The Dark Zen Garden

Dimensions - (16 x 25) squares
Image resolution - 2240 x 3500 px
DPI - 140

"A fluttering breeze wafts through the glittering leaves and outstretched branches around you, filling your ears with a hushed and muttering whisper. The soft glow of the garden's lights send shadows scattering across the smooth plastic and glass, like some abstract dance of nature imprisoned by man and metal.

The echo of your feet on the floor is muffled and suffocated by the surrounding vegetation, with the outside world kept out by walls and flora stretching to the stars and satellites blinking above. Other patrons of the garden glide past you slowly, lost in the meditation of this moment as everyone tries to forget they have to return to their sad lives outside.

The bright shining screen that covers an entire wall of the enclosed space is drawing people like moths. As you step closer it feels like gazing through frosted glass, your head throbbing from how bright and unnatural the light is. It takes up almost the entire field of your view with vague, bony outlines of trees far in the distance or just of focus.

You're not sure if it's the fans blasting out humid air to keep the breeze gusting through the space, but you feel your eyes start to blur and grow wet. Choked sobs from other visitors echo around you, mixing with the hushed and muttering whisper."

~ SlappinFace

Happy end of month everyone!

I hope everyone's well and that you're working hard (but not too hard) and gaming even harder!

This is the last battle map for the month of July and it is one of those art pieces that plucks at my heartstrings - simply because it took so much effort for this concept to be conceived. As humans, we tend to be biased towards the things we put most of our efforts into, do we not?

I present to you, the "Dark Zen Garden". I know it is a tacky name, but my maps are already dark enough in nature and a little lightening up wouldn't hurt, I think.

About This Map

The idea was seeded by Patreon member "@ToiletTruck" over at the Discord server. He actually suggested this idea a long time back as a darker alternative to the "Japanese Garden" map that I drew many moons ago. It just took me a long time to find a concept that I thought would work.

This battle map's concept is about a large interior garden located inside some sort of futuristic corporate sci-fi building or structure. It's really dark and the main sources of illumination are the glowing trees and the large curved screen panel that projects a looped video of lush foliage.

This map will be a good interim location that the players come across whilst enroute to the main bio lab. Or, a place where corrupt bureaucrats gather in secrecy to discuss their nefarious schemes.

Map Variants

Here is where the fun begins...

Tree Canopy

I've created a canopy layer of the tree leaves for you to add as a overly in your favorite virtual tabletop gaming apps (such as Roll20, Foundry VTT, Fantasy Grounds - there are just so many to choose from nowadays).

Base Layers

These are the variants without the tree leaves, showcasing the details underneath.

The Thing

Here we go. I had fun with this one. The entire curved screen is replaced by a large terrarium made of frosted glass. Inside the terrarium is a vague plant-like create organism with tentacles. Scattered around are spore sacks reminiscent of the egg sacks from the movie Aliens.

I wanted to have fun with this one so I didn't try and define the creature's details, instead leaving it to the GM's imagination. I think the abstract view is much creepier in this case.

Containment Breach

Tentacles come bursting out of terrarium, smashing the glass. The tips of those vines are razor sharp. The movement of the tentacles are erratic. Either way, someone's going to get impaled this session. Helldivers never di... oops, wrong game.

I hope you guys like this one. It took a while to complete but I definitely had fun creating this piece for you all.

Like it? Let me know in the comments below.

Cyberpunk Butcher Shop

Dimensions - (17 x 12) squares
Image resolution - 2380 x 1680 px
DPI - 140

"Fridges and chillers hum with anticipation as you enter the butchers, packed with ice and assorted cuts of meat gleaming under the bright lights. The large attendant behind the counter nods curtly at you before returning to his tool, gritting his teeth as he seems to be working out some personal issues with his blunt blade.

You eye the large racks of flesh stabbed into hooks behind the counter, glistening and gleaming with fresh streaks of blood running down the ribs. The bounty of meat seemed almost comical in a city where people would fight over a malnourished cat.

As you weave through the shop floor, you can't help but notice the tags only have prices on them as you're left to guess what slabs of product you are getting. As you check out the kibble machines to see what's still in stock, a thin and bony member of staff pushes through the plastic flaps to toss more meat on the counter behind the large attendant. As the slim man shoulders back through, you catch the sounds of squealing from the back area. You might have dismissed it as the sounds of animals being slaughtered or machinery whirring into action, but the large attendant seems to be watching you very closely and holding his blade very tightly."

~ SlappinFace

Hi guys,

Here is the first map drop of the month. It's coming in a little late as I've had some administrative things to take care of. But nonetheless, here we go - The Butcher Shop!

As a primer, I realize that with many Cyberpunk settings, real meat is hard to come by and it is reserved for the social upper-class elites, the wealthy. They get to eat the real thing while the average Joe citizen would get by with kibble (dog food-like biscuits) to obtain their protein needs, maybe supplement after with vitamins or something.

Then there are other Cyberpunk settings where meat, especially red meat, is not talked about and left to the imagination. The Ghost in the Shell universe is one example. If anyone else knows more about the GITS setting, please feel free to comment below.

With this Butcher Shop battle map, the inspiration came directly from the Cyberpunk 2077 game. A shop like this would serve as the middle man, packaging the meat and selling direct to restaurants. High-end ones.

Pro tip: Chain this map with the Chinese Restaurant Kitchen map I did a few months back. It has a "Delivery Day" variant which will tie in very nicely with the butcher shop's services.

If you're after a high-end restaurant, check out this oldie of a map that I did way back - The High-Class Restaurant. It also has a large industrial-style kitchen that would receive meat (and other ingredients) deliveries in a similar way.

I hope you guys like the map! Let me know if you do.

Map Variants

Hang Man

A near-lifeless body hangs besides the animal carcasses. Based on the wounds sustained and blood splatters on the floor, it is clear that this individual was interrogated. But why?

All Sold Out

"Business has been unusually good this week. We're all sold out. Sorry buddy, but come back next week", the butcher says while scratching at his blood-stained stubble. "It was just all one customer too. A new one. Never seen 'em here before".

Illicit Carcasses

The animal carcasses found in the cold room have been used to traffic various forms of street drugs. The butcher shop is just a front. The real business here? - "distribution".

Esoteric Curio Shop

Dimensions - [14 x 9] squares
Image resolution - 2800 x 1800 px
DPI - 200

"Stepping off the bleak streets of the city, you find yourself in this strangely warm and cozy little shop. Soft amber light fills the space, casting deep shadows across the varied merchandise weighing down the shelves.

You feel a deep sense of awe filling your chest but as you spend longer surveying the wares, a slight wave of anxiety itches your neck. There's so much unknown here, things and stuff and pieces that are completely foreign to you.

The shop owner shuffles out to the counter from the back room, the door swinging shut smartly to block out the pulsing green glow emanating from inside."

~ SlappinFace

Hi all!

I hope everyone is well. Here is the final map for June. I hope you all enjoy this one. Shoutout to "Unknown_User" who is a regular over at the Frag Maps Discord server for seeding this idea.

An esoteric shop is a place where you’ll find unusual and rare objects, often understood or appreciated by only a small group of people with specialized knowledge or interests. These shops offer unique items, such as collectibleshistorical artifacts, or curiosities - hence "curio".

The store also stocks plenty of products related to the metaphysical/mysticism: gemstones, incense, candles, tarot cards, essential oils, crystals and the like.

Even in the age of Cyberpunk, there are going to be superstitious people. Runners that count on their lucky charms, or pray to their deities in hopes that they live to see tomorrow.

Your players might want to come to such a place to get some lucky charms of their own or to find out what happened to the last runner who died mysteriously whilst couriering a historical religious artifact from this store. There are just so many curious pathways the players can go down from curio store like this one.

Map Chaining

The Esoteric Curio Shop is yet another addition to the growing list of battle maps under the occult-based category. I've linked the category page here for you all to peruse.

Map Variants

Asian Themed

This variant is a tile that gives the store a bit more of an Asian theme.

Kidnapped Owner

Your players enter the shop but the owner doesn't seem to be around. They go around back and there are signs of struggle. Shelves have been ripped out, glass shattered. A massive trail of blood can be seen on the floor.

There is no body so one can only assume that a kidnapping is at play. But why?

Basement Stairs

I planned for this side door to be generic, so you guys can deem it to be whatever you choose. Be it a door to a back alley, a closet etc. But this tile variant creates some visual interest for your players, inviting them to check out the basement below.

Off the top of my head, I have created two other basement maps that you can chain this to:

In Need of a Helping Hand

Those of you who have been supporting my work for a while, would have noticed that this map looks a little different from my usual art style. So let me explain.

Since I started Frag Maps almost 4 years ago, I have been going hard at it, pedal to the metal working 7 days a week. I think the total amount of time I've had off was about 3 weeks (within those 4 years).

Everything was going fine until a few months back where I finally hit a brick wall and suffered a burnout - there were other external life issues at play that contributed to it but that was the straw that broke that camel's back, for me.

My core principles for Frag Maps have always been: provide as high quality art as possible to my subscribers and be as consistent as possible with battle map output. I think I have managed to maintain that balance well over the 4 years.

I was consistently striving to get better with painting, faster, just so I can have more time to create even better looking art. I was trying to push the barrier of what was capable of with every map. No one has mentioned the difference in art style from my very early maps to my 2024 maps - but there has been huge changes.

I had learnt and progressed a whole lot. But it was this relentless chasing to becoming a better artist that really led to this burnout I feel. I decided that I needed SOME time at least to recover, mentally and physically. I have ignored this aspect of my life for way too long and acknowledged that I needed help.

All this time, I had massive OCD when it came to my work. I wanted my maps to look a certain way and I flat out refused to outsource any of it. But a few weeks ago, I came across a very talented artist who I felt would be able to more closely emulate my art style and help me cut down on the workload and produce final pieces of art that to a standard I was happy with.

I am still heavily involved with the map sketching and planning, ideation, colors and general art direction. The artist's part is really to come in and render the baseline sketch to final - that's the part that requires the most amount of time.

This is all still being trialed, but my plans are to still release two battle maps each month as usual where one of them would be created by me, and the other by the hired hand. Those of you with a keen eye and who are attuned to my art style will easily be able to tell which maps are done by my hand and which by the artist.

