Well here it is, the 20th update of Law School first episode.
Last week has been pretty good with progress, since I managed to complete DAY 6 in game. I'm now working on the second to last day in game, DAY 7, which is fairly short compared to DAY 6 and that's great news because that means I'll be done with it soon.
I finished DAY 6 yesterday only since I was pretty busy during the weekend, and I believe DAY 7 will be done by the end of the week. After that, I will have to work on one big scene for DAY 8 and then all the statics renders and animations will be created, which will be a huge achievement.
I will also have to write the three remaining scenes of this episode, which should be done quickly as it's writing and I know what I need to write already.
Now, let's talk numbers:
2314 story statics 43 animations 40 scenes have been fully written
Pretty confident with what's been made so far, and quite happy with the progress I made.
I have a few events this week which I can't miss, but I'm confident it won't prevent me from finishing the seventh day in game.
Anyway, it was a short progress update, but there wasn't much to say.
I have to get back to it, and in the meantime, I wish you all a great week.
Wait, an update on time? Surely that can't be MisterMaya behind the keyboard.
I hope you're all fine, and ready to hear about last week's progress update.
Unexpectedly, I had to book a flight from Saturday to Monday to go back to France. Something came up with the family and I couldn't miss it. So as you guessed it, I couldn't finish working on DAY 6 like I said I was. On the bright side though, I think it'll be done by Thursday, as I made great progress before I left and today.
My rendering machine has been working pretty well too, and I almost caught up with all the scenes I created.
It's great because I have 3 animations left to give it, which is why I'm not too scared it caught up on the story statics.
I also had time to prepare this small animation for you today.
I'm pretty happy with this one because I always struggle so hard with kissing animations, and I feel like I finally made a decent one. I still remember the first animated kiss with Alexa in The Entrepreneur and I have nightmares to this day, it was awful. But yeah, I guess I'm still learning and improving after all! Don't mind the black spot on Taylor's face, I'll fix it for the release.
So, since there wasn't much done last week, let's talk numbers now:
2195 story statics 42 animations 39 scenes have been fully written
Yes, only 83 story statics in the few days I was there. But they were complicated scenes to set and I'm happy I got rid of that. Now, I have just a small scene to complete, the big one of DAY 6 and I'll move on to DAY 7 Friday in my opinion.
I know it was a small update, but there wasn't much to say as I laid out the big plan last week for this last few weeks of development.
It's time for me to get back to work in the meantime, so I wish you all a great week.
I apologize for missing the update yesterday. I think I need to set an alarm for the upcoming weeks to prevent this from happening again!
I'd also like to extend a warm welcome to all the new members from NLT's community. I'm thrilled to have you on board :)
Progress has been going well recently. I finished DAY 5 in the game a few days ago and am now working on DAY 6. This will include a few short scenes, which should take about a day each to create, and one larger scene. Overall, I'm confident that I can complete this by next Wednesday or Thursday, depending on my workload.
After that, I'll be moving on to DAY 7, which consists of three small scenes, a "bigger" one with a mini-game, and a LEWD scene. This should take me around 7-8 days to complete. Then, I'll tackle the last day of this first episode, DAY 8, which has just one huge scene.
So, I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I believe I can finish this before the end of January.
I'm eagerly anticipating the next phase of development, which will involve creating and coding the mini-games visuals, developing the free roam event, designing the Facegram for characters, optimizing the game's GUI, refining game mechanics, and finally, post-processing the images and animations. February will be dedicated to these tasks, leading up to the game's testing phase and an early March release.
This is also an exciting phase because, as always, I prefer not to rush into LEWD content and emotional connections with the Love Interests (LIs). I like to let players get to know the characters first. The more I progress, the more I can introduce subtle interactions with the LIs, like kisses or physical contact, indicating their interest. I enjoy creating these moments that lead to such scenes.
I forgot how rewarding it is to develop new characters and build their relationships with the Main Character from scratch. It feels really great.
I'm also quite satisfied with how the story is evolving. I was initially concerned about including redundant scenes, but so far, they all seem necessary. My main challenge with visual novels is managing the branching storylines. Every decision leads to different outcomes, and with "Law School" being a larger game, I need to limit these branches early on to avoid a burnout later during the development.
This means that in this first episode, your decisions won't significantly affect your progress with the LIs, aside from missing out on secret renders or short "sexy scenes."
You'll understand what I mean when you play the game wink-wink.
Now, for some numbers:
2112 story statics 42 animations 39 scenes have been fully written
Progress is steady, and I'm happy with how things are going.
I estimate that DAY 6 will add about 300-350 story statics, DAY 7 around 200 excluding the mini-game, and DAY 8 approximately 150-200. It's unlikely that I'll reach 3000 renders for this first episode, but that's okay as it's already the largest episode I've developed so far, and it's not even finished yet.
That's it for last week's progress update.
I need to get back to work now, there's a game to be made!
Today, I've got some fun news to share. We're teaming up for a cross-promotion with NLT! Hello everyone, let me give you Aurora, the new Zeus! I tried so hard to find a "French queen" kind of theme, but I couldn't find any assets in that genre, so I went with this instead.
