Observe and Report

That film is one of those movies I never forgot and it's always been nagging at me to review. For me, I see it as a really interesting black comedy, that flew under the radar unnecessarily. I think in part, it has to do with Paul Blart: Mall Cop coming out at a very similar time, and the latter could appeal to a much wider demographic. (Observe and Report is also about a mall cop as well)

Thus O&R ends the Seth Rogan streak of success temporarily. It splits a lot of people. Some fin...

Euphoria Season 2

Wow....what a train wreck.

The first season had a lot of things about it that were captivating. And it was one of those situations where, I could see a lot of things coming together at the right time, despite my struggle with Levinson as a writer, and as a person fundamentally. But Euphoria Season 2, exposes all the flaws, in a way that felt like self-sabotage. Like he was setting fire to a passion project just so he could be seen as rebellious. All the wrong characters are emphas...

STAR WARS

dang ya'll.....who knew an old movie like Rise of Skywalker would do so well for me. I got nearly 500 subscribers from that video alone. I'm definitely going to finish up the og trilogy for reviews. Haven't decided yet if I'll continue with the prequels. I definitely want to for myself....just not sure if that means reviews would be included in that, or if it becomes more a personal thing. Let me know what you think, if you care too. Hope you all are well.

What are your thoughts on his work? I've been considering reviewing Dead Man sometime in the near future.

Euphoria

Any fans in the house? I don't watch a lot of tv, mainly because I don't have a lot of time or energy to devote to it. But I saw the pilot with someone who had been wanting my opinion on it. Perhaps I'm just feeling sentimental but, ugh man....too soon. haha. Ever watch something that hits a little too close to home to the point where it may not be healthy for you to watch it at present? I run into that issue on occasion, often in small ways but sometimes in big ways. But definitely had it wi...

Fox Animated Studios R.I.P. 1994-2000

I was thinking a bit about the Fox animated movie company that began trying to compete with Disney in the late 90s, amidst the Disney existential crisis. FAS really only made two major films: Anastasia and Titan AE. Both have some cool visual styles, and a bit more darkness or edge than Disney or Dreamworks. I always enjoyed how Anastasia had that almost haunted, gothic quality to the atmosphere. Titan AE had such a cool sci-fi look too. It was just incredibly half-baked. Really they both hav...

Ranking The 9 Episodes of Star Wars

Lol....I did my own ranking, now that I have finally completed the trilogy. Took me a long time to get to Rise of Skywalker (review coming sometime soon). So this felt imperative. Admittedly a couple of these are not as fresh in my mind as I would like (Last Jedi, as example)...but it's what I got for now. Feel free to tell me how wrong I am, or how you would rank them personally.

1. Empire Strikes Back (1980)

2. Star Wars (1977)

3. Revenge of the Sith (2005)

4. ...

RRR

I've been hearing a lot about this film, so I saw it recently. It was pure, absurdist, joy, and it satisfied me in all the ways I wish movies like The Northman and Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, did. This is why we go to the movies, imo. A feeling I rarely have these days. What are your thoughts?

John Williams

I'm working on a video talking about his most underrated film scores. Likely wont come out for a couple weeks but, I wanted to know what your opinion is on the subject? He's done a lot of iconic ones of course...but there's a lot of scores that I think a lot of people miss from him. What do you consider an underrated John Williams score?

Old Sketches (1999-2000)

I was asked recently by someone how I got into doing portraits and faces as an artist. I had no idea what to tell them. I don't really remember. But I was at my parents house recently sorting through some things, when I came across my old sketch pads from childhood. Was very interesting going through them, because I haven't seen them in many years. These were all done when I was ages 9 and 10. Clearly I had the patience for the detail then too. But yeah, age 9 is when the portraits started em...

Whataburger vs. In-n-Out

This is the age-old question. I'm a Texan so naturally I'm supposed to pick Whataburger. Don't get me wrong, I like it. But...I'm a traitor to my state. I'm an In-n-out girl ALL the way. Though....admittedly I've never eaten anything there that wasn't animal style....it's my current addiction problem. What do you think? If you've had a chance to try both, of course.

STAR WARS

I'm working on a review for the original Star Wars, as a fun summer movie review to break up all the serious stuff haha. But I've been revisiting some old nostalgia due to it.

What do you guys think is worse? The prequels...which is a giant Emperor has no clothes situation...where a creator gains too much power, and only has yes men around him. The result is one of the most baffling expensive movie messes of my lifetime. But at least...it's its own world, it attempted to be differ...

LOVE DEATH + ROBOTS

I don't know if any of you have seen this show or not. But my best friend has a degree in animation, and he couldn't stop talking about this. In case you don't know, it's a series of short films for netflix. Each artist is given freedom to make whatever animated short they want. There are a couple that stood out to me that I saw. The ones by Alberto Mieglo are absolutely extraordinary. His short, The Witness is a great style exercise and a masterclass in capturing human expressions and such, ...

EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE, ALL AT ONCE

Just saw it. I liked the concept, and thought it was fun and refreshing, had some imaginative things that pleased me. But...it's overrated as far as I'm concerned. It's overstuffed, and it thinks it's got some great handle on the meaning of life, but I found its way of conveying that, quite reductive as it went on. Preachy and self-important but...it's enjoyable. Just not some masterpiece to me, like everyone hypes it up to be. I know a lot of people were moved by the end of it, but to me the...

Whether you love this guy or not, his enthusiasm for his art is infectious and joyful. I just love hearing him talk about all these movies. I know a couple of you have seen as well. Quite the departure for Mr. Noe. Though, I was prepared for that, knowing the backstory of it. But what did ya'll think? Did the more subdued, more melancholy style of it work for you, or not?