It was very difficult for me to write this post to you guys and I hope you all will be okay with the path I have taken. Anyway, I will update you guys if anything changes. Let me know how you feel, what you think, in the comments below. I'd love to hear from you, my supporters.

Much love,

Frag

TV Network Broadcast Studio

Image resolution - 4000 x 2600 px
DPI - 200
Dimensions - [20 x 13] squares
1 sq = 5 ft

"There's a hum in the air, a throbbing energy that vibrates through the studio. Servers churn and chew through the digital info being fed into them before beaming it out to the masses.

People hurry and scurry around the studio like worker ants, toiling under the harsh sun of spotlight beams and digit screens. It's perfect chaos, every single thing has a place and every single person has a job. One flickering light or one forgetful staff member, and the entire facade would shatter.

The new anchors grin and blink from behind their desk up on the brightly lit stage, whilst sweaty and stressed suits shout orders at technicians in the control room."

~ SlappinFace

Hi guys!

This month's maps are coming in late but they're coming in hot!

The first map of the month is a television network's broadcast studio. Drawing this broadcast studio battle map was a bit of a challenge because my mind's eye has not had much exposure to such environments (except for the time I was binging through Apple's "Morning Wars" series). I had to Google for a lot of references and watch a ton of behind the scenes YouTube videos on network television. Fun!

I recall showing you guys the initial concept of this battle map over at Discord.

I started the sketch out in color (which is rare) and surprisingly the end result wasn't too different. The only big change I made since was shortening the outer corridor to maximize the area of the main studio floor. I think it looks, and play a lot better this way.

Map Variants

The Talk Show

This is your typical Today Show variant where an influential guest sticks his neck out there and goes live to the masses. The perfect opportunity for an assassination or kidnapping scenario kickoff.

Barricades

The heroes are trying to get an important bit of information out to the public and what better way to do so than via the city's biggest TV news network?

The situation gets spicy as security forces quickly surround the group and they have to barricade themselves in just long enough to broadcast.

I have included TWO variant tiles here for each of the double doors - the TV studio has 2 of these along the east and south walls. While the barricades alone won't stop an intrusion, they are enough to change the flow of attack and defense.

Breach

A green screen detonates, providing a nifty escape route to the outside. Thanks to Luke The GM for this idea - I almost missed it!

I've added a second variation of this tile that does not lead outside but to an adjacent interior space. Try both tiles to see which one suits your narrative better, GM's!

Train Repair Yard

Dimensions - (30 x 46)
DPI - 140
Image resolution - 4200 x 6440

Grid scale - 1 sq = 10 ft

"The oil clings to everything, the smell and texture of it coating the entire scene as you weave through the old and new. Rusting and decaying containers are hooked up next to brand new and shining boxcars as workers shout and yell in a friendly manner.

The great engines pulling these mammoth loads hiss and seethe on the broad rails like impatient beasts ready to be let loose, the sounds boiling up from the depths of their engines echoing around the cavernous warehouses next to the tracks.

But there's a strange tinge to the air, beyond the sharp tang of fuel hanging in the breeze. The odd worker glancing around anxiously, sections of the yard that seem devoid of activity, a loud booming chorus from beyond a chained up fence, a shadowed figure moving along the roofs. Or has the chorus of train engines left you on edge?
"
~ SlappinFace

Hey there everyone!

Huge thanks to SlappinFace for that enticing introduction to the last map for the month of May. I hope your game session(s) will thrive on this battle map!

This train repair yard is massive. It took me way longer to complete than I had anticipated (took a total of two weeks for those who are curious). I think a lot of it had to do with the internal section that depicts the repair and maintenance bays for the train engines. That section is literally half the map that needed to be re-painted. Deciding on how the layout was going to look, when and where to show the internal wall structures etc, it all took a lot more time in general.

Initially, I was going for an abandoned rail yard that was old and dilapidated but realized that without internal lights in the workshop area, the whole section would be in darkness - those of you who have delved in photography and played with light exposure would understand what I'm on about. Thus, I ended up with this iteration of the train yard that is time-current with architectural elements inspired by Cyberpunk 2077.

Map Chaining

Note: At the north edge of the battle map, are a few railway tracks that lead down into some tunnels. These eventually will lead to the Abandoned Subway Station. Huge shoutout to the guys over at Discord for spotting this opportunity!

I am rushing to get this out to you guys as I type this, so I am not going to waffle on any longer. Here are the variants that form this battle map pack.

Map Variants

Maintenance Bays

This variant uncovers the workshop and maintenance bay areas. Two separate buildings with their own repair bay sections. There are also staircases that lead up to the rooftop levels from here.

Less Is More

These are for the GM's that want to make it super hard for the aggressors approaching the maintenance bays by removing the majority of train cars from the map, creating more open space and a lot less cover than before.

For those who have access to this variant, I've also included swappable tiles (as well as baked-in versions) for those who want to have more trains in one area of the map but not the other. Have a look at your downloads folder and you'll see what I mean.

Scavs Den

Battle map dimensions - (14 x 9)
Image resolution - 2800 x 1800
DPI - 200

"This place feels soaked in death. The brutal and callous 'surgery' carried out on unwilling victims for the precious organs and tech they carry, leaving rooms awash with blood.

The slow and agonising self-destruction of junkies juicing up and drenching themselves in booze, with rooms shrouded in a haze of noxious vapours and alcohol fumes.

You can feel your life expectancy peeling away like dead skin the longer you stand here, as flies buzz around the dead and nearly dead occupants of this cramped and dirty den of sin."

~ SlappinFace

Hi everyone!

To kick off May, I have a grungy, tight-quartered, gory environment for you GMs to throw your players into. This is the Scavs Den. Shoutout to supporter "SigSaw" for seeding this idea and a huge thanks to all the Discord members who have come in with their ideas to help me on this one.

The Scavvers (Gang)

In Cyberpunk Red/2077, the Scavengers (also known as “Scavs” or “Reapers”) are a ruthless gang that can be found all over Night City.

They forcibly kidnap people and harvest their high-end cyberware implants to sell on the black market. Their methods are brutal, and they have zero regard for human life.

"To a Scav, a human is just a set of products waiting to be sold on the black market." - (Cyberpunk Wiki). - I just love that line.

Battle Map Run-down

During the painting process, I saw this space as an old storage facility that had been repurposed by the Scavs to be used as their den-slash-hideout. While the gang members operate in small groups all over the city, this particular bunch happen to be cannibals (they don't mess about when it comes to bio waste).

For those of you who don't play Cyberpunk Red, this map could easily be an underground clinic that implants and sells used cybernetics.

The map is broken up into 4 areas:

  • Entry corridor featuring a large cargo elevator

  • Living quarters

  • Ice bath area where implants are removed

  • Meat dismembering and freezer storage area

Some of you might be wondering "but Frag, why is there no toilet?". To that, I respond with "it is a warehouse repurposed, so functional toilets were not part of the architectural floorplan. Look to the large wet puddle in the corridor - that's where the Scavvers relieve themselves".

Map Variants

Hidden Back Door

Hidden behind some abandoned wooden crates and some tarp covered old mattresses, is a doorway situated at the east end of the corridor.

This concealed doorway may reveal itself when the target is cornered in the end room and needs a quick exit back to the corridor.

Crime Scene Investigation

The premises has been police taped to prevent unauthorized entry. A white chalk body outline lies near the main entrance. Judging from its orientation, it appears the murder victim was trying to make a run for it. Perhaps the individual was a victim of kidnapping and tried to flee, but didn't even make it to the front door.

The Messy Butcher

One of the group members who resides is known as "The Messy Butcher". This Scav prides himself in his meat cleaving skill. The truth is however, he has none and tends to create a bloody mess wherever he goes.

This tile variant describes just that.

The Ritual Sacrifice

Some of the Shadowrun RPG players from the Discord server suggested that adding a blood ritual sacrifice variant would go well with the occult themed maps (and variants) that I've created in the past:

Thanks again for your support everyone! Love you guys and hope you guys will have a blast one this map. Looking forward to comments down below!

Under Construction - The Incomplete Level

Dimensions - (25 x 37)
Image size - 3500 x 5180 px
DPI - 140

"Wind whirls through the concrete husk of the tower, plastic sheeting flapping like discarded skin in the breeze.

The building sits in limbo, unfinished and incomplete. Each footstep sends echoes racing through the structure, the dusty light of dawn lighting up the tools and equipment being used to erect this monolith to commerce.

It feels abandoned but down below there's the roar of machinery starting up, the hum of idle morning chatter, the slam and smack of construction supplies banging together. This will be a hive of workers soon enough."

~ SlappinFace

Big thanks again to SlappinFace for these awesome introductions.

Without further ado, we have the last map for the month of April - "Under Construction - The Incomplete Level".

It is a bit of a mundane name but some pretty interesting things can and will happen on this battle map - I assure you. Simply set your players up and let the possibilities unfold!

This construction building interior battle map is meant to be a follow-up of the Construction Site . Even to this day, I receive gameplay screenshots of that old map I drew so many moons ago. It's good to know that the Construction Site has had a good run by so many gaming groups. Thus, I reckon this recent follow-up map is warranted.

A shoutout goes out to "LuketheGM" from the FM Discord server for seeding this map idea. Thanks Luke!

Map Variants

Sketchy Flooring

A section of flooring in the middle of the map is incredibly unstable. Large cracks and holes in the concrete creates a high-risk scenario for players or NPC's trying to traverse from the southern to northern sides (or vice versa) of the building.

After The Rave

This tile variant suggests that an illegal rave party was hosted at this location the night before.

Throw a few dead bodies in and we have an investigative scenario, for your players to unravel the source of a new deadly party drug that has taken the city by storm.

Exterior Catwalk

A tile variant that adds an exterior workman's walkway to the building's facade. The walkway provides an alternative (exterior) access to the north-side of the building from the level below.

Wastelands Gas Station

Battle map dimensions - (39 x 28)
Image resolution - 5460 x 3920
DPI - 140

The sun is blazing down like it has a personal vendetta against you. Panting for air in the endless desert, you can almost taste the heat and dirt billowing around you.

