Scotia's Armor

Sexy armor/clothes in video-games and comics have always been one of my favorite aspects of fantasy design. I don't care that they're not practical or realistic. 'Fantasy' shouldn't be about 'realism,' which is probably why I'm not a big fan of George RR Martin. I'm amused by how militant some people against skimpy  armor, or about the inclusion of any fantasy in Fantasy. 

That said, I'm very turned off by any of the justifications of "Oh, skimpy armor makes them more mobile," or "it...

Probably the last Dizzy comic for a while, at least a month, since I plan to use Feb to make fantasy oriented comics, especially about Scotia the Swordswoman. Fiona versus Ariela

Fiona, the reformed tiefling paladin, finally confronts her former mistress on the battlefield.

New Mark look

  So I plan on spending my free time this month getting back into Mark the Adventurer, and trying to get him back to basics. I've dug up a bunch of sketches and jokes I've never gotten around to finishing, and I'm pretty happy with some of them. I really want to just have Mark be a stereotypical barbarian in some sort of generic fantasy situation. No story or background needed. No specific setting. Just a super generic fantasy world.

Should have had this done yesterday, but I've already talked about my time management. I also cut the coloring short because I need to work on another comic-page I've been neglecting that really deserves the attention. 

So is this structure working for people? I'm curious, because the way this will go means I'll only get a full fight out every two weeks. One Sunday, introducing the fight and the vote, then the second Sunday showing the results, and repeat a week later.

Wow, I can't draw feet. At all. I think everything else came out good. 

Lucretia

I like drawing characters. This is way more my speed I think. I also like the color green. For whatever reason (I don't know anything about color theory) it just takes to shading really well, and it's very easy to add glowing lights on. Regular skin tones are kind of difficult. 

Bugbears

-First: I'm gonig to need a title for this. Brutal Bugbears B-something B-something Busty Babe, or whatever. It has to alliterate. 

-Second: This comic is a good example of why I needed to take this month off. I don't know how to work effeciantly. I don't know how to moderate my time. I don't know when to stop. Just checking, but the top version looks a lot better than the bottom, right? The top was done with traditional coloring (like painting, and choosing each color directly). The bottom one was done using the gradient method I employed for a long time. It would look better wit some refinement, but honestly it did end up taking just as long as the top version, so maybe I should just stick to tradtional coloring for now. I don't know. Now that I've drawn the character and have gotten back to my commissioned work, I'm beggining to think that I'm being too hasty and indesisive. All (but one) of the jokes I've written for a female protagonist COULD work for a male protagonist, and since Scotia here really would be just a female version of Mark (with some tonal differeneces), I'm kinda thinking I should just keep working with Mark. I might spend a while just making generic one-shots with him. No side characters, so ...

The Future, ADVISE WANTED!

So I've really enjoyed making Dizzy the Star-Scout comics, and I'm glad I took this month off to get that all out of my system. I've got one more comic with Dizzy coming out at the end of the month, but I'm not sure what I want to do after that, once I start going back to doing paid commissions and having less time for myself. 

As much as I enjoy the look and feel of Dizzy, I just don't dig sci-fi, even with heavy fantasy elements. I prefer a world with lots of walking, dragons, and clock...

A pretty satisfying end, I think, althoug I still stumbled over all the same problems I stumble over with comics, like ineffecient use of time, inconsistent coloring, and inconsistent art. WTF? Alessandro Barbucci

So I was browsing through art on the internet, like I usually do, and I'm going through a lot of stuff by Italian artists like Milo Manara, and I re-stumbled over an artist named Alessandro Barbucci who I haven't look at in years (literally maybe 10 years) and I thought "Hey, this guy's still is a lot like what I'd want to achieve for my Dizzy character. Prince Belind

A character sheet for Prince Belind, the unfortunate foe of Princess Ariela. He inherited the throne that his parents stole from Ariela's family. He was born into a situation that I'm sure he wants no part of. I think Belind might be that kind of guy who'd be happier working in coffee-shop and living in a one-room apartment with his girlfriend/boyfriend than being a wealthy prince, but he was born a prince, and he was born with a big target on his back for Ariela. 

Unfinished Fallout Comic

Fantasy Fuck-Fighting League! First Poll

So it was my original intention to have this fight end with a coin-flip, but since it get to be 2v2, I thought it would be more fun to have  a vote. This is how I'll do these from now on, which will make for shorter 'comics,' usually of three pages. The set up, the vote and the actual fight, and then one final image of the aftermath.

Alice won another flip. Without intending it, this first comic ended up being the longest possible length my format would allow, AND it's not done yet. Alice and Dorothy are TIED! Dorothy got her second flip in a row. It was here that I started to lose interest and just wanted the fight to be over. I realized that I was essentially making a comic book one panel at a time, and I don't want to do that anymore. I think my lack of interest shows in the art which is too bad. I was hoping that my next coin flip would allow Dorothy to end the fight with a curb-stomp, but . . .