Hello everyone, after two weeks without giving updates on Law School I come with a lot of news. First of all, I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas and New Year's eve, may 2024 bring you happiness, health and success in whatever it is you do.
I cooked up those two images but forgot to prepare the post at the proper time twice, so there you have it now!
Mixing The Entrepreneur and Law School is pretty nice, isn't it?
Now, let's talk about the progress made on Law School.
December has been a crazy month for me, I can't believe that it's already been a month since the release of the Demo of Law School.
Between the release of the demo, the winter sale of The Entrepreneur, my birthday, family and friends time, my unexpected 4 days spent in France, I feel like time flew by way too quickly.
And it shows, as I didn't make as much progress as I would have liked to.
My goal was to finish DAY 5 in game by the end of December, and as it stands right now, I still have two "big" scenes to create, so probably another 4-5 days of work. That means I'm already a week late on what I scheduled. It's not a big deal, as I can always make outstanding progress in the few next weeks, but I'm kind of bummed.
Anyway, the show must goes on, and I try not to think about it and get back to working as good and as much as I can.
So far, here's what I made:
2014 story statics 41 animations 39 scenes have been fully written
While I was away I wrote a bunch of scenes, and all that's left to write now is 4 scenes. Two of them are fairly big and important ones, and I can't wait to write them. We also reached the 2000 milestone of story statics, and that feels pretty good. I'm not so sure I'll reach 3000, but we'll see, since I still have a lot of renders I haven't created for the roaming event or the minigames.
Anyway, that was it for today's progress update.
I would like to thank you all for your support throughout 2023, it's been a crazy year for me, and seeing the community excited helps me push forward. I look forward to 2024, and I hope you do to.
I'd like to apologize for not making the progress update on Law School Tuesday, but there wasn't much to say about last week, so I'd rather create one with more content next Tuesday.
Today I'm here to talk about The Entrepreneur!
I'm currently looking to translate the game in different languages, as it's been requested for quite some time now, but I couldn't do it.
We've created a discord channel in which you can come, and participate to the translation of the game in the language you'd like to contribute to.
All the steps to translate the game are explained there, but I'm always available should you have any questions.
Translations will be credited in-game and moved to the Steam version when verified. You will also get a 'translator' role on my discord server, which gives you recognition and access to patrons-only chats.
I hope many of you will be tempted to help making The Entrepreneur a "worldwide" experience :)
I'm back from France, and visiting my home country gave me an idea for the model of January. In France we have a tradition during January which is called "La galette des Rois". It's a cake that we eat, and basically you translate it "King's cake." So I thought, let's make it the theme of January!
Since Val won last session, she's now out of the poll for this month. Now, because I'm working a lot on Law School, and you tried the demo, I want to make this edition about Law School only.
I know all the character's name have been introduced in the end of the Demo, so hopefully you remember who I mean. I'm going to throw in all the LIs, and a few extra characters.
So vote for your character, and let's see who wins it this time!
Hello everyone, sorry for the delay with the post, I had to unexpectedly go back to France for a few days, and I forgot to plan the update.
As I said last week, my family came to visit me for a few days and I didn't work as much as I could. But despite that, I still found some time here and there and managed to create 5 animations, and a few statics. Those animations I created will be used as a transition from DAY 4 to DAY 5, so I'm quite happy because they total around over 30 seconds worth of frames, which will be perfect for a transition. Pretty much like the one I used in The Entrepreneur episode 2, when MC drives his car to the bar and walk in with people looking at him. So yeah, pretty happy with this.
Two of those animations have been rendered already, but the last three are fairly big with all the decors and such, and I estimated around 14 days to render them all. Yup, you read that right, 14 days.
So while I'm gone, even though I don't like doing that, my computers are both working on those animations so I don't waste precious time. Even though my new GPU is a good card, I still try and push it to its limits and well, sometimes it reminds me that I'm too greedy with my animations.
But I'm glad it allows me to animate scenes with up to 11 characters in one shot, all moving, such as this one, where the Dean walks in the class and all heads follow her.
I'm kind of disappointed I forgot to work on her hands, so they're just flat out opened, but I'm not going through another 3 and a half days of rendering to fix it lol. By the way, don't mind Rose clipping through the table, I'll fix that before the release of the first episode.
Now, while I'm in France, I'm going to be working on the script of Law School. It's the only thing I can do with a laptop.
My goal is to write all the remaining scenes, meaning all the dialogues up until the end of the first episode. I'm flying back Sunday, so I believe it's going to be enough time for me to do it. Once all that is written, I'll be left with the 3D part once again.
I'm staying in Ireland for new year's eve, and won't be taking holydays up until the release of the first episode, to make up for those few days I'm spending in France.
Now, let's talk about numbers:
1938 story statics 36 animations 31 scenes have been fully written
So as you can see, we are making good progress despite a hectic month of December for me. The release of the demo, my family coming to see me, and my unexpected depart for France.
I believe the month of January will be more stable and that'll allow solid progress.