Thank god for this oasis, this concrete and steel paradise in the middle of this wasteland. But this haven is not perfect, infested like everything else with opportunistic scavengers and bottom feeding vermin.

Away from prying eyes, hurried exchanges are made by strangers standing by idling vans. Everyone has somewhere else they need or want to be, this isn't a place to linger even if it is an isolated beacon of hope in this harsh wasteland.

~ SlappinFace

Hey there everybody!

For the first map of this month, I present to you the "Wastelands Gas Station". Set in the wastelands, this run-down gas station situated along the highway is the last stop for fuel, refuge and anything in-between.

I'd like to give a shoutout to all the amazing folks over at the Discord server for throwing tons of ideas my way on this one. I had plenty of help!

Battle Map Variants

Shop Interior Base

This is the base level battle map, showcasing the interior of the shop.

Roof Tile

The roof is provided as a "tile" in .PNG format that you overlay over the Shop Interior Base map, within your favorite virtual tabletop (VTT) software, such as Roll20, Foundry VTT etc.

The following variants form a series of events surrounding this gas station. A time-lapse if you will.

Oil Leak

Stage 1. One of the gas pumps leaks intentionally or unintentionally. A huge puddle of fuel spreads around the shop.

Gas Pump Fire

Stage 2. A huge fire breaks out. Fueled by the oil reserves underground, a huge dark smoke plume ensues that can be seen from miles away.

All Burnt Out

Stage 3. Nothing's left of the shop but a blackened husk. The roof has collapsed and there's soot-colored rubble, steel and debris everywhere.

This one may be great for those post-mortem, investigative scenarios that your players may end up becoming part of.

The Nexus - Hacker Farm

Dimensions - [24 x 17]
Image resolution - 4800 x 3400
DPI - 200

"This room is buried in a faceless corporate building, one you would walk past any day of the week and barely pay attention to. But encased in the concrete and steel is this glowing hive of illicit online activity.

Servers click and whir as they carry out the work of people tapping away at their bright screens. Siphoning money, planting blackmail, breaking security systems, nothing good is happening in these walls.

The place is lit up and throbs like a nightclub, but the patrons here aren't focused on having a good time. They're focused on making sure someone else has the worst day of their life."

~ SlappinFace

Hi everyone,

It's map-drop time! This time, we have a corp-style hacker farm called "The Nexus".

This cyberpunk battle map was completely inspired by a recent Jason Statham movie called "The Beekeeper" (check it out if you haven't already).

The map idea was seeded by one of the regular members over at the Discord server, "Aurorachyn". The idea received plenty of traction in terms of upvotes, so naturally I went ahead with the creation process.

The Hacker Farm

The Nexus is about a powerful corporate entity that runs many hacker farms like this one, at multiple locations. This is just one farm. The group runs its hacking operations for a multitude of different reasons, but most of the time it boils down to money, power and other nefarious plot points.

Netrunners are also utilized in attacking high-value, high-security individuals and entities. The hackers plug into the "chairs" (the Neural Interface Terminals) but hacking in this way generates plenty of heat. The chairs then have the appropriate tech to keep the user temps down.

Now, it just happens that one of your players is being hacked by a Netrunner stemming from this location. Why? Reason - "unknown". Send the rest of the team in to investigate.

A Map-chaining Idea

"Aurorachyn", "TheFlatline42" and "LukeTheGM" did point out that this map might chain well with the Police Precinct map I created a while back. This area might just represent the anti-cybercrime division of the police.

This is why I love you guys :)

Map Variants

(Note: there are many more Network Schematic variants included but not shown here. See variant descriptions below)

Body Scanner

An increased security measure. A body scanner (that is actually a metal detector) is added at the lift lobby. Also, the reception desk is now a security desk with a baggage x-ray scanner to eliminate the risk concealed weapons entering the Nexus.

(This variant is provided in "tile" format)

Re-cabling Day

Every server farm requires maintenance and re-cabling/re-organization at some point. It just had to be today, didn't it? What else can go wrong on a day like this?

Network Schematics

A big shout out to "Awiz" from the Discord server for coming up with this variant idea. A salute to the many members (too many to name) who helped guide the creation of the Network Schematic Variants and also other variant ideas. You guys are warriors!

These schematics are meant to be hand outs for your players to help them figure out how they may breach The Nexus. Each of the schematic diagrams cover a different network protocol (utilities, security, heat dissipation etc). Hacking the network however won't be easy as it is air-gapped. It'll have to be tackled in stages.

Hacking the network may well involve a physical presence to set up a vulnerability, a wi-fi uplink or worst of all, cable splicing.

Air-Gapped

For this variant, the whole office network is air-gapped. This schematic shows how the isolated local network is connected together.

Public Access Point

This schematic shows the uplink public access points that allows users to access the internet.

Security

Schematics for the security network - doors, cameras, elevators.

Utilities

Schematics for networked general utilities, like lights, screens, motion sensors, vending machines etc.

Thermal Pipes

This schematic covers how the extreme amounts of heat gets routed via thermal pipes to the vapor chamber located against the western wall.

Blank DIY Background

I have also included a blank background of the Nexus for those of you who are extra-creative and want to lay out network schematics in your own style. Go nuts!

Fight Gym

Dimensions - (12 x 15)
Resolution - 2400 x 3000
DPI - 200

"The venue is a blinding barrage of sound and smell. Sweat and blood drips on to worn steel and blistered plastic, as bulging monuments to muscle and power work their tools. Light fills the space, highlighting every bristling bicep and colossal calf.

The elevated fighting ring in the middle is illuminated like a pedestal to the gods, with two gladiators sparring and jousting with every inch they can muster. The walls might be covered with neon screens and the ceiling draped with lighting rigs, but this is a place straight out of ancient history.

A primal testament to humanity's drive to be better, a couple of idle spectators cheer on as one of the duelists takes one knockout blow too many. They spin away, collapsing on the ropes as fresh blood sprays the pristine white floor of the ring.

There are no cheering crowds, there are no eager masses watching the spectacle. Everyone has their own iron to pump and muscles to strain.

Who's next?"

~ SlappinFace

Hi everyone!

I am excited to present to you my latest cyberpunk battle map, "The Fight Gym".

This facility is an underground boxing/MMA-style training gym set within an old warehouse. (I do love my warehouse settings).

The premises is not large but contains the main training apparatuses. The center of the space is a fighting ring used for sparring but occasionally see's real bare knuckle challenge fights.

To the GM's: The Fight Gym is a great way to introduce to your players a new fixer, a murder mystery,  hired muscle, gang turf war negotiations etc. There is plenty of use cases here that will fit right into your TTRPG campaign.

Now, let's take a look at the map variants from this map pack...

Battle Map Variants

Hidden Cases

Several metal luggage cases that were stashed under the stage have been discovered. What's in them? Weapons? Illegal cyberware enhancements? Illicit substances? It's up to you, my creative game masters!

(This battle map variant is provided in tile format.)

Weapons Rack

Since many of you on the Discord server have requested it, I have added a tile that contains a couple of racks lined with melee weapons. Enjoy!

(This battle map variant is provided in tile format.)

Blood Sport

Blood stains on the off-white canvas. This variant suggests that perhaps the training methods used at this gym has been taken up a couple of notches, or the ring has seen a couple of bare knuckle (or melee weapon) fights.

The Night Cleaner

The gym lights dim. It's closing time. A scruffy long-haired janitor goes about his usual routine of cleaning the blood and sweat off the ring floor.

No one has ever had a close look at his face but some say the janitor was an undefeated champion in bare knuckle fights, years ago. A natural born killer.

The Bad Bet

A dismembered body with cybernetic limbs lies in a pool of blood in the ring. Word on the street is that two king pin bosses from opposing gangs pitted their best fighters against each other for a bet.

Abandoned Subway Station

Battle Map Dimensions - (15 x 27) squares
Image resolution - 2100 x 3780 px
DPI - 140

The place lays quiet and broken now, but you can still feel the energy and vibrations that carried through these platforms. The trains lay dormant and dead on the tracks, imprisoned by the rails and concrete and doomed to run no more.

Graffiti and cracks replace the adverts and information boards that once covered the walls, like wrinkles and scars spreading across this face of transportation. You could once shoulder through crowds and take a train to anywhere and make a new start, but the only thing starting here now are the weeds and rats thriving in the dark and dusty tomb.

~ SlappinFace

Welcome to the Abandoned Subway Station everyone! Thanks for that classy intro maestro SlappinFace, your words set the tone of what's to come as always.

Rather than ramble on about my journey with this one, I have included a time-lapse video showing you my map design, planning and painting process.  Thankfully, I did not forget to hit the record button before starting this piece.

Map Variants

Vacant Train Tracks

This variant is devoid of the train, for those of you who just want to run with a more deadly combat scenario with a lot less cover.

Train Interior

This variant provides an interior view of the train cars and is supposed to be used in conjunction with the next set of variants.

Train Roof Covers (Left, Mid, Right)

Three .PNG files (with transparency) of the roofs of the train cars are provided. These are to be stacked as layers on top of the "Train Interior" variant as "canopy layers" via your favorite virtual tabletop software (Roll20, Foundry VTT, Fantasy Grounds etc).

Chinese Restaurant Kitchen

Dimensions - [13 x 11] squares
Image resolution - 1540 x 1820
DPI - 140

The kitchen is perfect chaos as you enter. Gleaming chrome smeared with sauce and seasoning, pristine pans overflowing with bubbling smell. People shout in anger and in jest as they brew and stew, eyes filled with focus as their hands dance to a beat they're far too familiar with.

Waiters shoulder charge through doors and snatch steaming plates sat waiting on scuffed counters, yelling feedback and insults at the throng of chefs churning around the ovens and appliances.

A roaring blast of frosted air bursts from the freezer as someone retrieves some kind of chilled protein, elegantly sidestepping barrels of broth and jugs of juice before slamming the metal door and diving back into the organized culinary riot.

~ SlappinFace

Thanks as always for the killer intro, SlappinFace!

Hi everyone!

As promised in my previous map release, here is the "Chinese Restaurant Kitchen", the follow up to the Dragon House Chinese Restaurant

Most of what I have to say about this battle map pack is all about the variants. So without further ado, let's take a look at them!

