This week we have five magic polearms for use in your campaign. Polearms don't see a great deal of love these days, and the lack of magical weapons of this sort is a shame.
1. Blinding Flame Halberd - Flames so hot they can blind your opponent.
2. Earth Pike - Send a line of jagged rocks out to knock your target down.
3. Nagamaki of Cleaving - A katana style blade affixed to a 2-foot long handle. With your wide sweeping arc attacks, you can slice thro...

This week is about death and the ones who guide us through it. -Stephen
This week I am showing off the psychons! These celestials can show up in pretty much any setting so long as you have some psychopomps, meaning you have a god of the dead who ushers spirits to their afterlife. A lot of people die, a single god can't be expected to deal with everyone as well as their other duties like being a god, so they have helpers.
The term Psychopomp refers to any creature/god/powe...

One of the original low-level monsters to be slaughtered in the ancient dungeon delves of old, the Gnoll has been through a lot. While other monstrous humanoids, like the goblins, hobgoblins, kobolds, and orcs, have all gotten a chance to be loved (somewhat) the Gnoll is just kind of… there....

I wanted to do something a little different this week and reach back to the earlier editions when creating the magic items. In1st and 2nd editions, magic items that didn't fit into a clear cut group weren't just thrown in the wondrous items section. Each type of object had its category, which I've always thought was cool. I think it led to each strange, non-conformist item to have more than just one of it, even though some of the items, such as the abacus, probably shouldn't have any.
One ...

We are exploring the Inner Planes this week with some new elementals to get added into your game. Not only are there 7 new stat blocks (and you could technically create 6 more based on the information provided) but there is a lot of information about getting around the Inner Planes!
Information is provided on how to hire a guide, and how much they cost. The benefits ...

As a tie-in to the last Eberron Dragonmarked House post, I have created the first of what I hope will be a few new Elemental Airships.
House Lyrandar has the technology to bind an elemental to an airship, but since the Last War they stop building airships meant for combat. Since that's no fun for all you murder hobo players out there, I proudly to introduce the Wind Rider attack ship.
A small but fast vessel, the Wind Rider his the X-wing fighter of House Lyra...

In our last Deep Dive, we discussed the Raven Queen and one of the pieces of her lore touched on the Shadar-Kai. These poor creatures are first introduced in 3rd edition and go through an identity crisis throughout the subsequent editions. In the 3rd edition, they are a race of fey creatures, and life seems pretty good, even if they are stuck in the Plane of Shadow. In the 4th edition, the lore gets a major overhaul, and these descendants of humans have been banished to the Shadowfell, which ...

Wands have always seemed a little silly to me, especially when battling a fearsome creature in D&D. My image of a wand is rooted in the old movies and cartoons of the late 20th century, where a little gold stick with a star on the top is wielded by a small fey like creature or Glenda the Good Witch.
And then came Harry Potter.
Now, wands are no longer for pixies and fairy godmothers, but weapons of mass destruction for angry teenagers.
This week we have four new ...

This week, we are mixing it up a bit and looking at the history of another famous character in Dungeons & Dragons - the Raven Queen. Initially, it seems like a short but exciting topic, and while it certainly was interesting, it was anything but quick. The Queen of Shadows was first introduced in 4e and lived on in 5th edition, and while information may seem sparse, there is quite a great deal of lore to be found in various publications. Hunting down references to th...

The Dryad originates as a tree spirit from Greek mythology and would inhabit trees and forests. These creatures kept to themselves and avoided contact with most other beings. While they may not have worshiped the Greek goddess Artemis, they could often be found with her and are described as friends.
Dryads is often just a generic word for a tree-spirit nymph, there are several more specific dryads like the daphnaie, epimelides hamadryad, and the meliae. Each of these ...
