RUINS (Vienna Ditto/The May collab) - coming this month

Helloooooo Patrons,

I can't believe we've hit September already. I'm loving the last of the summer sun, I've still been going up the downs nearly every morning, mushroom picking and foraging my way through the month.

It's still feeling all a-bit-too-quiet and I'm getting itchy for a gig. It's loo...

SISTER SISTER - Official "thing"

Hey there lovely patrons,

I can honestly say this is one of the most interesting and rewarding projects I've ever worked on.

And it's only just begun...

I've been building drum kits out of recorded household noises, layering up vocals, samples, instruments and absorbing a whole bunch of ideas from 4 other female musicians across the globe and back. Garry and myself have been busily mixing and tweaking and editing away, long hours into the night.

We might ha...

RIBBONS / LEGS BROKEN (demos)

Dearest patrons,

It was wonderful to see you on the webcast last night! Thank you again for joining me. I am currently in the process of editing the video so the sound fits and then any of you who missed it can watch again... I am adding song titles too and making it look fancy.

In the meantime, as promised, here are two brand new songs. These are demos, so very stripped back and rough around the edges, but I hope you like them. The full production versions will be huge b...

Official "thing" - tonight's webcast + chat

Hello you wonderful creatures,

This month I've decided to perform (god help me) as many new songs as possible from my upcoming solo record with the Chemical Perils... plus a new collaboration song... plus a new Birdeatsbaby song... plus a couple from Feast of Hammers... plus some covers... and maybe something in Russian... on my accordion. Oh dear.

If that wasn't ...

ALKONOST - Theme and Variations

Dearest Patrons,

So we have arrived at the end of another month.

The world is still breathing and starting to move forwards... our government tells us from July that we can open up business as normal again. I'm skeptical and anxious for the future but also hopeful.

I'm still remaining home most of the time, stuck to the piano and therefore writing, writing, writing. The music never stops coming and for that I'm very grateful.

ALKONOST Themes #1 + #2 - Official "Thing"

Dear Patrons,

Attached is the main "theme" and the first "variation" for this month's official thing

The full album will be out later tonight, after my webcast (all 6 variations) for the $3+ tiers.

The theme comes from Rachmaninov's Serenade in Db major which I am currently studying (and failing to play, ha).

If you listen to the first 5 notes, a...

WHAT WILL THE NEIGHBOURS SAY NOW?

Hello wonderful patrons,

The official "thing" is finally here!

I'm very happy to announce that my collaboration with Steve Johnson from IDLE BONES was a complete and utter success and we have a 5 track EP for your hungry ears.

It's not without it's stories...

In here we have a song about road-rage, a J-Pop anthem about being in love with a supermarket worker, a spoken word piece about narcissism, a sonnet for a garden overgrown with toxic weeds and a d...

THE WEEDS

Good evening lovely patrons,

Hope you're gearing up for a good weekend... it is HOT in the UK.

I absolutely love it.

I am a cold, cold, skinny, pale, person with bad circulation who wears jumpers in the summer. One day I'll move to the desert. This kind of weather just makes me feel like doing things. New things, tidying up, decorating, sorting, exploring and... erm, recently, a bit of gardening.

Usually plants just wither and die in my garden, but I've been spending s...

HTWC - The official documentary is released!

My dearest and faithful patrons,

Another month of weirdness has come and gone. Lockdown is becoming normality and I’m scared of it being over and simultaneously can’t wait for it to end… it’s a strange feeling.

It’s been very up and down, I have to say. I know some of you are thriving and some are not, but one thing is for sure, we are very happy to still be making music, videos and art for you lovely people. It’s actually been a really positive thin...

Tonight's broadcast will go out at 8pm (UK time)... I'm going to use Zoom because it's the best for video communication, and it'll mean we can get two different camera angles (one for the piano hands, and one for my face).

This also means I'll be able to see/hear you too, (only if you want!) and we can chat afterwards.

I'll record the whole session too for those who miss out so don't worry if you can't make it!

MARCH 2020 - A Lockdown Survival Kit from Birdeatsbaby

Dear Patrons,

Well. It’s certainly been an eventful month, hasn’t it?

I think it’s safe to say that right this minute, we are more grateful than we have ever been for your support!

The music industry has taken a massive blow over the last two weeks - especially the independent groups. Everyone’s tours and festivals have been cancelled, and most of us are in a very uncertain state. We’ve definitely felt it in BEB camp, but we’re making the best of the...

DARREN'S SONG / DEAR DR BENTLEY

Hey guys... instead of doing a blog I made a short video explanation for these songs, and I wanted to say "hello" too.

Hope you enjoy, take something from them and please stay in touch - times are very weird and while under lockdown, it just means I want to connect to other people more than normal.

Thank you for supporting Birdeatsbaby and our many musical-forms during this time, it's more important than ever, so, really, thank you ❤️

Now have some songs... and the...

HIMAAR MIYET

Hello fellow hermits!

How is everyone coping under lockdown?

Would you like a song? It’s even got a catchy sing-along chorus!

I don’t know if you remember but a couple of weeks ago I asked everyone to send me their stories, thoughts, inspirations and emotions to put into songs. Well, we’ve managed to complete FOUR of your “songs for patrons” so far. It’s turning into a very nice EP.

I’m still working on the other three but thought this one was...

LOU'S SONG / PART OF THE FAMILY (demo versions)

Hello $3+ patrons,

As an extra this month I'm releasing two more songs from the Chemical Perils:

"Lou's Song" - if you watched my vlog you'll know this song is about a friend of mine and Garry's. She died in 2015, and we dedicated our album TANTA FURIA to her. This song has been around for years but it was a bit too painful to complete for a while. This song is a goodbye letter to her.

"Part of the Family" - this is a bit of fun, a story abo...

HOW THE WORLD CONSPIRED - PART ONE

Dearest Patreons,

Happy weekend!

Hope you've had a good February. It's been raining and stormy in the UK, perfect for staying in, playing piano and making films ;)

This month we bring you our official thing - the first half of a new documentary, "How The World Conspired", a deep insight into how/why we made our last album.

This first part of the film is mostly narrated by me, explaining the concept, art, tracks and inspiration. The second part wi...

FEBRUARY "THINGS"

Hello my darling patrons,

As you can see I’ve been silent for a couple of weeks, I’ve been taking a quick birthday break in Montenegro where me and Garry have been exploring the countryside, visiting an animal sanctuary and generally soaking up the slavic culture. I can’t say I’ll miss the grappa but being based at the foot of a mountain was pretty special. My head has been reset, and I’m feeling pretty inspired for the coming year…

THE PUTRID BRINE / GOLIATH - new songs

Hello lovely patrons,

Happy Friday!

I'm kicking away the January blues by releasing some much needed music.

This month's official thing is two brand new songs for my side-project "Mishkin Fitzgerald and The Chemical Perils" (which is basically Birdeatsbaby with more klezmer).

It's a double A-side, titled The Putrid Brine (a song about revelling in filth) and Goliath (a bittersweet poem sung as a duet).

It's quite different...