Battle Map Variants

Hell's Inferno

The members over at the Discord server were polled and everyone who responded said they wanted fire in the kitchen. I suppose it makes sense. So here it is.

The last time I had to paint/draw fire was also in a kitchen sort of setting (see Guard Station / Brig - Arcology Series). That fire was full-on. This time, it's a lot more intense.

The fire partially blocks the main door leading in from the restaurant, and totally blocks the back door (which most likely leads to a back alley or something). Great time to trap some characters in a room with a count-down timer or test player heroics.

Human Dumplings

Xiao Long Bao's anyone? We all know that Chinese dumplings taste amazing. But the ones made at this kitchen are next-level. Why? Well, there's one secret ingredient.

This map variant includes some chopped up human body parts that's sure to add that pinch of gore to your scenarios. The PC's are going to be pissed to learn what they just ate and will want to hunt down this diabolical chef.

Weekly Delivery

This variant creates a little less space, and a little more cover and chaos to the kitchen, which otherwise would be considered quite spacious.

Once a week, the kitchen gets a large delivery of common groceries and cooking ingredients. These large cardboard boxes and crates take up the kitchen floorspace for a few hours at a time until properly stored.

Use cases:

  • Player characters can gain back door entry to the restaurant during delivery sessions.
  • Crates and boxes can provide some sort of light cover in combat scenarios.
  • Explosives can be hidden in delivery boxes that lead to kitchen fires and other catastrophic scenarios.

This variant idea was brought to you buy "LinkIcefang" and "TheFlatline42" (members over at the Discord server). Thanks guys!

Mahjong Den

I recently watched a Netflix series called "The Brothers Sun". Pretty good flick actually starring Michelle Yeoh. The series showcased many common scenes from American Chinese culture. One of them's the Mahjong gambling backrooms that tend to pop up in the most unsuspecting places. Commonly, they're found in the backrooms of kitchens, laundromats etc.

This map variant is a tile that you overlay in your favorite VTT (virtual tabletop software) such as Foundry VTT, Roll20 etc. The reason I used a tile in this case is so that you can combine this with the other map variants in this pack, such as "Hell's Inferno" and "Weekly Delivery".

That's all for now folks! Thank you again for supporting my work and I look forward to filling you all in again on the next map.

Dragon House Chinese Restaurant

"You can feel the eyes of the great golden dragon glare down as you enter the restaurant, sound and smell assaulting your senses. The gaze of the dragon is both comforting and intimidating, as the wafting scent of steaming bao buns and sizzling succulent chicken envelops you.

The soft glow of the lighting and ornaments soaks everything in the restaurant, like being wrapped in a blanket of opulence. The dark polished tables almost look as if they've been set on fire, the surface burning as plates, drinks and arms are laid on them. The clientele is equally aglow, engaged and entranced by either the food or the company sat next to them.

Corporate executives discuss business around large white round tables whilst knocking back glasses of amber liquid, gang members with glistening tattoos stuff their faces during a respite between jobs, a man sits opposite an empty chair and a plate of food going cold."

Howdy everyone!

January has been quite the month for me and life is keeping me busy and on my toes. I hope you've all been excellent and well. I know from historic yearly patterns, many of you are just starting to ramp up your TTRPG campaigns around this time - it's always great to see the community buzzing and coming out of hibernation after the holiday season(s).

For the final map of January, I present to you my latest creation in all its painterly glory. "The Dragon House Chinese Restaurant" is an establishment where your cyberpunk players can approach new fixers, do deals (or interrupt them) with different mafia mobs, gather intel, and pull off some Hong Kong Cinema-style fight scenes.

The battle map was requested by one of our regular Discord server members, 'Half Baked Cat'. The idea of a Chinese Restaurant battle map set in a cyberpunk setting was an immediate home-run for many of the community members over at Discord as well as myself. I've always wanted to draw a gold Chinese Dragon and this was the perfect opportunity to flex a bit.

PS: I managed to capture the initial few hours of my design process in a time-lapse video. Posted it at the top of this page.

Where's The Kitchen?

Fret not people. A kitchen battle map is coming, imminently. Give me a week or so. The kitchen will be a standalone map with its own set of variants that should give gamemasters a many more game scenario and narrative options. Stay tuned!

Map Variants

Second Level & Ground Floor (Canopy)

This variant provides a canopy layer (in .PNG format) that you overlay on top of the ground floor base layer (provided) within your favorite VTT (virtual tabletop gaming software).

Flipped Tables

Okay. This is one is gonna be great for you guys who like messing with jigsaw puzzles.

I've taken 90% of the tables on the ground floor and flipped them into a defensive position, for either the players or the enemy. I've never created this many defensive barricades before but I know a lot of you love them so I went all out.

The flipped tables are broken down into small groups of rectangular tiles. There are 10 replaceable tiles in total that represent flipped tables across different areas of the restaurant. The VTT set up will be a little bit more tedious than you've been used to but the end effect should be worth it.

Anyway, that is all I have in terms of input for now. Let me know down below in the comments what you think of this battle map and how you plan to use it. Thank you again for all your support guys. Couldn't have done it without you all.

Rundown Hotel

Dimensions - (18 x 12) squares
Image size - 3600 x 2400 px
1 sq - 5 ft
DPI - 200

The lights flicker and cast broken shadows over the cracked tiles. Scrawled artwork and messages are briefly illuminated, the only decoration in this worn out corridor. It's stagnant and still, but punctuated by noise and disrupted by vibration.
In an adjacent room the launderette hums and thuds away as addicts argue and haggle over the duffel bags sat between them in the ajar door, eyes wild and unfocused. A kid plays with a broken bottle in the corridor next to them, sat outside a door with loud thuds coming from inside.

Down the hall, the owner of the motel pounds on the door of a very stubborn tenant who clearly has outstayed their welcome. They return to their post at the desk, idly picking at the scabs on their chrome whilst sat in the dim blue glow of their computer.

Gang members with glowing eyes and tattoos covering what's left of their skin eye you cautiously as you stand in the corridor, working out whether you're a threat to whatever their business is. They step back inside their cramped room as you see a flash of red from inside, before the door seals shut and locks tight.

~ SlappinFace

Hi everyone!

I hope that all of you had a good holiday season and that you're ready to get rolling with your TTRPG campaigns.

Here is the first map to welcome 2024 - the "Rundown Hotel". This battle map is another one that was requested and voted for by the community over at the Discord server.

Speaking of the Discord server, I'd like to give a massive shoutout to "SlappinFace" for writing these amazing introductions for the map releases. They really set the mood for the scene!

My initial plan for Rundown Hotel was to represent the interior space of the Paradise Hotel featured in one of the variants of The Favelas map. But as I worked through the design, I soon realized that the Rundown Hotel could be an even more versatile map that could fit into a variety of locations within a Cyberpunk setting.

The two issues:

  • The Paradise Hotel has a rooftop balcony and creating a balcony map would mean showing the outside area surrounding the hotel as well. This would limit the hotel to being used only with the Favela map.
  • The Paradise Hotel is a lot smaller than the Rundown Hotel. In this case, more rooms allows for more play flexibility in your games. I wanted you guys to have more rooms to utilize.

Thus, I opted for a larger, two-level hotel that could be plopped into any location. I think this is a much better compromise.

Here is the initial sketch of the map.

Map Variants

Rundown Hotel

This is the base map describing a single-level hotel. It comes with 5 small to mid-sized basic rooms and a master suite (at the end of the corridor) with its own kitchenette. Near the main entrance is a laundromat for the guests to perform their own laundry duties.

Two-Level Ground Floor

This is where the variants begin. The area with the ATM is removed and replaced with a stairwell that leads to the second level.

Two-level Upper Floor

This map describes the second story of the building. The reception area is removed and instead of a laundromat, we have a large shared kitchen space. This level has 7 small to mid-sized rooms and a master suite.

Crime Scene Massacre

Blood soaked bed sheets, splatters across the wall and bloody drag marks on the carpet. Something gruesome happened here and it is up to your players to figure out what happened before it happens again.

This map variant comes in tile format.

Crime Scene Tape

Adds police tape to barricade the crime scene investigation area. This variant is best used for a post mortem type of investigation where the players may double back to the crime scene to look for something that they might have missed, only to discover something, or someone new awaiting them.

Tile format.

Duffle Bags

Here we have 3 duffle bags laid out on a bed in one of the small rooms towards the end of the corridor. What is in those bags? Drugs, money, guns? You decide!

That's all folks! Enjoy the map pack and let me know how you'll use it in your games in the comments below.

The Cyberpunk Favelas

Battle Map Details:
Dimensions - [51 x 35] squares
Grid scale - 1 sq = 5 feet
DPI - 100
Image resolution - 5100 x 3500 px

This area is a dump, an utter landfill of a location. That's the literal definition, if the swaying pile of garbage being picked through hadn't already tipped you off. The sanitisation plant is clearly struggling to hold back the tide of rubbish, but this heap has given rise to new life. Compost and manure bring forth new growth, and as you weave through the abandoned shipping containers and patchy tarpaulins of the favela, you can see it here too.

Taste the dirt, inhale the foul landfill musk, blink the bright unrelenting sun from your eyes as it peels and blisters everything in the area. But this place is alive, and thriving better than some districts of the city. Businesses recycle waste to new designs, kids repurpose discarded clothing, families utilize thrown out appliances.

Homes and lives are growing in this shipping container and sheet metal shanty town, and it's all thanks to the pile of garbage dumped here.

~ SlappinFace

This large cyberpunk battle map was a monster for me to work on and it took a lot more work than I had anticipated. When there isn't a structured layout and everything is supposed to be a chaotic mess, it's a little more tricky to draw something that makes logical sense. In the case of this Favelas map, there were a lot of iterations, drawing, re-drawing. That is what took up the most time.

It'll be worth it though because the Favelas is going to be a key location.  This one map can spawn multiple other locations that will show off more of the area, such as the waste sanitization plant.

Someone once said that I should post more behind-the-scenes stuff as some people really enjoy perusing that kind of art content. So here are some screenshots showing the earlier stages of this battle map.

