Usually when I do my drawings, I go through around 3-5 sketch passes before lining. I feel like those are....a lot of sketches. It's like I am never definite with my lines and that I need to undergo multiple roughs before it makes sense for me to line. This becomes more so when I'm drawing dynamic stuff.
Well this time, I tried drawing these with 1-2 passes. It turns out I tend to vary my proportions and shapes more at the expense of construction and form, at least when I did these sketches. R...

Hey everyone! I'd like to say thank you so much again for the support!
I added a new sketch request tier! I was thinking the other day about refining how I translate designs into my current style and I thought this would be a neat way to do it!
So if you want me to draw any character you'd like, this tier gets you two sketch requests for the month to be included in sketch pages. Though given my current workload, I could only do a few at a time, sadly! Perhaps somewhere d...

Oh jeeze I got a bit excited and skipped to coloring. Don't be like me and actually do this, looking back at this, i need to fix things!
I'm just gonna (continue to try to) love the process for this one.

Working on these studies for the past weeks, i realized that my observational drawing can use some work. I can even say it’s total garbage now haha. This is why I’ve decided to do portrait studies in this session.
What i would do was that i would draw from a reference I’ve picked. After which, i would duplicate my initial sketch and then overlay it over the reference photo. This way, I can see how off my drawings are. Lastly, I would trace over the photo to see how it would look l...

Just like hands, feet are tricky as well. While I feel that they can get less expressive compared to hands, they don't get as much attention so they're less familiar to me.
Given that, I decided to look back into learning how to construct them. The basic shapes that make the foot are harder to grasp for me compared to hands, but I've managed to create a certain construction technique that seems to work for me. I divide the foot into 2 parts: the body, and the ankle. The rest of the parts...

Update on this thing I've been slowly working on on and off! I'm basically going in blind with this and just winging a bunch of things. Gee animation is hard!? There are so many things to keep track of it's making me dizzy a bit! It's like combining everything you know about drawing!
I should resume studies very soon as well as getting out that new tutorial this month!

A neat way to keep the posing of busts interesting is to switch up the perspective while also making the head and chest face different directions and angles.
I'll be getting back to my studies again soon! Just got caught up with some projects!

I think I should post my WIPs here? Anyway, I have limited knowledge in animation but I want to try my hand at it again from roughs up until compositing. I'll have to give this a second rough pass.
Let's see where this will go!

Some more hands! I wanted to try out some tricky poses that look awkward when drawn. I tried pushing the arcs, but I don't think I'm quite there yet.

Hands are difficult!!! I think that once you've figured out how to break it down into parts, it becomes easier. Here's me reviewing how I construct and draw parts of the hand as well as the stuff I keep in mind when drawing them. It's all about the ARCS yo!
Gonna work on more hand studies for the next one!

Hey!! It's been a month already since I launched this thing and I would like to say my sincerest of thanks to those who have pledged to this Patreon. I hope you have been learning from the stuff I've been doing for the past month!
I hope this stuff hasn't come off as boring but rest assured that I will be getting to more interesting stuff as I get my footing with the fundamental stuff.
I also have a tutorial in the works so hopefully it would be out in the coming weeks.
Again, than...

On to reviewing arms!! This one has more notes than usual!
Just when I thought I had this part of the body down in terms of memory (mostly), I finally learned how the muscles go in the forearm! Guess I learned something new today!
Memorizing the muscles can be a bit overwhelming, but it helps to keep in mind of the major muscles (especially the ones that contribute to the overall form of the body part). In this case, there are only 5! The deltoid, the biceps, the ...

Some more additional torso sketches to see how I fare with them. It turns out that I feel more confident with my female torsos now and just torsos in general! I believe I can attribute it to how I would construct the hip and waist area before.
I suppose the next step is to learn how to push and add variety to my female proportions. At the moment it's easier for me to vary male proportions because I can just change up the shapes and positions of muscle parts. Knowing the placements and shapes o...

Wrapping this up now with some final reviewing. I barely used references for these drawings and you can see how I do my construction when drawing torsos. It's funny that before I found it easier to draw female figures over male, but now it looks like it's the other way around. I feel like you can mask incorrect proportions and anatomy with the proper knowledge in muscular structures.
To end this portion, I wanted to try throwing the stuff I learned out the window by pushing the proportions. Af...

A bit of a late post but here we are!!
I realized that doing these studies takes me a while to do! I find myself trying to absorb as info as I can.
Anyhow, I'm almost wrapping this portion up. I'll most likely do a "review" study where I draw things from memory kinda like that one drawing showing the prominent bones and landmarks when drawing a female torso. At this point, that drawing basically shows what I keep in mind when I draw female torsos.
I also drew over the sketches show...

