Wolves Woods - Final (mild NSFW) October 24th

"Hah!  I never thought I'd see a grown man run from a fish!"

"I feel sorry for him.. All that barking at it while it flopped around the shore."

"Hahahaha! It was tryin' ta kill him!   Bark-Bark-Bark-SQUEAK!!"

This pic is a bit late, as I had the drive blow-out a week back, but it's done!

I had a disturbing amount of fun doing this image.  I broke away from doing greyscale tonal drawings and just went into this splashing colour around to see what worked. ...

Brief Update - October 19th

Hey all,

Looks like the work machine is up and running.  Still pegging down a bunch of things like settings tweaks and brushes that I used for Clip Studio, but I can finally get back to work on arty bits.  I'll be working to catch back up to where I wanted to be (I wanted to have the wolves woods pic done by now, will be trying for that!)

Thanks again for all your patience folks!

Brief Update - October 17th.

Hey all!

Well, Monday might be hitting with a bit of a 'bang'.  I might be delayed a couple days due to a failing disk drive.  I need to re-install the whole workstation again on a new drive, which as most Windows users know is a fairly lengthy process due to the brick of updating/drivers/errors/re-downloads involved.

Hoping it won't take too long and won't bite too deep into the schedule.  If need be I can move over and work on my laptop in an emergency, though it's not i...

Wolves Woods Flats (mildly NSFW) - October 15

I normally try not to post all the 'stages' for most art, but in this case I liked the flats of the upcoming painting enough to want to post it.  It sort of has an animation cell quality that I'm digging.

I've also sent out the next e-mail to this month's Patreon sketch pic as well, so just a heads up!  Slowly making my way through the second round of sketches for folks!

Have a good weekend, folks!

Wolve's Woods Inks (WIP) - October 12th

Did some rough inks for the Wolve's Woods image.  I didn't go into incredibly fine detail (trying to get myself out of the habit of doing this on works that will be coloured).  I'm going with a more simplified way of doing colours for this one as well, without the greyscale.  We'll see how that works out!

I like the idea of a pair of alpha's wandering the woods and sharing a laugh about the fishing/hunting exploits they had with the pack.  There's something autumnal about i...

Starships & Spacemen Illustration - Sept 29

More spaaaaaace!  Was tasked with drawing a derelict ship/station with crew floating around exploring it.  Much of the set pieces for the older Star Trek, which this book is giving a nod to, were aesthetically boring from an illustration standpoint so I had to meld the old with a bit of Dead Space, and a lot of Cam Kennedy's style from his work on Star Wars comics and general space stuff (He's an absolute boss at making really gritty, grimy space stuff).

Half page illustration.

Spaaaace! - September 28th

I was tapped to do some interior illustrations for a Starships & Spacemen RPG supplement called 'The Lucanii Drift'.  The theme was to give a very big nod to the original Star Trek even if the book itself doesn't use any Star Trek lore or specific symbology.

I was also asked to add a 'ghastly desiccated alien' in a tomb, so I went full Aliens and Dead Space on it.

In other news, with this project winding down and the sketch for this month's random Patron about to be under...

Through Fallen Leaves (inked) - September 19

Posted with Bruma's permission is the sketch I had done of his character by the same moniker.  The inks on this were atypical for what I usually do on sketches, with a background that I just couldn't stop adding little pieces to.  When it comes to images with falling leaves in a natural settings I go full Bob Ross.  Its nearly a zen state.

I'm really starting to love these kinds of settings in images.  Much of my work is so primarily outdoors that it's probably not a surpri...

Through Fallen Leaves - September 13

Posted with kind permission from Bruma (both character owner and I believe the name of the character himself).

I don't normally go all wacky-crazy with detail for sketches I do for Patrons, but I loved the subject matter, and was asked to do an autumn scene, which I'm almost incapable of doing without detailing the daylights out of it ;)

I rarely get to work on rifles in the works that I do, as I primarily do fantasy work, so this one required me to do a 'block' model in Sketchup to get ...

Wolves of Autumn (NSFW) - September 10

A bit late getting some of these sketches out this month, but at least there are wolves!  Pantsless ones..

Well, admittedly the Khavijas (tribal wolves) tend to wear little until the winter and much colder seasons.  I wanted to depict a sort of autumn walk featuring a young chieftain and his made returning from a fishing trip.  She's having a giggle at some of the events on the trip.

I've been trying out the pencil brushes from Frenden again and I'm really, really starting...

Fangs of K'aath, final cover preview - August 31.

This image admittedly took me over a month to finally finalize, and is the final result after four other complete repaints based on the sketch.

Done for a reprinting of Fangs of K'aath written by Paul Kidd (Kitsune Press).  It was a full-wrap style image for the novel, hence the composition that places her more as a focus on the right side than the normal left.

I had to 'relearn' about half a dozen things after being sidelined from painting for so long.  It's pretty amazing wha...

Short Update

Hey all,

Just a short update to let folks know that the Tides comic is officially on hiatus until October.  There was simply too much stuff going on that bumped around my schedule severely.  I had commissioned work for a book cover come in as well as some illustration work for another book before all of the work that had to be done on my father's house (A basement leak that turned into much, much more work).

That said, while the comic is put off until Oct, artwork will continue...

Hellow Leef (rough concept sketch) - August 15

Its been miserably hot and humid over the last week here, as it has most of the summer, but particularly withering this last week.  I was able to get a bit of rough sketchwork done once the sun went down (and with the help of several standing fans).

Dreams of autumn are starting to hit.  This time with Cinders having a chat with the first leaf that fell in the township, keeping it company and sipping tea.

I`ll be sending along a mail to the next person in line for a sketch as w...

July's Sketch Pick (NSFW) - August 5th

The sketch pick from July for The Ghost Pony.

Enjoyed this quite a bit, of course, since it features an equine character.  I kept messing around with the background to figure out how to do a starry-field effect and finally just went with a basic infill of digital ink with a scattery spray brush to map out those million-billion suns.

The next week or so will see me doing some sketchwork of my own to turn into a coloured piece as well as getting Fangs done.  So far the new...

Fangs of K'aath - August 3rd

I was tapped recently to do a cover for a re-printing of the Fangs of K'aath novel by Paul Kidd.  I haven't done a full wrap style image for a book cover before (previously I only did a front cover) so my image composition had to be shifted from my normal left-to-right style to accommodate that the right side of the image would comprise of the front of the cover.

I wanted Sandhri (the bat girl storyteller) to stand out as the focus and ended up constructing the whole scene in sketchup to ...

Vaults of Auchenovar - July 22nd

Hey all,

I'm all set up to work again without needing some eldritch scaffolding for the back issue I was having earlier in the week.  New painting is being worked on now as well as the sketchwork!

I've added another re-post of an image I posted a good year ago or so but sadly only at lower resolution.  This time I've tweaked the colour slightly from the original, and am posting the 'big ol' resolutions'.  Its an image of Lyssiah descending past the Ghost Tower marker in th...