Anyways, that was it for this week's progress update. I need to go now, I'll work on the script later.
Hello everyone, I can't say I'm disappointed with the work recently.
I've finally managed to finish DAY 4 in game, and I'm now working on DAY 5, which should be easier as I mentioned before.
Not only that, but I also managed to finish the 3rd out of 5 LEWDscene, which are scenes that always take longer than others.
Now, I believe DAY 5 should be finished next week around Friday. My family comes to visit me on Saturday, and they'll be here for four days, during which I won't work or very little.
I'm happy as it also means a small break for me from all the 3D. Besides, after DAY 5, I'll be caught up with all the script I've written, which means I'll do both 3D work and story writing work. It's nice to alternate a little, as it gets boring and tiring to only do 3D at some point.
Anyway, let's talk about numbers now:
1891 story statics 31 animations 31 scenes have been fully written
Good progress as you can see, and I look forward to the end of the year as I'll probably be mostly done for the 3D, if we don't count what I decided to do at the end.
So, it was a good week!
Now, it's almost midnight here, and I think I worked enough today, so I will enjoy the company of my bed. I wish you all a great week.
Hello everyone, let me first apologize for the delay with progress update, yesterday was a busy day for me, and I forgot to post on Patreon.
Second of all, I want to say a huge thank you for how well Law School Demo was received. Many of you reached out to express your excitement for my new game, and that makes me very happy.
We're now only a couple of months away from finishing the 3D part on my end, which means we're on schedule for the release, and I look forward to share the first episode with you guys.
As I said just before, work is going steadily. I didn't finish DAY 4 in game as I hoped too, but it's not a problem since I'm almost done with that day.
Also, the wallpaper of December - Christmas edition is done and I'll share it with you guys tomorrow. It was a flawless victory for Val with over 50% of votes, and even with the patron tiers and the number of votes correction, Val still won. The people have spoken I guess!
Also, my new GPU, the RTX 4090 is a huge beast. It went through all my renders and whether it was animations or statics, it rendered it all. I'm quite speechless, as I only have 20 renders in the queue now, but it can't be a bad thing I guess, because the bottleneck issue clearly isn't on the table anymore.
So very happy with this.
Now, let's talk about numbers!
1784 story statics 26 animations 31 scenes have been fully written
I'm slowly but surely getting there, soon we'll reach the 2000 statics milestone, and I'm happy about that number.
Also, expect more animations than I ever used with any of The Entrepreneur episodes. I'm really happy because the 4090 does its job really well, and it allows me to create animations that I will use as transitions from one scene to another.
Anyway, that was it for this week's progress update.
I got to get back to it, so in the meantime, I wish you all a great week.
Very pleased to let you have a taste of my second game, Law School. In this demo you'll have about 520 renders, 7 animations, and around 1100 lines of dialogue, so it's fairly big for a demo.
Get it here: Windows: here Mac: here I hope you enjoy, and I'll see you soon.
First of all, the demo of Law School has been completed, tested, and modified according to what needed to be changed after the testing phase. It's now ready to be published.
I've decided to release it on December the 4th because it's my birthday, and I can't think of a better gift (I'm extremely happy whenever I release something).
Because it's a demo, it will be free.
I want to thank all the testers for their reactivity, as they flew through the demo, which is still quite big for a demo; in no time. Their reviews have been great, and they even offered suggestions which I listened to. So yeah, very excited to release it.
The month of December is a big month for me as a lot of things are going to happen both for Law School and The Entrepreneur, so stay tuned, be it on Discord or Twitter for the announcements.
And now that the demo is complete, I've started working again on Law School since last Friday. Back to creating new scenes, and soon back on the story writing as I'm almost all caught up with the huge progress I made while I was away for two weeks. I'm making more progress that I thought, so it's looking very good for a release in March 2024.
Now, let's talk about numbers: 1621 story statics 24 animations 31 scenes have been fully written
I'm currently working on day 4 in game. Day 4 is literally the last big day I have to create, with complicated scenes and a lot of characters involved. Then day 5, 6, 7 will be lighter, or easier should I say, and there will be a bigger scene in day 8. So I'm really excited to finish day 4, which in my opinion should be finished by Monday.
The game is shaping up and I'm really excited about it. Also, there won't be an introduction to a new character of the game in this post, but instead I encourage you to go and vote for the wallpaper model of December Christmas edition right here.
Well, that's about it for this week. I hope you're all as impatient as I am, and in the meantime, I wish you a great week.
As I said in a previous post, you can now vote here for the December model. Make it good, and vote for your favorite LI of The Entrepreneur, or try a new girl of Law School of my choosing!
Last week's been good, working on something else than 3D feels great, and besides I can see Law School taking shape and that's very satisfying.
I am almost done with the GUI, I got stuck at some point regarding the loading/save screen, and asked somebody that had helped me with The Entrepreneur to once again save the day.
Other than that, all the images and animations are in the game folders and have been dispatched in the script. So all that's left for me is a bit of GUI customization, add some music and send it to the testers.
I suppose it will be ready by Sunday at max.