Map Variants

Hotel Paradise

The name of this variant is ironic of course because what we have here is a ramshackled building that stands next to a landfill heap. The rust drip stained walls, sand blistered paint and that pathetic basketball half-court up front with a lopsided ring that even Jordan himself would have trouble hooping on. This establishment has no business being in business.

Your players are bound to come across some interestingly dangerous characters who run this joint. Just let your players know that here at the Hotel Paradise, they can check out any time they like, but they can never leave.

The Silo

This one was highly inspired by the Apple TV series "The Silo", starring Rebecca Ferguson. Absolutely loved the series and the final scene in the season was forever seared in my mind. This scene basically revealed to the viewers that all the characters were living in an abandoned missile silo, and there were many silos scattered across the landscape.

With this map variant, there is also a tunnel nearby that leads down into the silo. Another area to possibly expand upon in the near future!

Accelerated Growth

This one was more for the Shadowrun RPG crew where there's always something weird and magical happening because well - magic exists. But I tried to keep this one usable for the non-Shadowrun folks too.

What we have here is an overgrown tree with pink leaves that has managed to grow and flourish despite the arid landscape. Its roots reaching out towards power sources. Curious!

Happy Holidays & An Important Note

As most of you know, I normally release two maps per month. But this month, I'm going to be only releasing this one map. It's been over two years since I've taken time off and it's due time. I shall resume map work from 2 January 2024.

A reminder for those of you who are new to my Patreon - you get charged on a PER Map basis, meaning if I only release one map, you'll get charged for that one map and that is all. This is not a monthly subscription.

So, Merry Christmas to all you chooms, chummers and everything in between! Thank you again for being so supportive of my battle map work. I wish you all the happiest festive season ever and all the very best for the new year. For those of you working through the holidays, chin up - I know what it's like and you're all champions in my eyes.

Warehouse Library

Dimensions - [13 x 22] squares

Grid scale - 1 square = 5 ft

DPI - 200

Image resolution - 2600 x 4400

You've left the loud, suffocating modern world behind, and stepped into an isolated slice of history. A damaged white marble replica statue Caesar and and intricate painting of an unknown Pharaoh survey and keep watch over the forest of books. The soft hum of a large mainframe computer provide the accompanying soundtrack to your walk through time.

You spot the proprietor perusing several tomes in his elevated workstation, bathed in blue flickering light like an alchemist consulting recipes or a wizard researching new spells. Standing firm and resolute below him is the entrance to a vault, the value and cost of the surrounding room begging the question of what could be hidden away so securely. One thing's for sure, he's a serious collector.

The modern and old world mix together in this place, with nimble drones navigating overfilled bookshelves and dusting worn works of art. You scan the spines of books as you walk along the lanes of old tomes, soaking in knowledge from the titles alone.

˜ SlappinFace

Hey all,

Thanks SlappinFace for that amazing intro. The guy's a bit of a wordsmith and has recently been writing these evocative descriptions for my new maps. Just a shout-out.

So without further ado, I'd like to present to you my latest battle map design - “The Warehouse Library”.

The initial map idea for this library came from the Discord server where the characters “Nostradamus” from Cyberpunk 2077 was mentioned. There is a short paragraph in the 2077 wiki that mentions this space but it leaves much to the imagination.

I wanted my own spin on this and felt inspired to create a gritty space that describes the lair of an eccentric old proprietor who is a curator and avid collector of old paper books (which are very scarce in the future) and other antiquities. You could consider this place a mini library-museum of sorts.

I enjoyed the painting process for this battle map as I feel I managed to capture that worn out, gritty feeling without overdoing it. The map has a soft mood lighting about it that I can’t quite put into words. I’ll let you be the judge. Let me know how you like it in the comments below!

Map Variants

The Vault

The first of The Vault map variants reveals to the players what might be stored behind the 1.5 ft thick steel door. Rare tomes, magic scrolls (for you Shadowrun RPG Folks), priceless artifacts etc.

Vault Stairs

In this variant, part of the vault space has been replaced by a flight of stairs leading down into the darkness. What lies below is up to you, creative game-masters! I see it as an escape route to the sewers (see - Sewers Collection). Come to think of it, the Sewer Canals highlights a barge that transports all sorts of junk. That could explain how the proprietor sources his inventory.

Security Lasers

I’m sure that you’ve already noticed that there is no front door depicted on this battle map. This design is intentional.

I thought it would be cool to create some sort of barrier to entry for those who require it, so here we go - an array of searing red, hot lasers.

Working Drones

The book sorting and handling duties in the library are taken care of by small aerial drones that work tirelessly. Since they are small and don't hold much of a charge, they need to be recharged frequently at their docking station (bottom right of map).

There are three drones flying around on this map variant. But the charging station hints to there being more drones being charged within.

Drone Token

(Not shown here in screenshot but available in your downloads folder)

I’ve included a .PNG token of the drone that you can use should your players want to engage with them. These drones are not made for combat and are not armed except for a pair of skinny arms. They could pose a bit of a hinderance if there was a small army of them though.

Guns Marketplace

Battle map dimensions - 15 x 18 squares

Image resolution - 3000 x 3600 px

1 sq - 5 ft

DPI - 200

"The bars clang as the door swings back into place, keeping the intimidating display of personal safety hidden away in this dark and dingy market. Your skin itches as you browse the wares, unsure if it's the heat and spent rounds doing it or the sight of so many tools devoted to killing your fellow man.

The owner glares at you from behind his counter, the scars etched on to his body either a testament to how effective his merchandise is or a perfect example of why you should buy as much as possible and leave quickly. The rows of rifles behind him look especially deadly, although not quite as bad as the look he's giving you right now.

A couple of muffled honks draw him away form his staring, as clearly some sort of delivery has eclipsed his interest in staring a hole through your skull. Looking around further you spot a shooting range tucked off to the side, in case you weren't adequately impressed with the doomsday aesthetic of the weapon you've picked out. An attendant nods to you as he lights up a cigarette, and you try to ignore the smears of dried scarlet against the wall where the targets are lined up.

You settle on just grabbing a pistol and some extra rounds to fill it with, hurrying over to the counter to complete your transaction as quickly as possible. The delivery has been unloaded whilst you've been browsing, large pallets covered in opaque plastic. It could be dirty bombs, hijacked military surplus, or enough ammo to level a skyscraper. But you're not sticking around to find out, as you practically throw your cash at the owner and get out fast.

Whether it's the new piece tucked into your coat or finally being back out in the not so fresh air, you feel much safer now."

~ SlappinFace

Hi everyone!

Here’s a new cyberpunk battle map for y’all - a guns marketplace! A place where your players can go buy their weaponry essentials and ogle at the cyberpunk gear they cannot afford.

This is yet another battle map that has been highly requested for a while now. Initially, it was meant to be a typical single guns store. But as I started drawing, I just was not feeling the smaller space - don’t ask me why, it’s just a gut feeling.

So as I started expanding the size of the shop, a few of you on the Discord server asked for a shooting range to be included so players can test out the hardware. And so I decided to add multiple vendors and a weapons repair shop, complete with a target practice shooting range to make this a full-fledged guns market instead.

I really had a good time drawing and painting this map. Adding a lot of dirt and texture to the map’s canvas really made me smile. These really accentuates that Cyberpunk mood and ambience (in my opinion anyway).

Alright then, let’s look at what variants we have in store today…

Map Variants

Display Cabinet Raid

In the middle of the room, we have two separate display cabinets showcasing some expensive weaponry and tech. The contents of which are secured via metal grilled cabinet doors.

In this variant, someone had performed a well-executed heist and raided the cabinet for something. Your players arrive at the scene to discover the remnants of what wasn’t stolen.

New Stock Arrival

Once a week (or month, or whatever you deem ideal), the vendors get new stock delivered. Sometimes, it’s just restocking the same old hardware, but at other times there’s exciting new tech to be had.

Off to the side of the back delivery door are two trolley carts of new products, ready to be unpacked.

Delivery Day

This variant gives the players a day-time view of a potential parking lot behind the guns marketplace. There is a white delivery truck parked, ready to offload some new stock.

Target Practice

At the shooting range, your players discover a dead body of a male with his head blown off and cranial fragments splattered against the wall. Someone had one hell of a weapon to take a head off in one shot. Time to investigate!

Frag Maps' Cyberpunk Vehicle Tokens

Hey guys,

Is that time of the month again for another content drop, but this time we have a little something different.

Since I published my first ever cyberpunk battle map three years ago, my supporters been asking me to create vehicle tokens. I had to decline this requests because most of my battle maps featured indoor locations where having vehicles present made little sense.

Times have changed and lately I've been putting out rather large battle maps (and will continue to do so down the track). Now, vehicle tokens have become quite crucial.

So I have spent the past week and a half drawing cyberpunk cars, bikes, trucks, APCs, etc. I hope you like them.

I took a break from drawing for a bit today to step outside for some sun and that good old vitamin D. I live near a main road and as I watched cars drive by, I realized right then that I don't want to see another car for a while.

Vehicle Token Sets

These are all the vehicles I drew and I've decided to distribute them to all of you in the following way:

Set 1

These are your typical cyberpunk civilian vehicles ranging from sedans, muscle cars, a motorcycle, police vehicles and SUV's.

Set 2

This set features heavy vehicles and quite a few of them have been heavily inspired by Cyberpunk 2077. These are your armored APC, Thornton Colby "Little Mule" style off-road pickups, limousine, container truck and another motorbike. You get the drift.

Set 3

This final set contains a heavy AV (aerial vehicle) seen in the Shin Tokyo map, but re-drawn to be clearer and from a pure top-down angle. Other additions include an anti-grav (Militech Basilisk-style) tank, a large drone, and vehicle variants from the Set 1.

Important Note

Also included with EACH set are the following:

- Night versions of each token

- 2 different resolutions: 140 & 100 DPI - these are the resolutions I use for my outdoor maps that support vehicles. So when you load in the tokens, use the right size variants so you don't have to resize them in your virtual tabletop software.

For the future

Let me know if you guys want to see more specialist vehicle tokens in the future, in the comments below.

