SO MANY VIDEOS! BTS #71

This past week, I've shot many videos. Let's run it back.

First, the video coming out tomorrow was my main concern, a collaboration with the youtuber Jazza. He has over 5 million subs, so this collaboration is a little bit like charity for my benefit! He's a super nice guy, and he challenged me to paint a 75mm display mini in 3 hours with ONLY an airbrush. This flies in the face of everything I know about painting display miniatures, so there was a serious mental hurdle to get ove...

Early release!

A fun collaboration with Jazza. I think this video is more about the experience and the learning lessons as opposed to the result, and I'm still coming to terms with that :)

We're getting back on track with early releases this next week. I've filmed quite a few videos that only need some editing.

Not the early release you deserve

I meant this to be done a week ago. I'm sorry it's so late, I'm going to get better.

I painted for 38 HOURS straight?! BTS #70

What up, mini family?!

As some of you know, I wanted to see how long I could paint for in one sitting, so I prepared a Legion of Blood army from the game Age of Sigmar, and sat down and did it. The ending amount was 38hrs! Here's what I was able to finish in that time.

Vampire kitbashing! BTS #69

eyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy 69!
My sole purpose this last week was to finish the kitbashing and video. It took me longer than expected because I spent a lot of time working on one particular model in the unit. Here are some WIP shots of the conversion!
I started off with the Kastellan of the unit. That's a Black Knight helmet, a coven throne head, and a Melusai torso.

I had a lot of fun converting this blood knights, but I also had a lot of fun making this video. I changed up the format a bit. Let me know what you think of the kitbash and the video!

Conversions, Merch, oh my! BTS #68

What up, mini family?!

A little bit ago, I mentioned that my wife and I were going to start fulfilling the miniac merch again v.s. using something like teespring/red bubble. That way you can sell whatever you want, and also moderate the quality of the products better. We're a little behind schedule because the people we used to make enamel pins are getting hung up by the corona virus, but over here at miniac HQ, we're trying to make the most of our time.

Sculpting my first mini! Early release video!

Here's the process of sculpting my first ever miniature. Let me know what you think!

Sculpting! BTS #67

What up, mini family?!

Last week, I spent the entire week editing the video coming out this Friday. It was a narrative short, so lots of editing, VFX, recording of foley, etc. It wasn't very exciting so I skipped the BTS post. This month, however, I've been sculpting a cacodemon from Doom! Here's the concept I was working from:

And here is my current WIP

Early release!

A fun skit that Sam, Jon, myself, and a few others shot a couple months ago.

I think the point of the video kind of got away from me. I emphasized more so that I'm trying to fix my relationship with my hobby, whereas what I'm actually discussing has value just beyond that. Let me know your thoughts.

Let's vote on the next patreon requested video!

Alright, we finished up the army scheme video, let's pick another option for the next patron requested topic! I genuinely enjoyed the first two I did, so I'm excited to see what you guys pick.

Concept Finalized, New Merch, Bust Painted! BTS #66

What up, mini family?!

Let's start with the thing I think people are must looking forward to hearing about. Tatiana finished up the rough sketch for the concept art for my new swamp-elf mini! She's now refining all the details.

This is probably the 6th revision and I love it. The head being held by the hair and the nearby recently-used knife, the scale mail, the shortened antl...

STDs, Skits, Concept Art, and Busts! BTS #65

What up, mini family?!

This past week has been action packed. It started out with working on the video that's coming out this Friday, about coming up with a paint scheme for an army. This was a topic voted on by our Dark Wizard patrons and I'm happy to finish it. Here were the 3 test models I worked on to refine the scheme for batch painting:

After that, it was on to the next ...

Behind the Scenes #63

What up, mini family?!

Last week I skipped the BTS post because I was literally doing 1 thing the entire week: painting Drazhar. This is where I'm at:

This isn't the most up to date photo but newer photos don't show much progress. Needless to say, I've finalized the main body and am now onto painting the arms. I'm going to paint this model in my off-time and finish it slowly because now we gotta get back in action!  View Post

Hopefully the term "biopic" isn't too presumptuous. Please enjoy this video about a great miniature painter, Roman Lappat.

Conversions and Drazhar?! BTS #63

What up, mini family?!

This last week has been full of 100% hobbying. I've been painting my GD entry a lot. Even though GD isn't happening, I have time now to crank it out so I figured I'd finish it and have one in the chamber. Here's the current status:

I am truly hating painting this much white to the standard I am striving for. I am very ready to move on to other colors, but unfortunately white covers the biggest area with...

Let's Get Down to Business! BTS #62

What up, mini family?! I've been a busy beaver lately. Tomorrow there's a video about freehanding coming out that some of you are likely aware of. I freehanded this little banner from a model I 3D printed.

As a last minute edition, I was able to get Richard Grey to add some advice to my freehanding video! So, I re-edited the video an am reuploading it right now.

3D Printing Woes No Moes! BTS #61

What up mini family?!

Holy cow, the early release video is late! It's coming right up, just finished it today. The reason it took me so long is because I had to learn a bunch about the ins and outs of 3D printing and getting crispy detail. I learned about manually placing supports, dialing in your exposure times, what types of resin print miniatures best, and more! When I went to write the script for this week's video, it turned out I had enough content to make 2 whole videos. It ...

3D Printing Woes! BTS #60

What up, mini family!? The name of the game this week has been 3D printing and PDF makin'. Jon and I have an impending class, and part of the value of the class is something we're calling a "Quick Reference Guide". It's a laminated, spiral bound booklet that goes over the information taught in the class in a succinct way that someone could have next to them at their painting table after the course is done. It took me around 10-15hrs to finish the whole thing, but I'm really happy with how it ...

Early Release: The ULTIMATE Miniature Painting Workshop!