Not much to say this week, because I'm working on the Demo and not the actual game. I'll soon get back on the 3D phase and therefore make some new progress.
Hello everyone, this update is a little late as opposed to usual but I come with many news, and you won't be disappointed you waited.
First of all, let's talk about what's been done as progress regarding Law School.
I successfully managed to finish day 3 in game as I wanted to, and also went back to day 1 to create some animations which I was missing. Now, the first three days are fully complete with the exception of the free roam event of the episode 1, but I said from the get go I intended to do it this way. On top of that, I changed not one, but two characters from the game. They have the same story and personality and everything, but I changed model, because I believed they looked much better like this. It was a bit of a boring time, opening each and every scene they were in, loading them, the pose etc, but the result is worth it.
As I said in last week's progress update, I didn't start creating the scenes of day 4. The reason for this is that as I told you last week, I have a surprise planned for you. I will release a demo version of Law School early December. This demo will be half of day 1, so to introduce some characters, get a feel of the game, and have you get a first taste of my second game. I had done the same thing before I released the first episode of The Entrepreneur, and I thought it'd be a good idea to do it again with Law School.
The demo will contain 500 statics, 9 animations, and about 1200 lines of dialogue. It's a good amount of content yet not too much, so I'm pretty excited with this. I'm going to spend the whole week ahead of me photoshopping, creating the animations in Adobe Premiere, coding everything, customize the GUI of the game, etc... It should be enough so that I can go back to working on the 3D next week.
I still got about 5 days worth of rendering in my rendering station, so I won't waste time and be out of content to render. Speaking of rendering station, I upgraded the setup bringing a new RTX 4090 which will greatly speed up the rendering time. The bottleneck situation should be addressed with this measure. Unfortunately, it was supposed to be delivered today, but damn UPS failed to satisfy, once again.
Now, second thing as well, I have decided to start doing customs again, as well as renders of the month. The renders of the month will be shared at the beginning of the same month. So monthly December will be released early December.
It's a little too late now for November, but I'll put up a vote for the model I'll use for December. And for the customs, it will also be delivered at the beginning of the month.
Now let's talk about numbers:
1501 story statics 22 animations 31 scenes have been fully written
Not much to say, progress is still good, it'll be slow during this week for the preparation needed to create the demo, but then I'll get back on it full time. I already have a release date in mind, even though I've been told many times not to say when I do, but yeah, I'll say it anyway. In my opinion, a release early March is more than doable. I'll do my best to maintain it, but I'm confident it should all work out perfectly. And boy, will that episode be big.
Anyway, that was it for today's update progress. I would have presented a character, but I decided not to this week.
I got to get back to it, so I wish you all a great week.
Hi everyone, last week has been a pretty good week.
I've worked a lot and for the first time in ages, I decided to take my Sunday off and only worked an hour in the morning. I'm sure Wibble will be happy about this.
Many things happened, I received the firstbatch of animations for the first LEWD scene, and I'm really happy with what's been created by the animator.
Here's two of the animations he sent me:
Now all that's left to do is to use those loops and mix them with non loops, add the camera angles, add a little bit of depth of field, render it, photoshop it and create the animation. I'm really happy because it saved me quite some time having someone creating those, and also because he respected my instructions, and the result will/already looks very nice.
Now, I also spent some days during the last week working with somebody over calls at night because he believes he can upgrade my non LEWD animations using Blender/Maya. We're trying to set things up together, and I've seen his work, he's really good. You know how I like to use animations for transitions, and to add realism to a scene.
We will try to make this happen, as my animation skills are just ok, and it could add another layer of professionalism to Law School.
Other than that, I'm still working on the 3D part. I've made some good progress, but I've been slowed down on one scene as 50 statics in I realized I used the wrong render settings. Had to open them all one by one and fix it since I don't know how to fix this faster. I lost a few hours that day unfortunately, as those were big scenes and took 3-4 minutes to open, fix, and save a scene.
But it's okay, it happens unfortunately, but at least it's a mistake that didn't cost me days of work.
I'm also almost done with day 3 now, just a couple of short scenes left to finish after the big one I just completed this morning.
Then, I won't go straight to day 4, because I decided that I was going to organize a small surprise for mid December which I will talk about later. I think you'll be happy with this. Good thing is, I have about 300 statics and 3 animations to render.
I can afford the little week it's going to take me to stop the 3d work and focus on something else, still related to Law School nonetheless.
Now, let's talk about numbers:
1392 story statics 16 animations 30 scenes have been fully written
It's kind of weird, because I was pretty sure I had reached the 200 story statics marker this week, but I guess I didn't. We're still sitting at 164 story statics produced, but I expected more. But yes, I spent many hours with animators, fixing mistake, and took the Sunday off, so I guess it all adds up. Mmh, I don't like this. No more Sundays off.
Now, let me introduce you to another character of the game.
Sienna is Miranda's best friend, and therefore she can speak American Sign Language. She's surprisingly always, ALWAYS with Miranda, and she acts like her guardian and protector. There might be something more than just friendship?
So, that was it for this week's progress update. Quite happy with the progress made and the new things coming.