Central Highway [Cyberpunk]

Grid Dimensions - 73 x 45

Scale - 1 sq = 10 ft

Image resolution - 7300 x 4500 px

DPI - 100

"The city glows in shades of neon purple as the police assemble their roadblock, worn down and battered police cars rolling into position to help slow the flow of traffic into the city. Rumblings of violent conflicts are growing, tensions rising as the police officers grip their standard issue pistols even more tightly.

The honking of car horns and shouting of grumpy commuters is silenced as a thundering boom splits the air. A floor of a building overlooking the congested roadblock detonates, showering the onlookers with glass, metal and fire.

The police begin shouting out of fear and confusion, but it's mere moments before the shouts turn to screams as their police cars are consumed by fire and heat like the building that's now ablaze.

The drawbridge slams into place on the highway as the firefight unfolds, trapping civilians, police officers and unknown aggressors together in a fiery battle beneath the shades of neon purple."

Hi all!

This new cyberpunk city battle map is coming in a little late - it took me quite a while to complete. But here’s presenting “Central Highway”.

Shoutout to “Zaylo” - from the Frag Maps Discord server for coming up with the name and idea for the map. The map isn’t really about just the highway per se but also the surrounds. The key areas for this map (for me) would be:

  • The highway that runs down the middle of the city and leads out towards the water via a drawbridge
  • This stretch of highway is just begging for an street drag race (just sayin')
  • The above ground terminus train station
  • The multi-level parking garage
  • And waterfront jetties

Other areas of interest: multiple corporate buildings, smaller shop lots, overhead pedestrian crossings, small parks.

Map Chaining

The obvious ones that Central Highway would narratively tie into would be the following:

The Biggest & Baddest

Just when I thought Shin Tokyo and the Hydro Dam were big. Central Highway is by far the largest cyberpunk map that I’ve created in the history of Frag Maps. Due to the sheer coverage size, the map lends itself to a host of different scenarios, epic sniping and combat opportunities, and a lot more than I could suggest via the map variants created. What I’d be interested in, is hearing from you guys (in the comments below) about the kind of scenarios that you’d run on Central Highway.

The Time For Vehicles

Vehicle tokens have been something that has been requested of me for a very long time. Since the inception of Frag Maps actually. I’ve put this off for a long time, for valid reasons that I won’t bore you with here.  However, because I’ve been putting out really large battle maps of late, I feel the time is nigh. After all, what’s a giant highway map with no playable vehicle tokens, right?

So, here is what I’ll do for you all. For the next post release, instead of a map,  I’ll create a large vehicle tokens sheet with an assortment of cars, trucks,  AV’s, APC’s etc. - and whatever else gets me excited.

So hang in there for one more week (and a bit), and ye shall feast upon vehicles tokens.

Map Variants

PS: Please ignore the diagonal construction lines you see in some of the screenshots below. These were screenshots taken from my drawing program - forgot to switch them off before taking the screeners. The actual map files do not contain these lines, don't worry.

No Cars

This variant is for those of you who want to use your own (or wait for me to release mine) vehicle tokens to populate the map. Also useful for instances where you want the streets to be empty for a street race.

Drawbridge Up

As mentioned earlier, the main highway stretches through the city and out towards the water and across the bridge (another map I might expand into soon). Most lower lying road bridges either have the ability to rotate or lift, to let boats pass through underneath.

This variant sets the bridge to the raised position.

Police Roadblock

Your players just robbed a bank, hacked a corporate server, have a key corporate figure in custody, or want to drag race? Well, the cops are ready and waiting with a roadblock set up to prevent them from leaving the city.

Roadblock Explosion

I'll leave the explanation up to you guys on this one. I just wanted to paint some exploding cop cars just 'cause they look cool on fire.

Building Explosion

I really enjoyed painting explosions and fire, and thought it would be epic to see a building's glass facade get blasted with shrapnel flying everywhere. So I created this variant.

But as an after-thought, something like this would be a great distraction for law enforcement while the perps get to do something else (like escape from the city via the water).

Thanks For Your Support

I’d like to thank you all again for supporting what I do, and sharing the same passion for these maps. I have gotten to know many of my Patreon supporters on a personal level via Discord and the friends I’ve made via Frag Maps has been a truly breathtaking experience.

Though I’m really busy with drawing these maps, I’m always looking forward to meeting more of you over at the Discord Server where we talk shop and map ideas.

Koi Hotel Room - Executive Suite

Battle map dimensions - [22 x 18] squares

Grid scale - 1 sq = 5 ft

Image resolution - 4400 x 3600 px (at 200 pixels per square)

Hey all,

I hope everyone’s well and ramping up their campaigns towards the holiday season!

Fresh out of the oven, I present to you the Koi Hotel Executive Suite! This cyberpunk battle map continues on from the Koi Hotel Series that I’ve been chipping away at. Check out the link to the map Collection to see the whole set.

I’m going to keep the fluff short this time as it is late over here in Australia and I’ve been at it the whole day just to get this one out in time. I’m just going to put it out there, this is one of the best indoor battle maps that I’ve done to date (personal opinion), and I’m over the moon with how this map pack turned out. I hope you’ll love it too.

Oh wait, before we go there, I’d like to thank my Patreon supporters over at the Discord server for helping me finalize the design for this map and also the variants.

Okay, variants time.

Map Variants

Executive Suite

This is the main base map. A very large executive hotel room perched high up with a view of the night city below. By the way, I can’t wait to start working on a massive highway map next month. You can see me warming up my artistic muscles and getting ready for what’s to come. Exciting…

The executive suite is usually reserved for societal elites and high-ranking corporate folk. It is uber-spacious with a small office, dining area, bar and a service elevator. I was thinking of adding a kitchenette but it messed with the overall aesthetics so I left it out. Besides, if the suite’s occupants want food, they’d just order it up via the service elevator because well, they're loaded.

Balcony Forced Entry

Signs of forced entry - the glass sliding doors to the balcony have been smashed and there are glass shards all over the floor. What happened here and how did the intruders gain access to the balcony? Was it from the rooftop or from the adjacent balcony? (If you look closely to the top-left of the map, you’ll see the balcony of the suite next door).

The Deal - Attaché Cases

Three attaché are on the living room’s table. A perfect variant with which to host a deal, currency handover, or something else along those lines.

Chain this variant with the Forced Entry variant, and you can have your players rappelling in from the roof and onto the balcony, just in time to stop the deal from happening.

Standard Suite

I thought this one might be super useful to a lot of you for representing the stock standard hotel rooms present in the Koi Hotel. After all, not everyone can afford executive suites, especially when they’re just starting out.

This small battle map could also represent the suite next door to the executive suite where the players get geared up and ready to get the jump on two criminal king pins.

Alright people time to post this. Let me know in the comments below how you like this map and if you do, hit the Like button too so I know. I’m always looking at the stats on each post to know how well I’m doing.

Shin Tokyo

Image resolution - 6440 x  4200

Map dimensions- 46 x 30 grid squares

Grid scale - 1 sq = 10 ft

DPI - 140

Hey everyone,

It's time yet again and I am excited to present to you another very large outdoors cyberpunk battle map - "Shin Tokyo".

This piece was highly inspired by the "Shibuya Scramble Crossing" located in Tokyo, but with my own twists added in. One of the key points of interest I feel that is important for you GM's to note, is the railway station and the multiple subway entrances that lead to the station, located throughout the map.

After the Terminus Station, I never created a follow-up landing map where your players could get off the train, my apologies. Except for maybe the Shopping Mall - but that was supposed to be right next to Terminus anyway. So let's call this one the first. I'll be creating more interesting drop off points with connecting train stations very soon, so stay tuned.

This battle map encompasses a fairly large space, although many of you snipers would probably say it's not enough. The last time I tried something this large was with the Hydro Water Dam but  that was a piece of cake to work on compared to this monster of a map.

It was fun working on this map and I learned a lot from the experience. Dealing with so many details over a significantly large space is still something I'm trying to manage from a time and labor perspective. I'm hoping that you guys will love this piece.

Okay, enough rambling. Let's quickly go through the map variants.

Map Variants

Shin Tokyo (Night)

After dusk. Neon lit signboards. The air smells moist, the street soaked in light rain, but that won't stop the crowds from roaming the night city. It definitely shouldn't stop you - the GM from plunging your players into an epic combat showdown within these streets, against the mob, law enforcement, or a total badass big boss (or whatever you have in your arsenal).

3 Car Pile-up

The local law enforcement has cordoned off the intersection due to a multi-car pile up. What happened here? From the looks of it, a yellow sports car attempted to side swipe a military grade armored truck and failed. The military vehicle had to have been transporting something really important however, judging by the number of cop cars in the area.

3 Car Pile-up (Night)

Everything I said above, but it happened at night.

Air Support - Police AV

Okay here is where things get interesting. Your players have had a stroke of luck (or bad luck) because of this car accident situation. They have minutes to get what they need done before police air support arrives. Things get exponentially harder for them after. Tick tock.

Police Precinct

Base level battle map dimensions - [18 x 25] squares

PPI - 200

Grid scale - 1 sq = 5 ft

Image resolution - 3600 x 5000 pixels

Howdy to all my very awesome Patreon supporters!

We've reached the end of the month again, and I've got another epic cyberpunk battle map for you - "The Police Precinct".

I'm currently working through the older backlog of map requests and this has been one that's been asked for time and time again. The reason that I've not attempted this map till now, is because I didn't want the usual run of the mill type police station battle map. You know me, I try and aim for epic-looking art whenever possible. Well, I hope my version of a police precinct inspires you all!

This police precinct is made up of two levels:

Base Level

On the ground level, we have:

The main entry and side entry foyer and waiting area. Where civilians come and wait their turn to report crime or get help.

Beyond two bullet proof security glass sliding doors, lies the general desk/work area where police detectives do their thing.

Towards the eastern wall, we have a questioning room, suspect identification viewing room and the actual ID room itself. There is a flight of steps leading to the upper level.

(Geez, I just realized whilst typing this. It feels like you guys are in my cyberpunk game and I'm describing what your characters are seeing. Right, let's continue).

In the middle we have a scrum room where the SWAT teams get briefed before going on a mission. That little office space next door is for the Chief of Police.

South of that, we have two holding cells. Just to reiterate, these are holding cells and not prison cells. These are only for temporary (usually overnight) holding of suspects. If sufficient evidence is found to warrant convinction, the perps are then moved to an actual prison that resides somewhere else.

