74560: Portra 800 | April 2024

That roll of Portra I mentioned from St Ninian's yesterday? Well, here it is. Gulabi work fast.

I recorded some environmental audio and put a wee video together. It was windy as all hell so I didn't get as much audio as I would have liked, so had to kill a few photos from the video - but you get them all.

You can watch the YouTube video here.

Normally I rattle through film at a decent pace. Nothing that I'd consider wasteful, afterall I'm shooting because I enjoy it, but March in particular was notably lacking on the film front, but that's because of this bloody film. It really held me up.

A friend gifted me a couple rolls of it as I was leaving my job, and I excitedly loaded on in right away. The following day, we had incredible weather. But after that... not so much. And it became way difficult to shoot much at all given t...

St. Ninian's Fife Earth Project

We jumped in the car and tore up the M90 to St Ninian's Fife Earth Project this morning. This was an unexpected find while doom scrolling TikTok one day.

On the drive, I did some token research.

American Artist, Charles Jencks, was commissioned by local developers to turn the 930 acre site into the largest piece of artwork in Scotland. During the process though, Scottish Coal, the land owners went bust and the project was put on hold.

People are free to come and go as they p...

The Devil's Pulpit.

When I worked in the camera shop, a couple of american tourists came in. They were stuck, as they'd just landed in the country and the camera they bought for their travel was dead on arrival. They wanted it repairing, except we didn't do repairs. I offered to take a look on the offchance I could fix it.

It became immediately apparant that I could not.

The camera itself was some cheap plastic point and shoot, and I told them to...

Shooting stars with M10-R.

I'm not very well equiped for taking photographs of stars, I use a single camera and a tripod and don't have any fancy star tracking gear. But every now and then I like to just point my camera up and make some exposures and see if I get anything interesting.

Looking online there's a basic formula to figure out maximum exposure time for shooting the night sky with a full frame camera, and that's 500/35 (35 being lens focal length, if it were 50mm it'd be 500/50 etc.). If using a crop se...

FILM: Camera??? + AGFA 200

Turns out that one of the rolls I developed the other week was an oldie from around 5/6 years ago, not long after I moved to Glasgow. I was working in Cathouse at the time as a party photographer and would occasionally take in a film camera to fuck about with.

I can only guess that the camera *may* be a Canon AE-1 and some cheapo flash unit but I could be wrong. The film was a 24 exposure, and a few didn't expose due to flash misfires so I've left them out.

It's wild seeing party...

FILM: Leica M6 + Fuji Superia 400

I developed another few rolls of film the other week, but left them at my pals to dry. Only just got them dropped off this eve, but making my way through scanning them. No idea whats on them, so seeing as I go.

Here's the most part of a 36 exp. roll of Superia 400, but I've ommited a few of the 'doubles'.

Sometimes when scanning I see a photo, like the woman walking by the motorway, and think "why did I take that?", I don't even remember what was going on or taking it. Strange.<...

Hog Wyld - 143POP! (unreleased video)

Somewhere between receiving the masters back and releasing the album we were deciding on the first single to release to promote it. At the time I had just had an eye test and discovered I needed glasses, but the biggest take away from the test was that I wanted to use a snellen chart in a lyric video. Any decent examples I could find were low resolution online, and so instead I pooled a few together as references and constructed my own in photoshop.

With the lyrics placed on the video,...

Photos with Leica M6 + Neopan 1600 (complete roll)

Here's the scans from Balloch the other day. Quite pleased with the metering in general, I screwed a few up but that was on me rather than the camera!

Afternoon in Balloch

Headed to Balloch today. I took the M6 specifically to rattle through a roll of Neopan 1600 for the YouTube channel. I have no idea if the photos I've taken are actually any good or not as they need developing, but I very much took photos for the sake of taking photos - not being precious about it. I feel like I *need* to do something, but I don't know what. Anyway, forcing it is a good way to eventually get something meaningful to me, trying not to overthink things.

I also took the M10...

Restored negatives

As I make my way through my great uncles archive, I'm keeping taking a few out of each scanned batch that I particularly like. This is so I can restore them a little, and by removing some of the blemishes that have occured over decades of being improperly stored I can get a bit more of a feel of how they may have been presented.

I'm making prints of my favourites as I go, and one day I hope I'll have enough to put a wee photo book together.

Here's a few examples of photos I've lig...

James C. Simpson 35mm Negatives: "Dalia, North Scotland"

I found some negatives wrapped in makeshift paper holders with notes scribbled on them from either my great uncle or my grandad - I'm unsure which as their handwriting is very similar.

This is a collection titled 'Dalia, North Scotland'. No date, but I'm assuming 50's.

A couple of home town projects...

I've packed my bag and headed south to Scarborough for a week, as a couple of close pals are getting married and me and Bryan are handling photography duties for them. Now, that's on Saturday, but I've got a few days eitherside of that to see family etc. I packed a few extra rolls of film since I've not given my M6 a run out in way too long, and thought it would be nice to get out and shoot some film of my childhood home.

I've brought some neopan for my parents area, they live in a vill...

Hospital

Went for a walk around Pollokpark. 20 minutes into the walk I got stung hard on my ankle. It was a wasp. Having not being stung by anything like this since I was a wee kid, I was suprised at just how much it hurt. I walked it off, thought little of it. Robyn inspected the sting and I took a photo as a reference just incase it got worse.

We joked that it's a good job I wasn't allergic.

We got back to the car about 20 minutes later, and I started scratching unlike anything I've expe...

Been a little quiet on here the past couple of weeks, I've been deep diving into some archive drives I've got pooling together tons of photos. In a few days, it'll mark a year with the Leica Q2 so I'm putting together a wee YouTube video looking back at a year with it and how it's been to use, why it's my daily carry etc. Hopefully people will find it interesting!

Anyway, here's a selection of photos from a walk we all went on the other day to Loch Ard Forest. Loch Ard is by far my fav...

Hog Wyld | WYLD [debut album]

WYLD, the debut album from HOG WYLD - lone purveyors of SwaggerPop(TM) - is finally here.

Forged in the face of 18 months of isolation and global despair, the ten track LP is a techni-coloured explosion of synth-tinged swinging classics; an unabashed celebration of both life and death. A fusion of fuzzy 90s inspired guitars and electronic pop madness.

Get your piece of musical history by buying one of the beautiful limited edition double gatefold vinyl LPs. Or eh, just listen ...

Cornershop.

Went t' shop for snacks, some guy was like "I wouldn't go in there". I waited, sounds of smashing and screaming. A unhappy customer going wild at the owner. She comes out, flings a four pack of IRN BRU at the shop and it sprayed all over a baby in a pram. She goes away, I go in.

As soon as the door closes behind me I start browsing, and then there's a right racket. She's back, and screaming. Punching the shop. Actually punching it. With her firsts. A shop. The owner locks the door, I'm ...

Alice (Patreon)

Here's the full selection of the photos with Alice yesterday.

Typically when hanging out with people I tend to walk about for a chunk of the day with them, taking photos as we go in various spots that catch our eye - though we didn't really get chance to do that as we were mostly just having a good catch up! So, these photos aren't as varied as I'd like and in fact we probably only spent about 10 minutes taking photos.

There's a couple that I like here though, the first being this...

Star Gazing above Paisley

Last night we drove to the braes car park looking over Paisley and Glasgow, we got there just after the sun had set and the intention was to wait around and watch the meteor shower.  But the glow from the city below, and everyone's headlights in the car park made it seem unlikely we'd spot anything at all so instead we drove round to a wee quiet place a couple of minutes away where we normally let the dogs out for a run. There was much less people there, too. Perfect.

I'd taken th...
