Hey all!
I've been laid up for about 5 days with a fairly severe sciatic nerve compression which is finally starting to fade. It was definitely an 'experience' to not be able to lay down at all without one leg feeling like it was being sawed off by a blindfolded clown.
The good news, at least, is that I've been able to start getting some of the older posts I've made together, and cataloging what I'd like to re-share with every one in the stream.
One of the biggest reasons...

Hey all!
I've managed to get the tonal paints done for the next painting. I kind of wanted to go with something summery since the weather here is essentially caught between burning your hide off, or drowning you with rain and humidity. Its a simple picture of Cinders reminding you that summer can be for sockies (though not pants).
I'm also finally able to post images in-line (The picture will be on a link attached to this post). I'll be trying this out for a...

Hey all!
Just a heads up that I'll be sending out an email to this month's sketch pick. A couple people joined up at the $10 tier (hello and thank you!) and I'll be working to get their sketches done over the next couple months. I'll be picking randomly (rolling a D2) and send the e-mail out to them this evening.

Hey all,
This is a patron sketch done for the month before last (as last month was my 'off' month). The character is from a society that has advanced tech and magic, so I sort of wanted to blend a mix of old (background outside the window) and new (Armadillo Shellpad 6, now with more Armadillo!).
I always have to end up stopping myself from detailing the daylights out of the background for these sketches, since I'm trying to stick to a simplified background for Patron sketc...

Looks like I was tapped to try out the 'charge up front' feature that Patreon is rolling out later on for everyone. Just to let you all know that this will not affect anyone already pledging right now (though the bots are going to be removed, of course). Payment will still be done at the beginning of the month for people already signed up.
How it does effect things: First up, it can allow people say.. pledge one month and get access to the back-catalog....

Hey all,
Hope folks in the U.S. had a good fourth. Just sending along a rough sketch of one of the things I'm working on.
I'm struggling a bit with art this last week. A mix of a 'block' and just not being able to get things looking right. Even so, I'm still going to be posting rough sketches mixed in with full artwork and comic pages. The roughs will simply be 'in stream' posts at lower resolution since they aren't completed. Forgive how scribbly so...

I've been whittling away at getting a bit more of my world fleshed out, which is a task that I don't think I'll truly finish in my lifetime.
With an upcoming campaign in the works I've 'zoomed in' to focus on a small grouping of islands off of the Aegencald Continent that are collectively known as the Kvarsvald Isles. It has a bit of a Iceland meets primordial feel, with a lot of places steeped in a weave of magic even older than the oldest ages of man.
I thought I'd show o...

I have a couple updates this time around that I'd like to share. It's been a bit of a busy month (in a good way) and I missed talking about a couple recent changes on how I'll be doing things here.
First up. Going forward I want to try out giving 300dpi files to both the $10 and $5 tiers, and 150dpi to the $1 tier. I've been mulling it over for a while now, and it would be a bit less work for me as it eliminates the 96dpi images I have to size and creat...

I wanted to do a picture to inaugurate the new tablet and figured the best person for the job would be Cinders. The hardware is working brilliantly, but it takes a bit of getting used to since its on a whole other plane of ability than the last tablet was (It should be, for that price).
A simple 'summer' picture. Cinders pausing in her beach-wanderings on Qiuloa to remind everyone that summer is for sockies. A public service announcement.. I think.
Either way, t...
2016-06-10 22:47:36 +0000 UTC View PostHey all,
I just wanted to send along a short update noting that I'm going to be upgrading to a Wacom tablet in the very near future. This is largely due to my current hardware having extremely 'picky' drivers that are made by a third party who rarely updates them. As such, they don't work reliably with Windows 10 at all (They barely did with 7) I've had to use several modifications and even keep certain software off of my current work machine due to the strangely paranoid...

Final colours and lettering done for page six of the Tides comic. Took a bit longer than I would have liked, but I think the colours are okay-ish.

Hey all,
While I wasn't able to finish the colours for page six as I had planned, I did at least get the inks finished for it and figured I'd share them out as a bit of compensation. Still hoping to get the page done shortly if I can clear up all of this basement/flood business.
One thing the comic gives is a rather nice bit of escape. Drawing otters and tropical thing is pretty zen!