I'll get back to work, so I wish you all a great week.
Hi everyone, I'd like to apologize for the delay in the weekly post update, I changed windows drive in both my computers in order to get more space, and there were a few issues with transferring my scenes on the rendering station since it wasn't the same path name anymore.
Anyway, I got it fixed, all it took was a whole day and a few French slurs.
Now, last week has been really great. Having France eliminated from the Rugby world cup helped me stay at home and focus on working on Law School.
As I said last week, I wrote so much script that my next weeks will be me entirely focusing on 3D work. I know it's tiring and it gets boring quite quickly, but the good thing is when you move from one scene to another you kind of have that feeling of "fresh start", so it helps a little.
I wrapped up a big scene, followed by a shorter one, and now I'm working on a big scene again, which I'll probably finish in two days.
On another note, many changes have been made to the discord server, so I hope you don't feel a little lost. I'm quite happy with the changes made so far, and I'm sure you'll be excited with everything coming in the next few months while I finish the first episode of Law School.
Speaking of, let's talk about numbers now:
1228 story statics 15 animations 30 scenes have been fully written.
Over 220 story statics have been made. I'm now working on day 3 in game, and I realize that those two first days were really the big ones in terms of story statics. Day 4 will probably another big one, and then it'll be more regular days. In my opinion, as soon as I finish Day 3, I'll have created half of the story statics.
Now, let me introduce to you another character of the game.
Mike will be an important character of the game. As MC will make his way through Law School, he will quickly realize that he and Mike share the same dream, becoming the best lawyer America has ever seen. How will you react, will you be good enough to face him and beat him?
Anyway, that was if for last week's progress update.
Not much to say this week, still making progress, still working, and still motivated. I'll get back to it, and in the meantime, I wish you all a great week.
First, I'd like to apologize for releasing a progress update on Tuesday rather than Monday, but I'll explain to you why later in that post.
So, I'm finally back in Ireland after two weeks off, ready to grind the development of the game again.
During those two weeks I took some time off for myself in order to see the family and friends, but also to relax a little bit. At least that was the plan, but I was still working everyday, I was just spending less hours working than I would normally per day. So, I feel good, I came home on Sunday, and those two mornings I woke up full of energy, which is great.
Two weeks away was long, but time well spent if you ask me.
Now, let's talk about what I did for the game during those two weeks.
As I said, I was only going to be able to work on the script, I almost had the hopes of fully finishing it, but I didn't. Still, great progress was made.
This first episode of Law School is going to be made of 7 in game days. I wrote the script up until day 5, also writing half of this day.
Huge progress made, and I'm really happy with the quality of the dialogues. I also took time to get back, analyze what I first wrote in the first scenes, twist and modify the dialogues, without changing the story. Overall, I'm really happy with this.
Having all those scenes already wrote allows to better plan the scenes ahead, the humour I'll use, think of a better approach on the parts with explicit content, and try to give that real College vibe to the game.
So now, I'll have to catch on with the progress on the 3D part, and it can be quite scary because this is going to be my next few weeks, working only on creating the visual aspect of all the scenes I've written. But I'm confident as I have a few good news to give you.
First of all, I've successfully quit my job. I'm now back full time working on my AVNs, and man that feels good. I'll have more energy, more time to spend on the games, and I'll try to take some time to see friends, so overall a better mental state, which will only help the game. It also means a release a little sooner than I expected, at least probably. I'll give you more details when I know more about this.
That's the first good thing.
Second one is, I've started to work with a marketing company called Infernozilla, which will help me with one aspect I really struggle, communicating around MisterMaya and my games.
I'm really bad at this, I think those of you who have seen my discord, or my social medias know what I mean.
Infernozilla reached out to me before I left Ireland for two weeks, and after meetings and talks, I've decided to trust their services and start working with them.
What they will do basically is handle all the communication around the game, and help with helping the community grow, and so much more.
I trusted them because they work with quite a few AVN developers such as NLT, IT Roy or ViNovella to mention a few. I've looked at what they did for these developers, and was pleasantly surprised to see that they know their stuff.
Our collaboration will help me spend more time working on Law School without needing to take time and energy to promote the games, managing the communication on socials, etc...
Many changes will happen soon, and that's why I encourage you all to join the discord where you will be informed of all the new upcoming events, sales, contests and so much more. My Discord will also go through a complete rework during this week which will make it more personalized, easy to navigate and overall more user-friendly.
Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit, will also be important for you guys to follow as they will have many news and events about not only The Entrepreneur, but also Law School.
This is why I strongly advise you to go to my LinkTree, and follow all the socials.
As you know now, big changes have happened recently, and I'm really excited about all that's to come.
Now, let's talk about the progress made during those two weeks.
1004 story statics 11 animations 29 scenes have been fully written.
As you can see, we reached out the milestone of 1000 story statics created. I've managed to create a few yesterday after doing all the groceries, laundry, house management needed after two weeks away. I also entirely wrote 17 scenes while away, pushing the first episode at around 5200 lines of dialogue as it is right now. Pretty happy with this huge progress made while I was away.