In the south west corner, we have a window to the police armory. This little window is where firearms are issued to the cops as they go on duty. A corridor exists to the side that leads to the back exit (but not to the armory). How would one access the armory? There would be a corridor (not accessible by anyone without a badge) behind the back wall leading to a security door at which the armory lies behind. I did not draw the corridor in because the walls would have covered all of it. Just tell your players a tight corridor runs behind the two behind cells, hidden from view.

Upper Level

Starting from the north end, we have a passageway that opens up to the corridor. That passageway could lead to another part of the police precinct (up to you) but mainly, it provides access to the elevator. Going down the corridor, we have two doors with white doors that are toilets in my mind, but I left them unmarked just in case you want to use them for something else.

In the south-east corner, we have a small locker room where the officers store their personal belongings. Adjacent to that we have a flight of stairs leading down to the ground level.

Moving west, we have a security area with a guard manning a desk and a set of security screens that lead to either a data archive or evidence lockers.

Whew okay. I think I covered most of the crucial points. Here are the variants.

Red Room

Battle map dimensions - [7 x9] squares

Scale: 1 sq = 5 ft

Hi everyone,

To kick August off, I present to you “Braindance (VR) Lounge”.  This is one of my favorite maps of this year and I really enjoyed painting this one up for you all.

Braindance vs. Virtual Reality

For those of you who aren’t Cyberpunk Red players, “Braindance” is basically VR but the difference is that users can integrate their brain-computer interfaces to get the full experience of being in the simulation, without the limitations of just visual and audio cues. Smell, sight, taste and sound provide the ultimate virtual experience.

There are some other cyberpunk settings that have similar technology as well. One that I know of is “Altered Carbon”.

Braindance, otherwise known as “BD” is addictive. Overusing the technology can lead to mental and physical deterioration. It is also common for users to eventually lose themselves and their personalities after being in someone else’s shoes for far too long. Coming out of the VR experience, their normal lives are mundane in comparison.

BD is quite in-depth and I won’t harp on about it. A location like this BD lounge can really stir up some great missions and interactions for your player group.

Map Variants

Braindance Lounge (Base Map)

By the way, if you are wondering what the sign “ESF” stands for. This was a fun acronym that one of the Frag Maps Discord users (Aurorachyn) suggested for the name of the BD Lounge. It stands for “Electric Sheep Factory”. (Grins).

This base BD Lounge map includes the following areas of interest:

  • Small bar
  • Multiple lounging areas with drop down user interface jacks
  • A DJ stage
  • "Extreme Experience" booths (higher-end, and more costly Braindance experiences)
  • Cooling chambers - body temps can rise to dangerous levels with some BD experiences and these capsules help users cool off and relax after an intense experience, much like a spa.
  • Monitor room, for Braindance editing. An interesting narrative would be to have a mysterious programmer called “The Sandman”, who is responsible for violent and perverse dreams, and he just happens to work at this BD lounge. Start with that see what your players get up to.

Lounge Patrons (Variant)

The lounge patrons were drawn in on this one because having some signs of life makes all the difference in a space like this. It is especially cool to show them being jacked into the VR experience with headsets on.

The Red Room (Variant)

A door from the BD lounge near the toilet doors leads down a short (or long) flight of stairs to a basement area.

The Red Room is a mini battle map that depicts a secret room in basement but is also designed to be used as a standalone map. You can pull this little guy up at at any point you see fit in your campaign, connecting it with other maps.

This Red Room can serve many different uses and scenarios within your cyberpunk campaign. One of which is a recording/extraction room, where people who need money come to sell their experiences for VR and have the data extracted out of their minds, and edited.

You’ll notice a dirty old mattress on the floor as well as mirrored walls. A common use of Braindance or VR in Cyberpunk lore is sexual fantasies. In this room, lounge patrons can double up on their experiences with the physical aspect (and have others watch through the one-way glass) if they choose to. I am trying my best as I type this, to not get too explicit, but you get the point.

Anyway, that's all I have to say for this map. Please enjoy this battle map and let me know what you think when you see the full-sized piece. Till next time!

Pachinko Parlor

Battle map dimensions - [32 x 24] squares

Scale - 1 sq = 5 ft

Image size - 6400 x 4800 px

Hi everyone,

We’ve arrived at the end of the month again. Time really flies when you’re busy drawing maps, I think! Here is the last cyberpunk map of this month - the “Pachinko Parlor”.

What are Pachinko Parlors?

For those who do not not already know, Pachinko parlors are establishments in Japan where people can play the popular mechanical game of Pachinko, which is similar to a combination of pinball and slot machines. They are often brightly lit and noisy, with rows of machines and a lot of people playing at once. It is a form of gambling which is illegal in Japan, but the funny thing is, these Pachinko arcades can still be found all over the country.

I think this is because you are supposed to trade in the metal Pachinko balls for prizes in the store, but with many of these establishments, you can actually cash the balls in for cash. These come in the form of booths located just outside the premises.

A Front For Other Kinds of Business

In the world of Cyberpunk TTRPG, Pachinko Parlors are oftentimes used as a front for illegal business dealings, money laundering etc. I.e. they are great for keeping the law out of your business.

To the public, the parlor looks like a fun way to pass the time but if one were to look a little deeper into the balance sheets of such an establishment, he or she would know something doesn’t quite add up.

Cyberpunk 2077 even has a short Wiki page with a story around a particular parlor and fixer.

Map Chaining

This map will work well with the Chinatown Alley map that I drew over a year ago. That map in particular actually has the facade of a Pachinko parlor built right in.

Battle Map Variants

Back Office

This is where all the back room shady dealings go down. The back office also doubles as storage and has a simple CCTV security system set up.

Mirror Door

A quick escape passage hidden behind a set of mirror panels. There are stairs leading down which could lead to a basement or sewers (you can lead your players to the Sewers Canal map if you utilize this narrative).

Small Armory

Instead of the escape passage, now the mirror panel opens up to reveal a small armory filled with assault rifles and a safe (possible cash to steal here).

Balloon Mania

With this last variant, the mirror panel opens up and a flood of helium balloons come pouring out of the closet.

This is something you can throw at the players who come into the Pachinko parlor, fully convinced and head-strong that they’re going to find some hidden illicit goods. Just for laughs. I’m sure some of you GM’s can come up with even cooler narratives for all the balloons.

Note: These variants come in tile format. For those who are new here, "Tiles" are small sections of the map that have something different going on. If you use a virtual tabletop software (Foundry VTT, Fantasy Grounds Unity, Roll20 etc) You overlay these tiles on top of the base map to change the narrative, circumstances.

Cyberpunk Casino

Dimensions -  [24 x 36] squares

Image resolution - 3360 x 5040 px

Grid size - 1 sq = 5 ft

Hey there everyone,

And it is time for a brand spanking new battle map - the “Cyberpunk Casino”. My apologies for taking so long to put this one out. This one was extremely challenging for me.

With this project, I realized how difficult it was to make a good-looking casino battle map. While some casinos may look grand and high-end when you’re there in person, they do not transpose well into map art. In short, casinos are a bit of a mess, artistically speaking.

Seeing a casino in person and turning it into a top down battle map that looks good are two totally different things. Well, here is my best attempt at drawing and designing an interior of a grand casino whilst adding my own flavor to it. I hope you guys will like this one.

Pairing Maps

This map was designed to pair (chain) perfectly with the following maps:

Also,  The Nightclub - which is made to look like it is situated in a large complex where there just could be a casino next door.

Map Variants

The variants provided are all geared towards changing the narrative and the location of the casino.

Cyberpunk Casino (Base Map)

This has to be my favorite variant, mainly because of the huge golden Buddha statue that dominates the central void. I've been wanting to draw a giant Buddha statue for a long time so it's great that I can now check it off my list.

The central void itself hints that this map only represents a level and a small area within a much larger complex.

Concert Stage

This map variant turns the central void into a concert stage that comes with a very large hologram performer. The inspiration for this totally came from Blade Runner 2049 and the giant hologram girl played by Ana De Armas.

Space Casino

Here is the variant that a few of you have asked for. A casino located within a large space station.

That’s all for now folks! On to the next map!

Cyberpunk Old Pawn Shop

Dimensions - [18 x 14] grid squares

DPI - 300 pixels per square

Image resolution - 5400 x 4200 pixels

Hey guys,

I’m very excited to present to you, one of my most detailed cyberpunk battle maps ever. Like EVER. This is the Old Pawn Shop. Not only are there tons of details on the base maps, but I’ve also topped it off with a slew of super-useful map variants.

This map knocked the wind out me, literally. As I am writing this, I’m still sniffling and recovering from a bad cold that hit earlier in the week. But I believe it was worth the effort. A pawn shop like this one is a location your players will likely revisit multiple times during a campaign, so it makes sense to put in the time and effort to make it detailed and as re-playable as possible.

Just a Pawn Shop, Or Something More?

The best time to introduce your players to this place is when they’re low in currency and want to hock their old gear. By asking around the streets, hey get introduced to “Al”, the most notorious pawnbroker in the city.

Notorious because everybody knows that this one tiny store sits smack bang in the middle of a massive network of illegal goods trading. From the gangster mobs, drug smugglers to even black market military wares, there’s a good chance that something is placed on hold here.

So many big storylines can bloom, from one little seed. Welcome to Al’s Pawn Shop.

Map Variants

So, as I mentioned above, I do have some nice, juicy variants to finish off the month of June. So without further ado, here they are.

Ransacked Store Room

Your players arrive to the scene with Al looking very concerned. His shop has been ransacked. He tells the players that something important he was told to hold has been stolen, and now he fears for his life.

Basement Stairs

A steel grated, fenced off door way that leads to the basement. This is the perfect opportunity to run with an underground ripper doc clinic narrative. See the connecting Ripper Doc Clinic map here.

Mysterious Military Crate

If your players get a chance to rummage through the pawn shop’s back store room, they might discover a mysterious orange crate. A high-tech, military weapons crate to be precise.

I created this variant just in case you want to run with a storyline that isn’t covered by the variants below.

