Patreon preview - FAILURE: Testing alcohols

Another preview for your review. I haven't put in all the numbers and equations but you get the idea.

Nonetheless i feel this video does NOT hang together very well. It is after all essentially a failure. And in the end we don't really learn anything.

Let me know if you have any suggestions to improve it. I'm actually thinking of just holding this back and move on to other videos. I think i'll come back to this once i demonstrate more advanced analytical techn...

Patreon Preview - Grignards

Finally got around to doing the graphics for the previously previewed grignard video.  I split off the diethyl ether purification video and that was posted 3 weeks ago. I was going to include an alcohol testing video that would have extended the run time another 5-7 minutes, but realized it would better as a standalone video.

Anyway. Let me know what you think of the current grignard video. I'm making minor adjustments like spelling errors and timing of particular scenes, but for the most...

Patreon Preview - Purifying and Drying Diethyl Ether for use in Grignard Reactions

So as suggested i've cut out the drying diethyl ether video and made it a standalone video. I'll probably post this first while i work on editing the grignard reactions video.

Now since this is a direct cut i'm not sure if it flows as well but let me know what you think. I can still edit it.

Patreon Preview - Grignard Reactions (Unfinished)

This is video is clearly unfinished, it's a skeletal version of the upcoming Grignard Reactions video. But it should give a good idea of what's going on.

It's taken so long to do but it's essentially 6 videos of work in one. Part 1 is about drying diethyl ether, Part 2 is performing a grignard reaction in detail. Part 3-5 are other grignard reactions but since they're carbon copies of part 2 with minor reagent changes they're much shorter. Part 6 is testing the tertiary alcohols and...

Patreon has reversed their fees change. You win.

Awesome news. Patreon has heard us loud and clear and have gone back to the old fee structure.

Those of you that increased your pledges in accordance with my "Bulk patreon" idea can go back now. Reduce your pledges again because i'll be charging per video again and NOT per 10 videos. You are going to get badly gouged if you keep giving me 10x more per video.

So overall, no change to the patreon schedule. Remember to set your pledges accordingly.

Patreon alternatives or Bulk Patreon?

Hey everyone!

You may have received news from Patreon that they are shifting some of the fees from my side to your side. This has the overall effect of increasing costs on your side.

Of particular controversy is a $0.35 flat fee. So for you $1 patrons this increases your fees by 35% at the minimum. I've already had a number of patrons cancelling their pledges over this exorbitant increase

So i'd like to discuss how we can move forward.

One option is to do nothing and continue...

Voting on Short Projects Part 2

The second list of projects, vote for as many as you like, or none you don't like them at all. This list will be combined with the previous list.

For more information on projects you can check this post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/finalized-list-15685631

Voting on Short Projects Part 1

This is the poll for short projects. It is divided into two parts since patreon doesn't allow more than 20 entries per poll.

Short projects are those projects that should take less than a few months and as such I can do as many as we want. Voting here is important to gauge popularity so i'll spend more effort on the highly voted ones and possibly not even do the least voted ones.

Vote for as many projects as you like. But a voting for everything basically means voting for nothing. ...

Voting on Major Projects

So this is the voting poll for major projects. In case you haven't been reading my patreon feed for awhile: I've filtered and assessed the giant list of suggestions from my request for ideas video and edited the major projects down to this list.

Major projects are those projects that require months or possibly years of work. As such I can only do a few so voting here will be to decide which ones I should commit to. Feel free to vote for many or just a few. Chances are I'll do at least one.&nbs...

Finalized Project List

This is the finalized project list. I've written it here as reference for those that would like a bit more information about them. If you already read the old list then you don't need to read this one.

For those of you that haven't been following my patreon feed for awhile, i've collected the project ideas from my reddit threads and after some editing and review i've put them here for voting by you, my patrons. As the people who directly fund what I do, you can direct what i...

The project list so far

Apologies for nothing happening these past two weeks. I've had some major failures in my experiments. As for the list of projects to vote on, this is what i have so far. I might remove or add a couple, but this is mostly what i'm going with.

No need for you to read this. I'm just putting this here if you're interested.

The major projects are the difficult ones that take lots of time and effort. I can only do a few or less (depending on total complexity) so voting will be most important t...

Patreon preview - Make a Rechargeable Silver Oxide Zinc Battery

Higher resolution version and i've chucked out the history lesson.

Do you think the video would be better if I took the time to make a high-powered battery? I could charge the cellphone for longer with it but that's about it.

Patreon preview - make a rechargeable silver zinc battery

Very rough cut of my next video.

I'm likely going to cut off the history lesson about the battery at the end because i just can't find enough interesting example photos.

anyway, let me know what you think so far, i'm still editing it.

What I'm going to do about the 500+ proposed ideas

So the idea proposal and voting through reddit worked... sort of.

Interestingly enough, most people just didn't vote. There were lots of ideas though. But without voting it was hard to tell which ones were popular or not. With only a few votes between them it could just be noise.

So i have an idea to resolve this to a mutually beneficial solution: I'm going to go through all 500+ ideas and condense them down into a few dozen. I'll eliminated ones that are too difficult, blatantly i...

Reddit discussion thread up now. Go and make suggestions!

So I've posted the reddit discussion thread now and as my patrons you get first dibs as to what to post. I'll post the youtube video asking for ideas in a few hours. So by all means spam what ideas you want to see.

If you don't have a reddit account that's fine too. Post your ideas here and i'll take them into consideration.

Patreon preview - ideas for new projects

So tomorrow i'd like to post this video on setting up a discussion about new projects on reddit.

Do you guys think it would be a good idea? Or should i just use youtube comments? I like the layout of reddit better.

Patreon preview - Silver Toning by Anodization

Got another video for your review.

This is a redo of my old silver anodizing video. Now i know it seems like i'm redoing everything but this is the only other one. I already had all the equipment and chemicals ready since i was doing silver restoration and this is a lead in to my upcoming rechargeable silver zinc battery video.

I will NOT be doing anymore redo videos for at least a month.

But aside from that, let me know if this video works. if you'd like me to add more, fix ...

This still unfinished and has some missing scenes and equations but you can figure out what's going on.

I'd like your opinion and if there are any questions you'd like to have answered about the chemistry.

I feel like there is something missing, can't quit put my finger on it.

Rough cut of an upcoming video. Still have to put in equations.

Let me know if you think it's good enough to post or if you think it's a waste of time to redo old videos.

Also, i'd like to make one of the sequences into an animated gif for posting on twitter and instagram. Which one do you think would be best? the silver on aluminum one, the silver on zinc one, or the silver with battery one?

Thanks.