Well, these were supposed to be anatomy studies but I ended up with gesture studies. I got my references this time from Bodies in Motion (link is below!) and since I didn't have a subscription, the images were somewhat low resolution so I couldn't study the anatomy up close. I ended up just figuring out the anatomical landmarks when looking at the reference photos.
Regardless, I'm continuing to study twisting and turning torsos and how the hip is positioned and connected...

Refreshing some memory on how the muscles of the legs go. A good tip to construct legs is to draw in the sartorius muscle (the long muscle that extends from the hip to the knee. I feel it helps a lot in defining the contour of the leg.

Let's have a different sort of post this time! I was going through some old work and stumbled across old fan art I did of Dota 2 characters. For a strange reason, I wanted to draw them again and I ended up drawing 3 different characters today during my breaks.
While I was doing these, I took this opportunity to reflect about how I convert and simplify the designs of existing characters into my style.

Some more studies on female torsos and jeepers I still find myself stumped.
I managed to study from this album on Facebook which featured women doing action poses. I wanted to see how female torsos work when they're hunched and twisting as well as being in perspective. Finding the right contour for the is still a challenge for me.
Adding that hip shape helped a bit, but I feel I could use more studies of this. I'll start working on legs/feet this week but I'm going to focus more on...

Continuing to mindlessly sketch to figure out how I can develop my shape language. Still trying to focus on the shapes without relying too much on construction.
I have a long ways to go in terms of neatness but at least from what I\ve noticed when trying to draw with as few lines as possible--is that the drawing comes off as "disjointed" to me (see lowest left drawing). I believe that sort of drawing requires a focused and mindful way of thinking.
Perhaps after my anatomy studies ...

I did a quick demo the other day to my school org about using shapes in designing characters. I cleaned these designs up for the sake of this (small) tutorial.
Essentially, I chose certain shapes (in this case, trapezoids and ovals) and distributed them throughout the designs. I used this way of design thinking in the designing of a group of characters.
Other than just using similar color schemes, props, and uniforms, I believe using this tactic helps solidify the designs of a group of c...

Oh geeze I'm rusty! This took me quite some time to work on. I realized that I still have some troubles joining the torso and the hip so I wanted to focus on that for the most part of these studies.
Compared to male torsos, instead of focusing on shapes (of the muscular structure), I feel that getting female torsos right lies in getting the correct contours. I've divided the sides of the torso into 4 sections. Usually, I'd simplify this contour when I draw with my usual style, but keepin...

Heading towards torsos now! I started off reviewing my knowledge on the locations of the major muscles for the front and back torso. Looks like I more or less had it down but I still decided to review again. Though the back muscles are somewhat tricky for me, still! There's still a bunch to learn, I feel!
It helps to remember the shapes of the major muscles. Once you have that down, you'll learn how to place and move them around when drawing our torsos!
Next up are female tors...

Not really a study but more of some self-reflection-sketches (??). Sketch thoughts maybe??
I'm trying to process the way I compose my drawings and hopefully I can use that info to figure out how to further push my stuff forward.
I get a lot of feedback that my art comes off as dynamic. As visualized here, I realized that I keep arcs in mind whenever I draw things. I feel like I'm not quite there yet in terms of dynamism. Perhaps I need to study other artists whose...

Expanded a bit and wanted to focus on things I kinda noticed in my drawings: my faces sometimes come off as flat, especially the eyes.
Apparently, a technique to resolve this is to match the corners of each eye to the contour of the face, which I sometimes forget to do. I'll make sure to keep more of that in mind when I draw/sketch!
I also tried memorizing how to draw ears again because the form of it eludes me sometimes. I tried applying the classic fish hook + letter Y

The head studies continue and boy, I realized they're a bit tricky to nail. Going through Uldis' book, they divided the head mass into two parts: a cylinder for the face, and an egg for the skull. Actually it's three parts if you include the neck (but that's just another cylinder).
Previously, I'd used to think to think of the head as a cube in 3D space (and even before that, just a circle) but I didn't quite nail it as seen here. But once I've started a...

Kicking this week off with basic head studies! I've started off with going back to learning how the skull is constructed. Doing this made me realize that I usually construct the head with a circle. I need to keep in mind that a more accurate shape would be an oval or like an egg!
I also squeezed some neck/upper trapezius muscle studies! The more prominent muscles of that area are the pink and red ones.
Anyhow, that's it! Will continue this more over the next few days!