I have a hard time believing all the progress I made during those last two months, and I can't wait to see what I'm going to do in the next two now that I'm fully working on the game.
Now, let me introduce the "last" LI of the game. And I say "last "with hyphens because of something you will understand once you play the game.
Well, here's Aurora. You think you know what she's up to, but you don't. You think you have her figured out, but you don't. Aurora will be an obstacle on your road, and it'll be up to you with how you deal with her.
Well, that was it for these two last week's progress update. From now on, I intend to post progress updates every Tuesday, as it better fits my agenda.
I have to get back to work, but in the meantime, I wish you all a great week.
I worked on a big scene in which I kind of let my imagination go wild, and the result is pretty nice. What's also nice is that not only did I finish this scene, but I also completed another one, and that leaves me with just two scenes, and a free roam even to create for the second day in game to be completed.
As I said in a previous update, all the mini games and the free roam even are something that I will work on at during the late stages of that first episode's development, as they require the creation of images of certain size with which you can interact once hoovered, and a bigger part in coding.
So those two scenes are what's left for me to create story statics wise before I can move on to day 3.
I also wanted to create a huge amount of story statics that I would queue in my rendering station as I will be away for the next two weeks and unable to work on the 3D part.
But after thinking it over, I don't feel comfortable letting my rendering station work while I'm not here because I can't give it a look every now and then and see how it's doing.
Therefore, I decided to let my computers off for the next two weeks. I will feel better knowing there can't be any issues that needs my attention while I'm away.
It'll probably haunt me whenever I'll reach the end of the development and there will a small voice in my head screaming "You lost two weeks!", but as of right now it doesn't.
Anyway, lets talk about numbers now:
978 story statics 11 animations 12 and a half scenes have been fully written.
Huge progress made last week. Over 160 story statics, and 3 animations. We're awfully close to the 1000 story statics milestone, so I look forward to coming back and working again.
I'm really happy with this, as it shows how much I'm efficient in my way of working. Progress has never been so good on The Entrepreneur, and I used to work 7/7 days, 10 to 12 hours a day for a year at the beginning of the development. It shows how much I've learnt and how much I've improved.
Those 3 animations I've created are a big plus as they total 840 frames, which when I come back, will give plenty of work to my rendering station. Even though I've decided to hire an animator for the LEWD scenes, I still create the "SFW" animations, and I'm happy because I'm getting better.
Now, let me introduce to you a character of the game.
Meet Andrea, she's piece of work this one, will drive you crazy with how big of a pain the ass she will be, and that will also be emphasized by something else I will talk about later on (wink-wink).
So that was it for this week's progress update.
I won't upload a progress update next week as there won't be much to say. No 3D work will be done, as I will work from a laptop on the script only.
I need to finish packing my luggage and catch my plane in 5 hours, so I'll get back to it.
Well unfortunately, last week was rather slow due to my health.
I was stuck in bed for 3 days for I thought was a bad cold, but it turns out my coworkers all dropped like flies shortly after me as well.
Being patient zero, I really don't know where I could have caught it, whatever it was. I'm better now fortunately.
As a result though, I lost 3 days worth of work getting better.
So last week wasn't big on achievements. I managed to do a few writing, as well as completing the first scene of the second day, and I'm only working on the second one today.
I also wrote a little more than what I've been doing since the beginning of working on this game, where I would usually write a scene, create it, and then move on to another one, sometimes write a little bit of the next scene when I wasn't feeling like doing 3D work, but not entirely.
Because I was tired and still recovering, I thought it would be better for me to simply relax while watching movies and write at the same time.
So that's that on the bright side.
This is also my last week before I go away for two weeks.
During these two weeks, I will only be able to do script writing, which I will still do. It will allow me to have a first work done on many scenes of the first episode, and then when I come back in Ireland and start working again on the 3D part, I will be able to adjust a few things if needs be.
I will leave Ireland on Sunday for those two weeks, but I will upload a post update on Patreon next Monday to let you know of the achievements made during this week.
Any way, without further ado, let's talk about those poor achievements of last week.
815 story statics 8 animations 10 and a half scenes have been fully written.
Really bummed about the story statics progress as I wanted to create as much statics as possible to build a solid queue to render while I was away. Turns out in those 3 days without working I rendered almost everything I needed to render, leaving me with only 8 story statics left to render.
Hopefully this week will be better, as I am motivated for a quite funny scene to create.
Anyway, let me now introduce you to a new character of the game.
I wanted to start introducing some of the male characters as well, as they will be part of MC's daily life.
So meet Will, he will be one of MC's close friends at Stocklingburg.
Anyway, that was it for this week, and it's time for me to get back to work on Law School.
Last week was pretty good, we reached an important milestone which was the completion of the first day.
Altogether, it contains 676 story statics, which is honestly pretty good. As a little information, the first episode of The Entrepreneur contained 1490 story renders. I'm also not rendering most of the animations yet, so that almost all the renders that are being created in my workstation are rendered as soon as possible. So all those 676 story statics are already rendered and waiting patiently for post work. Important milestone for me, as the first episode will be about MC's first week at school. So, 1 out of seven pretty much. Day 6 and 7 will be slightly smaller in terms of story statics, so do not worry, progress in the next 2-3 months should be much faster.