2016-05-25 20:38:22 +0000 UTC View PostHey all,
A quick heads up. I've had an issue come up with the house regarding drainage that was discovered today. We had a few days of solid downpour rain and I didn't realize that some backflow seeped into the basement.
This house is between 50 to 100 years old, and the years are starting to show. I'll be taking a few days off just to clean everything out of the basement (a monumental task, believe me, this place has more rigging in wires than a ship has rope) ...

Hey all,
I've been sketching away at the next few pages of Tides of Nautu'Loa over the past couple of days and figured I'd give a preview of each. Page six is attached to this post, since it's just a rough sketch.
Hoping to have this done by about Wednesday and page 7 underway immediately after that since I've been lagging behind in getting these done.
The 'nsfw' warning is due to mild nudity.
Have a good weekend, folks!

In the rare moments I've had to sit and do artwork I've been indulging in drawing out my characters in a friend's D&D campaign that's been running for a few months now. Normally I tend to hold off on drawing characters until they're in a more 'survivable' spot in games, but in this case I made an exception solely due to wanting to show a bit of the history of the Order of the Pale Star on Felwroth.
I went a bit more illustrative with this one. I'm getting back in the practi...

An image of last month's patron sketch, Soba! And a pair of inquisitive little bamboo dragons. You meet all sorts in your travels, but at least these two critters are pretty harmless.
Bears must be a symbol of spring or something, as I've drawn two now in consecutive months!
There is one more name on the list for a sketch this month and I'll send along a note on the 15th to them when I'm ready to start. I'll be taking a month off after that to just pour i...

Final painting of the 'Scarred King'. This one was a bit hit and miss in places since I wasn't sure if it was meshing right. Hopefully the final product is worth it.
After a suggestion from a good friend I added a very slight smile to Berrand. I wanted to really capture a place of peace despite his weariness. I can only imagine he's watching Cinders doing her gardening, evoking a sense of 'home' to him. He's definitely a L...

Berrand is one of those characters I don't draw much. I'm still not entirely sure why, since he's Cinders' husband you would think he'd be in more of the sketches I do of her.
He's not always an easy character for me to portray, which probably explains the lack of art I've done of him. He carries around a lot of scars as most former warriors do, both physical and mental, though he's found peace in his later life, a sort of serenity he can live ...

Much later than I would have liked, I've finally got a setup that I can use to do artwork while a new graphics card is on it's way.
Today's work was the sketch done for Charly Dunst, who got the slot for last month's $10 tier sketch, featuring Teresa Fairchild (sherrif and rabbit!) holding a Xon parasite in one hand, and an organically created long-rifle in the other. It's a pretty long story but one that intrigued me quite a bit.
I haven't done many western themed images o...
2016-04-08 19:12:46 +0000 UTC View PostAfter some testing around I was able to get the tablet working with an older laptop, so it seems that it wasn't a hardware issue with the tablet.
Though it might be one with my production machine. But fixing a broken bit in a desktop is at least a lot cheaper a solution than having to replace an item that costs more than the computer it's running on.
So for now I'm able to at least get things rolling again. It's not ideal, the laptop is definitely in the 'old gray nag...
2016-04-05 01:52:59 +0000 UTC View PostJust a short update.
Seems that every month starts with some bizarre problem this year. This time around the tablet I've been using without problem for the last year or so just suddenly decided it wasn't a pen display anymore.
I'm trying to figure out a solution to this. It is unfortunately not a Wacom tablet, and dealing with a foreign company on this is becoming painfully slow. I've done all that I can think to do (clean installing drivers, forcing drivers to ...

A brief note: The last few images for the month are a bit late, the painting especially, and will be posted to everyone probably at the beginning of next month due to the server automatically archiving images at the beginning of the month. This will give people time to grab the image without having to re-upload the whole thing.
This week's image is fairly cartoony and even a bit saccharine for most people's tastes. Though it's actually quite important to me for several re...

This is the sketch I did for last month's $10 tier patron. I don't usually get asked much for sci-fi so it was a bit of a learning experience for me, and as usual I had to stop myself before getting far too fiddly with the background since these sketches are supposed to be a little on the simplified side.
The character is Jake "Cordite" Rodriguez, and had a helluva interesting background story attached to him. I went with a bit of Colonial marines meets Deadspace meets slightly...
