shocking turn of events didn't perform with the same enamel Wash for German Dark Yellow like usual 😆 This time I decided to go with oils, a Dark Mud Oilbrusher diluted with white spirit.
