Beauties, this deck is nothing I have planned for this year but I wanted to share with you the idea. From all my Black Roses decks the Red Roses are probably my least favorite cards. That may sound worse than it is but one deck is always the least favorite.

The Red Roses idea was born when I did my first crowdfunding campaign in 2014 on Startnext (German crowdfunding website) for my first Black Roses Playing Cards . I only printed 8 or 10 Red Roses (can't even really remember) with MPC....

I wanted to add this image to the campaign page and I found a mistake on the card. Maybe you'll also find it now. It's funny because I've posted it a few times on Instagram and I've never seen it. I'll write USPCC since it's also wrong on the printed proofs. It could be too late to change it. I also don't really want to change it if it causes another delay.

I think it's a great example how many things can go wrong in the design process. There are just way too many details.

Black Roses Hotel V3

A few days ago I saw the Private Reserve Makers from Dan and Dave. This deck has MetalLuxe in combination with normal ink with the same distance like my Hotel deck. So of course I was wondering why USPCC can print this deck but not mine?

Kickstarter preview

I know it never looks like that but I never worked longer on a Kickstarter page. First I wanted to make the environment look more vintage. I thought a white background is too monochrome with a deck that also has a lot white on the tuck and back. I had a few different plans for the whole layout. But at the end I think simplicity is the key - always.

The MetalLuxe Dilemma

I wrote USPCC today to figure out how I should mark MTLX objects in my files.

Turns out I just need to place all MTLX objects on a separate layer - great. But I'm not able to print my Hotel deck like I've imagined it with MTLX - not so great...

USPCC can't line up the thin border to the teal background perfectly. Something I should have known, but for some reason it never came into my mind that this could be a problem.

Dondorf Hearts

From all Dondorf courts are the Queen and King of Hearts definitely the most difficult ones to get used to if you are so used to the standard court cards like I am. On the Queen, the shoulders are too thin and on the King they are too broad. The King also looks a little bit too far straight forward for my taste. Authentic Dondorf Tuck Box

What you see on the image is an idea that I have since I started to work on the Dondorf deck in 2018. I wanted to print the deck with the original tuck box. This tuck box is one reason why it took me forever to send the deck into production. The standard USPCC tuck box is more or less a compromise.

But I called a press shop today who can produce these tucks with me. Finally! I get a quote next Monday. It should be affordable. Let's hope for the best.

Blue Marble Half Brick

My cynical side tried to prevent half brick boxes for a long time. On one side I still think it's more or less an admission that it is too hard for people to sell twelve decks. So the simple alternative is to cut the box in half.
