Being seasick has come up a lot lately through conversations with our Patrons. First off, seasickness has never been an issue for anyone in our family until recently. We’ve been in rough seas on our monohull with no problem. Rough seas on the cat, however, got me very sick.
I do ok with it until we start to hobby-horse which is usually when we are beating into the wind with the seas on a quarter or the beam (side). It's a strange motion on a cat. This motion isn’t fun for anyone and ...

We’ve been torn between and catamaran and monohull for quite some time now. Now that we’ve spent 6 weeks in total on a cat we’ve come up with some comparisons. We know that some of you are boat owners and may have some insight to add along to our thoughts and would love to hear them!
The CONS of a Catamaran:
A cat is much more expensive if you try to get a monohull that compares in quality or size. They’re just expensive!
Marina fees tend to be ...

We took this photo while anchored next to this little guy, it was home to two men that had sailed all the way through and around Florida. It was seriously a tiny little boat. The engine putted like the children's cartoon The Little Engine that Could. They pulled up next to us in the Dry Tortuga's recently, dropped anchor and we all enjoyed the scenery!
Although adorable, this is NOT the boat we're in the process of purchasing. Without giving too many details in fear of jinxing ourselves....

That’s right, we're at it again! We jumped aboard the Antares 44i this past weekend. We did a quick provision trip to get us through 5 days and we are currently headed south! Only this time it’s a little different. The Captain of the vessel, John, is only sailing with us for 5 out of the 15 days. I know, crazy! He must really trust us and feel safe leaving his floating home in our hands. So we plan to play around Key West of course and possibly head off to the Dry Tortugas for a week before ...

Most coffee drinkers understand how vital it is to wake up and enjoy that first cup of coffee. Well, I indulge in that pleasure and if you’re a sailor then you know how much you look forward to that morning cup of hot Joe!
When we were two weeks into our trip around Florida...One late afternoon we neared Marathon. The seas were rough...We were beating upwind towards the inlet in about 5 foot seas. As usual I made sure to stow everything into place…Or so I thought. Before we knew it my Fren...

There’s nothing like waking up to a 'ready-to-go' grocery list for a 3 week sail! I've had so many requests to share my 3 week meal plan from our sail aboard the Antares 44i so here you go! Below you'll find my list of meals for 3 adults and 1 child. I broke it down into categories of drinks, breakfast, lunches, dinners and snacks.
We had more than enough drinks for the trip but we did run low on beer towards the end and had to stop for more. We also grabbed a couple cases of water for...

How about an engine swap that would cost 10's of thousands of dollars be done for you...completely free? That's exactly what's happening here.
Volvo has an EPA recall on some of their engines and if you have them on your boat, you get a free recall swap. They take your engine out and install a brand new one! Or two in this case. This is an engine that's been removed from S/V Calypso...The catamaran we sailed around Florida. Can you believe this is one of the OLD engines?! Wait until you ...

Once we got the water maker up and running in Fort Lauderdale, we set sail again! The starboard engine issue (getting stuck in reverse) was due to linkage that popped off the gear shift lever at the engine...More on that later. So we fixed the current problems and set our course for Marathon, the next long stop by way of Miami...which you see here. This was an amazing anchorage!
Once we arrived in Marathon, we anchored just outside of Boot Key Harbor for a couple of nights. That was a li...

This is the Miami skyline from Virginia Key and it's amazing!! If you ever get the chance, do visit. Drop your anchor, grab a cold drink and enjoy the night!

Ok, we've navigated down the ICW through some pretty cold weather and finally arrived in Ft Lauderdale! The trip down the coast was good. The Captain of this sexy beast didn't have a ton of confidence in her ability because he's/she's been stuck at the dock for so long.
You'll find that when you sit at the dock, confidence leaves you pretty quickly. You start to talk about reasons why you can't vs why you should! It's easy to get in the rut which is exactly why we offered to help him sai...

We've arrived and are onboard the beautiful Antares 44i! Right now we're in the final stages of preparations before we leave on our passage. We're sailing her from the St Augustine, Florida area to Tampa so she can get repowered with two brand new Volvo Pentas...FREE Volvo Pentas, BTW...More to come about that.
I've provisioned and am getting everything organized onboard, Jeremiah has been working his butt off getting this Yamaha 20Hp outboard for our dinghy running...She's not cooperating but...

Right now, we're knee deep in bags of stuff for our trip to the east coast. Seabags are the way to go if you ever decide to travel aboard a boat! They hold a TON of stuff (Jeremiah swears he can fit a house in one after deploying in the Marine Corps so much and for so long) but they hold a lot and they fold away to nothing once you're onboard! You can also use them as laundry bags, etc...Sea bags...The only way to deploy!
We're leaving California by aircraft on the 10th, provisioning and...
