DIGITISER PRESENTS: BUBBLEGUN!

A very belated happy new year, you lot! So, as you might've seen me tease over the weekend... we're going to do a Digitiser podcast finally. 

Gannon and Larry have both been on at me about it for a while, but I confess I was dragging my heels, mainly because there are SO many retro gaming podcasts, and with weekly videos now appearing on the channel, a live show, and a second series all in the works - not to mention the daily Digi updates - it felt like retro gaming overkill. I lov...

NEEDLESSLY GUSHING END OF YEAR REVIEW

Well, there have been some dips, but on balance... I've had a bloody good year. I got married, worked harder than I ever have done before - both in my day job and with the website and show - but to be my age and say you've had one of the best years of your life (admittedly, for a long time, that wasn't difficult) is overwhelming.

When I returned to Mr Biffo after six years away, I was pretty certain that I'd stay under the radar and remain out of the spotlight, but in 2018 I found mysel...

You may notice that I've deleted the post I made this morning. Everything still stands... except... I have since learned that the person I mentioned in the post isn't the same person who left an exit survey a week ago with a "Fuck him" message. 

Which is good on one hand... but on another that means there now at least two former Digi supporters who I've somehow pissed off enough to cancel their Patreon! What joy!

THE STATE OF DIGITISER TODAY

So, here's the thing. Two episodes into Digitiser the Show, and I'm feeling a little... I suppose "mixed" would be the word. 

I'm writing this on here because it's quite clear that not all the Digi show backers liked what they got, but I want to try to write through where I'm at, so I can attempt to make sense of it.

Basically, this was a sequence from this Sunday's ep of Digi - featuring the return of Computer Boy - that I've removed, because a few of my co-hosts were uncomfortable with it. Hello, you lot. Just wanted to drop you a line to thank you belatedly all for sticking with me through another month. 

Obviously, I've been quite preoccupied over recent weeks with piecing Digitiser The Show together. It has been a mammoth undertaking, and I'm still not done yet, but we're nearly there. It should be out by mid-November, but just to warn you, it might be that Digitiser posts are a bit less frequent (there isn't one today for instance) as I get into the final crunch period ...

Hello Patrons. Thank you for sticking with me during August, when I shockingly took two full weeks off. I managed to go away in that time though, inevitably, I am now full of The Cold.

MY WEEKEND AWAY WITH DOCTOR SYN

So, I went to the seaside at the weekend. After a four-and-a-half hour drive on Furnace Friday with no air con - during which my long-suffering Vauxhall Zafira, Rothers, broke down repeatedly - we finally made it to New Romney, near Dymchurch. Saturday brought the rain, which was nice.

GAME CENTRIST

This is going to be a big, rambling, dump of none-too-clear feelings, but it feels like I've reached a tipping point of despair over the past week. 

The Trump/Putin summit started the slide - particularly the feeling that Trump is going to get away with his behaviour once again, and seemingly there's no stopping him however bad it gets. You don't need me to recap his lies, his corruption, and all the rest of it.

HEAD OF STEAM

There's a weird thing which happens to me when I'm really busy. I find that the more work I have on, the more productive I am. I dunno if it comes from a feeling of wanting to reduce the pile of stuff I have to do - having a gun to my head - but I do work faster and better if I have a lot of it in my metaphorical in-tray.

It takes me longer to get going on a script when I've not been writing regularly for a while, or I've just one script on at a time. I think it's partly down to my brain being...

FREELANCE WILLY

So... I've been a lead writer on several shows before; Dani's House, Dani's Castle, and I'm still lead writer on 4 O'Clock Club. On all of those, my involvement was limited to co-creating the show and characters, writing the lion's share of scripts, and coming up with story arcs. I IS MARRIED NOW

Hello, gang. So, last time we spoke I wasn't married. Now I am! You'll be very proud that one of the readings I had during the ceremony was courtesy of my best man Anthony - aka DJ Trendy Peanut. I got him to read an extract from Winnie The Pooh, just so he had to say phase "There's always Pooh and me". Which got the expected laugh, due to mu puerile family and friends.
