BENEATH THE TOMBS - A Classical/Experimental EP with Kat Downs

Dearest Patrons,

As you know back in August I spent a couple of weeks with my good friend and fellow piano teacher/performer Kat Downs. 

We wrote another EP, this time called "Beneath The Tombs".

It's quite experimental and strange. This time around we had some very varied ideas and decided to keep it mostly instrumental and focus on our musicianship as pianists.

You can decide for yourselves what you think! It's a strange record but we enjoyed making it ...

Mishkin here, very, very tired after an 8 hour car drive down from Mossley (near Manchester) where we played a birthday party gig. It was raucous, rowdy and fun. Wish you could have all been there! Sorry we couldn't stream it, the PA was quite limited and we nearly blew the speakers, ha.

So the song "Ropes" was born a long time ago.

It is finally ready for your ears.

Originally this was going to be a piano/vocal/string ballad. It was going to be very empty, very stripped back and very harrowing.

Then (thanks to Hana) I was listening a lot to Lana Del Ray's Ultraviolence, especially the song "Shades of Cool" which I became quite obsessed with. I love the warmth and sadness, it's completely tormented without it being overkill, and I think she is...

The album is complete.

Not only complete, but mastered beautifully by Bob Macciochi (an absolute whizz and long-time friend of BEB). 

It finally sounds balanced, and shiny, and fits together perfectly with lovely cross-fades and tiny, fragile moments that can be heard against mighty walls of noise.

Hello my gorgeous darling Patrons...

I've had a crazy month of touring, recording and working like a hummingbird on speed. I've also been sick (again ffs) so apologies for the mumbly/snotty voice on the documentary, I still think this came out pretty good.
