39. Sailing S/V Lazy Gecko - Final Tasks Before We Depart

Hello Patrons! 

Here we go! We're in the final stages of setting sail on our cruise through the Bahamas. In this episode we show you a few things we're doing in order to prepare. Including getting our life raft back (final cost for the refit is on the Vimeo version) and we give you a little class on an EPIRB.

Such an honor!

We met so many awesome people at Fantasy Fest! Several Patrons as well as other YouTube and Vimeo viewers. Way more than we ever expected honestly! This awesome Patron came all the way from Sweden!! Fantasy Fest 2016

Our first fitting!

It's that time again!

We love when we get enough on the boat done so that we have time to hit some weights at the gym. Jeremiah and I used to work out daily and love to maintain a healthy lifestyle so when we can get a chance to get under some weight, we jump at the chance! This week we're busy getting ready to head south to Key West for Fantasy Fest! Will you be there to meet with us?! Remember to let us know!!

Got Wood?

During these last days before departing, we're knee deep in repairs and getting our boat "ship-shape!". One of these items is wood repair and refinish. Remember Kiya's little "chew toy", the step? We had an amazing carpenter come by the boat yesterday, he's going to repair it plus redo quite a few other pieces to include the cockpit. 

While here, we picked his brain about care for our teak and mahogany throughout our boat. We've been worried to do anything in fear that we'd mess it up. Ou...

It's almost time!

We definitely got behind with ordering our Fantasy Fest costumes. They'll be on the way tomorrow though. We're excited :) Wonder which ones we will go with?! I think Jeremiah needs to show some skin! ;) We're back on the boat and it's finally back to living condition. 37. Lazy Gecko Sailing - Fun & Games Until a Hurricane Shows Up!

Hello you lovely Patrons! Man, it was a fight to get this episode up! We're almost back on the Gecko, we cannot wait!! Tomorrow is the day as we spent today getting everything out of the boat.

We're finally back at the boat!

Getting across the bridge is no joke. We had left our marina card in the boat and you need to show ID with an address that's in the area in order to cross the bridge. Ours aren't from here. We were finally able to get over by using a texted photo of our bill that our Harbormaster sent us. The marina boats did pretty well. A few boats received minor damage while the walkways received a bit more. The winds in the marina were at 80 sustained during the storm, overall we're very pleased with how i...

We've received photos of the Lazy Gecko and they all look great! Well, she looks dirty as crap and completely torn apart (from us) but she's floating and most of our tape to keep the water out is still in place! We can't wait to get back and clean her up! Good job Lazy Gecko! We don't see any damage at all so far! Knock on wood.

Hurricane Update!

Well...The storm has come and has moved on. We still can't help but watch the TV and hope the best for everyone in it's path. The S/V Lazy Gecko still sits in her spot, we hope! The bridges are all closed, there is no way to check to see the condition of our boat. Which is a bummer. So we're sitting here in Tampa waiting for an "all clear" so we can make the 3 hour drive up so we can see how she did. We do know she got hit pretty hard.  The waiting part that we're in the middle of sucks. We...

It is what it is! Hurricane Matthew update!

Hi everyone! After a few days of 6 hour drives and long hours prepping our boat (which looks like a dump right now) the boat is as prepared as we can make it. Everything that could be removed and stowed is. There are a few items we're concerned about like our windvane and bimini frame (which we reinforced) but we couldn't do anything about them. Sailing Uma left their complete dodger up and it lasted so hopefully our frame will. It's pretty strong so keeping fingers crossed.  We also remove...

Hurricane Number 2!

Ok that was fun. We spent all day furthering our Hurricane Matthew prep. This time we're expecting much more intensity than the previous storm. So we removed the mainsail, the wind generator, solar panels and bimini. We also stopped by the sailor exchange in St Augustine to pick up 4 more fenders and two more lines. They are NOT a good place to shop when a storm is approaching. More about that when we put the video together. So we have 8 fenders and 11 lines holding and protecting the boat. T...

35. Lazy Gecko Sailing - Repairs, Rigging Tuning & Man Overboard Drills!

Hello lovely Patrons!

In this episode we go up the mast again to get some repairs completed. We announce that we're leaving for the Bahamas earlier and we start our trip to California. Then we take advantage of some water and practice a man overboard drill, attempting to tie a bowline knot around ourselves. It's harder than it looks! Update along our path!

So....We got a phone call the other day from the dealership. The truck needs a new transfer case, which we assumed had been the issue. It's expensive (about $2400) but there isn't much we can do about it. So we told them to go ahead with the repair. 2 weeks! 14 days! Is the timeframe they gave us. Ugh. What the?!

A little update on our trip to California! So we were on the way out of Pensacola, we had just gotten to Mobile, Alabama and were going down into an underground tunnel when I pressed the accelerator and the RPMs shot up. No torque at all. Hi everyone! Some of you have asked about the dogs...In the most recent videos "Next time" footage we mention that we have bad news concerning the dogs, just in case you haven't seen it. Of course we aren't going to make you wait for it!