Now, I'm currently working on the first scene of the second day which is MC in his first Law class of the year. This scene will take a few days before it's completed as a lot of the protagonists will be interacting in this episode, which means that I'll have to use a lot of specified billboards, and therefore, create a lot of them, which will take quite some time. My plan is to create all the scenes loading the characters in it, and then, create all the billboards for each scene based on the angle of the camera , re-open the scenes one by one and load billboards in. It is quite tiring, but I don't see another way to work around this without impacting the realism of the scene. But it's fine, as the result will most likely be worth it.
I have a mental Gantt chart I know by heart which defines the steps and achievements for the first episode of Law School, and I need to say, I am going faster than I thought I would. I'll wait to have completed the fourth day before sharing my plans regarding the release.
Other than that, everything is going pretty smooth with the workflow. Not much to say as this is just another grind part, the episode is all planned ahead, so I just create and create and create.
Let's talk about numbers now:
762 story renders 8 animations 7 and a half scenes have been fully written.
Pretty good week as I've made over 130 story renders, and they look really good. Now let me introduce to you the third LI of the game.
Olive is the definition of shyness, talking with her will prove to be quite challenging unless you find a way to have her open up to you. Will you be up to the task?
On top of that, Olive will be the unofficial photographer of the campus, and I will share on my twitter some renders as if they were taken by Olive for Facegram, starting next week. Expect to see the characters in their daily lives at College with funny scenes, some sexy moments, and more. Also, as a little game, all the posts you will see on Twitter will be taken from moments that you will actually encounter during your playthrough, so it will be funny for you to try and spot Olive in the background of certain scenes taking pictures with her camera. So yeah, this is pretty much it for this week's progress update. The work keeps on going, and I hope you're all eager to see some more about the game.
I'll get back to work, those damned billboards won't create themselves.
Last week was amazing in terms of content created. I spent all the time I had at home working on the game with the exception of Thursday night to cheer on the French team for the Rugby world cup. Other than that, my back still aches from how much I've sat on my chair in front of my desk writing, or modelling scenes.
I'm going to be creating the last scene of the first day today, which will be smaller than the others, quieter I guess, one good way to close the first day for MC at his new college.
I've changed a couple of things on this game with the way I created scenes which enhance the character in the center of the shot, resulting in more esthetic renders overall in my opinion.
I also learnt of a new trick which I didn't know before called the rule of thirds. It was born in photography and it explains how to take a shot of the subject so that it has better impact.
Basically, it works like this:
Here you have a scene featuring one of the characters which I will introduce in another update. Long story short, MC and the character are looking at each other from across the room without a word exchanged.
You can see the scene is split in 9 squares by 2 horizontal and 2 vertical lines. The way you should use this technique is to place the subject, here the girl, where the lines interject. I chose to place her eyes parallel to the first horizontal line and have her right eye to the first intersection "A1". With A2, I tried to line up her right shoulder so that the line drawn across her neck and shoulder would match with the second horizontal line.
It is said that "aligning a subject with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject".
You don't have the setup of the scene, but I felt that positioning elements in this way gave a nice result indeed, better than if I had only centered it.
And here's the result:
So that's now one more tool I have at disposal to help me create good renders, and I'm quite happy about this.
I'm also really happy that I'm still learning, because it keeps it exciting, and I love this. Anyway, how about we talk numbers now?
So far, we're looking at:
631 story renders 6 animations 6 scenes have been fully written.
Honestly, if I can have only weeks like last one from now on, we might be looking at a release sooner than expected.
Almost 220 renders were produced last week, as well as 2 animations, and I don't even remember the last time I had such a productive week.
So yeah, good week for me, I can only hope this one will be half as good as last week, and I'd still be happy.
Now, let me introduce you to another character of the game.
Miranda isn't a LI, but her story will leave its impact on you. That is if, you wish to know her story of course.
Anyway, that was it for today's progress update. I need to finish that last scene for the first day, so I'll get back to it.
I wish you all a great week, and I'll see you soon.
Last week was really good when it comes to 3D work. As I said in the previous update, I worked on the big scene which introduced MC to his new college life and I managed to complete it on Saturday. This scene has a total of 212 statics, which is a huge number for just one scene, and I'm pretty happy with this.
I had time to write a little on another scene and create some more renders after this, but I was working and finished late on Sunday, so I didn't create much yesterday.
Still, much progress has been made.
I also decided that I would solely focus on story writing as well as what I call "story-statics", statics that will be used in the game as regular images, before I start working on the actual coding of the game. (Money management, relationships, mini-games, facegram, etc...)
The reason for this is that all the coding aspect will require other statics to be created, a huge photoshop part, and many, many "test and adjust". I know this part will be dreadful to me, so I'd rather postpone it not because of laziness, but because right now, the goal is to create as much content as possible. Not only does it motivate me it also helps me to visualize where I am right now, and it gives me a frame to follow when I'll start working on the coding part.
