I told you there aren't enough dragons... there can never be enough dragons.... - Stephen
This week I decided to create a horrifying creature that one might find in the bottom of the ocean, it's body morphed and changed by the strange pressures and life of the dark ocean. This... cute? horrifying?... dragons live in the deepest parts of the ocean and stay far away from the surface world as the light is too bright.
Occasionally they will swim closer to the surface, a...

This week we are offering a couple of new options outside the typical Deep Dive. Also, you'll be able to choose a Rewind article or a Quest Spell article.
Rewinds focus on spells or magic items from previous editions that people may not know about. These creations were dropped from the game for one reason or another, and we look into why they didn't make the cut. We even convert some of the more interesting ones to the 5th edition for you to use in your campaigns.
Quest Spells a...

Every time we do a deep dive into a character class, we swear we will never do another. It's a labor of love, as they are long, intense affairs. Information abounds from several various sources, and we must cut. The research consists of reading through the core books, scouring through years of Dragon magazines, and finding obscure texts to make sure that we don't miss anything. It's an exhausting process, and when it's complete, we promise never to take up such an endeavor again....

Everything that creeps and crawls should be destroyed... with fire. - Stephen
This Monster Thursday is based on a request (send in more!) to include more spiders to D&D because there aren't enough! I'm not sure I'd agree with that sentiment, but looking through the old editions, there are a ton worth stealing and updating to this edition.
Of the dozens in the back catalog, I only chose six that I felt like could be utilized the most or had the ability to really ...

Based on the requests of our Patreon members we are sticking with some of those classic monsters from Dungeons & Dragons past. This week we bring forward a horrifying… bug? This strange monster is known as the Rust Monster, and as you may have gathered from its name… it has something to do with rust.
For all the monsters that have come and gone, it’s a little surprising that this strange looking creature has traveled through time, from the...

This week, we are looking at an ancient enemy that ran rampant in 3e/3.5e. The formians are ant-centaurs that are very reminiscent of the movie Starship Troopers and the bugs they must kill. Something about bugs just makes mankind want to destroy them. - Stephen
Way back in 2e, the formians were a... lovable? group of ant-centaur-things, though not really. Due to having a waist, unlike a regular ant, they could actually just twist their body so their head and thorax were uprigh...

Sometimes I convince myself to open up excel and just play around with a few numbers. This time around, I thought to myself that there must be something I can learn if I just play around with the chart found on page 274 of the DMG... - Stephen
Today, we are going on a journey! As usual, I don't typically have much of a clue as to what I'm looking at until the end of the post, and even then it gets a bit rambly, but it's fine... maybe I'll unlock the secrets of the univers...

If we had to rank the ugliest Dungeons & Dragons monsters, the Owlbear is definitely near the top along with the otyugh and the AD&D orcs. The Owlbear was created by Gary Gygax who was looking for new monsters for his players to fight. He found this kaiju monster toy in a small shop that labeled it as a ‘prehistoric animal’ and, along with other great monsters like the rust monster and the bulette, inducted it into the game. While the Owlbear was or...

This week we are looking at various monsters that you can find around the planes, from the fish-worms that fly through the skies of Bytopia to the mobs of bacchae who exist in pure revelry. These creatures are l...

This week, I’m spreading my wings and sharing with you new homebrew Feats instead of Cursed Magic Items. It was an enjoyable exercise, but much harder than I thought. I started with a list of over 20 potential feats, and ended up with 8 presentable ones. Thanks to Stephen for the assist.
As always, any comments and/or feedback is greatly appreciated.

The Gelatinous Cube, a horrifying monster probably inspired by the most boring dessert ever. It silently slides down the dungeon corridors, unseen by its prey until its too late. The Gelatinous Cube will keep a dungeon clean, clearing away any of that unwanted mold, loose copper coins, and pesky adventurers.
Like that chest in the middle of the empty room which you know is absolutely, positively a mimic, you know the sword lazily floating down the hallway is too good to be true. You're ...

What's this!? Another witch update? Before you get too excited, nothing is too terribly new with this quick update, just a lot of rebalancing after a lot of great insights over on Unearthed Arcana. I was too excited by my own ideas, I couldn't see the forest for the trees! Classes are tricky.
This quick update's major thing is that the Witch loses her familiar at level 2, but don't cry! It is thrown behind a hex so you can grab the familiar even at level 1 if your heart so desires...

There are so many monsters in the back editions, that we are going to be doing a few more old school monsters in the future. Hope you like this first installment! -Stephen
This time, we do not have a single family of monsters but rather a few monsters taken from the various editions before 5e. We get to see so many strange and horrifying creatures when researching for our Deep Dives that we are so confused that they haven't found a home in 5e yet. Maybe its because they are too...

The Mind Flayer has been around since the beginning of Dungeons & Dragons, and many know the Mind Flayer to be a part of the Illithids, a race of super-intelligent aberrations who believe themselves to be the dominant species of the multiverse.