The Sandevistan

If you guys watched Cyberpunk 2077’s Edgerunner, you would be quite familiar with the Sandevistan - a cyberware spinal implant that gives the show’s protagonist super reflexes and speed. It was a military-grade cyberware implant so all the more fitting it finds itself here in this crate.

PS: I was unable to add any further pixel details to the Sandevistan because it was so darn small. It’s essentially the size of a human spinal column.

The Murderer’s Weapon

In this battle map variant, we see a futuristic, long-range sniper rifle that isn’t standard military issue. Word on the street is that there’s sharp shootin’ psycho running loose in the city, murdering targets from multiple blocks away. The only weapon that might have that sort of accuracy, may just be this one.

Bio Enhancement Drugs

Military-grade bio enhancement drugs. A case full of tubes. Let your imagination go wild.

That’s it from me for today. Have fun with this one guys! Let me know all the interesting things that happened with your games at the pawn shop. I always love hearing your stories.

Container Warehouse

Image size - 5460 x 3920 px

Grid dimensions  - [39x28] (140 pixels per square)

Scale: 1 square = 5 ft

Hey everyone,

I am excited to present "The Container Warehouse" to you all. It's been a while since I’ve had to draw this many details on a cyberpunk battle map, but I think the embellishments really make it special. I’m pretty happy with the way this one turned out and I hope you guys feel the same about it.

A Remastered Warehouse With A Fight Club

The Cyber Warehouse was the second map I created after starting Frag Maps. Since then, I had received numerous requests to create a warehouse that wasn’t  futuristic looking but had more of a rustic look. This was a good opportunity for me to apply what I’ve learned over the past two years in illustration towards an old concept.

In addition, I was able to incorporate another popular map request: a fight ring (or arena). Instead of a stadium, I thought that it would be cool to have an underground fight club that was hosted in an old warehouse. People would stand atop crates and shipping containers to watch the fight.

How Long Did It take?

The Container Warehouse took me a full 14 days to complete which by my standards today, is long.

A large chunk of time went into trying to find a complex yet pleasing lighting set up. There are just so many light sources in this piece: the outside light hitting the corner of the building, the orange incandescent overhead lights that help push the color saturation, and other multiple minor lights that all affect objects nearby in their own ways. I must admit, even I got a bit overwhelmed at some point.

Figuring out other details like the machinery. Trying to incorporate them (because they look cool and warehouses need them) without taking up valuable game play real estate.

Finally there are the figures in the Fight Arena variant. These were all hand drawn individually. Drawing these folks alone took almost a full day but it was fun giving each figure a personality of his/her own.

Map Chaining

This map easily chains with the following maps that I had created previously:

Slums (Ghetto) Markets

The Container Warehouse ties in perfectly with the Slums Markets. There is a passage to the east of that map that leads to this space.

Container Port

The Container Port is another good battle map to combine the Storage Warehouse with. Shipping containers that require longer term storage get moved into this warehouse. Both of these maps have a very similar vibe.

The Back Alley

The Back Alley was drawn a very long time ago and my art style had changed a lot along the way. Narratively speaking, this map chains well because of the loading docks that lead to an obvious old warehouse style facility.

Battle Map Variants

Container Shops

This map variant changes the narrative where the warehouse isn't just used for storage but as part of a live-in community. Shipping containers turned into housing and shopping stalls. Another place where a cyberpunk player might go to get some illegal wares.

This variant makes the most sense when used in conjunction with the Slums Market map.

Fight Arena

Some space is cleared at the center of the warehouse to make space for an MMA-style "octagon" fight ring. Spectators place their bets at the stalls and then climb up the containers to get a better vantage point to watch the carnage.

It'll be fun if one (or two) of your players have to enter the ring and duke it out in order to gain favors, money or intelligence.

That's all I've got to say for now people. Let me know down in the comments below, how you plan to use the Container Warehouse in your campaigns!

Cyberpunk Bank Lobby

Battle map dimensions - [23 x 16] squares

Image size - 4600 x 3200 px (200 DPI)

Scale - 1 sq = 5 ft

Hey guys!

Introducing the last battle map for May - “Bank Lobby”. Based the feedback I received over at our Discord server, I believe this map will be very useful for cyberpunk (or sci-fi) campaigns. Who doesn't enjoy an action-packed bank heist, right?

Looking For A High-Tech Bank Vault?

Although the vault was created a couple of years back, the Bank Vault map will chain really well with the Bank Lobby.

Decision-making & Creative Process

Some of you wanted a grand bank lobby with historical-style architecture, marbled flooring, and opulence. I apologize in advance that this piece isn't like that. Instead, it's more modern and typical.

I did try. I start sketching a fancy-looking bank lobby, but for some reason, my mind was just fixated on a particular look during the creation process. I couldn't shake the image in my head and kept going back and forth on the styling until I caved and just proceeded with this version. I think a lot of it has to do with my evening walks.

You see, I live in the city and after each workday, I unwind by taking a walk down the local mall. On both sides of the strip, there are these fancy and ultra-modern looking bank branches that do not even look like banks, more like consultation centers. I know the cyberpunk genre can be very broad and all sorts of narratives are possible, but in the not-too-distant future, banks as we know them might not really have a reason to exist as almost everything today has gone digital. They would exist to service parts of the population who have troubles getting loans and those who want to store their valuables in high-security vaults.

Map Variants

Bank Lobby

The base map includes the core features of a modern bank: a bank branch manager's office, a credit/bank loans consultation office, seating areas, and a long desk for bank tellers. Additionally, there are ATM machines and self-help information interfaces scattered throughout. A security desk resides non-intrusively in a back corner of the bank, with a computer system that activates the elevator leading to the vault.

Security System

If the bank's security system is triggered, the entire building goes into full lockdown. The internal lighting turns amber and electronic sirens wail. Security window shutters slam shut within seconds, and portcullis-style metal bars emerge from the screening gates to prevent escape.

This situation is sure to raise the panic levels of your PC’s, as there appears to be no physical way out once the building goes into lockdown. Trapped like rats in a cage, all they can do is wait for the police to arrive. However, a talented hacker may be able to get them out of this bind.

After Hours

This is the night time variant of the map, where the bank has closed and everyone’s gone home but the place isn’t yet in a state of heightened security.

Especially useful for when your players decide to do a bank heist after hours. When they get there, everything looks quiet and peaceful, until you slam them with the “Security System” variant. Mic drop.

Elevator (Internal)

I thought that it might be useful to show the internal parts of the elevator. The bank is not a large space and if combat ensues, the action might end up spilling into the corridor and then into the elevator itself, especially if the combatants are trying to take cover from heavy fire coming from the window areas. And there are tons of windows.

I have included three variant tiles in this map pack for the base “Bank Lobby” map, “After Hours”, and “Security System variants”

A neat thing that I just thought of whilst writing this is, in the event the above were to happen, the players could trigger the security shutters to shield them from fire and buy them more time. Just a thought.

Ghetto Markets

Battle Map Dimensions: [37 x 27] grid at 140 DPI

Image Size: 5180 x 3780 px

Hey all!

It’s time for another battle map drop. This time, we’re going back to the slums area of the city with the “Ghetto Markets”. For those of you who are new here, you might not know that my first ever battle map was the “Cyber Slums” - which is kind of embarrassing to look at now. I figured it was high-time I did a remastered edition with upgraded art and better details, storytelling etc. I’ve learned a lot over the past two years plus and I hope it shows.

This battle map is another central location where storylines converge and spill out into my previous maps.

For instance, one the openings in the market could lead to the underground sewer canal.

The back alley could lead to the Ghetto Markets, or away from it.

Uncover a gang’s drugs lab hidden behind one of the stalls.

The street in the south could lead to the Combat Zone.

There are many more examples but these examples will get your imagination going. Like I said, this map is key.

The ghetto resides in the poorer part of the city. The market is situated partially, under an overhead highway (bridge). There are food and goods (weapons too) retail stores here that can support many different campaign narratives. Things to buy, shady people to meet.

There is also an Easter egg - the “Creed’s Gym” neon sign and an overly large opening to the east of the markets. This will lead to an underground fight club and other related areas that I will work on in the very near future.

But for now, here are the map variants…

Map Variants

Flood

The drainage system in the ghettos is not maintained and the continuous heavy rain has caused part of the markets to flood. It’s pretty common knowledge and the locals here are used to it. The flood water does occasionally seep too close to electrical powerlines however.

Crashed Vehicles

Here are two asset tiles that change up the narrative of this map. One police AV and one civilian AV.

Perfect for the chase scenarios your players get into, where things go awry and the vehicle crash lands in the ghettos. They now have another dangerous situation on their hands with gang members and being stranded in unfamiliar territory.

Think of movies such as “Dredd” and “Blade Runner 2049” where the protagonists get trapped in amongst gang infested areas and have to fight their way out. This is by far, one of my favorite scenarios!

Cyberpunk Church

Map dimensions - [28 x 39] grid, 140 DPI

Image size - 3920 x 5460 px

Hi guys,

Whew, after a full-on 7 days, it is complete! Here is the last map for April - “Cyberpunk Church”.

Many of you have requested a battle map that covers an actual church. While I have created the Sewer Temple map, it might have been a bit too specifically Buddhist.  So here is an actual Gothic cathedral which will be especially useful for those of you whose campaigns involve more western style of religions.

I stayed away from the obvious Christian symbols to keep this place vague, and as campaign adapatable as possible for everyone.

Here is an overview of the map variants.

Conversion Pit

This pit, filled with blood was inspired by The Warrior Nun (a Netflix series) where the cult followers thought they were getting a baptism but were instead getting possessed by demons after a quick soak in the ritual bath tub. Have fun with this one!

Blood God

A mysterious A.I. religion. A supposed entity embodied in a large talking head, serves up sermons to the church's flock. During the sermon her eyes bleed, filling the crimson pool beneath her. She ushers the flock to take a drink from the pool of holy blood.

Upon closer inspection, your players realize it isn't blood. What is this mysterious red liquid?

Church Squatters

Another map variant that focuses offering up an alternate use of space.

An abandoned cathedral has been occupied by squatters who have set up tents everywhere, leaving the place in a mess. Despite the chaos, one cannot help but imagine how a place like this could offer the perfect concealment for a group of fugitives, or for something more sinister?