It might sound abstract to you both because my english isn't advanced enough for me to perfectly translate my thoughts from french, but it is what's best for the game right now.
Now, let's talk numbers:
So far, we're looking at: 412 story renders 4 animations 4 and a half scenes have been fully written.
So far, progress is great. In October, I will send my first LEWD scene to the animator, and I'm really impatient about it.
I will also take two weeks off mid October during which I will only be able to work on story writing, therefore I'm trying to create as much content as possible to queue before I leave.
Now, let's meet a second LI of the game!
Meet Taylor, one which will make your heart beat faster, believe me.
Anyway, that was it for this week.
I'll get back to work, and I wish you a great week.
Last week has been pretty regular, worked as much as I could on the game, and took a little time off yesterday to see some friends.
Just enough time off to recharge the batteries and attack another week on the game. I'm currently still working on the arrival of MC and his friend Rose at Stocklingburg. It is a big scene as I have created over 100 renders and 2 animations just for this scene, and I'm nowhere near finished.
I also had to create a lot of billboards for the background of these statics, so it explains why I spend so much time working on the arrival at Stocklingburg. But the result so far looks amazing, so I'm quite happy.
I believe I'll be done with this big scene during this week, and it will be refreshing to move on to the next scene. Let's talk about numbers now:
So far, we're looking at: 288 story renders 4 animations 4 scenes have been fully written.
I've managed to create 87 renders this past week, as well as 1 animation. It is half of what I expected to create statics wise, explained by the huge setup each and every scene requires for this arrival.
But I also have great news, I managed to go part time as of today at my day job, which will give me much more time to work on the game.
I'm excited to slowly transition into a full time game developer once again, and it's really nice to see the game slowly taking shape.
Now, let me introduce a second character of the game.
Maybe some of you will pick up on this, but this is Elsa, which was mentioned by MC and Lucas in The Entrepreneur, and you could even find an easter egg of a picture with her and MC on MC's desk. It's one of the easter eggs I had in The Entrepreneur's last episode, among others.
Anyway, it was a rather short progress update this week, but there wasn't much to say.
I'll go back to work, and until next time, I wish you all a great week.
This progress update marks the beginning of the communication around Law School, and I am very happy about it. The Entrepreneur is now behind me after a successful Steam release, and I can now give all my free time to Law School.
The way I want this game to be is to have more interactions to it than The Entrepreneur. Mini-games, a free Roam event per episode, decisions to make, money management, secret renders to unlock, etc...
This means not only do I need to create story renders, but also other renders that will used in the game. More than an AVN you will read, there will be a sort of 3D feeling involved as there will be menus, buttons, drag actions etc...
Do not worry, this game will not be a Sandbox. It just means that there will be more interactions involved to help you fully immerge the game and "play" rather than just read.
I can't give you goals as to how many renders I want this first episode to be, or when will the game be out, as I plan on quitting my day job before the end of the year and go back to full time developing AVNs.
To make sure it is a viable option, I need to see if I will be financially able to do so as there is a housing crisis in Ireland and rent here is outrageous, which is why I'm still working on this while having a regular day job. Once I'm able to quit, progress will be made much quicker.
That being said, I've fixed myself short time goals to help me see progress being made. I'm trying to get at least 150 story renders done per week. It is something that's doable, but challenging as well, as I've decided to step up my game with the quality of the renders.
Law School is about life at college, which means there will be tons of students as well. I need to make sure that any scenes that will take place in a public setup will have to be "crowded" with background characters having interactions, doing stuff, etc...
I found an efficient way which I didn't use before is to use Billboards, 2d images of characters I create and then use in my scene. The advantage of 2D billboards is that they're texture-less, and therefore don't tax my GPU Vram, which allows me to use many of them and have a realistic, alive and warm scene without having my computer crash, or the software stuttering when I'm modeling because that is very frustrating and time consuming.
But creating those billboards take time, as every scene requires different ones, with different clothes and/or lighting, especially when using main characters that interacted in the scene and then become billboards in the background. But yeah, long story short, it'll be a sight for sore eyes once I'm finished.
Now, let's talk some numbers:
As I said before, a big part of the work on Law School was creating the story, the characters, their backstories, the environments, the logo, etc...
A lot of it has been made over the end July and beginning of August, while I was working on the Steam release, and I'm now working on creating the scenes to the game.
So far, I've created: 201 story renders 3 animations 3 and a half scenes have been fully written.
I also have one LEWD scene that will be created shortly as I will send the details to the animator I've hired.
The goal for next Monday is to be at 350 renders! We will see if I can maintain this rhythm but if I do, Law School will come out pretty quickly!
Finally, every week I will share with you one of the characters of the game, and today, meet Rose, MC's best friend! She is also a Love Interest.
Many have asked me about the guide, and the special Christmas episode, and because the release of the game on Steam was already complicated enough, I've decided to upload these two DLCs in a couple of months.
I hope you will enjoy this episode with the new music, the achievements, and many more things ;)
