Worth Region, notable for being where the Mesquite (#Prosopis glandulosa) - an extremely important tree ethnobotanically as well as ecologically - first begin to appear if headed West. Stromatolite Video
Michigan's Upper Peninsula is home to a wealth of ancient #Proterozoic jewels of geology, such as #stromatolites and metamorphosed pillow basalts, as well as some lovely iron mines and remnant rustbelt infrastructure. We find two species of orchids, man-made mountains at the edge of an iron mine, and a species of shelf mushroom that only grows on birch trees.
